A lovely place in Southampton, near East Hampton and Sag Harbor.  A short and scenic ferry ride from nearby Sag Harbor to the wine region of the North Fork.  Chris and Kim Allen are exceptionally friendly and gifted hosts.  After our daily excursions we enjoyed relaxing, reading, and sipping wine in the very comfortable common area beside the fireplace.  If you like gardens you will love this place.  Exceptional restaurants for gourmet dining abound in the area and Chris and Kim know all of them.  We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to the Hamptons.

Bed and breakfasts are not my favorite kind of place.  Everything tends to be fluffly and perfumed, and there are all sorts of sweet syrups oozing out of your breakfast.  The Manor is a best-of-its-kind sort of place.  The Allens add all sorts of subtle touches to maximize the likelihood that their guests will feel comfortable and well cared-for.  The only drawbacks that I can cite concern the breakfast: ours was served at 9:30AM (on a weekday), and there was absolutely no choice.  I prefer to have control of what I eat for breakfast and when I come to breakfast.  If one could specify a dining time in advance and choose from among two or three main dishes, that would be a significant improvement.

The back garden (and swimming pool) are quite beautiful.  There are fresh-cut flowers inside the house.  The shelves are stocked with interesting books.  If you're going to be in Southampton, you should definitely investigate A Butler's Manor.

Why buy a home in the Hampton's when you can be pampered silly at the Butler's manor. Wake up to home-made gourmet breakfasts every morning, cooked and served by the lovely sweet couple that owns, maintains and runs the mansion.  And if you stay long enough you may get to experience their version of a happy hour - and they make sure everyone is happy indeed! Their backyard is a lush almost tropical garden filled with all the colors of the rainbow and beyond - a true pleasurable experience. Cheers! Can't wait to be back next year!

History

Established in 2002

A Butler's Manor, a Southampton, NY bed and breakfast inn is located on the East End of Long Island. The village of Southampton was settled in 1640 and is the oldest English settlement in New York State.  Our bed and breakfast was originally constructed in 1860. " A Butler's Manor takes its name from Christopher's profession. A proper British butler for over 20 years, Chris ran estates in both Europe and America before "retiring" to welcome guests to our luxurious bed and breakfast. The personal service that is the hallmark of his profession, along with Kim's attention to detail, will make your stay at A Butler's Manor an experience in hospitality you won't soon forget.

Meet the Business Owner: Chris and Kim A.

British-born Chris worked on estates in Europe before moving to California in 1985 to run a property in Laguna Beach.  He met Kim (while playing darts in an Irish pub in Newport Beach, CA), and they married in 1988.  They moved to the East End in early 1992 when Chris accepted a position managing an estate in East Hampton. In his spare time, Chris loves gardening, woodworking, and learning new skills, from computers to composting.

Kim, a native Californian, is a writer (the author of two published books, including a memoir about Chris's life in service, titled A Butler's Life and her recently released cookbook A Butler's Manor: The Cookbook). She loves the creativity found in cooking and decorating, and is continually plotting either a redecoration of one of our spaces or the storyline of a new book. Whenever she finds time, she's at work on her third novel
