Oh how I love this store!! The store is very well put together and always neat and tidy.
I wish that more stuff was there (maybe a little more affordable stuff too) But thats just SOHO I guess.
Not many of the Bathing Ape stores are in the US so its nice to have one here in the city.
Whenever I am in the area I take a quick walk in there just to take a gander at the stuff and look at the cute baby milo clothes.
If one really wants the stuff I guess one can always check the sites that sell the 'fapes' haha it ALMOST looks the same.

Decent selection on shoes, the styles aint that great this season vs. the older season. It would be better if they had more of everything... shoes, hats, clothing.. service is pretty good..

Cool store design, neat and clean with some pretty unique clothing designs and very limited.  You really get the whole urban feel with hip hop music playing throughout the store and the staff is pretty attentive surprisingly.

You already know what you're coming here for when you venture into SoHo, so I have no problem with their pricing. I figured, I made the trip here, I gotta leave with something.

Bathing Ape stuff is PRICEY.

But, it's sorta tough to find, authentic anyways.

Really hard to find the right size as the cooler stuff sells out. So the only thing I could come up with in my size that I could wear and was the cheapest was a $130 polo.

The store looks super clean. I love the layouts and displays.

Great place to peep, even if you don't or can't buy anything.

During my trip to the NYC my hostesss friend lived right across the street from this store.  It felt kind of wierd living in spacious condo with high-end retailers like Burberry and Bape as your neighbors, i guess that's SOHO for you.

As for the store, the place is cool, shoes are displayed like fine jewelery.  It is actually quite small so don't expect to be inundated with tons of products, but the layout is impressive, simple yet definitley eye-catching. Everything here is expensive for the average joe, the cheapest item I found was a plain white tshirt with the BAPE logo screenprinted on the left chest which retailed for $150 bucks.  I was tempted to buy some kicks, but i figured feeding myself for the next 3 months was a far more sane idea.

If your a fan of the BAPE line, this is the spot for you, as for me, I'd rather spend my money on some Stan Smiths or a fresh pair of J's.

I like BAPE. The stuff is expensive, I understand. The store is clean, cool and very well designed and organized. While their products are nice-looking, I feel like there could be more to fill up the space better. But I guess they are going for that minimalist look. I like the Baby Milo character and the Bapesta shoes but I don't really feel like paying that much for this stuff.

One of the slickest looking stores that I went to during my New York trip, but I'll probably stick to a) waiting for someone I know to go to Japan to buy me stuff there since it's cheaper, or b) buying from Pondon (eBay). I think Shing02 was there shopping too, so +1 star for Samurai Champloo for no good reason. -1 because the patent leather on my pair of Bapestas is creased to shit.

For shame, Nigo.

BEST sneakers. The quality and workmanship of the sneakers here are superb. I don't mean the skullstas or the crepes, but the actual bapestas or roadstas. You know how the back of the shoe normally starts wearing and tearing over time, the part where you stick your heel in? Well with these sneakers they don't do that.

You'll be hard pressed to find an exclusive hoody drop without camping out or a raffle. Shark and tiger hoodies were cool too. Fish hoodies were a miss. The jury is still out on the panda hoodies.

Yes, you do pay a premium for quality and exclusivity but who wants to look like everybody else? It's how you cooooordinate that makes or breaks you!

Come on, man, and give me a break!
You call this NY Bathing Ape FLAGSHOP? Do you know what's that mean "flagshop"?
I personally don't support bathing ape at all but my brother is a huge fan, so I have to show him what's NY bathing ape is and of course, turn him totally down.
Products, of course, very pricey and for wall paper lovers, whole store decoration is also really wick. Yes yes yes, you give each sneaker a showcase to display them, but Mr. Pharrell and Nigo, is this the best you can do? I thought we have connection??!! Ha!

If someone told me in 1993 that he could take a monkey unrelated to the Curious cousin, throw it on a basic tee and eventually sell them at a mark-up of 900,000%, I would probably have laughed in his face and sent him off on his merry way because a) consumers are rational  and b) there's only room for one household pet in the retail world -  Hello Kitty, of course.  Like, DOI!

And this explains why I am not balling out of control, cruising down 5th Ave. in a Rolls.  I am but a meager salary (wo)man today.

Where was the foresight?  Fifteen years ago, who cared.  I sure didn't.  I was pulling straight A's and toting a Pop-Tart in my lunch bag.  Life was good.

Now, the APE is alright, but BABY MILO is the cutest.  $100 t-shirt / $250 hoodie / $140 exclusive camouflaged Baby Milo heads Chuck Taylors cute?  Arguable.  Which is why I walked out of the SoHo store empty-handed, but got me thinking about what the next marketable animal could be.

Could I too, strike gold?
A teddy bear perhaps?
Oh right, Ralph Lauren.
Penguin?
Sorry, Chanel Fall 2007.
Polar bear?
Snooze you lose, Stella McCartney Fall 2007!

If anyone's interested, I think the lemur is still up for grabs.

This store is a trip, I had heard so much about DJ Nigo I had to see what all the fuss was about. Big jeans, ultra limited edition t-shirts (some co-created with Pharrell Williams!) selling for $1000 on eBay, it's all that. BAPE sneakers are a collector's wet dream too.

This store is impressive, totally worth just visiting to take in the street hip hop vibe if nothing else. Plus I love anything to do with Apes, as monkeys are the new pirates.

I have never seen so many suburban gangsters in one place at one time.  So many wankstery sons of orthodontists, accountants, dentists and like, jammed into BAPE, spending their parent's dough.

If you want to drop big dollars to look like a toddler, then come here.  You'll look adorable!

You kind of have to know what you're getting into when you visit Busy Workshop in SoHo. First off, it's the official store in the US, and all the rest are tucked away in hard to find boutiques around Tokyo. BAPE is a streetwear phenomenom. Everything is produced in small, extremely high quality quantities, and once it's gone, it's gone. That means two things. If you don't get it straight from the source, it's either fake, or you're going to pay an insane markup just to get the gear.

The store is also a little hard to find, but that's part of the mystique of it. Once you get inside, you're greeted by a friendly staff, and a small amount of really amazing stuff. If you want to leave with a pair of shoes, you've got to try them on first, and they have to fit you before they'll sell them to you. At any given time, they might not even have your size in stock, but that's the chance you take with this gear.

After I left the store with the last pair of shoes in my size in the store, I had at least ten people on the street stop me and ask when I could find the store.

Even if streetwear isn't your thing, wander around SoHo until you find it sometime and see what this brand is all about. The fact that NYC is the only place you can find this stuff is a blessing.

My wife thought the stuff was ugly when I first showed it to her. When she walked in the store and got to talking to the staff about the philosophy of the brand, she was sold.

Even though I officially put in my resignation from the urban wear world a few years ago (I gave up my membership card), I had to don my ice creams and check out this BAPE store while I was in town. I love Nigo's idea that birthed the brand and this store fit it to a T. Minimal, a bit exclusive, almost cult like following, and all street.
Even their website gives me the shivers (try it, you'll see) http://www.bape.com/.
I hope it's buyers stay true to the brand identity, and keep on with it's limited issue appeal (you can only buy one item of clothing in your size at the store to deter resale).
The SOHO branch does not trip me out as much as it's Hong Kong store, but the only one we have state side so it's still worth a visit.

Urbanwear

A Bathing Ape or BAPE, whichever it should be known to you.  Popular urbanwear worn by many, but known by few.

A store with a nice open design, and clean uncluttered displays.  Come here if you are ready to spend a pretty penny on clothes.  It's never full to capacity with customers (unless it's a release day and limited edition items are on sale)  This store offeres a great selection fo urbanwear, hoodies, t-shirts, jackets, and more importantly sneakers.  Most clothing designs are simple with bright colors along with the BAPE name brand emblazoned on the front or the back.  If you want a less obvious design, maybe the Baby Milo brand might be good for you, as it's a cartooned cuter version of the BAPE logo.

If you are willing to spend about $80 on a t-shirt, $250 on a hoodie, then this is the place for you.

Bape has been around forever but its only recently that they're getting more and more mainstream.  My bro has a bunch of their hoodies and shoes so my bf also wanted to check this place out.  I personally like Baby Milo, its just so cute.
Let's just say the staff there take their jobs too seriously.  If you're planning on trying a shirt on, please do not take their shirts off the hanger.  The staff there gets so worried, they will literally come at you and tell you, you're STRETCHING out the neck of a T-Shirt.  In fact, you're not allowed to try on the actual shirt, you are only allowed to try on a 'sample shirt' (a blank shirt that is used for you to try on for size only).  Haha.  Oh and after you make the purchase, remember to show your receipt to the security at the door (even though the store is like tofu sized and he just saw you buy it).

$85 for a t-shirt, but you don't pay extra for tax. That sounds expensive, right? If you are a Bape connoisseur, you would understand that this is actually a deal.

If you were to buy the clothes from eBay or anywhere online, the cost may possibly be doubled, plus shipping. Originally A Bathing Ape is from Japan, and is very exclusive. They only make a limited amount of each piece (kinda like Jordans, BBC, etc). The quality of a t-shirt is not just a regular ass hanes or fruit of the loom t-shirt type. It's very thick, and it is knitted, almost as if it is a sweater. On the outside, it is a urban underground (i dunno if its considered underground anymore... hella people sport the fake shit.) but on the inside, its high quality and love put into the fabric.

Im sorry, Im in love with a shoe head. So I know these things. Ladies, its like buying a $40 fake Louis Vuitton purse that will break on you in a few hours.. or buying a $1000 Louis Vuitton purse that can actually last a life time. My boyfriend has a couple of Bape pieces and they still look as good as the first time we bought it.

LUXURIOUS QUALITY. Hollah.

I give this place 5/5 stars just for the shear greatness of the hype Nigo has built this place upon.  The clothes are EXTREMELY bad quality, the designs usually border on disgusting, the shoes fall apart, yet I can't get enough.

Chances are you will only be able to get the bad stuff unless you know when things are released and know that you have to stand in line really early in the morning.  It's bullshit, but what do you expect?

You already know what it is.  I have been to this store several times to oggle the new gear (which arrives in limited quantities a couple times per week).  The oggling starts while waiting on line just to get into the store, checkin out the candy colored kicks spinning on a carousel in the front window.  (If you try to go on a Saturday, be prepared to wait.)  The clientele includes ranges from super-trendy sneaker heads already decked out in BAPE head to toe, to European and Japanese business men in suits buying multiple pairs of kicks for their spoiled runts of children.

I have never actually bought anything at BAPE because I can't quite justify dropping $80-$100 on a t-shirt, or $180 on sneakers that are hard to coordinate with clothes.  I would justify the $ if there was something that REALLY hit me, but so far, every time I have been there I was never completely overwhelmed.  There are plenty of hot Nikes for $120 that I tend to like much more.

Just go to check out the scene, and the architecture & vibe of the custom-built space for BAPE's flagship American store.  MAYBE they'll have some stuff that you really dig enough to drop some considerable loot on.  Just remember to put ya stunna shades on.

From an architectural standpoint, this place holds it down given the neighborhood. However, the clothes used to be more exclusive and you literally see everyone wearing something BAPE-ish.

Customer service has definitely gotten better. Even the guard at the door opens the door... sometimes.

I've been going to this store for the past 2 years. All in all, Bape is a sweet brand if you like that type of stuff.

Granted, its $73 a tee and $270 for a hoody, but if you're willing to pay the price, then it's all good.

The architecture of the store is also sweet as hell. Simplistic, yet "Bape"

I went here for the first time about 2 years ago and the service was less than great... But on my recent trip to NY, I could say the customer service was a lot better...However, it really only improved once I mentioned "If the womens size xs would be the same size as the size 'short' " the employee brought a bunch of last season rejects and a couple new stuff out for me -- but i mean, its a lot better than them trying to act like they're the shizza all the time.

This is the emperor's new clothes for the new generation.  I understand they've got some cooler items that sell out way fast.  But walking through this joint I was sorely disappointed.  It's small, and the quality of the clothing really didn't feel like anything worth shelling out that kinda money for.  $75 for a silk screen t-shirt with a url on it?  $275 for a thin zip hoody?  No thanks.  I guess when kids have a lot of money, they're bound to get suckered into anything.  If you're one of those kids, this is the place for you.

I'm a big fan of their stuff. So I was glad to see that they opened up a shop in NYC. I've been to their many shops in Japan and the one in Hong Kong. By far the coolest one is the one they just opened up Harajuku. The one in Shibuya is not bad in design as well. But it's not fair for me to compare the shops in Japan to the one in NYC. This one in NYC is small but gives you a Japan feel. I do have to admit that the staff is a bit rude and non helpful if you don't look like you're going to buy any thing. Also my other complaint is that they don't take Amex!

been a bape head for quite a while. what can i say, im a sucker for $180 made in china sneakers, $70-$100 tees and $300 hoodies! seriously though, one of the best looking boutiques in nyc, and the dudes inside are generally pretty helpful. only bad thing about the soho outpost is that due to the value of the dollar, it is significantly more expensive than the bws in harajuku or any of the footsoldiers in japan.

btw, one point of advice.... never dry clean a bape hoodie. just keep it clean. they don't hold up too well to them dry cleaning chemicals.

cool clothes, a lot of hype, but i actually like quite a bit of thier clothing and sneakers! yes, they are way overpriced, but that is all relative... if people spend $6k on a bespoke suits than $98 on a tee isn't bad... ;)

I heard horror stories on rudeness of the staff, but they were actually VERY friendly and helpful! I needed tees in size medium, and like always they were very low in inventory. the guy went to the back and grabbed ALL SHIRTS they had in medium for me to check out. it was great coz I didn't have a lot of time to spare and I was able to quickly pick something and get out of there... Didn't get a chance to shop for sneakers, too hard to carry (I was heading straight to JFK)... plus didn't feel like dropping several hundreds on a pair...

Huge in japan since 1997, bape has officially taken over.  the all-over print  hoodies and limited edition t-shirts that you see so many brands selling these days can all be attributed back to bape and nigo, the originator of all over print hoodies.  I was a huge fan a few years back and still own some pieces but it's been getting played out as of late with fakes and too many bapesta's in the city. True bapeheads will spot fakes immediately but age combined with over saturation has left me shopping for more trendy/ casual wear these days.  The same architect that designed the uniqlo store in soho designed bws ny so it's worth to go have a look .  Sneakers range from $198-$250 , T-shirts $83-244 *crystal shirts* , hoodies $278-350  so it's definitely for the heavy pockets.

but me and my boyfriend were drooling over the kicks spinning in the window, so we had to check it out inside. he almost bought a hoodie there but we couldn't really justify dropping $300+ on it when we could get great hoodies back in california for $50. plus he wasn't a fan of the zipper that zips through the hood anyway.

cool and overpriced clothes, but maybe i'll shop here when my boyfriend makes the big bucks.

If you're looking for a cheap shirt go to Target. If you're looking for something by the brand Bape, go to Bape.

I like the design of their sneakers, and some of the designs on their shirts are comical.

I didn't really interact with any employees during my visit, so I don't have anything to say about the service.

If you can, go experience the store. When I think of urban fashion I don't really think of an environment that looks almost sterile, but it's an interesting contrast. It's more about their products and less about their decor. Fair enough.

I've been a fan of Bathing Ape ever since I first heard the Clipse rapping about it a year or two ago, so when I saw there was one store in New York I was pumped. I walked in their with a pretty open price range, and that's the key, you have to have an open mind. If you walk in there thinking "This is ridiculous", you're not going to walk out with anything.
I walked in and picked up a "Bathing Ape Classics" t-shirt for $86. The quality of the shirts is amazing and they are sweater-like in their fleecy fabric.
*If you are not in the area of a store (London, New York, Los Angeles are the only stores outside Japan) the best place to shop is http://stay246.jp, which carries a huge variety of their clothing including the rare purple camo hoodie (which costs a hefty $1,000).
**I know the prices are astronomical, but compared to a lot of online retail places they're much cheaper (I found my exact same t-shirt that I bought for $86 for $120)
