I attended the fine academic institution of Cal State Northridge for 5 + years and I spent many days and nights here... Devouring and engulfing many shumais and potstickers my stomach can handle.

A&W is the only dim sum place in the valley so on the weekends this place gets insanely packed.

For dim sum you can't go wrong with the shumai, garlic spare ribs and the bbq steamed buns. The crowning jewel of this place is the sugar cane shrimp with mayo on the side. If you are able to score the sugar cane shrimp right out the kitchen then you have won the lottery of dim sums because it just tastes so much better.

For non dim sum dishes, my go to options is the pan fried pork chop and the crispy pan fried noodles. This place is a one ticket to the land of obesity but  I love living dangerously.

This place does get really crowded, but the food does come out fast. The people behind the carts are super friendly though, which something I'm not used to when going to any dim sum restaurant.

The silverware place on the table after being cleaned down weren't clean though, which was pretty gross. They still had dried up food on them and one of the tea cups did have lipstick on it.

The food, it comes out fast, but it's not amazing. It's good, but nothing mind blowing. Some entrees weren't hot either, which was kind of disappointing.

An old high school friend took me here for brunch on a Saturday.  He called it Dim Sum and it means small plate or something.  That is exactly how the food is served on small plate.  They has people pushing carts of various dishes around and you order like a la cart style.  I don't know the names of the dishes we order, but there were some shrimp dishes that were very tasty.

It was a fun style of eating as the servings were in similar to sample sizes.  We ordered almost 7 or 8 different things and the bill was less than $30 dollars.  I loved the experience and will definitely come back in the future.  Thanks Mai, for bringing me here, I will treat next!!  I definitely recommend this place if you have not had Dim Sum before.  It does get pretty crowded in here during the weekend brunch though.  I think Dim Sum only runs from morning to noon or so.

I was reluctant to come. My friend was craving dim sum. We ended up coming anyway.

The servers pushing around the carts are much nicer than the ones in the SGV. Maybe it's because Northridge is not filled with Chinese people or maybe it's because Northridge is filled with nice people. Who knows? But, I do know that this is as good as it gets in the SFV. The food was not bad, but it wasn't hot. My favorite was the ham sui gok. It's pork wrapped in sticky rice flour (no, there is no ham in it). I order it whenever I go to a dim sum place.

I don't know when I will come back because I rarely eat dim sum and there are better places in the SGV. If one of my friends in the SFV is craving it though, then I will come back.

I really enjoy this place. Our favorites are the eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, as it's just the right combination of spicy and sweet (always ask them to cook it "very well", as we like our eggplant very soft.

The hot braised shrimp is excellent, although expensive. It is slightly sweet and spicy sauce on top of shrimp... very good.

The House Crab is fantastic. It has some kind of sauce on it that is worth the price.

Decent Dim-Sum considering it isn't China Town.  I am a fan of mostly everything in their Dim-Sum cart, except the chicken feet, but that's a personal choice.  I also like their Crispy Fried Sole, which they were unfortunately out of during lunch today.  Their Sole is almost as good as The Mayflower's in ChiTown too, although the sauce is just slightly lacking.

I've also tried their Shredded Pork with Hot garlic Sauce = it's ok; their Crispy Fried Squid with Spicy Salt = a horrendous mess!  Squid is rubbery/chewy.  I'm sure if I ever try chewing on my bike tires it would be the same consistency!  Skip this menu item all together.  It's been a while since I had their Pan Fried House Special Noodle, mainly because it was lacking in flavor and ingredients the last time we ordered it.  It wasn't always the case...  Maybe they were just having a bad day that particular time.  Their version of  Chow Mein is also not worth having as the noodles are served swimming in oil.

Service:  Though there are a couple of servers here that are nice and attentive (especially the short-haired lady with the masculine swag -- I guess that's the best way I can differentiate her as I do not recall her name.), but the cashier lady at the counter who takes payments and to-go orders is fairly rude.  She DOES NOT smile; and every time I order aTo-Go with her, she gives me an attitude like I should be grateful she's giving me the time of day.  It's not her lack of English as she understands me fine; it's simply her personality I think.  Because of her, I prefer to drive farther to the Granada Hills branch for better service.  A & W Northridge may want to consider giving their cashier a "back-of-the-house" job in the future.

My search for really authentic Chinese food lead me to try A&W Seafood for lunch today.  It did not disappoint.

Arrived just before Noon on this Saturday afternoon having been warned by some Yelp reviews to do so.  Had no trouble being seated right away,  The restaurant was about half full.

Before my GF (The Queen of Reseda) and I were able to get settled in, we were barraged by rolling carts of dim sum!  The Dim Sum ladies are more than eager to offer lots of delicious looking things.  I'm positive they work on some sort of Dim Sum commission system.

Next thing I know we have a dish of Walnut Shrimp http://www.yelp.com/bi..., Pan Fried Shrimp Dumplings, and some other Steamed Dumpling that I don't even know what it is.  Whoa, hold on everybody!  Let's slow this freight train down!  Everything was tasty.

Let's start with a menu please.  We asked twice before they brought me one.  Each person we asked looked surprised we wanted one.  Some nice lady came up and took our order.

    Order:

    House Special Shrimp-
Lightly breaded tender shrimp sautéed with house special sauce, combined with fresh green onions, jalapeños and freshly cracked black pepper.  Ask for it under noodles.  It was really good. Not too spicy.    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

    Beef Loc Lac (French Style)-
Bite-size tender beef fillets. Marinated with freshly cracked pepper, and sautéed with a house special brown garlic sauce. Served on a bed of sliced white onions and tomatoes.  http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare.  Tasted great with the slivered onions.  A Vietnamese dish.  Also know as "Shaking Beef".  Very good indeed.

We also ordered some steamed rice.  Waitress asked if we wanted rice for (1) or (2).  I said (2).  It turned out to be enough rice for a family of (4).  Bewared of over ordering steamed rice!

Lunch was good, but had a price to pay in the end.  $52.00 + $9.00 tip ended up with a $61.00 lunch with plenty of left overs.

Come hungry and bring your Visa.  Good restaurant.

I'm a huge fan of dim sum and need my fix.

I go to A&W Seafood in Northridge (better than the Granada Hills location) for my weekday dim sum fix.  This place serves traditional dim sum items that most people would recognize which is deliciously perfectly fine by me.  I've been there 3 times just this past week around lunchtime and would have gone everyday if I could.

The servers are friendly, kind, speak english well, and are more than pleased to explain what each dumpling is in english even though I've learned the chinese names.  There is adequate seating so I rarely wait.  The place is appropriately-sized so that the carts come by just at the right time.  No need to flag anyone down.  Tea and water filled regularly.  Empty plates on the table were cleared frequently without me having to stack a pile on the side.

Get full for about $10 a head.

    My favs:
-seafood egg roll (wrapped in bean curd and fried..yum!)
    -shrimp and scallop steamed dumplings
-seaweed and baby corn wrapped in bean curd
    -chinese broccoli (of course)
    -sweet tofu
    -crab on sugar cane
-congee (rice porridge with chicken and black eggs)
    -steamed egg custard buns

Yes, I know...the San Gabriel Valley has great dim sum places.  Blah-blah.  If you want long wait lines, crowds, noise, negligent waitstaff, dirty water glasses, and like waving down someone to clear empty plates and fill empty tea pots than by all means go to any dim sum place in the San Gabriel Valley cause you won't find that nonsense here in Northridge.

Not the best dimsum in los angeles, but one of the better ones in the valley. I love their sticky rice, jook, pork buns, and shrimp dumplings. I also like their steamed artichoke, but the brown sauce they pour over it is too salty. Ask for less sauce. It is a bit expensive in my opinion compared to other dimsum places. They have dessert here. They have boba drink and ice cream. The boba balls here isn't that good, but the drinks are not too bad.

There is very limited parking. The lot is very tight and narrow. Most likely have to street park.

Came here for dim sum a couple times. Definitely satisfies my dim sum craving when I can't go to the SGV. When I went, it wasn't very busy, so the food was sitting on the cart for some time before it was served to me, so not the best tasting by the time it got to my table. Price is not bad, although I don't remember exactly how much each item was.

Would definitely come back just due to the lack of dim sum places in the SFV.

    This place is just OK...

If you want dim sum in the valley, then you go to A & W.  Most items will be deep fried, but you'll find a few good gems here and there.  It's nothing to write home about, but you won't leave feeling like you got robbed.  I suppose my experience was somewhat tainted because a kid vomited at the table next to us and the disagreeable stench of human gastrointestinal acid mixed with whatever that poor kid ate filled my nostrils with every breath.  Two things: I wish the restaurant staff would've helped clean that mess up ASAP for the sake of the other customers; and two, maybe the kid has a point?  The food's not that great....

All in all, I'd say give it a try.  I'd go back perhaps three more times... in my lifetime.

A&W Seafood Restaurant is definitely a miss! If you think this place serves delicious Chinese dishes go to Newport Seafood Restaurant in Alhambra (San Gabriel Valley) instead and you'll see how this place is worst in comparison. Rice was overcooked/mushy, it was plain nasty. Tofu was a joke and not at all decent. The waitress is extremely lazy and does not want to provide quality service. Service is so unsatisfactory where they don't even deserve tip. I'm not going to waste my tastebuds and money at this dump!

Twice I've come here, never disappoints.

Pork and shrimp dim sum as an appetizer? Yes, please!

Walnut shrimp as the main dish and or those shrimp balls? Yes please times two!

The only thing you gotta watch out for is that on weekends it gets packed, and I seriously mean PACKED at around lunch time.

    Service itself is one I'd recommend, they're quick. Only when there's not so much rush going on. ^^;

I forgot to mention, compare shrimp with walnut prices and taste with other Chinese/Mandarin/Szechwan restaurants. This one beats everybody.

Yum yum dim sum.  Sure it's not downtown LA, but it's fabulous and available to us here in the valley.

My hot and tasty tip is the house special "live" crab.  Cooked;  Comes smothered in a yummy garlic dip, with sliced green onions.  The meat is so tender, and licking your fingers is desert.  Get a Tsingtoa beer to wash it down.

My favorite dim sum dish is the sweet walnut shrimp... Tip, get a hot one fresh from the kitchen....

The food is okay and everything but damn was our server rude.

Basically came up to the front desk and she came out of the kitchen chewing on something, didn't even smile and just bluntly asked us how many we were in a PMS-y kind of tone and rushed aaaall the way to the back of the room to an empty table  when the place barely had any customers. Next thing I knew she was slamming the metal utensils asking us to pass it around and banging a stack of plates all without even looking at us. Didn't even say thank you after we left.

Like I said, the food was alright but the atmosphere plus our server being a complete bitch just kind of killed the whole experience. Ugh..

I'm so used to going to Chinatown for dim sum but when my cousins mentioned this place I was down to go.  The wait wasn't that bad considering there were alot of people waiting to be seated. Service was good and there wasn't alot of people walking around with the carts, but it satisfied my cravings.  If I was to crave dim sum again and didn't want to make the drive to Chinatown I would make a trip back here.

The prices were a lil more than the regular prices I'm used to, but what do you expect you are in the Valley

Their tap water taste like sink water, throw some lemons in there, please.
Dim sum is okay for being in the valley, however, doesn't beat chinatown.

    Favorites:
    Shrimp and Walnut
    Wor Wonton Soup
Loc Lac (but needs more sauce)
    House Special Fried Rice

I would have given them 4, but I ordered to go one day and they told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. We got there in 20 and it took another 10 minutes to be ready.

It wasn't bad, but I had such a hankering for dim sim that maybe I'm just being a little tough. The dumplings, fried wontons and shui mai all had a similar fillings, with varying textures of chopped shrimp. The fried squid and wontons tasted like they were fried in the same very old oil, and leaves a greasy aftertaste in your mouth. I think that could have been fixed if they had served it alongside a few wedges of lemon for the squid and perhaps a little bowl of mirin or mild vinegar for the wontons, but that's just me getting all Padma-ish. The stuffed noodles were mushy but the filling was good.

The service: fast and efficient. Servers amble to your table, a tumble of sound comes out of their mouths and you either nod or shake your head.

The good dishes? I'm a sucker for sticky rice; soft plump rice steamed in a banana leaf and filled with a savory mixture of ground pork and dried shrimp, and it was still warm even though I ate it last. The wonton soup was good too, with the wrapper perfectly tender giving way to a nice meaty filling.

I'd eat here again, but definitely steer away from the fried stuff, and I'll definitely order dessert. We didn't get around to ordering any sweet stuff because we were so busy chatting and the cart never slowed down at our table!

I have been visiting this place for a long time with my parents. Considering driving to Chinatown from the valley just for tea lunch is a pain, we come here because it is close by. It's not as good as going to Chinatown, but it is still enjoyable and I don't have to sit in the car for over a hour. Plus, who doesn't want seafood for breakfast?

I noticed lately they have a B rating.. when did that happen? Hopefully that changes, and until then I will take my chances haha. Anyway..

Parking can get a little crowded on the weekends, so sometimes you have to park on the street or outside of the lot. Prices aren't bad at all, you can get full and it doesn't burn a hole in your wallet.

The place is usually clean, aside the area where there is high traffic, the carpet is kinda worn out. Never had a dirty table in all the times I have eaten here.

If you come early enough on a Sunday you will get seated right away, but show up around noon and you will have to wait a bit, it gets a little crowded. It's especially cramped when everyone stands near the door and counter area. I have come on weekdays and it hasn't been so bad and I was seated immediately.

They usually serve dim sum till about 2:30-3pm depending on how crowded it is, after that it is back to the regular menu.

Service is quick, although sometimes loud. That's my people's restaurants for you. The staff is always friendly, in fact I think they remember me enough that they all immediately ask me how many har gao I want before I even look at anything. Don't see something you want? Just ask and they will get it for you, or they will walk to another cart and grab it.

Some items are only served on weekends, like some of the baked dessert buns with the sweet paste inside. If you want those, grab them quick because they disappear kind of fast! D:

Only thing I don't like from here is that nasty walnut shrimp. What blasphemous person decided to make this and slop it with mayo? Gross! I hate mayo. LoL

Some of the things I order: Har gao, Cha siu bao (baked and steamed), sui mai, custard tarts, congee, and Chinese broccoli.

A&W is my go to when I get that craving for dim sum on the weekend and I am in the Valley.

It's decent...but not the best I have ever had.  There is always a wait, usually about 20 minutes.  They have the usual dim sum dishes but sometimes they run out of certain ones if you don't arrive before 1230p.

I love the turnip cake, sticky rice, shu mai, har gow, shrimp and vegetable dumplings, seafood egg rolls, and the red bean rice balls.  The prices are average...I usually end up spending $15/person which includes tax and tip.

The service is friendly and fast.  The only negatives are the "B" rating, sometimes the food is cold, and not enough variety like the dim sum spots in Monterey Park.

If you're going to eat Chinese in the San Fernando valley, forget about Sam Woo (Victory & Sepulveda), this place is it. The selection is good, they speak decent English, the place is clean, the food is fresh, and it's got an "A" rating.

We came here for dinner with a group of friends and ordered quite a few dishes - pork chops with spicy salt, mabo tofu, chicken and salty fish fried rice, ginger beef, and chow mei fun. The portions were large. The food was tasty, but I wasn't left with that MSG thirst like at most places.

Prices are reasonable and the service was good. It wasn't too crowded for a Friday night. There's also plenty of parking behind the place. Can't speak of the dim sum, but for dinner, this place is worth a visit.

Best Dim Sum in the Valley! But come early or expect to wait for seating. It has never disappointed. Great variety of dishes and never a lull between carts. They just keep coming!

We have eaten lunch and dinner here a few times (post-dim sum hours) and it was very good. Just as good if not better than Sam Woo (Victory & Sepulveda.) During a dinner with friends, we had a 4lb. lobster, wonton soup, chicken fried rice, sauteed spinach, shrimp with walnuts and vegetarian egg rolls. It was an epic dinner to say the least. Well-cooked, flavorful, never too salty or sweet or bland depending on the dish. The waiters/waitresses were very helpful and accommodating (albeit a bit tired looking) but didn't bat a lash when I asked for a photo of our party. (Hey, we had happy out-of-town guests, ok?)

Always a great experience and the food is fantastic. No problems with the food or service. Oh! But parking is a pain during busy hours.

I just found my favorite dim sum spot in the SFV. We took a chance and had dim sum at A&W Seafood last week and have been wondering since why we didn't go sooner. There are those days when I wake up craving for dim sum, but seriously dreading the drive out to Monterey Park for Elite's amazing dim sum.

This place is a wonderful substitute for those lazy days. The selection is great as far as I'm concerned because they had everything I wanted. All the A level dim sums are just a few pennies over $2, which also makes this place reasonably priced. Everything tasted great and I did not have MSG thirst the entire day, which is always a huge plus.

We came right when they opened and didn't have to wait at all.

There are ladies pushing carts around, but you can always order stuff from them that's not on their cart. They will gladly yell to their coworker to bring you what you desire.

    My recommendations:

    Chicken feet
    Shu Mai
    Har Gow
    Cha su bao
Sesame Balls with red bean paste

The women that work here are the friendliest I've encountered at dim sum and they all speak English quite well.

I can't wait to come back.

Not the best experience.  We were looking for seafood, we knew it was Asian but thought it would be fun and different, from the minute we walked in it was pretty much a disaster.  The service was not great, considering we were the only people in the restaurant we thought we would have had a little more attention.  We ordered crab and they did not have the right utensils to eat it and the whole meal became a struggle.  They brought all the food out at different times and things like seafood quickly became cold and were no longer edible.  It was a frustrating experience and we left completely unsatisfied.  I gave two stars because some of the flavors were good and there was potential, I just can't say I'll be back anytime soon.

My husband and I decided to try this place...we have had better. The food was okay. It had all the usual dim sum staples. However, it wasn't fabulous. :(

I guess it would be a good place to go if you had a lot of friends in the Valley that did not want to drive alllll the way out to Monterey Park. I would make the drive!

Some of the baked goods did taste a day or two old. But, if you're running low on gas and you want a quick yum cha fix this is your place.

The best thing about this place were the people. The people were very pleasant and very nice.

Been here since the CSUN days...since this spot opened for the first time. I patronized A & W as a student and an employee.

This was my go to place in the Valley for dim sum. It has satisfied my craving for a quick dim sum fix for years. I've had dinner here once or twice but too long ago to remember. And how can I forget the fond memories of when certain Getty friends celebrated my birthday. Days, months, and years passed still I crave the food. It's a bittersweet place as it brings me back to the Simi Valley years. Driving east on a lazy late Sunday morning to get my chicken feet and cow tripe grub on.

Speaking of chicken feet and cow tripe (weekends only), those are the best dim sum dishes here. Sometimes that's all I chow down on. Can you put four chicken toes in your mouth, separate all the skin and cartilage with your tongue and teeth, and spit out the clean bones without using your hands?  I can, pay attention ladies.  HAHA! I know how fattening the chicken feet are but what the hell we only live once, life is short, yada yada...

Some notable dishes is the shrimp wrapped in flat noodles, Chinese broccoli, and beef short ribs.

The quality of food wavers once in a while but overall consistent hence the years of patronage.  Service here is efficient and the prices reasonable.  The wait can be long if you're foolish enough to come after 12 noon but things move along pretty quick.  Oh and the ladies pushing the carts don't mess around, they'll sell you a rock on a plate if they can.

I like coming here because it's super close to where my parents live, and they make some pretty damn good Chinese food. We always order a variety of things every time, and we're rarely ever disappointed.

My biggest issue is that their service stinks. It doesn't surprise me, but it's frustrating when it takes them 10 minutes to even take down your name for a table. And once you get your table, they tend to ignore you. It's happened enough times when I come here that I can't give it a super high rating. That said, their food is good. If you have patience, definitely check this place out!
