Oh my worrrrrrrd but I had a lovely time at A & P Collectibles this morning. My gal pal and I had a playdate in downtown Orange for a little vintage shopping at Elsewhere Vintage around the corner. But I was a bad Yelper girl and didn't check the business hours before we trekked down to Orange, so we had about an hour to kill.
But time to spend in this particular part of town is never too hard to do and when we stumbled upon A & P Collectibles, we couldn't resist. The shop was just opening up and we were the only ones in there the whole time. The glassware, china, earthenware, sterling silver, pins, jewelry, tiny spoons, lamps, tea sets, tea cups, and everything can only be described as enchanting. It was rainy and grey outside, but being in the shop felt like being transported to a different time. These wares were truly beautiful and I don't know much about antique pricing, but for how lovely everything was the prices seemed fair.
But what really stole my heart was the incredible customer service here. The shop owner absolutely could not have been nicer to my friend and I. We were ooh-ing and aah-ing over everything and she took us over to a china cabinet, unlocked it, and presented a cup to us. She taught us how to tell English bone china from Japanese sets and that if you flick the rim and hear a chime then it's real china, uncracked, and perfectly ready to be sipped from. It was such a fun little lesson and I can't wait to go back and equip myself for a proper tea party. Hopefully this store will start the trend!
