A & A Stepping Stone

I run a small stonemasonry business and I've used A & A for a few projects over the years, but since being bought by SiteOne their policies have changed and they're no longer as friendly to contractors as they used to be. You now need to be present in person to by stone, which is a problem for my business because I generally make a trip to the yard to take pictures and samples to pitch to my clients, and once we've made a decision I place the order by phone. This means I need to make 2 trips to the yard for every project, which is not required by any of the other local stone yards. Additionally, they don't allow "first time" customers to pay over the phone, and even thought I've bought thousands of dollars of stone from this company they no longer have my information on file. This place is probably still fine for homeowners, but for contractors I'd recommend sticking to Cascade Rock or Mid Valley Rock.

Huge selection! Beautiful products. Displayed well and many product books to use as inspiration.

Buyer Beware of A & A Ophir:

1) A & A Ophir watch the scales! I don't think they take off for the pallet weight, Rocklin location does. The reason I know is that I had to buy more of the rock stepping stones at the Rocklin location to match what I originally bought at Ophir (Ophir didn't have more). At A & A Rocklin I bought more stone and the weight was less than the stones I bought at Ophir location, Hummm..? Ophir's remedy was to bring in the stepping stone for them to re-weigh it. Pictures were not proof for them of the quantities I bought from each store.
2) As well A & A Ophir over charged/per lb because they didn't take the time to look at the rock. Rocklin corrected me in the rock name because they went out to look at it as I was telling them the name Ophir gave to me of the same type of rock, (which turned out to be less $/per lb.) Credit to Ophir they did refund the difference. With another trip back.
3) I Ordered 10 yards of medium bark, delivered, (which really is large bark as it didn't match sample at the counter). The 10 yards delivered by them was short (per 2 different landscape companies), looking to be around 6 yards. "I should have taken a picture of the pile" was the response at Ophir A & A. I took pictures of what was laid down but that was not acceptable.

I wanted to support local business since I live in Newcastle but I will make the drive to A & A Rocklin now every time. The people there were helpful, and customer oriented.

Like a glove.. everything was great . Everything was good . Boom all over the room .

A&A has a nice selection of stones. I have looked at several other stone supplies - I was not finding what I was looking for and most of the wait times were months out. I liked one of the Buechler sample boards and they offered to bring a pallet out for me to look at the stone more closely. Within minutes they had a pallet out front for me and went above and beyond to assist me in assessing the variation within the pallet. Heidi is very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with!

Thank you A&A stepping stone for helping us complete the fire pit addition onto our backyard. Every step of the way y'all were incredibly helpful. I will definitely return next time we have a landscaping project.

Be careful! If they damage your vehicle, A&A does not take responsibility and blames the damage on you even when they drop almost 2 tons of rock on your vehicle.

Bottom line, A & A loaded the bed of my truck in correctly. The forklift driver dropped it on the tailgate after the driver placed a large rock underneath (because the pallet was stuck on the forks). This caused the tailgate to bend, be bowed, and become unserviceable.

After notifying the company, I had to make several trips to Newcastle and Rocklin and they related that 3,500 pounds dropped on a tailgate is not enough to damage a tailgate and therefore they would not fix the tailgate. They stated, "there is a difference of opinion" and made me feel as if I was a liar who was scamming them. Additionally, this decision was reached only after several hours of my time involving travel, time on phone, and three weeks after being notified.

Terrible customer service, terrible communication on ordered product, and even gave incorrect product in between what we actually ordered which required yet another trip there! First and last time I would ever use this company

Alison @ the Rocklin location was super helpful and willing to take the time with us to get our order planned out. She knows the products and helped us make a few decisions on patterns and colors.

Only complaint was they took forever to load my truck. Turns out they loaded a friend or regulars truck before mine . I hadto wait a additional 45 min.
