Review from Kevin C.
The guys at A & A are straight shooters. I explained what I needed to have checked out and that is exactly what I got.
My battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than a week after sitting on the street. I expected a bad battery but wanted to be sure. They ran the tests on the battery and alternator for $12 (another shop near by was going to charge $25 just to test the alternator). That's a damn good deal to figure out exactly what I needed before planning my next move to AutoZone for a free replacement.
These guys come from a lineage of mechanics and have a great personality. Tell them what the problem is, be up front and that is how you will be treated in return. A1 service. -

They're like uncles from another mother! They are so kind and will give you the honest answer about your car. If they can't help, they'll kindly tell you who can! I look forward to going to them with my auto issues!

Simply the best around the west loop. These guys ( RON & KEN) tell you how it is and how to get it done right the 1st time. If it doesn't need to be fixed they'll tell you up front without all the BS you get with other mechanics. Thanks to Dan at Guy & Sons off Van buren for telling me about A & A. FINALLY a good set of mechanics.. which we all know are hard to find.

I've been here twice and am so glad I found this place! Service was as it should be - quick and painless. Technicians are so polite and really concerned about making sure they solve the problem. The pricing is always reasonable for the services rendered. I'll be back should my car need anything else!

I had a great experience at A & A. I had to drop my car off unexpectedly for maintenance. The staff was friendly, flexible, and honest about availability of auto parts and timing of repairs. They made an otherwise stressful morning run more smoothly. I will use them again if needed (though certainly hope I don't need too!)

If I could give them a billion stars, I would...
These guys are the absolute hands down winner of any auto service provider I've ever encountered. Although they will only take you on if you have been referred by a current client (see - they don't NEED any more business...an excellent sign!), if you are one of the fortunate ones they will treat you and your car with kindness and respect, and will make you laugh too.
They have seen my 2000 Nissan Xterra through some very tough times, even referring me to their friends who own a body shop when my car was slammed into last summer. Never have I been overcharged, or been subjected to any unnecessary services. Surely others would hear a raucous "cha-ching" of their inner cash register when I say "it's making that noise again, and it's doing that clunking thing when I turn," the blessed boys of A&A instead patiently explain why that is happening, and tell me that it's no big deal to fix.
I am by no means a car snob (obviously), but I will never ever bring my car to anyone else, even if it means driving out of my way to get there. I practically owe my friend a new car just for referring me. -

I cannot think of any way to truly express how much I recommend these guys. They are the greatest shop I've ever had experience with.
Being the awesome driver with the awesome luck that I have, I had the glorious experience of leveling a deer somewhere just out of Rockford. A $300 tow to Chicago later and my car was cozily nestled in the parking lot of A & A. Sure, it was 5AM on the Monday morning after New Years weekend when we arrived, but of course there were two kind fellows there, bright and early, helpful and friendly. I got a phone call from Kenny later that morning explaining what he though was wrong with it at a glance, and when I called back and talked to Ron he asked me to make sure my insurance was going to cover repairs before I sunk a load of money into the car.
As everyone knows, insurance companies tend to be much more slow than they are useful, and mine took until Friday to check out my car. The second the insurance company got done with their assessment, the guys ordered all my parts before leaving the shop and viola, my car is ready for me today (Wednesday). Not a bad turn around considering I needed $2000 of repairs and at least 12 bits of deer removed from my underbody.
To top everything off, a bottle of mystery wine exploded in my trunk. The wine was removed and the car was detailed when I picked it up, and I can honestly say it was a load off my mind when I found my car sans wine and sans bits of deer. The car looks better now than it ever has (the front bumper cover has always been a pain in the ass, until the deer destroyed it I had fastened it with zip ties and wood shims...) and is running as good, if not better, than a 98 Altima should.
I have recommended these guys to my roommates, classmates, and strangers in the street, and again, I cannot stress just how awesome this place is. Fast repairs at the right price from guys who care - as long as I'm in Chicago these guys have my business.
PS: if you bring your car in, tell them the deer hunter sent you.
PPS: the map on yelp does not show the right location - they are on the southeast corner of Washington and Aberdeen, just west of Morgan.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

I live around the corner from this shop and often pass by on my way to work. I wanted to get a few parts replaced on my girlfriends car before a long road trip. I know exactly what parts need to be replaced and I looked them up in advance to have an idea on pricing.
I gave them a call and spoke with Ronnie who was extremely controlling and passive during our conversation. I asked to get a quote on labor and not parts as I would be supplying my own. He let me know that the shop will not work on the car if you're not buying the parts through them.
He quoted me $450 (parts only) for two front quick struts, both of which I can find online for $300 total, shipped, new.
Then I requested a price for a transmission mount replacement (after doing about an hour research on why my car shook at idle).
He quoted me $120 for a top engine mount, as he said you'll never need to replace transmission mounts, ever. (Right, a car part that lasts forever, of course!)
Last I requested to have the brake fluid flushed. I didn't mention why (fluid is contaminated) and Ronnie assured me because the car didn't have ABS that it wouldn't ever need to be replaced (again, a car part/fluid that last forever..... right).
Not sure if I'm going to step foot in this shop based on my phone conversation. I'd prefer to work with someone who is in touch with reality rather than someone who banks on "forever" parts and fluids in automobiles. -

A/C went on my 05 Nissan Armada. Called A&A dropped it off 20 minutes later. They checked for leaks, pumped out all the freon and replaced it. Called me 4 hours later. I picked it up and paid way under what any chain would have charged me.
Guys at the shop were friendly and funny. Good group, good service good price. Will definitely go back should other issues arise. -

Wow! I'm very impressed! Stopped in because of the reviews on Yelp and A&A definitely lived up to my expectations. An honest crew, and very flexible. I was in and out in less than an hour with a minor repair that other places would have charged a lot more for. I will most definitely use them again in the future.

I have had my car fixed here twice so far, and I will be coming back for all my auto repairs. Ron and Ken are so helpful and polite. They have done an excellent job fixing my car and helping me understand what they did and why they did it. Getting my car repaired here was also as convenient as possible. You can drop your car off even as early as 6:30 in the morning and Ken and Ron were easy to get ahold of on the phone to get updates on car. My car was ready by the end of the day for both repairs! I'm so glad to have this place in my neighborhood!

This is the best auto place ever. A caring, honest lot. You can drop off any type of dump you happen to be driving around - trust me, I'm still doing it- and they will call you within the hour with the prognosis - and ask you if you want to go ahead with it. How about that?! One time they even called me and had it broken down into categories - that which was imperative to fix for safety, and that which I can blow off until a later time if I was short on cash, but they would also recommend having fixed. Their prices are right, and they will do whatever it takes to keep the cost down for you. So they definitely have your financial interests in mind, and safety too. Plus, they're funny, nice guys and I always feel like hanging out there whenever I go to pick up my ride. A+++

These guys are old school. Something like third generation at the same location. If you have an American made vehicle, this is the shop for repairs. Their pricing is fair and if not OEM parts, quality replacements will only be accepted. They use the manufacturer labor schedule so they can't rip you off. Their pricing is competitive. They do great work, no BS, no repeat returns. I have a very good knowledge of vehicles (but would never tell them that) but I no longer have a space to do my own repairs - I trust these guys to do them for me.

By far the most honest car repair guys in Chicago! In a city this big, and with so many options, I would never ever take my car anywhere else. These guys will never do you wrong or make unnecessary sales pitches for things you don't need (take notes Jiffy Lube). Their prices for parts and labor are very reasonable and lower than the competition. If they could only put a TV camera in here and film the hilarity that goes on in this shop while you wait, it would be the next best reality show!

I love them!!! So honest! It has taken me a really long time to find some honest car service. They tell you exactly how it is. No circling around the issue. No pressure to put things in your car that is not needed.
I will be loyal. So should you!!! -

So I used to be a big fan of this shop. Ronnie and his brother are funny characters who are full of great stories. While they are able to get parts and get the job done, they tend to rush through their work and often make mistakes. The worst mistake was when they changed oil and forgot to replace the oil cap. Next day the engine compartment was completely covered in oil and I had to spend about $10 for a cap and another $40 at the car wash to have the guys detail my engine compartment. That sort of mistake is pretty amatour for a well established shop.

I was really, really pleased with this shop. As a woman I'm always a little leary of taking my car in and getting 'taken' because the shop figures I don't know the difference and will pay whatever... I'd been going to a mechanic up on the way north side, but it was absurdly inconvenient now that I work in the loop.
So, I was thrilled to find A&A (thanks to Yelp!) Kenny (one of two brothers who run the shop) was very nice - direct and yet respectful... I took my 2000 Infiniti G20 in because the 'check engine light' was on; and, there's been this strange noise at 2500 RPMs for about a year, and no one can seem to figure out what it is or where it's coming from. Kenny spent over an hour trying to pinpoint and eliminate it. Once he did (yay!), he told me to pick the car back up, drive it for a few days, and let him know if the sound came back - *then* call him to pay for the services.
Very accommodating and easy to work with. And - most importantly - I don't feel like I was 'taken' whatsoever - would recommend to anyone. -

I called in the morning to see if they were available to take my car. I brought the car in to them. The gentleman who helped me remembered me from the call in the morning. He told me to come back in an hour. He gave me an estimate of $40-50. And when I came back the car was fixed. He said it was no problem, and only charged me $40. The first repair shop I went to was going to charge me $90 just to look at my car and give me an estimate. I will return to A&A.
