A really good comics book shop.

This place is huge!  If you're looking for new comics or old one's you can probably find it here.  I really enjoy shops were you feel like you can spend hours browsing the place and really enjoying yourself.  They have a good selection of comics-related stuff too like clothing and toys.

It'll be great to go back again...

Just because your shop has a large inventory and location, doesn't you can act like assholes and still win your customer service base over. I'd rather have to wait a week to order stuff from a friendly, down to earth shop then go here.

I went there on a Saturday night with four other female friends. We all assumed they closed at 10 like the other A1 on sunrise. When we walked in and started looking, the workers started whispering about us then one looks and said, "Well maybe these girls will stop wandering soon and actually buy something." We had been in there not five minutes, I understand that they close at 8 but instead of telling us this, they made sexist remarks. I will NEVER go back to a comic book store that thinks females know nothing about comics.

I have lived in Sacramento for about 14 years, and after originally shopping around, I am still getting my books here.  Great sales!  Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff.  A1 pulls my books monthly and save them for me to pick up at my convenience, and if ever I have missed a book or overlooked it initially, they have always been able to track one down for me.  Sacramento's best!!!

Granted that Sacramento does not offer a wealth of comic shops, but A1 is hands down the best shop in Sac County.  Every time I visit a new city I go to the comic shops and A1 is even more impressive then anything I have been to in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seattle.  One thing that sets them apart for me is back issues.

A-1 Comics is like part II of the 40 Year Old Virgin - after Steve Carell marries someone with business sense and he leverages his living room shelves into a master collection of epic proportions.

This comic store is so good it has a gigantic vault like Fort Knox - the big metal wheel and stainless steel bolts.  It started out as a bank way back when - but this is sooo much more cool.

The store is three times larger than its nearest competitor Great Escape Games, and has racks and racks of games, comics, figures.  There isn't much A-1 doesn't carry - for example they have a section of just Japanese stuff like weird rice candy and Manga videos, and also a large collection of magazine collectibles like 1930's Sci Fi magazines and such.  They have miniatures of every action figure imaginable strewn in cases throughout the store.

Truly a nerd nirvana.  Next time a boy's birthday comes up or Christmas rolls around - do the geek in your life a huge favor and skip Target and give A-1 a try.

Ummm... these guys are awful. Don't shop here and buy all the rare and unique stuff they have in stock any given day of the week.

In need of some awesome Mario Bros. imports direct from Japan? Don't go to A-1! I mean, they might have some awesome Mario Bros. imports from Japan, but seriously, why would you want to shop at a store that supports COMMUNISM!

And hey! Don't go looking through the boxes and boxes and boxes of comics and Magic trading cards and action figures, because, honestly it's a lot of work, and then you end up buying the last copy of Runaways #25 and I'm stuck having to wait for the TPB...

And seriously, don't even waste your time talking to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, cause they're gonna suggest amazing titles, and the titles will sell out, and then I'll have to wait for the TPB again.

Please, whatever you do, don't sign up for the card and table top tournaments, because the competition is already pretty tough in that store, and we don't need your crazy elf regenerating green deck wrath of goding everyone. Just trust me on this one. (The other players cheat, too, which explains why I haven't won yet.)

Ignore the other reviewers, they're smoking their latest issue of Ultimate Spidey or something, because this store is not worth your time or trouble. It's just a massive former bank with an insane amount of stuff that you'll spend hours exploring, when you really should use that time to learn a new language or take a walk along the American River or visit your mother, who probably would love to see you come out of the basement more often.

I'm not your usual comic book nerd. I don't like super hero stuff, and I can't ever imagine doing anything related to comic cards/games/things-that-require-costumes. I like graphic novels that involve (usually angst-y) illustrative writing. This store is big. It's got a great selection. If you're into more traditional stuff - this is like a comic book wet dream place for you. But for those of us who sort of stand out like a sore thumb, it's almost as good as your going to get in sacramento.

I found a few Top Shelf Comix here as well as some buried other indie comics/graphic novels. You're going to have to scan through the shelves of "traditional" comics, but they are there.

There is no doubt that this place has a great inventory. But if your looking for that friendly and helpful "greet you at the door" experience, you'll be disappointed.  The folks here could care less about customer service. I use A-1 as my last resort for comics and games.

This place is friggin' huge. Just looking at the wall of Silver and Golden Age comics is intimidating and awe-inspiring. Prices are decent. These are collectibles and the shop is a business, so let's be fair here. The staff is very kind and not meddling or weird. I really should go here more often and so should you.

A-1 Comics, owned by Brian Peets (played in the NFL), fulfills the comic book nerd's fantasy.  Brian and his wife do a great job meeting the needs of newbies, casual fan, and hard core collectors like myself.  I have bought from Brian at WonderCon, San Diego Comicon, and his bricks and mortar fortress.  When I am up in Sacramento, I always drive by to see what he has.  The old store on Madison was great, but I absolutely love the bank vault.

One time, I asked Brian for a copy of Richie Rich #1, and he just happens to have an affordable copy.  A-1 probably has more back issues than any other shop in California, especially Silver Age and plenty of Golden Age.  Brian provides great service at a great price.  The older comics are very fairly graded.   If you want the new stuff, old stuff, action figures, expensive statues, A-1 probably has it.

As a hard core collector, who has bought in London, New York City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and annually attends San Diego Comicon (even before it became trendy), I highly recommend A-1 Comics as world-class.

This place is comics nirvana. They have all kinds of things that you just won't find in your typical neighborhood comics shop - lots of fun collectibles, tons of comics and poster, games etc. The place is giant - the building looks like it used to be a bank - and it still has a large vault inside where they keep the "GOOD STUFF" cool! If you are a comics fan and you are cruising through Sac. on 80 - I recommend stopping by - totally worth the short off-road jaunt.

It's been a few months since my first review and I have to say, things have changed at A-1 on Auburn Blvd, and only for the better!  Every Friday night is now packed with at least 16-20 players.  Just tonight we had 25!  There's still a great mix of players, ranging in skill from beginners on up to seasoned "pros" who know the game in and out.  Stop by if you're looking for a fun, relaxed, and supportive play environment.

This is the best comicbook store I have ever been to in California. You can tell this location used to be a bank and they keep the most valuable items in the vault. They are at least double the size of a regular comic book store and have a ton of back issues, games, figurines, graphic novels, action figures, comics and so much more! They do hold card tournaments here on the weekends. Check out their website for more details. When I first started going there they had a life-size Yoda mannequin and last time I was in they had a life sized Spiderman, both are on display at this location! This is also a good place to pick up classic toys and action figures. They have a huge wall of new comics, and this is where I picked up most of my Preacher and Sandman graphic novels. They also hold some awesome sales so be sure to sign up for their in store mailer. This comic book store is awesome be sure to check it out if you can! They have a vast selection of action figures in this store and some of the classic ones too so if you are a collector or just a comicbook fan I can't recommend this store enough! This is the comicbook mothership you have been waiting for. Love this store! Picked up the complete Alan Moore Future Shocks which is a Sweet UK import. And I got some great Goon, Concrete, and Sin City graphic novels at sale prices!

So I like this comic book store. I really do. Its got a ton of stuff, a nice layout yadda yadda yadda. There was a few things about the store I didn't love. 1. Don't give me that "are you lost?" look when I walk in the door. Yes I happen to be a girl and yes I may dress well, and not wear spiderman tee's, but that doesn't mean you should automatically judge me. NO I'm not here for a gift for my little brother. It's for me. Thank-you-very-much. 2. When someone finally does approach me to help me, I tell them what issue I'm looking for and we proceed to take a full tour of the store, they have NO IDEA where it is...I'm finally the one who spots it. 3. OK, I get it you have alot of issues to scramble through, but I mean come on it came out YESTERDAY, don't you have a new releases section or something?  One nice thing was I only brought my credit card and the cashier totally let me use it even though he wasn't supposed to. Thank you random tall dude. Overall I walked out happy, mostly because I had my comic and I figured that I just came in jeans and a sweatshirt next time I might have better luck....
