Crazy flavors -peanut butter and jelly, fig almond, goat cheese- but ALWAYS amazing* Coming up with your flavor combination is half the fun, as is trying to sneak a smile from the counter help who clearly do not share my gelato enthusiasm. Great espresso and fun hipster sightings, my perfect after dinner treat.

Truly the best gelato I've had in LA.  It's not quite italy, but it sure is close.

Located on Sunset in Silverlake this place really is awesome.  I've been here a few times.  The staff is extremely friendly and willing ot pass out samples.  In particular the owner is super nice.  She's always making excellent suggestions and making people feel welcome.

I hope her business continue to do well cause she seems pretty cool.

The hazelnut and mascarpone together is an awesome combination.  If they have it available try it!

But the best part of this place is we just don't know what's going to be available till we get there, it's always a treat!

The best gelato I've had outside of Italy so far (and the first spot I'd found that had the yogurt flavor that I love so much). The flavor combos are always delightful and surprising.

Pazzo is a Silverlake Miracle; this is the best place for ice cream in LA, bar none.

Do the math!

Quality Obsessed + Creative selections + Friendly Folks + Beautiful location = Best Gelato this side of a Roman side street

The Idea is to sample, sample, sample until you know you have the best possible combo. Request your samples 2 at a time because you can put one on each end of a spoon (more samples and less waste)

The flavors change all the time, so I won't go into specifics but I love the flavors that have European yogurt and mascarpone.
I like to have an espresso with my gelato because I like the back and forth between and sweet and bitter, in my mind that is the Italian way but I have no real basis to claim such knowledge. Pazzo gets their beans from Intelligentsia and they have a proper machine hence the quality, but I have already mentioned that they are obsessed.

Pazzo is a great place to bring a first date because gelato sampling and flavor selection is a great way to judge character! (oh and it is romantic too)

I have had better in Italy but they deserve 5 stars

Mm, mm, good! I love this local gelateria! I treat myself here every once in a while and boy is it great every time! I only wish their website was updated w/flavors everyday so I know what to look forward to. The service is quick and friendly and I've never had to wait more than 5mins to get served. I often thought "geez what a waste of plastic spoons and cups"...turns out they're biodegradable! Great job Pazzo Gelato!

Look here, young Yelpers of Yelp Land.  I'm gonna throw around a little of my well-traveled clout and start with a preface:

I lived in Florence for appx. 5 months, and so therefore am an expert on gelato and therefore very qualified to give you a review.

Now, as-o a gelato expert-o... I-o must-o tell-o you that-o this-o gelato bar-o is legit-o-mia.

That was annoying. I'm annoyed.  I'm not sorry.

This place has the home-made, ever changing flavors one might find while roaming the streets of Rome (cool word play, me!), with the laid back, understated atmosphere of Silverlake.  Good for you Pazzo.

This place also has mexican hot chocolate and apparently really great lattes.  So there.  There you have it.

You're co-dependant. I'm gelato-pendant.  And, I don't even know what that means.

I am not the first to obnoxiously claim it, but it is worth noting that I too had the glorious experience of living in Florence, Italy. I practically got a PhD in gelato-- the ladies at the gelateria a few blocks from my apartment were repulsed by me.

Years later, I have continued on the impossible quest to find a gelato substitute. My friends, Pazzo Gelato is the next best thing that I've had not only in Los Angeles, but all of Southern California. I don't know why reviewers continually compare Pazzo Gelato to Scoops-- to me, they are two totally separate concepts. Scoops is great, but Pazzo Gelato is epic.

Pazzo Gelato, my ever-expanding ass and thighs thank you.

My fondest childhood memories on ice-cream mostly came from those summers we spent in France and Italy, but I started to like gelato only recently when my friend from NYC visited and we went to that cute cafe in Culver City...

So, 2 weeks ago when someone asked to be taken to Pazzo Gelato on his birthday, I was pretty excited. They had a handful of gelato to choose from, but my tastebuds were only moderately impressed.

All in all, I think I like that furry fellow sitting next to us more than the gelato... I wonder if they also have gelato for puppies?

An automatic 5 stars for giving me the best white chocolate and creme fraiche with blueberry combo last night!  My friend had the tiramisu and almond chip which also looked scrumptious.  I have ordered a pint of the plain marscapone to serve at a dinner party with my own orange-raspberry sauce and it was a hit!  Thank you Pazzo!

As for the place itself, it's has a sidewalk cafe atmosphere.  The staff is very friendly, I would even say they are the friendliest staff I have ever encountered anywhere!  Bekkett, the guy sporting the cabbie hat, is a pleasure to chat with.

You can also order coffee and fizzy drinks as well but I have only tried the gellato each time I've been here.

This gelato spot is usually crawling with customers and tonight was no exception. Somehow I managed to step in through the floor to ceiling glass door at a time when no one was in line. The 24 flavor case was showing signs of earlier evening carnage. I was offered to taste something and I obliged.

Although the wine or pomegranate sorbettos looked bright and refreshing, the creamy varieties were calling my name. I settled on a small bowl of De Saronno Amaretto and Creme Fraiche. A small bowl actually comes with two overloaded scoops of the stuff and must be consumed quickly before drippage occurs.

Being shunned from my coffee fix this evening since Intelligentsia closes at 8pm on Tuesdays, I joyously ordered a small coffee after seeing a bag of theirs atop the counter. Although the coffee was dispensed via a Zojirushi canister, it was a smooth dark treat, perfect for shocking my tastebuds back to life inbetween licks of gelato.

According to the staff, the gelato is crafted utilizing the cold process method, which I have mixed feelings on due to premade bases which result in a lower quality product. But like a McDonald's soft serve cone, manmade flavorings do taste pretty good.

The creme fraiche was creamy and softly scooped with my little flat spoon. The amaretto reminded me of the innards of a Lindt hazelnut truffle-gooey faint almond flavored chocolate absorbed little bit of nuts throughout.

In terms of vibe, Pazzo Gelato has an open feel with an entirely glass storefront and plenty of sidewalk seating. The inside seats look cozy too, but aren't very good for people watching. Pazzo offers gelato sundaes, shakes, and espresso or soda floats, so there is plenty of room for customization of your dessert. A solid standard espresso and tea menu tops it all off.

With good atmosphere and late hours, Pazzo Gelato makes for a good social gathering spot.

Pazzo Gelato has all the makings of a Favorite Place: central location in the heart of Sunset Junction, reasonable prices (meaning, cheaper than Pinkberry), outdoor seating with a good view for people watching (and dog watching), and most importantly, an adventurous but tidy selection of flavors. But for some reason I find the gelato here utterly forgettable. The flavors just don't have as much impact as I hope. Perhaps someone with a more subtle sweet tooth might like it better? Try as I might, I never crave Pazzo. When I'm in the neighborhood and get the sugar itch, I keep driving.

I was never too good in math, but I can easily compute the following equation:

Pistachio + Chocolate + Espresso + Gelato =  AMAZING!!!!

I wound up here on a whim in an attempt to satisfy a post-dinner sweets craving.  Wow.  I mean.  WOW.  The gelato-ista was most helpful and offered my friend and I tastes of a few different flavors.  The chocolate-cayenne-rum flavor was also quite good (you have to wait for the spicy kick...it comes!), but the debate was over for both of us once tasting the pistachio-chocolate-espresso.

The only criticism I have of this place is the rather creepy looking clown mask they have hanging over the "Employees Only" entrance.  (****Shivers****)  Just don't look at it.  Trust me.

When life throws you gum grafts, make gelato.  Or better yet, get someone else to make it for you -- preferably the stupendously brilliant gelato-makers from Pazzo Gelato who have made me a believer that frozen deliciousness really does make everything better.  Including surgery-torn gums.

This past Friday I had the second round of gum graft surgery to rectify a most alarming receding gumline.  It's not so pretty, but I'm a trooper of the para variety, and like Christian on Project Runway, I made it work.  I wasn't about to throw myself a pity party, but the fabulous Miss Jennifer J., my gum graft sister in crime (she's also had the procedure done), was kind enough to acknowledge that oral surgery most definitely deserves some sort of reward of the creamy variety.  Insert: Pazzo Gelato.

I don't really know where to go from here.  Do I wax on about the patience of the burly counter man who was most eager to dole out samples of all the flavors (almond fig, banana, pistachio) I wished to taste?  Do I mention how much I adored the small spoons that made for perfect ladylike-sized bites of the exquisite gelato, or how I found the bio-degradable flower-shaped cups that come in small (2 scoops), medium (3 scoops), and large (don't know how many scoops, but should you really be eating that much anyway?) too precious for words?  Or do I simply leave a cautionary note to the future patronizers of Pazzo Gelato?  Are you worthy of such insider knowledge?  Hmm.. perhaps... but only because I like you. ;)

WARNING: Do not sample more flavors than you intend to purchase.  If you are having one flavor (a possibility even though there doesn't appear to be a size smaller than the small), only sample one flavor.  If you are having two scoops, sample two flavors.  Why?  Because the gelato is so very very good, the ingestion of more samples than intended scoops leads to cognitive distress in the ordering decision-making process.  While I settled on the almond fig paired with a scoop of the banana, I so adored the pistachio that I lapsed into a momentary brain freeze that could not be attributed to rapid-consumption of frozen products.  It was horrifically difficult to part ways with the pistachio that brazened my tongue with such a profound nuttiness, but it was inevitable that one of the flavors would have to be left behind for one of the other pleasant customers to enjoy at one of the tables inside the gelateria or outside on the patio.  Fortunately, because Pazzo Gelato boasts a much later bedtime (Sun-Thurs 11 pm, Fri & Sat 12 am) than me, I know I can come back to savor a scoop on many other occasions in the future.  Like when I stub my toe... or break a nail... or get a paper cut.... or stab this pencil into my thigh...

Even though I give this place three stars, it's only because, if you've never been to Scoops (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), Pazzo Gelato is a decent place. If you've been to Scoops, don't bother. I actually threw away the second scoop of my gelato. Yes, it was freezing outside so that had something to do with it, but if it was actually good, I would have kept eating it even though I was getting frostbite inside and out.

Pazzo Gelato is seriously nothing special. I don't know why but when I imaged Pazzo Gelato, I imagined crazy flavors like Scoops. All they had that day seemed pretty standard and nothing really knocked my socks off. I tried the guava and kiwi flavors, which were both a little icy and not very smooth. The kiwi was a little too tart too and just didn't really taste like it came from the fruit itself.

As for paying for my gelato, I couldn't help but think of Scoops $2 / 2 scoops price. I mean, for $4 I'm paying for (what I consider) mediocre gelato, I could have gotten four creative and awesome flavors at Scoops!

All in all, I was very disappointed.

As you can tell, I'm a bit biased but please, go to Scoops instead. It'll make your life so much better.

**UPDATE**
I went back again today with a friend who wanted gelato and I must admit, today wasn't half bad. Actually, it was pretty damn good. The flavors still can't compete with Scoops though...

I lived in Italy two years ago and this is by far the best gelato I've ever had. They have the best flavors, and it all tastes so fresh. All the people who work there are really nice and will let you taste all the flavors you want.

Beware: Getting a pint or quart to take home is deadly - you might eat it all in two days.

Dear Skinny Hipster Female Who Does Not Know What Flavor She Wants, Who Is Holding Up The Line Pretty Badly

What is this, an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm?  How can you have NO IDEA what your favorite flavors are by this point in your life?  You look like you're 32 years old, mang. Either you like chocolate or you don't, lady.

I just returned from 3 weeks in Tuscany.  Somewhat cultural, but primarily an eating orgy.  I know these are big words, but they're real.   There is no better gelato anywhere in the world that I have been to.  Some just as good. None better.  6 trips to Italy. All regions.

It  makes the east side tolerable for 30 minutes or so.

Sublime.

Try em when they got em -

lemon

Also, they stay open pretty late on weekends.  Nice.

Wow. Reading these reviews makes me excited for my next visit to Pazzo, because as excited as I was to find flavors ranging from cinnamon to peanut butter and jelly to to mimosa to hazelnut chip (my ultimate choice after tasting um like everything), the flavors being described here are even more exciting! What a great little spot. It's a little expensive, but they definitely load you up on the gelato so I felt like I was at least getting my 4.75 worth. Everybody's friendly and they have a full coffee bar as well, although....why? I'm a coffee fiend, but I can't think of a latte when I am being confronted by berries and cream gelato. A must visit. And as a side note for the vegans/lactose-intolerant folk out there... vegan chocolate gelato? Wow. Completely made the night of my lactose intolerant dining companion!

It's always a pleasure to see the lambs behind the counter, beaming to have you try their latest.  They know how to treat a lady and her roommates who are regulars... always mounding to Mount Olympus heights in those mini fluorescent plastic chalices.  One decadent evening I ordered the brownie sundae.  Between 5 and 10 minutes later, from behind the back emerged a smiling man in a Rasta hat, presenting to me, a sundae decorated enough to make my Christmas tree jealous.  Peaks of whipped cream, waterfalls of real hot fudge, at least 4 maraschino cherries and tons of nuts all atop 3 scoops of gelato and a warm fudge brownie.  It was an awesome sight to behold and to see how happy he was to hand it to me.  I had to hug him.

And I can't forget... my favorite I've had there:  their fig and toasted almond.  A chiaroscuro of warm flavor and cool to the touch. It's an almond cream, a spattering of finely chopped toasted almonds and gooey fig marbling with a subtle crunch from its seeds. .. and has me singing praises to the motherland of Greece for offering such a fine fruit to keep the company of such a beautiful nut.  Now if only I ate so much of it that its wonderful aroma continuously oozed from my pores...

Adventurous flavors, beautiful rich consistency.  Maaaan, Pazzo Gelato has it all right.  While it may not be quite the same as a paddle-full of straciatella as you are walking down the Via Corso, its pretty damn good.

The place and staff here are GREAT!. I just have to voice my opinion about the gelato. Well, it's not really fair to call it gelato. Yes, they have many flavors, and it's enduring. It's just not gelato. It's safe to say, that this is just ice cream, and nothing else.

As far rating it, as ice cream. I'd say it's decent. I am comparing it to Baskin Robins, and that's hard to beat! Giving BR a 9, I'd give this place a 5.5.Not bad in the scheme of things.

The patio is great though, and that gets one star alone. It's even heated! I know, ice cream & heat do not mix. Ice cream on a cold night, sounds like an oxymoron, but it's actually a dynamic duo!

I haven't tried to cookies here, but I shall soon. I'm sure I'll be back here, to get some ICE CREAM.

I don't trust people who don't like dessert. Gelato, especially. I once had the misfortune of dating this creep (see "Vietnamese Soy Cafe" review) who disliked sweets. From this, I realized that I could never trust a man who didn't like dessert. Call me crazy, but if you don't like sweets, we aint gonna party.

Pazzo Gelato rules.

They have the most wonderful flavors of Italian ice cream bliss. Everything is delicious. Sometimes I daydream about their white peach gelato. They really excel at gelato of the fruity kind. Pazzo also made me a believer in cinnamon gelato (oh geez, it's sooo good!!). I've never tried anything too adventurous here, but all the flavors look great. Everybody who works there is very friendly. I have nothing but love for Pazzo.

I don't see how anyone couldn't absolutely adore this place. Pazzo Gelato is dreamy. And In my opinion, people who enjoy sweets (especially gelato) are the people you want to party with :)

I love Pazzo Gelato for its tasty inventive (but not crazy) flavors like single origin coffee...yup, sumatra gelato does taste different from columbian gelato.  The lighter texture (not as buttery as ice cream) was perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

You can also get Boule's macaroon here for $1.50 a piece.

Parking was a minor pain...and outdoor seating was filled...but I'll be back

This place is awesome!  I visited LA last week and had to go here twice to get gelato.  They have a small inside space, but a great patio to sit and chat while you (or maybe it was just me) inhale the gelato.  The service is great, even when it takes several tastes to decide which one you want to eat.  I had the toasted almond with fig and toasted almond with espresso as well as the mint chip.  They were all fantastic.  My friend Tova got some of the European yogurt, which was delicious as well.  There is a parking lot in the back making it easier to drop by for a scoop.  I will definitely go back when I return to LA.

I don't think this place really needs any more reviews, but here goes another that's probably not too relevant.  Since its doing pretty good on the review front, I'll just tell a story about my experience here.

We came here because we were on the list to eat breakfast across the street and the wait was about 15 minutes.  Now, if I don't eat when my tummy, who's named Edmond, says "Feed Me!", I get a headache and turn into one of the biggest all-time bee-yatch's ever.

Standing in line, G says I can't believe you're going to eat ice-cream for breakfast.  I've never thought this was weird because my parents used to let me eat ice-cream for breakfast as a kid, which I told him.  The rationale is that it has things you'd normally eat at breakfast, like milk, in it.  At this point, the little girl before me turns around and says to her dad, with this look of utter betrayal, "See, she gets to eat ice-cream for breakfast!"  Whoops!  Sorry, dad dude.

Anyway, I liked this place a lot.  They let you sample things.  The gelato is super creamy and rich.  I had the Mascarpone with gingersnap, which was ok, and the Espresso Chip, which was awesome.  I like how the cups are bio-degradable.  Minus a point because they didn't have anything in the deep, dark chocolate that I love.

So - first the good news - this is excellent ice cream.
pistachio - in your face pistachio flavor with nice toast
chocolate - major flavor bomb - huge chocolate flavor
chevre - interesting and sweet - very good

now the bad news - this is not gelato it is american ice cream.
1) served at 5-10 degrees too cold
2) Too creamy on the palette - they have too much cream in here

If you're in the area it is good.  Scoops is the real deal though.

I am not gonna rant and I'm not gonna rave.
I'm just gonna say, I'm not convinced this place is really all that good.
Its not bad, but last night, despite being latem, they had two types of vanilla, and three types of a combo of strawberry and vanilla, and then cofee hazlenut, and chocolate, of a couple differnte versions.
Where is the interest? Where is the creativity?
I ate my scoop, I didn't complain, it was tasty, rich, not too melty. It was good.
Just not something I'm gonna be drawn to every time i drive by, which is twice a day.

Parking is out back in the lot, or street, prices are 2 bucks for a scoop, seating is outside on the sidewalk in comfy-ish chairs.
Come here to watch the hipsters, and their parents.

I love that you can get some gelato and sit outside and just enjoy the day. The outdoor seating is great with a nice view of all the trendy shops. Too cold to sit outside? Well they have heat lamps with these plastic sleeve protector thingys to protect you from the often harsh elements of Los Angeles. Hmmm, I have yet to comment on the gelato itself. Well it's FANTASTIC!

So perhaps I'm extremely biased because I live up the street and frequent Pazzo Gelato a lot but I think that this place is epic. Yes, I agree that its expensive but the flavors are incredible! They are also very consistent (never had anything bad) and the staff is always so friendly. The esspresso, free wifi and tables and chairs on Sunset earn it 5 stars! (oh yes...and they accept debit cards with no minimum charge...God bless them)

Pazzo gelato translated means crazy gelato. This place just wasn't crazy enough for me. i got the gelato milkshake made with the fig and almonds and my date got the cantaloupe. Cantaloupe was great (i don't think you can go wrong with  cantaloupe ever). But the fig gelato shake, waaaay to sweet for my taste. I have yet to go back because if i have a bad experience at a place, i tend not to give it another chance. If i want gelato i would go to Al gelato for their red wine sorbet or i can just go to scoops which is actually minutes away from pazzo.

Moving to LA in September, I was a gelato newbie. Outside of Italy, I don't think gelato's exactly sweeping the nation.

So, hey, before I knew better, Pazzo Gelato was the spot! Hot day? Pazzo. Rainy night? Pazzo for a machiatto and a gelato.

What a fool I was.

A) I NEVER finished all my gelato. I just figured I didn't really like the stuff. And I sort of got sick of it after 5 bites.
B) the line is always NUTS, anytime of day or night.
C) all the fruity flavors taste sour and unripe.

Also, like Judy says, once I've gone to Scoops, Pazzo's Nazzo for me. Ever again. In fact, I'm heading to Scoops RIGHT NOW!
