My band performed here last night. It may seem small when you enter in, but it just adds to the intimacy. I was definitely sweating after our 30 minute set, due to the small space, the lights, my attire, and the performance adrenaline, but it was definitely good times and well worth it.
For a venue that isn't built for music, it's actually pretty good. The people who ran the stage that night were very nice, too. I kinda wish that they didn't set up the seats since we wanted people to stand up. It's a rock concert, people! You don't sit and watch; you listen and dance!
I am biased, I know. But really, this theatre is awesome. Why? Because how often can you go to a play, bring your friends, a bottle of wine and make it a crazy night out? Well, as often as you come to the Off-Market theater and see their shows.
A black box theater, this intimate space allows for the imagination to run wild. A lot of hard work, time, energy and heart goes into the shows here. Definitely worth the trip. You are in for a unique experience.

I have a soft spot for this place. I've rehearsed for two shows here and am currently performing there now. You'd totally miss the place if you weren't looking for it, because the theater is on the 2nd floor of an office building. It's situated in a very convenient spot next to the Chronicle building and very close to Powell Street Bart. The place has two stages(one for CAFE and one for Custom Made Theatre Company) and a couple of rehearsal spaces. The folks who operate it are passionate about theater. If you're in the "industry" then it's a great place to put on a show or rehearse and if you're a theatergoer, it's a great place to see an intimate show and support the local performing arts.

Theater where outside food and drinks are allowed? Yes, please! My experience at this theater was very pleasant. Its intimacy adds something to the show. The bathrooms are a little shady and the hallways have a really weird smell, but hey! It's an old building. Check this place out, good times!

I just saw Santaland Diaries at this theater this past weekend, what a super treat. It's a satirical and hilarious play about a Macy's elf, and should be a part of any holiday season! Did I mention, it's by David Sedaris?!?
Off Market is actually two theaters: Stage 205 and Stage 250), and both are cozy and oh so intimate , each holding probably less than 100 people. I was looking over their 2007 schedule and it's quite promising; Ray of Light, one of my favorite local theater groups, is putting on The Last Five Years (http://www.roltheatre....), in January. Come out and support local theater, y'all!
