They make pretty decent burgers here.  It's not a bad place to check out if you are in the area.  I don't know if I would plan a trip here but if I was in the area and was in the mood for a burger I would stop in.

Keeping it simple.

2 stars for the burger.  It's really just ok at best.  Pies and Thighs always did a much better burger, as does Diner.  Even Sweetwater's burger puts Dumont to shame.

But definitely 4 stars for the Mac n' cheese.  It soooo rocks.

(Honestly, this is NOT the best burger in the 'Burg, no matter what anyone says.  Including Ron K., who obviously isn't eating enough burgers.)

Oh yeah, and notice how all of the 5-star reviews are from 2007!!!!  (Shilling, perhaps?)

I'm gonna stop. I just punched myself in the groin for annoying myself so much.

The burgers are freakin' good. They can cost you upwards to $20, but do I dare say that it's worth it for ground chuck hamburger? The fries for some reason aren't the best. I'm a fat fuck and usually lick the plate clean but I never seem to want to finish my fries there. That's probably the only reason I don't give this place 5 stars.

This place serves the best hamburger in NYC hands down.  In fact the only burger I have ever eaten that was better was at the restaurant Zin somewhere in Sonoma County.  My wife licks her fingers and smells her hands for hours after eating at Dumont.  Dining in, take out or delivery are all done in a timely fashion with decent to good service.  The place is really small (except during summer front patio months) so not a great spot for groups.

I don't understand the negative reviews.  I've only been there once, but I really liked it.  My burger was plump and cooked perfectly.  The fries were pretty good, too.  The restaurant is small, so finding a seat can be a problem.  We ended up eating at the counter, sitting on stools, which was fine.  Also, it's a bit pricey for what it is.

OK.  So everyone knows this place is over-hyped, over-crowded, and overpriced.  But - they do make a tasty burger.  However, for two cheeseburgers that you carry home in a bag and sit and eat in front of your tv, because there was no seating available, and you've just spent $30 - you tend to think, hey - I could have had sushi for this kind of money.

Granted, it's a good burger.  And it is increasingly difficult to find decent, reasonably priced burgers anywhere in the area.  If it's under ten bucks it's usually pretty low quality, so I guess this place is worth it?  If you like burgers?  Then again, this place might be the reason why all the other hamburgers in the area are so expensive.  Sigh.  Burgers.  I want one.

Yeah I'm with Anni.
The burger is good.
I'm weary of brioche buns, but this one wasn't too big and was very soft.
The patty was very well seasoned, the veggies crisp and fresh, and the cheese impeccably melted.
Dinner with the lady and a friend and had like 2 drinks each and spent 110 bucks.
Aw, crap.
Although everything was pretty damn tasty I wanted to burn this place down.
I'd give the burger 3 stars, but after the check I want to  knock her down to two - eh fuck it - take three because I'm generous and bored.
Sorry Dumont.
I wanted to love you so badly, but It was you - not me.

Dear DuMont Burger,

I want you inside me.

Uhhh...I mean, strictly in the digestive way. I know that I have gotten around, tasting other burgers, but I really think you are the one. You are so juicy, and tender and BIG- I like 'em big. The way you wear that brioche bun with your no-frills lettuce, tomato, onions and not-from-a-jar pickles... it makes my mouth water just thinking of you. I also like when you bring a large heaping of your friend french fries around with you, for added pleasure. I also love how cool you are when I want to hang with your other delicious non-meat friends, like chickpea burger and mac n' cheese. Although, I didn't care for your friend onion rings- way too bland.

I know that people think that you are scene-y, and you can be very crowded and cramped sometimes- but, hey- you are worth the wait!

All I'm all trying to say is that I think we should take our relationship to the next level by seeing each other... once a week? That is usually the amount of time it takes for me to feel hungry again. What do ya say?

Call me,
Annie

I'm definitely not a burger connoisseur.  I can tell when a burger's bad, but I can't tell when a burger's really great.  My burger here was yummy enough, though not fantastic enough to warrant a "OMGGGGGG let's pleeeaaaaseeeeee go back to Dumont Burger" whine.  The patty wasn't as yielding as I would have liked, though the brioche bun and butterhead lettuce were a nice touch.

The onion rings were sadly soggy, but the mac & cheese was awesome.

Should definitely be a staple for those who live in Williamsburg. Service is fast, food is good.

The burgers? Fantastic! Cooked as you like them - 9 times out of 10, they are spot on with the meat cooking. You can also pile as many things in your burger as you want like caramelized onions, avocado and mushrooms... (for a minimal extra cost, of course)

Other things that you should try are the chicken burger with jalapenos and avocados, the ceasar salad and the mac & cheese - this is in descending order of yumminess

I tried the chickpea burger once and it definitely could've have chipped my precious teeth ... so .. sorry! i would have to take 1 star off for that ...

Great burger, solid mac n cheese for a side dish.  The burger is not quite Shake shack level but not far behind.  Great onion rings too.  And the one question I have every time I go there is ...which is longer from end to end..Flatbush Ave or Bedford Ave???

I enjoyed a tasty burger at Dumont.  Honestly, I expected to see more of a variety of burgers on the menu.  I was pleased to find a mini burger (5 oz). I enjoyed a tasty bowl of chilled cucumber soup on a VERY hot day.

It's a cozy little spot that plays pretty good music.  I'd imagine that it takes a while to get a table outside.  Great people watching!

Avocado on the side = guacamole = delicious!

Your food would taste much better if your take-out staff wasn't such a bunch of clueless, pretentious fucks. Seriously folks, push the buttons on the screen, make change, and ask if I need condiments when you hand me the food. That's all there is to it. I don't need the eye-rolling, the sighs of discontent, and the absolute world-weariness that takes over your face when a customer - any customer - walks through the door.

Dumont Burger falls victim to its praise.  It's reputation within the Brooklyn, mainly Williamsburg community, is matched by few.  Don't get me wrong the burger is good...but the best in Brooklyn...maybe that is overstating the case.  The mac and cheese is good too but nothing to write home about.  Sure I've been here a couple of times because it is a good burger spot but I don't know why so many people love it as much as they do.  And how this place fills up throughout the night so quickly...makes it a place to skip if your want to breathe without sharing air with twenty other people in a limited area.  If I could give it a 3 and half I would but since I can't I will give it a generous four.

Definitely a tiny spot in terms of seating capacity. I've tried the burgers, mac and cheese, and fish sandwich, all of which I enjoyed. The mac and cheese is definitely very tasty, and very much the same as the other DuMont location near Lorimer. The actual seating, however, is extremely uncomfortable. I found myself slouching and figidity because my lower back was aching. Guess I'm not a fan of stool seating. I like to be comfortable when I'm eating. I don't think I'd go out of my way to patronize again, but if I happen to be in the neighborhood and looking for a bite to eat, perhaps I'll eat here again...but not if it's crowded. The place is already way too cramped.

Yey!! there is more seating at Dumont Burger. The burgers are the best I have ever had. It has been really difficult to go back and eat a regular burger somewhere else. The fries are very good, I believe their homemade. We usually start out with the mac and cheese, very rich. Great for sharing. The onion rings are out of this world. If there was a better word for comfort food, Dumont Burger would be that.

Alright, I'm not going to lie to you. 99% of the time I go to Dumont Burger it's after fooling around with my girl and we're both ready for some awesome grub.

Dumont Burger never disappoints. Order your burger with any fixings you choose, but I promise it's best if you go medium rare.  As for the sides, the rings are like tempura onion donuts (awesome,) the salad is refreshing and well dressed, & the fries are always fantastic.

The Brioche bun on the full size burger is preferable to the ciabatta they use on the mini, but if you ask politely, they'll usually switch the bun for you, in case you don't want the extra few ounces of beef.

It's a fairly small space and it's crowded most of the time, so I recommend two to four people per party max, and be prepared to wait.

They do offer delivery but somehow it never packs the flavorful punch of ordering at the counter.

This is my favorite burger in the city so far, and I can't imagine anything coming close.

I came here as part of a sociological investigation of Williamsburg hipsters, and to eat a burger.  Dumont Burger did not disappoint on either count.

Our server was wearing an army-green jumpsuit - not a fashiony version of a jumpsuit, more like what a mechanic wears.  With short white boots.  It looked insane.  The clientele was a pleasant mixture of people, even a couple of people over 40.

The mini burger (which is definitely big enough, what with all the delicious fries) was really good, but not mindblowing.  The mac & cheese did blow my mind.  It had huge chunks of bacon!  fuck yeah.

I was in town, apartment hunting.

That...was less fun than I assumed it wouldn't be.

So, in the middle of my over-stuffed morning, I was wandering S. Bedford, when I stumbled across Dumont Burger.

The sign out front advertised Corn on the Cob with Cotija Cheese Mayo and Chilis...

"That's an Elote for God's sake!  I'm going!"

I was the only person...I sat outside...it was straight up noon.

I'm assuming the locals ( read:hipsters ) weren't awake yet...much to my delight.

I left my skinny-girl jeans at home.

Anyway, the waitress was nice...even if I could tell they were hoping I wouldn't come over and sit down...

I had the Corn, which was delicious ( although, the Elotes you can get at any vendor in Chicago are not only better, but about 3 dollars cheaper ), the pulled pork sandwich ( which was also good, but not great ), and the fries...oh the fries.  I'd enjoy the shit out of those fries right now if I could...but I can't...'cause I don't live in the city...yet.

Anyway, it's good enough when you want to sit outside in the middle of the day...but Dog help you if you go when it's crowded...'cause I could see where the seating would make one homicidal.

See you soon New York...Permanently!

i heard so many good things about DuMont's burger but i was SOOOO disappointed with the burger i had there. A medium-rare burger shouldn't come well done!!! The service was mediocre and the music they played was loud, bad and distracting (in a boring falling asleep kind of way).  When i came home, i told my roommates about my experience and they all said the same thing - DuMont has gone DOWNHILL in the last year! Since they are food fanatics, i believe them. i will never go there for another burger again. Diner & Pies'n'Thighs are still the best burgers around

I thought their burgers were bland, flavorless, and too thick.

Their fries were great and stayed crisp even though delivered, which is always a plus. But for a $14 hamburger I need something more fabulous.

I would not recommentd this place, and I don't plan on going back.

Some of the best burgers around. As good as they are... the Mac and Cheese is obscenely good. It's ALL about the top layer thats just toasted enough to be selfish if you're sharing this with someone. At that point all rules go out the window.

Aside from that, the place is a little cramped, not a first date place, but still fun if your companion is chill. Oh, and the sodas are small as i remember.

Since moving to New York I have noted the presence of a hell of a lot of delivery men on bicycles.  Delivery men in Brooklyn are what spotted mice are to the Royal Tennebaums.  They don't serve any real purpose; they're just always around.

Well, that was before I experienced the joys of having a cheeseburger delivered to my door!  Oh sure, I've had delivered pizza and Chinese, but this was so decadent.  I was having one of my 'girl' cravings and it was effin cold outside.  The reviews were all spot on the burger and fries rocked.

And I now acknowledge that those delivery guys have a purpose after all, and it is a divine one indeed.

the burger with blue cheese is pretty good. Not too fancy, nice atmosphere, can be cold if you sit outside in winter bc the heat lamps do very little to compensate, but the food is decent.

the mac n cheese is eh. can find better elsewhere i'm sure.

Alright, I just can't get enough DuMont in my life!  DuMont Burger is a great little spot that offers a couple must-haves from its restaurant counterpart: the namesake burger and the DuMac & Cheese. Oh yes.

It's not often I am willing to put down 12 bones for a burger, but here, I would gladly do so. And I don't even eat cheeseburgers! They are just that great. I know they're that good because numerous friends have said so: one likened them to the kind you barbecue at home on the grill.

Nah, I'm usually the one having a veggie burger and yep, DuMont does it right. I was a bit wary of ordering something called a "Chickpea Burger." I go out of my way to avoid grubbing on those mixed bean and vegetable patties other places consider "veggie burgers." A desire for meat alternatives does NOT mean a desire for veggie hodge-podge!! But I digress. Once I took that first bite of my delicious chickpea sensation, all those fears quickly melted away. The chickpea burger, with its Greek flavor style, is like nothing I've ever had before. I highly recommend trying it out, whether you're into veggie burgers or just want to try something different.

Downside: there is a bit of a cool draft that you may or may not have to endure throughout your meal, depending on where you sit. I am guessing that your safest bets are the seats against the wall (with your back to the bar) or at the bar itself. Meaning, not near the bathroom or the front entrance.

Oh and I can't say it enough... do yourself a favor and order the DuMac & Cheese. Or better yet, split it with a friend!

I really wanted to love this place, but I couldn't.  The food is over-hyped, and the accommodations were atrociously small.  We went on a Saturday night, and I was really annoyed at having a slew of hipsters and non-hipsters alike glaring at us to finish quickly while we were trying to enjoy our food.  I thought I left these closet-sized places behind when I left Manhattan, but oh well.

I got the mini-burger with greens and was less than impressed.  My friend got the burger with fries, and his burger was the same size as my mini-burger!  I would have given them 1 star except for the fact that they actually cooked my medium rare burger properly.  The bread was too tough and chewy, and the lettuce was actually a little bit slimy.  The salad was drowned in too much dressing.  I'm not sure if it was an off night, but I couldn't believe how anyone could think this was good.  This is the only place where I've ever not finished a burger.

The service is very good.

I think I'll probably stick with Dumont in the future.  I can't hack eating in a high-stress, low-space environment...

Yum! While you may have to fight for a seat in this cozy space, it's worth the battle. The burgers are amazing. Get a 5oz. mini or the 8oz. DuMont burger, both will fill you up just fine. Sure it's a little more than I'd usually pay for a burger, but again, delicious.

Five stars for the perfect burger, two stars for the cramped dining space and hurry-hurry-hurry tactics of the waitress.

I am on quite the burger kick lately - my need for meat just cannot be satisfied!  When the L acted up last Saturday night and foiled our plans for going to a movie in the city, I suggested going here instead.  I'd been to Dumont (on Union Ave.) a few times and wanted to check out this location, expecting a lot of the same.

I was wrong.  The space is tiny and it was packed.  We were seated against the back wall pretty quickly, which was great, but then any time the door opened (which it did a lot - they were busy) gusts of cold wind blew directly at us.  It was seriously miserable; there's nothing I hate worse than a poorly designed restaurant causing you to shiver through your perfectly good meal.

The burger was cooked to perfection, and the fries were crispy, hot and delicious.  It's the standard I've come to expect from Dumont (and now Dumont Burger) and it has yet to disappoint me.

I was quite disappointed by our waitress, who all but abandoned us for our entire meal (neglecting refills of water or beer), only to give my boyfriend the evil eye when he asked if I wanted dessert as she handed us the check.  I did want to try their chocolate brownie, but since she so, um, thoughtfully brought us our check without asking if we'd like dessert, I decided to save my calories and money for dessert elsewhere.  Biggest pet peeve ever - I HATE when waiters/waitresses bring you your check without asking if you're finished.

Unless it's warm outside or not crowded inside, I think I'm better off sticking with Dumont on Union Ave.

Woah!!!!!!! I have been living around the corner for 7 months and just went the other day...They have the  B E S T burgers!!! I can't believe I waited so long to go, I can't wait to go back!  I had the mini burger (not so mini) on ciabattina bread and you can get fries, onion rings or salad. I got salad because I'm trying to be healthy but the onion rings looked delicious. It gets crowded and is hard to get a table sometimes though.

Don't be fooled by the takeaway section if you're walking up from Metropolitan and accidently eat there thinking it was DuMont Burger, I did.  Even if you do, the staff at the takeaway window are really cool and if the main restaurant is too busy to sit in you eat at the counter.

Problem with eating in the takeaway section is the longing looks of jealousy that the other patrons give you while they are waiting for their own burgers to take out.  Either way, the food makes it worth it.  Juicy meat and excelllllllent fries, even at $15/ burger.  Make the trip

The chickpea burger drives me into sensory overload.  I really can't put it any other way -- I have four Boca burgers in my freezer, but I may end up feeding them to the cat because Dumont is so close and so.  damn.  tempting.

EDIT:  I was recently re-introduced to their fries and they have only gotten better.  I hope to god they don't fry those suckers in any kind of meat fat, because I plan on eating them forever, my vegetarianism be damned...

Holy jesus.

I am something of a burger snob.  There are very few places that really can have amazing burgers in the correct environment -- and this is one of them.  Forget the fact that it has a typical Williamsburg darkly-lit-with-chalkboard aesthetic.  Forget that it's on Bedford.  Forget that it's one of those places that, having been around for a few years (before the "renaissance" really began in earnest), you would expect to have been good-for-the-time-but-not-really-that-worthy-now.  This place has amazing burgers and fries, and I would gladly travel wherever for one of these.  The beer selection is good, the burger selection is great, they really know what medium-rare means, they put parsley in the fries (!!!), and... well... It's not just great-for-brooklyn, but it's great overall.

i dont eat red meat, so i get the chickpea burger.  its a lot of burger, but its good.  The fish sammich is pretty gross though.  its like fried tilapia or something.  Tilapia isnt even a real fish.  So that kind of tastes like a McFish sammich from McDonalds.  The Salmon burger is good too.  So are the onion rings.  I think they just opened up some little take out room next door too which should help with the crowd.

I guess I'll have to be the dissenting voice here.  Granted, the food is top-notch.  The chickpea burger is my all-time favorite not-made-out-of-meat burger, and the standard burger is also quite delicious.  That said, I've been here several times, and only once (when I came alone and sat at the bar) did I not regret coming.  Except for that one time, the service has been indifferent at best and insulting at worst, and there are usually way more people than should ever be packed into that tiny space.

Go to DuMont Burger once to see what I mean, and after that just walk the extra 10 minutes and go to DuMont proper and get the burger or the mac n' cheese there instead.  You'll be glad you did.

Edit: Is it just me or are the burgers getting better and better?  Adding a star.

This rating goes out to my brother Sander, consistantly on the hunt for the best burger ever..

He's been DuMont's local since day 1.
(I just typed day !, by the way)

Personally, I'm a vegi, and last time I was there, there was no chickpea burger--usually i get their (quite rocking) fries and a glass o' wine..but next time I'm in the city..
