Yet another reason I LOVE going to Napa!
No wine tasting day is complete, without  a stop at Bouchon Bakery. Prices are kinda high and there is always a line, but oh so worth it. :o)

Bouchon Bakery is the best! Of course my eyes are way larger than my belly, but the restaurant is just so cute. And the pastries are so good. I totally forgot what I ordered, but I got an epi baguette, croissant, almond scone and something that reminds me of the Italian panettones during Easter. I really wanted to order a sandwich and latte and sit outside in the nice warm weather, but I had reservations at Ad Hoc...I can't wait to eat the rest of my goodies tonight!

As soon as I walked into Bouchon Bakery, it was like there was a gospel choir repeatedly singing, "Hallelujah" in my head.

Absolute heaven.

There were so many amazing pastries and bread, I didn't know where to start. There were brioches, fresh baked bread, tarts, raspberry chocolate croissants, almond croissants, eclairs... oh my! But with some helpful guidance from my date who knows me well, I chose the pistachio citrus brioche and pistachio macaroon. I love pistachio anything, and pistachio macaroons are one of my favorite things in the world. And the pistachio macaroon from Bouchon did not disappoint! In fact, it was the best tasting macaroon I had ever had. I was lamenting to my date that I didn't buy more than one! :( Next time I return, I plan on buying them out! The pistachio citrus brioche was also delicious, but the macaroon was still my favorite. The pistachio citrus brioche tasted very similar to a panettone with pistachio flavoring.
The prices here are a bit high, but it's totally worth it!
As my date and I sat on a bench out front of Bouchon Bakery enjoying our coffee and the gorgeous weather, we agreed it was the perfect way to start a full day of amazing food and wine.

WOW WOW WOW...is exactly what I said when I took one bite into a Hazelnut macaroon from Bouchon Bakery.  As soon as I took that bite, I was ready to go back in to purchase one of every flavor.  But the SO reasoned me to refrain from doing so because not only were we already devouring their refreshingly delicious passion fruit tart, but we were also sharing a TKO (aka "Thomas Keller Oreo").  Not to mention that their macaroons were $3 a pop!  Insanely expensive for a treat that could be eaten in 3 bites.  What I loved most about the macaroon was the chewiness.  I thought the hazelnut filling was fresh and creamy, but was way too sweet and had to be washed down with my iced latte.

Making a stop to Bouchon is the perfect break from wine tasting to refuel with sugar.  When it's nice out, it's so relaxing to find shade in their outdoor seating area, and just indulge in Thomas Keller's sweet creations.  I long for the day when I return to try all other macaroon flavors.

*GASP* 3 stars for a Thomas Keller establishment?!  I'm just so sorry!  And if the following review makes me sound at all full of myself or stuck up - I will accept full credit for sounding that way.

Important note: I am a baker.  A pretty hard core baker.  I've been baking since I was a child.  I make difficult things and take pride in having lots of successes.

So..... I've been on a French macaron baking streak lately.  It's a little out of hand actually.  My primary reason for going to Bouchon Bakery was to try Mr. Bad Ass Keller's take on the French macaron.  I was thrilled to finally eat some "professional" macarons!

But I was disappointed...

Bouchon's macarons were EXPENSIVE - that did not surprise me.  $3 for ~2.5" in diameter sandwich cookies.  That didn't seem horrible until I handed over a $20 for 5 cookies and a chocolat bouchon.  Yikes - $20 for cookies?  But I rationalized it by reminding myself that these were likely going to be the best macarons I'd ever eaten (having only tried Miette's quite a long time ago.)

But I was disappointed...

Chocolate, Caramel, Hazelnut, Vanilla and Pistachio.  The cookie was chewy like it should be - but dry.  Almost like they'd been sitting there for a while - but I'm really quite sure they hadn't been.  The flavor wasn't fantastic either.  The pistachio was the best, followed by vanilla, followed by hazelnut, then chocolate and then caramel.  But the only one I really liked was the pistachio.  And that's just based on flavor - the dry cookie was not a good thing.

I'd been prepping my friends for the fantastic macarons we were about to eat.  Even talked all of them into buying 1-2.

But they were disappointed...

And claimed they liked the flavor of mine better.  I realize they're my friends but I was still trying to tell them that these cookies should be a lot better than mine, as they insisted they were not.

A couple bite-fulls are still left in my fridge  - ready to toss out.  And I'm $20 poorer with just a few cookies to show for it.

So it's a rather sad thing because we drove out of our way to come up here from Napa.  And I'd been looking forward to these cookies since we'd planned our wine country trip.

But I was disappointed...

I was participating in a relay race this past weekend that spanned from Calistoga to Santa Cruz.  Somewhere around mile 24.7, while Katie was running her leg through Yountville, the rest of our van decided we needed coffee...BADLY!  As our van crept down the street cheering Katie on, we spotted a few spectators of our race with cups of coffee.  As we rolled by, I yelled out of the window, 'Hey, where'd you get that coffee?'  They let us know it was just around the corner, so off we went! (Sorry Katie, you missed out;)

Bouchon Bakery is a very cute little bakery nestled into Washington St. in Yountville.  There were lots of trees & an outdoor seating area.  It is owned by Thomas Keller, so you know there are going to be some delectable goodies in there!

So, 5 of us runner-types run into this teeny little place that was already packed with the locals to order some coffee so we could get a caffeine jolt before our next legs!  We were stopped dead in our tracks by the aroma of fresh baked rolls, croissants & other assorted pastries!  Oh my gawd, how dangerous for us!  Everything was so well displayed in the cases just begging to be eaten...Oh man, this is going to be bad.  I get to the clerk, I order my staple, small soy latte w/an extra shot & a SCRUMPTOUS looking pistachio macaroon (Hey, I deserve it, I was about to run my arse off with little to no sleep).  I AM so happy that I bought that little piece of heaven, it was so delicious!  I do LOVE macaroons, and a pistachio one at that?!  Man, it was the best!  The macaroon was more expensive than the coffee, but it was worth it.

What wasn't worth it was how long I had to wait for my drink.  It took these people, 15 minutes to produce my small soy latte, which I think is just unacceptable.  The baristas made about 14 other drinks before they thought it was time to pull the soy out from the fridge.  That was the most disappointing part.  I was getting a little irritable (I did have to be up 3am to get to the start line of the race), so I just kept asking about it.  They kept saying, oh, it's coming up...they LIE!  Finally, I get my drink, but now have to run FAST back to the van because we wasted too much time here.

Maybe if I had more time to sit and enjoy everything this wouldn't have bothered me so much, alas, I did not.  I would visit here again, but I would make sure I didn't have a race to run the same day!  BUY A MACAROON, they have all sorts of flavors, mmmmmmmmmm!

Love it!  Always great!  Very consistent.  I am not a cake and dessert fan, I prefer some of their breakfast items (BEST QUICHE!) - but I can't resist any sweets from Bouchon Bakery.  Be advised - Saturdays is so busy the line is out to the street (but its a small place).  Why it doesnt get 5 stars - the employees can be a bit abrasive, especially if they suspec that you are not a local :-(

I wish this place was a secret, but unfortunately it is not.  Great coffee, and if the husband agrees we must be on to something.  Pastries are heavenly and I can feel them going straight to my thighs, yum!
Staff can be a little cold, but they are usually very busy!

Sunday morning with the New York TImes, Bouchon coffee & pastries, and an outdoor table was about as good as it gets.  Wish I could do it every Sunday although I would be much fatter.  Chocolate croissant was memorable.  But order all possible pastries.

Small in size, but not lacking in variety or taste.

Great place to come for dessert after having a meal at any of the great restaurants on this street. They have a few tables outside if you have time to enjoy your pastries while basking in the sun.

If you are in the area, follow my instructions from my Ranch Market Too review. I'm sure you'll love every minute!!

I thought that I was back in Paris when I bit into my pain au chocolate from Bouchon Bakery...  It was flaky and buttery and had just enough chocolate.  I also had the raspberry cheese danish and that was sooooo good.  The cheese was rich and the pastry almost melted in my mouth.  The line was long and it was a little pricey but it was worth it to bring back memories of Paris.

Everything at Bouchon Bakery is SPECTACULAR- best I've ever had!  If you're a true fan of pastries, then it's a must for you to come here.  This was our first stop this past Easter Sunday in Napa Valley with the fam.  It's best to arrive here early (they open around 7:30 AM) - we stepped in around 10:15 and they were already running low on some items.  There are some benches outside so it's nice to soak up some sun while enjoying your food!

This was my second trip here so I managed to control myself a little bit more (Alan and I spent $45 here the last time =0 ).

Cheese Danish - I'm a huge fan of these, and this by far, was the best I've ever had!  The cheese was perfect and the crust was so nice and flaky.  The ones from local bakeries don't even come close in comparison.  Too bad there was only 1 left or else I would have purchased their entire stock!

Raisin Croissant (Pain Au Raisin) - I picked this one because they had just made a fresh batch.  Again, it was excellent!  It was in a figure-8 shape and was really the best croissant, ever!

Citrus Pistachio Brioche - This one seemed interesting and unique so I picked it for my brother.  We shared our pastries and loved this one after the first bite.  The top was had a nice crisp and wonderful flavors.

Other highly recommened items:  Lemon tart, macron, eclairs, bouchons, and donuts (when they're available).

My only disappointment was that they didn't have any donuts - boo!  They're doing some remodeling in the main kitchen so the equipment to make them weren't available.

So, Mr. Keller, when are you opening a location in Fremont???  - you're a pastry GOD!  =)

What a great way to end a day of wine tasting!!  We got some baked goodies before we hit the road.  LOVE the vanilla macaron (not your average coconut bleah from the local bakery), raspberry cheese danish and the coffee eclair.  If this is what pastries are supposed to taste like, it will be hard to go back to eating the pastries from the local cafe!  FYI, the place is tiny, so be patient as people try to figure out what they want...believe me, it's hard to just choose one!

You know, I was soo not inclined to like this place.  My sister was all blah blah blah, best cookies ever, blah blah blah, mouth orgasm and I was doubtful.  I am not really a cookie kind of girl, nor do I make the famous trek to Tartine on the weekends like all other missionites, so I thought that I would be able to resist even the sweetest looking cookie.

OK so I will admit defeat.  There is a cookie here, yes that damn cookie, I couldn't get away from it.  How many did I eat this weekend? Well I can't tell you because I would die of shame.  I would die and my pants would get even tighter the moment I transferred my admission to the web, swear to God, my pants are psychic like that.  Anyway, I believe it's called a TKO and it's like a big ass orea.  The chocolate cookie exterior hides a decoratively placed butter cream frosting that melts in your mouth.

My sister knew all about the TKO's.  She purchased one within moments of our being in Yountville and she offered me a bite of hers.  I ALMOST passed it up, as I am not a cookie girl (please note), however, one bite and I was taken, gone sold.  I am a total TKO addict.  Thank Gawd Bouchon is outside of the permissible zone for pms foraging.

This is a perfect French bakery ... the selection is what you would expect from Thomas Keller and his team.

Delightful to all the senses.

Yesterday we stopped here on our way to have lunch at the French Laundry. I thought it would be great to pick up a dozen treats to bring to work tomorrow. (I knew I would not have any leftovers from lunch to share).

I asked the person helping me to select things that would still be good in the morning.

She picked out an amazing selection and boxed it up to go. The sticky buns smelled so good like they just came out of the oven. Yummy! I had to resist picking at the treats so I would not ruin my appetite for the glorious meal ahead.

One of the things I like the best about visiting Bouchon .... is seeing all  of the people outside enjoying their delectables. There were a crowd of bikers taking a break and feasting on croissants and muffins while enjoying their coffee.

They were very happy!

So, when we went the the French Laundry last week, we decided to stop by Bouchon on the way.  We bought a croissant and a brioche and saved them for the next day.

Now, it should be noted... We eat a decent amount of pastries.  Not your standard fare, we like to eat at La Farrine, La boulange - the best of the best.  Bouchon stepped it up a notch.

Both of the breads we had were AMAZING.  Really, Really excellent.  If you're driving to the wine country - make the stop and pick up some great goodies!

It seems like Thomas Keller owns the whole damn block: French Laundry, Bouchon, and Ad Hoc. This cute little bakery is no exception to his takeover. *Daydreaming about living on this street, but brought back to reality imaging what I'd look like* If you like brownies, the bouchon's are not only yummy, but are super cute- so cute you just wanna take a big bite out of it. My bf got the macaroon and thought it was just so-so (if you're in L.A., they have great macaroons at Boule). The famous oreo cookie was pretty good, but didn't really taste like a oreo. The nutter butter was freaking good, though! Make your mother proud and get it! P.S. no bathrooms here, but the portable potties outside are as fancy as portable potties can get and even have baby wipes and picture frames! Whoooooo~

Bouchon Bakery is a very magical place. It sits next to Thomas Keller's Bouchon in Yountville, CA.  As you walk to the bakery you see beautiful landscaping, and a very relaxing courtyard. Bouchon Bakery is a small spot. Just enough room to get 5 or 6 people inside. Once you smell the aromas and you look at how stunning all the baked goods are you forget how small the bakery is.  I love the sandwiches. I always get the tuna. If you are in Napa Valley and just want a chill lunch, stop in to Bouchon Bakery. You might even see Reese W and Jake G eating lunch.

We stayed at the nearby Petit Logis so the logical thing to do every morning was to walk a few steps and get coffee and breakfast treats at Bouchon Bakery.  Really good:  pistachio citrus brioche (my favorite of the stuff we tried) and almond chocolate croissant.  Decent: blueberry muffin and sticky buns (w/ pecans).  The goods are all wonderfully substantial in butter and sugar, as they should be.

The place gives off a holy grail vibe, especially with tourists/supplicants at 7:30 am snapping photos and speaking in hushed tones of Thomas Keller's prowess.  Cheese danish, almond croissant, coffee, and soy latte were superlative.  That's saying a lot from me.   Since it was a bit too chilly for the outdoor patio with Sadie, we walked around the grounds of the mall and watched a hot air balloon take off from the parking lot.  BTW, you can get wi-fi sitting in your car, how cool is that?  A definite return visit is planned.

We stopped by this place after a hike at Archer Taylor Preserve. The chocolate-filled eclair is good, though I think the size is a teaser. Definitely get 2 for yourself. I wasn't too crazy about their signature Bouchons; they were practically like brownies, only with a harder texture. I wouldn't get them again. Their pistachio and vanilla macaroons are to die for though. I can probably eat 10 pieces (each) of these things. The nutter butter cookie was my boyfriend's favorite. I've never had a cookie like it before. Definitely get 10 for yourself!

They've got sandwiches and sweets here. It also seems like it could be a good place for a tourist to buy special sweets to take home as a gift, or eat on the plane.

The sandwiches were quite good, I guess they were somewhat worthy of the Napa Tax. The sweets had a heavy Napa tax....worth it? eh. I guess.

Gluttony is not so bad.

I think heaven would resemble Bouchon. Upon entering, I could hear trumpets and angels with stars shining over my head as I'm greeted by several beautiful display cases of delicate baked goods and desserts.  I had to take a step back because of the overwhelming joy and the decisions that I would soon need to make.  Thomas Keller sees little me and tells me to take a bite out of everything in front of me. Just kidding. But I am a huge fan of Thomas and his culinary skills.

Went on a Monday morning, so no crowd, no hassles, no tourists besides my friends and I. Took about 15 minutes before I meticulously made my choices. Of course I had to take a TKO, yes the overpriced oreo. BUT money is not a matter at Bouchon, since I probably will not be back for years. I then took an Almond Croissant for the plane ride home. The Caramel Macaroon was so rich and delicious. Then I sampled the Chocolate Croissant and the Citrus Brioche and ended up buying both. The Chocolate Croissant is just amazingly good. I took a bottle of Pinot Noir soda which still sits in my fridge as I'm waiting for that 'special night' to pop it open.

Sinful, yet so heavenly.

Pastries, sandwiches and coffees, OH MY.  All of it looks scrumptious and tastes scrumptious.

Do you love the pain epis that is served with your meal next door at the restaurant as much as I do?  Buy a pain epis baguette or a pain epis crown ($2.79) to take home and enjoy.

I indulged in a bag of shortbread cookies today.  A dozen cookies for $9.75.... Crumbly, flakey, sugary, buttery goodness.  That's what they are.

i realized that i have a couple of thomas keller's restaurants in vegas that i need to rate.

however, this cute little bakery in the middle of yountville, satisfied my cravings for sweets before dinner. upon entering the bakery, i looked at the pastries displayed and i didnt see the Thomas Keller Oreo (TKO). so i started to get a little nervous. i decided to just settle on a eclair and call it a day, but thankfully i asked if they had anymore TKO's left. he told me that there were some that just came out of the oven. imagine a warm oreo!!! the cookie was slightly warm and the insides were creamy and runny. wow. amazing. i still got the eclair and that was amazing as well. the only thing is that it is a little pricey for what you get.

I love the storefront! The almond croissant was delicious. It wasn't as good as Tartine's (I think it's about half the size of Tartine's), but it tasted above average. The TKO is overrated. I was excited that they carried French macarons, but the chocolate and caramel macarons I had were stale! I'd rather go to Miette's in SF for my macaron fix. All in all, love the location and ambiance. Food is so so.

Yountville rocks in my book...Among the many culinary gems densely packed in the Napa Valley, Bouchon Bakery still manages to outshine the competition.  If you're like me, breakfast is the perfect time to roll up here.  There are baked goods aplenty here...All of them offering nothing but ooey-gooey, sugary-sweet perfection!  From the sweet buns to the cookies to the trademark "bouchon"...everything's all good here...trust me on this one!

Since I am not in the income bracket that can eat at French Laundry, I settled for a few pastries from Bouchon. The results were hit or miss.

First off, get there early or expect to wait. We came around 1 and waited in line outside the door for about 10 minutes. A few of the items were already sold out, though I heard a few people in line say they had called ahead to reserve certain items, so if there is something you know you want, you can do that. We managed to snag one of the last tables in the small courtyard to enjoy our soup and treats.

I had the soup of the day, which was a butternut squash. It was divine and one of the best butternut squash soups I have ever had. I don't even want to think about how much cream was probably in it; it was so rich.

My husband had a chocolate eclair which was okay. I didn't really like that it was cold inside, but the flavor was excellent. I had a pain chocolate (croissant with chocolate chips) which was a bit to flaky for my taste. Every bite sent a shower of pastry flakes into my lap.

We also ordered 6 macaroons that we nibbled on over the next few days (the traditional french kind, not the coconut kind. if you've never had one, you must try). They were fantastic!

The 6 cookies, soup, eclair, and pastry came out to $35. Bouchon is not cheap, but I feel like it is one of those places you must stop when in town. It's a great place to grab a sandwich for a day of wine tasting, or to indulge your sweet tooth with some delectable treats!

Since we didn't have dessert at Bistro Jeanty so we decided to indulge in so sweets at Bouchon Bakery.

The TKO is a gourmet oreo cookie. The outside cookie is a rich and flavorful chocolate and the inside is a sweet white chocolate ganache.. holy!!! soooo gooood

We couldn't leave without a to go order in case we needed a Bouchon fix on our way to Calistoga or back home. We ordered three macarons- a french pastry filed with rich buttercream. The outside is light and crispy and the inside is soft and chewy. They came in pistachio, chocolate and mocha.. flavors change with the season.

AND it doesn't stop there.. they have gourmet fois gras dog bisquits - Frankie loved it.. I think this is now his favorite place.

I've been a boxing fan all my life.  I watched my first fight from a grainy, black and white Sony 13-inch with my Dad--the Sugar Ray Leonard/Roberto Duran rematch of November, 1980.  Duran had defeated Leonard only months before in a unanimous but close decision and the bitter rivalry made for a much anticipated rematch.  I was only 8 at the time so my recall of the bout is based largely on my Dad's retelling of a story that has now found itself in the annals of boxing lore.  In the 7th round, Leonard started taunting Duran.  One round later, Duran simply turned around, raised his glove and walked to his corner giving up.  The fight was ruled a TKO in the 8th round in favor of the avenged Leonard.  Duran returned to his native Panama, defeated and an embarrassment to his countrymen.

My entire life, I've known TKO to be the abbreviation of 'technical knockout'.  Until today.  Starting today, TKO will now be known as the Thomas Keller Oreo.

The TKO is not the embossed crunchy cookie you knew as a kid and split in half to lick the creamy center.  The Bouchon version is a sandwich of rich Valrhona chocolate wafers with a creamy filling of white chocolate ganache.  I imagine it's an Oreo you'd snack on while you're picnicking with God in the Garden of Eden.  But since I'm agnostic, I imagine it to be the Oreo I'd munch on whilst in the presence of culinary god, Thomas Keller.

The lines were out the door despite the foul and typically inclement North Bay weather.  The prices were exorbitantly high--but ask me if I remember what I paid for a TKO, two macarons (one chocolate, one pistachio--both excellent) and a coffee eclair--and I couldn't tell you.  I handed over some bills, she gave me change but the exact amount  is a blur.  The flavors were much more memorable--the TKO was rich and buttery; the macarons had just enough give when you bit into it--airy, light and crunchy at the same time; the coffee eclair was almost too sweet but the earthy, full-bodied coffee essence cut the sweetness.

I'll be back for sure and hand over my money with no questions asked.

I had heard the hype going into Bouchon Bakery, and it surpassed all of my expectations and more!

The almond croissant was amazing- the perfect amount of salty and sweet.

And don't even get me started on the salmon rillette! It is the perfect picnic snack, along with one of the most amazing baguettes of my life.

Definitely worth the trip, not to mention the fact that this is a creation of the all-talented Chef Keller, some claim to be the best chef in the world!

If you're touring the wine country and want to indulge your sweet tooth, I recommend Bouchon Bakery. Their macaroons are perfect! I've only tried the hazelnut and pistachio so far, but they are delectably chewy. At $3 a piece, they may seem a tad bit on the pricey side, but they're worth it. Plus, they're a pretty good size. Also had their chocolate filled donut (or was it an eclair?) with a crunchy chocolate topping. It was pretty tasty, not too sweet. Yum! Can't wait to go back and try more macaroons. Maybe in a couple of months.

Yuuuuuuuum.  Great place for a snack after a day of wine tasting.  Yesterday we grabbed some toasted baguette sandwiches to tide us over until out late dinner reservations.  Mine was turkey and goat cheese and was soooo good.  We also split a chocolate eclair.  My husband declared that it "wasn't right" that an eclair be filled with chocolate custard, and then proceeded to eat more than his half...

Bouchon Bakery would also be a good place to pick up sandwiches to eat at a winery.

There is some outside seating which would be a good place to eat with a dog in tow.  It looks like they're building a back patio - not sure if dogs will be allowed there or not.

We bought 10 Macaron (5 flavors) but so far I've only got to try 2 (the pastacio and the hazelnut).  The hazlenut was nutty and earthy (a good thing).   The pastacio was light and fresh.   We also had a rasin twist, it was crunchy, sweet and juicy (from the rasins).  The lemon tart was acidic, very good if you like tart food.  We still have the other Macaroons (chocolate, vanilla, carmel), the crossant and the baggette to try tonight.  Will update.

After our hearty dinner at Ad Hoc, we stopped by at Bouchon for munchies.  I walked out with a lemon macaroon and a chocolate chip cookie.

The lemon macaroon is extremely superior to the one I had at Jin Patisserie.  Leave it to Thomas Keller to change my mind about French macaroons.  It was fairly sweet but the texture was excellent.

The cookie was a little harder than I would have liked but it was still enjoyable.  But, it wasn't an exceptional cookie either.
