Best BBQ I've had in lower Manhattan. I took my father who has been known to import BBQ from TX to CA and he very much enjoyed. The shared dining exp is fun and the portions HUGE. I am a fan of the sweet tea in a Mason Jar because they actually add fresh mint. The St Louise BBQ was delish. I'd for sure order cornbread and coleslaw. This spot is a bit off the beaten path. I'd recommend a cab from the subway.
Personally, this is THE best barb-q in Manhattan that I've been to. Full disclosure - I've yet to go to Dinasour which I also hear is good. Yes, it doesn't compare to the amazing bbq I had down in Texas @ Salt Lick, but what can. Some of my favorites @ Daisy May's are the pulled pork sandwich, the st. louis ribs, and the mac and cheese. I've also been there with work where we ordered the full pig. While it was an entertaining experience, I wasn't a big fan of the meat off the pig. A bit TOO fatty for my taste.
Daisy May's also has a cart in midtown which is great for grabbing lunch, but everytime I've walked past it, there's been a ridiculous line. I also hear they deliver to anywhere in Manhattan.
Go to Daisy May's and bring an appetite and prepare to get messy.
I don't know why this would come as a surprise to some people, but I have (had) never had BBQ ribs. Hello! I am a lady. I don't just get BBQ sauce all over my hands like some type of weirdo! How do you manage that, anyway? Do you only eat BBQ ribs with one hand? Do you keep a pack of wet naps next to you? Gross.
So my BBQ loving friend found out I hadn't eaten BBQ ribs before and freaked the fuck out. That's how I ended up here. I tried them and yes they were good but it was too much effort. Plus, I can't get past the fact that it's GROSS. So what's up with the 3 stars? Well, this place is not fancy, like at all. And, uhm, they only sell BOTTLES of wine. And each BOTTLE of wine is over $50. At a BBQ joint? Are you serious? So I can buy cheap bottles of no-name beer but I can't buy a glass of wine? Only a $50+ bottle of wine? WHATEVER!

If you're into BBQ, don't make a special trip here expecting anything special. Maybe if you were walking by this place it might hit the spot... but I'd never get in a cab or take a subway ride here.
I had the ribs and corn. My brother had pulled pork. We've both been to BBQ championships and have a smoker that we setup in the summer. If you know anything about BBQ and are from the South, do not go here expecting something similar.

Yeah. I made the mistake of having my bday dinner here. Wasn't impressed with the pulled pork at all. The sides were good, oh, and the beef ribs were pretty good. Thats about it. They have their version of southern sweet tea, but it should be called diabetes tea.
lack of service.
I'm feeling generous with the 3 stars. Since I banished the 2 star rating I didn't have the heart to give the place one star. Daisy May doesn't suck. But, it's not particularly very good either. Not much stands out. If you're talking BBQ and the only good thing worth mentioning are the sides -- you're hosed. Given the great BBQ influx in the city - I can't justify going here over Hill Country, RUB, etc. If you happen to be on Daisy May's block and have a huge BBQ craving and can't make it 15 blocks south to the fertile crescent of NY BBQ -- then walk into Daisy May's -- otherwise, head south!

I was craving a quick snack, so I tried a bowl of their Texas Chili. This is mild on the hotness scale, but it's full of spices. It's a very flavorful chili, a bit too flavorful for my palate (maybe it's just not the right flavor for me). This chili may go down better with a side of rice. As it is, I had a difficult time finishing this chili because the spices were so strong. On a brighter note, this chili had huge chunks of beef. However, they must have cut the beef from one of the leanest parts of the cow.

Baked Beans with Burnt Ends:
This is one of my favorite sides. The beans are very good, the sauce was amazing, but what really sets this apart is the burnt ends. The burnt ends are a nice combo of moist and lean pieces. The dish itself is incredible.
Sweet & Sticky Pork Ribs:
The ribs are medium moist with a fair amount of meat on the bones. As far as a smoked flavor goes, I thought the ribs were lacking.
Rustic Creamy Corn with New York State Cheddar:
I like creamy corn, and this was a very good variation. I left no corn standing in the wake of my hunger. I'd love to make this dish at home sometime. Only, difference with my variation is, I'd try some different cheese options. The cheddar was nice, but I'm sure there can be a better pairing.

Average experience.
We bought our food from the counter and brought it to the seating area, which is separate from the area where you order. The seating area was very picnic like, with long wooden benches and bright lighting. This is a very casual place which would be great for a low-key dinner with a few friends but it is also a great place for big parties with co-workers.
The sticky ribs were slightly sweet and quite tender but I really wish they were served up warmer. The coldness of the meat made me think the ribs have been sitting around for a while.
The beef brisket was very nicely smokey but wasn't exactly superbly tender.
The chili was excellent. It had no beans and was very complex and rich, with tender chunks of beef. They serve that up with a flour tortilla and you can also request for a square of corn bread, which would be serevd warm.
Most of the platters come with a choice of two side dishes. The creamed corn and sweet potato sides are my favorites. The mashed potato with gravy is also pretty good.
i noticed that they had special large platters for big groups of people, like a whole roasted pig enough to feed 8. That would definitely be a fun thing to do for a group.
Overall, I think it's an average place for BBQ. The relaxed atmosphere, pleasant service and chili are the best parts.

I am a Southerner, and this is not Southern. I have also lived in NY for a long time and can tell you this is not good food by Southern or Northern standards. Authentic Southern food is difficult to come by in the city, but there are incredible BBQ restaurants here nonetheless.
I had never been tempted to set foot in this restaurant after seeing their asinine commercials, but my husband dragged me in after reading some very positive reviews on the food. Ends up that you order at the counter then take a tray to family-style, shared tables. The ordering counter is like your average school cafeteria set up. The food is already prepared and sitting behind the glass. A worker slops spoonfuls of whatever you order into plastic to-go containers (even if you are staying) and gives you paper plates and your plastic utensil packs. A spoon would have been nice to move the corn and beans, etc. from the bowl to our plates. So let's talk about the food. My husband had the ribs and they were "just ok". The pulled pork was tender, but strung out with sauce rubbed through, wet, and not nearly as flavorful as good BBQ is. I was surprised to find no BBQ sauce of any kind on the tables or on the side. They just saturated the meat with some and it came out wet and bland. A few of things that I personally didn't like were that the creamed-style corn was made with cheese, the coleslaw was made with mustard, and the cornbread was like mushy cake. I realize that these are personal preferences and I'm biased being raised on Southern food. So keeping an open mind, I refer to my husband (a Brit who adores BBQ). He didn't like it either. The corn had a pretty good flavor but the kernels were unnaturally large and it was chewy- in other words -not fresh cut from the cobb. So what was good? The mashed potatoes and white gravy were ok. The baked beans were beans. The meats were ok if you don't compare them to real, good, BBQ where you have the smoky depths and flavors. The iced tea was my husband's favorite thing. They give you a quart in a mason jar (to seem Southern? I suppose) and it has enough sugar in it to please anyone. It was probably the sweetest sweet tea I've had, but the flavor was good, too.
In the mood for BBQ? Go somewhere else. We spent about 40$ here just to get 2 plates with 2 sides each and 2 drinks. You can get a much more satisfying meal, and dining experience, at the other joints in town for the same price. Seek out the REAL BBQ masters in the city and you won't be disappointed!

3.5 stars.
Made a reservation for a group of 8 for last Saturday and order the pork shoulder (aka pork butt) for groups and had a sample of their regular menu as well.
The beef brisket was the best item...so tasty and juicy. The pork shoulder was really good too. You can tell from the selection of sides that they try to class it up a bit with the ingredients they are using, but I would have preferred to have more down home typical sides. Where's the mac 'n' cheese or Brunswick stew?
There was another large party next to us who got the half pig and we were so glad we didn't do that. It's not that appealing looking when it's just half and the pig was super small. The pork butt is the way to go if you are going with a group.
Their reservation requirements and rules are pretty stringent because there is a set menu for groups and they may still charge if you change your headcount late. The pork butt for 6 can really feed 10 but you still get billed a fixed price per person above 6. But, the staff was friendly and worked with me even when I had some people cancel last minute.
Sides and serving sizes could be more customer friendly. Very good BBQ - they serve a niche and do it well.
Like a previous reviewer said, the beer selection is severely limited but the food more than makes up for it. The dry rub ribs were good, not too dry, not too juicy and easily coming off the bone. For my sides, I got the beans and mashed potatoes. Both were great, especially the beans. I've heard the lamb is amazing so I'll have to come back to try that sometime.

Holy Jesus did I ever pig out here.
Seriously delicious.
We ordered a big pile of pork, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cole slaw. Really awesome, couldn't stop eating. It hurt.
Table next to us ordered a whole pig which looked like a whole lot of fun. Never seen so many with cameras at a dinner table, but I probably would have taken some strange photo involving a pig snout also.
Only criticism is that I'd like a larger beer selection. But then again I say that about every place I go.

Too expensive and too unhealthy to have more than once a week, but it definitely fills that emptiness in my stomach and satisfies my urge.
He doesnt even use hardwoods to smoke the meat!! I dont trust New Yorkers with BBQ...like I wouldnt trust Bobby Flay doing southwestern cuisine....
I have only taken out from here, but was pretty impressed with the pulled pork and other sides. I've had a fair amount of bar-be-que in the south and while I am by no means a connoisseur of the food, I think that I have enough experience to say that Daisy May's holds its own.

Located a long haul west of civilization, Daisy May's sign is like a dimly lit beacon when you finally get there. Great toothsome dry rubbed ribs and finely sauced roast chicken, both touched with pink from the smoking process. With so many sides, it is hard to choose - bourbon peaches, cheesy corn pudding, baked beans, creamy mashed, sweet potatoes, creamed spinach. Would love to try the fried chicken, but they are always out.
The minty sweet tea comes in a quart sized mason jar that is yours to keep!
The atmosphere is usually loud and bright, and scoring a seat may be very difficult if there is a group commandeering one or two of the long tables. So, to save yourself the trouble of getting there starved and finding no place to enjoy the containers of BBQ you just ordered, call ahead.
Daisy May's seems to be the easiest way to experience Adam Perry Lang's genius, since barbecue contests are far away and Robert's Steakhouse is prohibitively expensive.
The meat at Daisy May's is stellar. The two types of ribs are very juicy and tender (although not completely fall-off-the-bone soft, with a meatier, less "braised" texture.) The Memphis Dry Rub ribs are spicy, but the dry rub lets the taste of the meat come through very distinctly. The Kansas City Sweet & Sticky are sauced, so the taste of the sauce blends with the taste of the meat - the ribs themselves don't come through as strongly, but the sweetness of the sauce is different from the spices on the Memphis ribs. I once got ribs that were dry and seemed very off from the usual. However, that was once out of about 10 visits.
The Oklahoma Beef Rib is a huge, whole (or half, or whatever, not a butcher myself unfortunately) delicious, tender, beefy short rib. Short Ribs are a delicious piece of meat, and the seasoning is great.
The chicken is less delicious than the other things, but that might well be a function of the fact that half of a half-chicken is white meat, and white meat is intrinsically less tender and flavorful than spare ribs and short ribs. It's still yummy.
I tried the lamb chops that they have, on one occasion. They were really great, smoked very subtly, and seasoned well too, but it's hard to remember the specifics because it was only once.
The sides are nice, but nothing too memorable for the most part. The bourbon peaches are delicious. The creamed spinach and sweet potatoes are solid. The beans and mashed potatoes are kinda generic, but still taste good. The rice and beans dish is very dry.
Five stars because it is possible to get a meal that is just incredibly delicious - one can just ignore the worse stuff and have a meal no less complete. The far away location is annoying, the seating can get crowded, and the commercial is hideous. But those don't affect the food.

This is, in my experience, the best of the New York City barbecue spots. And I speak from experience, as a Southerner. We order here from work sometimes as a special lunchtime treat. Yum! Though the delivery takes forever - it's not a quick meal by any means.
Everything I have had here has been good. Everything. Even now that I'm pretty much a vegetarian, I will happily give in to my more carnivorous dudely coworkers and just order a some sides. Making up a plate piled with creamed corn and spinach, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, baked beans, etc. etc. is like Sunday lunch at grammaw's, except, like, in the middle of Manhattan.
I especially love the ginormous (and very authentically southern) sweet tea that comes in a mason jar.
The only caveat here is that vegans will probably find nothing on the menu worth eating, as even the vegetable sides are completely adulturated with cream, butter, etc. I myself have to ignore the instinct that tells me there is bacon fat in the greens. Also, it's not cheap.

the food truck on wall street is not a good interpretation at all of what this place is good for... go to the real place to experience that!
i went here a while back but what i remember the most was the whole pig was AWESOME... although a lil sore on the eyes for those not used to looking a whole pig ears head and all... anyway the server comes out and starts pulling the pieces off at it and it becomes a feast for all of us... very moist! too bad the skin is not edible like chinese style... (btw noticed that a lot of asians come here... maybe cuz we like the roast pig stuff in chinatown more and don't mind trotters and such)
i also remember the creamed spinach being really good too! came back a second time around and now it was the toast that was super good... buttery goodness... corn and cheese was nice and so were the mash potatoes...
this time had an extra order of pork shoulder which definitely had more flavor to it although the entire pig i still think was still more moist!
would come back again to try the ribs because i remember we took leftovers which were quickly eaten up by our friends 2 hours later so we never really got to try it!
service was great! guys always made sure we were ok with everything!
advice to mgmt... TURN ON THE AC!!!! when its 100 degrees outside!!!!

I don't necessarily like writing reviews for places with tons of reviews already, but I was a little disappointed in this place.
The location is kind of shady, which is already kind of docking a star, although if it were better, I wouldn't care about that. The set up is kind of strange. If you have food sitting on buffet tables for that long, you kind of compromise taste.
I decided on the pulled pork with coleslaw and beans. The pulled pork was alright, the sauce could have been a bit more flavorful. The coleslaw wasn't necessarily bad, but I prefer a creamier coleslaw. The beans were a little undercooked and everything just kind of looked like mush from sitting there.
I tried my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and I LOVED them. There was probably 100 sticks of butter and heavy cream; they were incredibly smooth and creamy, I'd get those again.
The three stars is really because of the sweet tea served in a mason jar, and the fact that you can keep the mason jar. (Although, they should be recycling the glass..) but the sweet tea was really good.
Ordered the tasting menu - approx. $30 per person and had it delivered to the office. Ordered 5 of these to feed 6 and it was way too much food! Everything was good. Great deal! Came with the following:
Sweet & sticky pork ribs
dry rub pork ribs
jumbo beef rib (not kidding when they say jumbo)
whiskey beer can style chicken
chopped beef brisket
pulled pork
corn bread
3 fixings - we chose cheddar corn, baked beans, and sweet potatoes
The winners - sweet & sticky ribs, jumbo beef rib, and the sides (deellisshh)!
pretty good - chicken, beef brisket, pulled pork, dry rub pork ribs
not good - cornbread
I'm not a meat eater and I had quite a bit of meat. Full of flavor.
All the food was still hot when it arrived and my coworkers really enjoyed it. I would order again from here.

I never been on this side of Manhattan, so going to 11th Ave for ribs was like pretty fun ^^ Anywayz, we got there & it was different, my ideal of southern restaurant. I had a hard time deciding which 2 side orders I wanted, but my other 4 friends got one of everything so we had 10 side orders. The peach bourbon, creamy cheese corn, mash potato is wild! The ribs did not stick to the bone, my half chicken was juiccyyyyy ^_^ Definitely a place where u can go with guy friends or when you're feeling for some "soul" :-}

After having tried their midtown cart many times, I finally got around to visiting the actual storefront on a strip of 11th avenue better known for selling cars than carne.
I was psyched to taste their ribs as those aren't available on the cart. I tried all three types: the jubmo Oklakoma beef rib which is extremely tender but is so imposing that it reminded me of the piece of meat that tipped over Fred Flinstone's car. I would recommend either the Memphis Dry Rub Ribs which had a nice spiced flavor to them or the Kansas City Sweet & Sticky ribs which were less messy than the name implies and had a nice but not overbearing amount of sweetness.
The Pulled Pork sandwich is very good (as it is on the cart). It's served on an oversized bun which helps ensure that the sandwich doesn't fall apart. The sweet tea is good and served in a mason jar (as it is on the cart). I didn't try the beef chili in the store but I assume it's as great as it is on the cart.
So then why am I giving the storefront 4 stars but the cart 5 stars. Well, it's nothing to do with the place itself. It's nothing fancy - just three long communal benches that are seat yourself and w/ no table service (you order and pickup at the register). It's BBQ - you come to expect those things...
The 4 star rating is basically b/c of the side dishes. They don't have any on the cart except the dirty rice and beans (which isn't that good) so the pulled pork and chili shine (and you've got to be happy w/ a cart if they have 2 great items...). But at a BBQ restaurant, I'm expecting great sides and there's were just ok. I found the Sweet Potato to be good but the unique flavoring (banana?) didn't work as well as, say, the bourboned treatment at Hill Country. The baked beans had a nice smoky sauce but were overloaded with 3 or 4 different types of beans. Just didn't work. The Bourbon Peaches were a nice surprise but no Mac & Cheese on the menu wasn't so nice a surprise...
It's also worth pointing out they don't sell alcohol here. It appears that BYOB is fine - hard to tell. Can't complain about that fact - just wish I knew before I went!
Prices aren't cheap but weren't too bad. The plate specials w/ either one of the three ribs choices or the chicken and two sides for ~$15 is the best value I suppose. The Pulled Pork sandwich is $9.50 and the Chili is $8.
So I'm giving 4.5 stars for the chili/ribs/pulled pork (ranked in that order) and subtracting .5 for the less than spectacular sides.

Daisy May's is a fairly surreal experience for this erstwhile Kentucky woman. For starters, it was a bit weird to find so many different styles of Southern food on the same menu, from Texas to Louisiana to South Carolina. News flash: Texas is over a thousand miles away from SC. It's as bizarre as it would be if you went to a restaurant that called itself "Asian" and it served Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, AND Thai food ... oh, wait.
Anyway, the meat is all executed really well. I had the Carolina style pulled pork sandwich, which was indeed tender, flavorful and properly sauced. Various kinds of beef and pork ribs were all praised by my dining companions.
The side items leave something to be desired, though. The mashed potatoes come with the wrong kind of gravy (it should be brown; the white "redeye" gravy is meant to go on biscuits). The baked beans are, inexplicably, a mixture of black, pinto and kidney beans. Come on, guys, just because all those types of beans are eaten somewhere in the South, that doesn't mean you can mix 'em all together and get Southern baked beans. They also came in a weird, bland yet spicy sauce, where it ought to have been savory and sweet. And why why why no mac and cheese? I did like the bourbon peaches, which were sweet and firm. The sweet potatoes were also good; they seem to have banana in them, which is tasty though not particularly authentic.
A mason jar of sweet tea is $4. It tastes good, but is way too sweet even for the South; I kept expecting it to crystallize.
It's cheap by New York standards, but if you tried to charge $9.50 for a pulled pork sandwich PLUS $4.50 for baked beans, you'd be laughed right out of the South. Y'all try cutting those prices in half.

We just got everything practically. Chicken, bbq pork sandwich, all different kinds of ribs.
Sides that were good were creamy cole slaw, sweet potatoes and creamy spinach. The cornbread was just ok.
This is cafeteria style but that is what made it just so fun. Not sure I'd be back but it was enjoyable and was on my list forever since it's such a highly regarded bbq place.

If this is the place to be in Manhattan for BBQ and Southern comfort than I am disappointed. Decided to order delivery from here and got my food within 40 minutes and was let down the moment I took sunk my teeth into the chicken breast I ordered for my group and I. The jambalaya, ribs, and cornbread were dry, almost stale. The one good thing that I would consider ordering again is the cheese laced corn, which may spawn an instant heart attack from the calories, but what a good way to go out it would be! Food was a bit on the spendier side, which only helped me realize that this was not worth the trouble.

I have to preface this with the fact that I got my food delivered, so perhaps it's better eating at the restaurant.
I didn't think the KC ribs were anything beyond average - I've had much better. They don't fall off the bone, they weren't juicy and there wasn't enough sauce. The creamy corn is not bad, the corn bread is average.
Overall, I just think this place is not worth the price. I've had better...
I do not like that this place is so tangible to me because it screams danger! I stumbled on it on my walk to the West Side Highway and couldn't get the smell of BBQ off my mind until guiltily running back to try it. I had the Memphis rubbed ribs platter, extra BBQ sauce on the side with cole slaw and beans. Devoured. The rub had almost too much rub on it, but the BBQ sauce was oh my my monstrously great.
I am looking forward to trying the sticky ribs too, ugh again I wish I never knew (For the good of me.... loving food way too much, it does stick to your ribs man) that this was so close... an added tip, they have an eat in BYOB area with a flat screen TV, ( Hellooo? BBQ Heaven!!) Why God, Why!!?!

There is a certain type of barbecue restaurant found throughout the South and Midwest, the hole in the wall, diamond in the rough joint with folding chairs, paper plates, a pit that took seven years to break in, and portions the size of your head for cheap. You'll find these outfits in unlikely places; the old gas station in a one horse town, the back of a honky tonk in Lorena, Texas, etc. Everyone that loves barbecue loves these places. Unfortunately there is another type of barbecue restaurant that pretends to be a hole in the wall, like Rudy's or Daisy May's.
The barbecue is excellent but the furnishings are intentionally kitschy, tables made from doors and cheap chairs look a little suspect when there are two 42" plasma screens hanging on the walls. The price is also not cheap, $12 gets you a brisket sandwich and a can of soda, $17 gets you ribs and two sides. This is the best barbeque I've had in NYC, and the sweet tea ($4 for a quart!) is mighty tasty, but overpriced. The beans are a little unusual; pinto, kidney and black beans combined. The spinach looks scary but is very good. The 'Texas-style' brisket is almost right, the sauce is a little too sweet and not quite spicy enough, but the meat is well smoked with smoke ring.

Daisy May's is darn good! I have been making a special effort to go there over the last few years (no small feat considering I live in the east village and up until a few months ago they were take out only). I really like the beef ribs - they are very tender and the sweet sauce is good, but at times they are a tad bit fatty. The chicken is also delicious - very tender and flavorful. The pork ribs are pretty good too, but I prefer a wetter rib. What I really like are the barbecue beans. I think they are the best I have ever had and I highly recommend them!

If you can, go now!
I am a huge fan of Daisy May's. I love the Plate Specials. What a deal for all that food! Here's a rundown of what's what...
Kansas style ribs are delicious. Sweet & sticky is their name - and how appropriate. I've always been more drawn to Kansas style ribs until I met the Memphis dry rub! WOW! Talk about packed with flavor! The pork ribs here are fantastic. You can see the slow BBQ cooking in the meat - inside it's so tender, while the outside is browned and has great texture. Make sure you wash your hands before eating - you WILL be licking every bit off your fingers.
The "FIXINS" will make you want to quit any diet you're on. The baked beans are slightly too sweet for my liking and so are the peaches. My favorites are the CREAMY CORN and CREAMED SPINACH. I would be satisfied if those were the only vegetables I could eat for the rest of my life. The sweet tea is very sweet. I had trouble finishing it, but I'm not a big liquids person.
If it was closer to the train, I would've eaten there at least once a week. Even though it's a bit of a hike, it's worth every extra step.
Daisy May's did not disappoint but I wouldn't rank it at the top of my BBQ list. I thought the pulled pork and brisket sandwich were exceptional but the sides lacked the quality to give this place 5 stars. The creamed corn was...interesting; it was a little spicy and definitely like no other creamed corned I've had. Lastly, this place is quite hard to get to from the subway but if it's a nice day/night it's well worth the walk over to 11th.

First off let me say that being from the South I am a stickler for BBQ. and Daisey Mays is the best I've had in New York. So why two stars? Let me 'splain....
A few weeks back I called for a delivery as I always do and was put on hold for nearly 10 minutes. When the woman came back on she asked for my phone number and said she'd have to call me back. After about 20 more minutes she called and took my order. When I told her my address, which is 13 blocks from them, she says "That'll be a $5 charge." I've ordered from DM many times and have never paid an extra charge. I asked her what it was for and was informed it was a new delivery charge. I was pissed and hung up.
Now this evening I was jonesing for some BBQ with the Playoffs and was willing to forgive. I called up and told the man I wanted to place a delivery order and was informed "We stop delivery at 7:30. It was 7:20. And there is nothing on their menu or web site about a cut off point for delivery.
Seems down home BBQ has a little too much of the big city attitude for this boy. Too good for my money? fine.... I'll move along to Brother Jimmy's...
EDIT- They are no longer charging me $%. to deliver so I'm bumping them 2 stars for theyr great Q.

As a treat to those of his employees who were working the week between Christmas and New Year's my boss ordered us a BBQ feast from Daisy May's, and while I had to take off one star because they delivered the order 30 minutes early and thus before we were ready to eat it, I have to say that the food really exceeded my expectations.
My HUGE pulled pork sandwich was delicious, with just the right about of tangy/spicy/sweet bbq sauce and a physics-defying amount of tender and not-overly-stringy meat crammed on to a soft but not soggy bun (how it managed to remain not soggy i have no idea) topped with a small amount of crisp coleslaw which offered a nice contrast in texture. My co-workers were similarly impressed with their brisket and chicken sandwiches as well. The sides that my boss ordered were oh-so-mouthwatering too; think velvety sweet and spiced sweet potato pudding, bright green creamed spinach, buttery corn bread and a somewhat complicated version of pork and baked beans. All this, washed down with sweet tea poured out of massive mason jars, and you can imagine the food coma we were all in for the rest of the work day. It might be a while before my boss orders us lunch from Daisy May's again, but that's only due to the decrease in productivity that the meal resulted in, and not because we didn't love every bite.
Great, but overpriced southern cuisine. The pulled pork sandwich + iced tea in a mason jar combination is a must.
After hearing a reccommendation of this place from Rachel Ray I went to Sally May's. I don't like bbq and I don't like eating near 42nd street but I went anyway, because my family really wanted to. The food was really delicious; particularly the kansas style ribs and mashed potatoes which is what I ordered. Those potatoes were the most amazing that I've ever tasted, probably, and even though I'm not a fan of bbq I enjoyed the ribs too. The portions they give you for the ribs are huge! I shared a half order with my sis and we still only finished a third of it. Eh, I can't do the math but that's a lot of food. I started to feel a little gross after eating so much because the food is a bit heavy.
The atmosphere on the other hand, well I don't know, I felt like I was eating in a barn. It was dead and there were two big television screens (never seen that before except in Burger King). So, I will probably never be back here, because I'm big on atmosphere, but I'd reccommend getting take-out if you live/work around the neighborhood, or coming in for a meal if you enjoy barn-dining.
