Papamingo lacks a variety of yogurt flavors (only Original, Green Tea and Pomegranate the 3 times I've been there). However, its really cheap and you can add in fresh fruit toppings like mango, pineapple, kiwi, etc! Also, mention you're a Cal student and get an additional discount!

Even though I am not the biggest fan, I keep finding myself at Papamingo. Not that their yogurt isn't good, it is. It's just that Yogurt Harmony is so much better.
Papamingo is very conveniently located just off Telegraph and it's open later than Yogurt Harmony, but other than that they don't have much going for them. Their yogurt is a bit more pricey, and you always get that damn empty pocket in the middle of your yogurt...this is not an issue at Yogurt Harmony.
I've only gotten the Plain yogurt flavor here, but I've heard the Pomegranate is yummy too. I recommend the Plain with Mochi and any two of the following toppings: Mango, Strawberries, Raspberries, and Kiwi.
Don't forget the Mochi though it is essential and not getting it = yogurt FAIL.
Papamingo is a pretty good place all in all, but if you are craving some yogurt before 10pm, head over to Yogurt Harmony.

This is what pinkberry/redmango/all those other knock offs should be like.
The yogurt is good, the serving sizes are large (for the new sour frozen yogurt chains), and the toppings are liberally applied. I would recommend getting only a single topping - every one else acts like I'm crazy, but I feel like they give you almost as much of just the one thing as all of the 3 toppings put together. Plus, why would you ever need anything beyond mochi?
I personally always get the medium green tea with mochi, but the fruit is pretty good too.

At first I thought this place was pretty good, but compare to the other frozen yogurt place on Telegraph, this place is not so good. First of all, it SEEMS like they give you a lot of yogurt but they really don't, there is a giant hole in the middle which is a complete rip off. Second, they give you little topping, they gave my friend 3 black berries and gave him 1 more because he asked them why they gave him so little. Third, some of their workers are simply rude, this korean girl who works there had a pissy attitude and only give people discount when they asked her. She was impatient and rude. Never going to back to this place again.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I'm obsessed with the whole tart frozen yogurt craze and this place is my favorite! Their plain tart and pomegranate is pretty good but I go here solely for the green tea tart. It's the only one I've found besides Yoberry (in SJ) that has this flavor. The green tea is subtle but it is still there so if you're someone that likes green tea flavored stuff, you MUST try this. MmmMm!
They have all the usual toppings such as Mochi (fav!), cereals, and fresh fruits. The only complaint I have is that they could give a little more topping.
The price is pretty cheap also and if you go to Cal (or say you go to Cal), you get a 10% discount. Remember to check the Berkeley's Guide for the BOGO deal to make it even cheaper. =D I'm drooling just thinking about it.

Papamingo's, pink flamingos... what's the big deal?!?! Passing fad, almost.
If the guy weren't so stingy with my toppings, I would've graciously handed over another star. Sucks to be Scrooge! But hey, I like to give people second chances, so uhh, if you're reading this, I REALLY like mochi cubes. Make note of that (and I guess my face) and I'll up the stars next time!
...but ehh, I guess the fro-yo's not bad. The original's not too bland but not too tangy either. The pomegranate's actually pretty good!...but I'm usually unwilling to pay more when I don't get more. You can ask for free samples though. There's also green tea...very subtle green tea.
3 stars mainly for having coupons in the Guide to the Good Life though. Buy-one-get-one FREE!
I was always wondering what the buzz about Pinkberry was all about and after my friend brought me here I kinda had a feeling it was similar...and after reading the reviews I was right. Indeed delish...but I just can't justify paying close to 5.00 for a cup of plain yogurt. They are not very generous with the toppings (4 rasberries? gosh). However, it's better than your regular frozen yogurt shop and is one of a kind so I will be back....maybe next time I will just bring my own container of chopped fruit and make it worth it (jk).
Uh. Did I miss something? I don't see what's so great about this place.
Went here last weekend with the boyfriend and we ordered the regular frozen yogurt with mochi balls, mango and chocolate.
They swirl it in the cup in such a deceptive manner that you think you're getting a lot, but there's actually a giant air bubble underneath. Clever. I should master the air bubble swirl.
The fruit is freshly cut, but our mango was still somewhat green and the mochi is chewy. Chocolate is typical (yeah, I know, chocolate chips, how boring am I?)
The yogurt itself was nice and tarty, if they're your thing...
Overall... I don't know. Didn't really hit the spot. Felt kinda hollow with the hollow center.
I don't know how long papamingo's can survive in it's current location. Since I've gone to school there, I've seen about 4 different stores there. When I went there, the place was pretty dead despite the sweltering heat.
much better than pinkberry bc their fro-yo doesnt have that strong "cultured" taste. i love the pomegranate with fresh mangoes and strawberries! its very refreshing and light. the only downside is that its kinda expensive and they have a credit card minimum, like most berkeley places. oh, and they are skimpy with the toppings (for an extra $0.75 each, they should pile that stuff on, especially since they dont fill the cup full). but they do give students a 10% discount! ask for a free sample of the green tea fro-yo... its so good!

For Lent, I should have given up mentioning the words "frozen yogurt" in my conversations... it has officially gotten old...but eating it hasn't!! mm mm baby
Well regrettably I am not one of those people who are in the category of having tried Pinkberry yet (my hometown gives me a somewhat legit excuse until I can get my friends to fed ex me a cup *HINT GOOD FRIENDS OF MINE*)
so from that stance..
mmm definitely addicted to the flavor and less creamy consistency of the plain yogurt at this place ....but why... is it ... so expensive for a little cup o icy milk mixture??? They have a huge machine crankin' that stuff out... why do they gotta be greedy?? small plain + mango, strawberry, blueberry = $4. Credit card has $5 minimum...sadness. While I was eating one blueberry fell to the ground and rolled away...traumatic...
I feel like I'm paying for gelato..... oy I'm going to start making my own frozen yogurt in my ice cream machine and setting up a little stand in front of my apt... then I, too can start making some nice cash money off of yogurt craving Berkeleyans + visitors.
but bonus+ points for being open the latest!! Thought I'd end on a good note! :)

Yes the prices are a tad expensive, but its definitely a healthier alternative to yogurt park. They cut up fresh fruit for toppings and its SO DELICIOUS. I've only tried the original yogurt flavor but I was definitely satisfied. I can't wait to try green tea and pomegranate. I'd say its definitely better than their competitor Ryno's on telegraph.

it's just aiight. Texture and taste were neutral to me...nothing good nothing bad. I think i just need pinkberry *sigh*
Papamingo's was decent tart fro yo. It would have gotten four stars if it was more "tart" or if it didn't melt so quickly. The toppings were good and the fruit looked really fresh. I got Strawberries and they were perfectly ripe. I wasn't impressed with the pomegranate flavor, but overall it satisfied my craving.
I just had a plain yogurt with blueberries.
The flavor was tangy & not too sweet. Just the way I like it. The consistency was perfect & didnt leave that weird artificial residual after affect as some frozen yogurts do.
The blueberries were fresh & plump. Went great with the yogurt. I also took a gander @ the quality of the other toppings & the other fresh fruits looked fresh as well.
I would definitely come back.
-------update--------
I've been back twice now and I have to change my rating from a 5 to a 3. The yogurt flavor wasn't as I described it initially. The last 2 times I've been in it had a synthetic after taste to it. I don't really know how to describe it. Also, the toppings (fresh fruit) didn't seem fresh at all AND it seems the portions have gotten much less. C'mon, I'm not paying 95 cents for 7 blueberries.
Anyway, not sure what happened to the quality but there's definitely a difference.

Big fan of the peach flavored yogurt here. I like how it's a little sweeter than the tartness that Pinkberry fans crave. The pomegranate is kind of weird.

This shit is...pretty good.
I had heard much hype about the whole Pinkberry thing, the "real frozen yogurt" bullshit talk, and I was prepared to not buy it whatsoever.
Problem is, I crave the sour yogurt taste of this crap. Drop some chocolate chips and raspberries up in that bowl, and you're set. The pomegranate flavor is even better. The place itself is nondescript, service is timid and meh, but damn I will eat here again. Don't get me wrong, I'll still hit the Yogurt Park up now and then for a more ice cream-ish cup of sugar, but I have seen the light and it's on Channing Avenue.

I tried Papamingo yesterday and got the yogurt du jour, tart blueberry! It was quite good, with fresh strawberries, pineapple, and mochi balls on top. I like how this place is open until 11pm on Sundays, since my boyfriend and I were craving fro yo at 10:30pm. The store could indeed work on its presentation - the floors felt sticky, for example. But I do appreciate the 10% off for students, plus there's a BOGO free coupon in the Guide to the Good Life :)
All in all, worth checking out - especially if you get a craving and nothing else is open... :)

Tried the green tea flavored yogurt and it was great. The pomengrante was also good. You even get a student discount! However, portions were kinda small for the price...
There are two types of people in the world: those who have eaten Pinkberry and those who haven't eaten Pinkberry.
Thank god I'm in the first category and I'm never going back. Then why do I drag myself up Channing once a week? Good question, I'm not really sure myself but this whole frozen yogurt business is addiction I just can't shake. My boyfriend doesn't understand my fascination but I'm desperate! I always come crawling back to papamingo after a craving hits, and I leave guilty, $5 poorer and ultimately, dissatisfied with their small portions and stingy toppings. Are you seriously going to count out the blueberries you're giving me? Take out the some kiwi after you've already put it in? It's bad news bears when I see more white on the sides than toppings, especially with the price I'm paying.
But I have to say the yogurt tastes ok. I've only had the original and it's a bit creamier in comparison to Pinkberry (our control), which is fine but it melts way too fast, even in 50 degree weather.
I go back home to LA and even Pinkberry knock-offs (CeFiore, Pingoberry) are better and cheaper than this place. But sigh, we are under the laws of supply and demand regarding Pinkberry-esque stores in the Bay Area and ultimately the harsh truth is that frozen yogurt sucks here.
It's probably because it's too freaking cold all the time.

I guess this will be the closest thing to pinkberry up here.... it sure has the same feel and mimics the environment with the bright neon colors and modern ikea furniture. It's missing the expensive accessories and little goodies on the side that you can look at but would never buy. The place is clean and workers are friendly but a bit slow. I've been here on more than one occasion and just like people have mentioned, they WEIGH the cup each and every time... what the? just fill the size that people order or at least know about how much you need for it to weigh so many ounces. Are they making sure they give you enough?? because I sure hope they wouldn't take any out if they went over, because I would just walk out the door. Eat it with mochi and some fresh fruits for the win.
10% off for students, so even if you are not one and can pass for one then just say yes.

THIS is just a HEADS UP for all potential customers, customers, and any HEALTH DEPARTMENT WORKERS reviewing this website:
I received some less-appetizing news from some of the workers who work at PAPAMINGOS. I use to be a regular customer but now I'm looking elsewhere from what those workers informed me.
First of their carton of yogurt from the FRO-YO "YO-CREAM" company are not kept in fridge temperature as instructed on the box, it is left out daily and left sitting until the yogurt gets chunky, and what they do is pour it into a bucket and blend it with a mixer to work out the chunky glops of yogurt into a smooth cream. I think that would be a health violation and actually harmful for the customers who purchase the yogurt.
Also they recycle their old, non-sold yogurt from the previous night before by incorrectly sticking them into the fridge and not the freezer.
Also, the worker also said that the POM juice that they use to make some of their special flavors are not properly stored in a fridge and are left sitting in the storage rooms.
Also, keep an eye out for their special FRUIT flavors. They use SYRUP instead of non-fat flavors to make their special flavors, BLUEBERRY, MANGO, STRAWBERRY. These syrups are extremely fattening and NOT "NON-FAT" or "NATURAL" like their other flavors.
Their fruits are definitely not fresh, they cut buckets full of fruits and leave them sitting in the fridge for DAYS!!! I think this is definitely wrong especially when they promise their customers freshly cut fruits and freshly made yogurt, they should give all their customers refunds for blinding them with the truth. My friend also told me that they even cut spoiled and moldy fruits and serving customers the part that the mold has not reached.
Also, when I ordered a frozen yogurt with fruit toppings, I discovered shavings of fruit peels and skins within the toppings, which makes me lose my appetite. The RASPBERRY are definitely not fresh. The KIWI are squished and very watery, almost like the juices were building up from being left sitting out all the time. Their MANGO were very bruised and improperly cut, not very fresh. There STRAWBERRIES, like the KIWI, are very watery almost syrup like with very little actual strawberry pieces. Their BANANAS are left out sitting on the counter tops and are improperly kept.
Following closing, they leave their fruits in those containers and improperly store them without any coverings, serving the leftovers and at times buckets full of cut fruits the very next day, not fresh. When you do see fruits being cut, thats probably during a busy period, or the worker is just stocking up serving the old fruits first and the fresh ones after. So if you are ordering and someone is cutting fruits, demand that they use the ones they are cutting and not the ones sitting in the pans.
If your a customer or a possible customer, I urge you to look over the counter and examine how they keep their fruits. The only time their fruits are freshly cut is when they run out of the old ones. Keep an eye out for the conditions of the fruits.
It also appears that they have an ANTs problem. I noticed a black little spec in my yogurt and realized that it was an ant that has sneaked into the yogurt machine. If you see ants in the food/kitchen area, you should contact the HEALTH DEPARTMENT asap for this is a health violation in a restaurant.
Also, I use to work at another popular yogurt shop myself, which also starts with a "p" and ends with "berry" and I know how to operate the machine. The machines at papamingos are the same as the ones we use at the other yogurt place. The striking difference is the hours on the machines. Papamingo apparently do not clean their machines as often as the other yogurt place. Over at the other place, the machine is cleaned daily or every two days, whereas papamingo machines apparently are cleaned weekly. If you want to test them out, drop by their store daily and look at the numbers on the machine, which represent the hours of the last time it was cleaned. If it shows a "1" it means that it was recently cleaned.
Their counter-tops are very unsanitary and you can catch dried, crusty yogurt stains on the sides. Their bathrooms and toilets are hardly ever cleaned, just mopped. The trash bags are constantly being reused, leaving a distinct odor around the trash area.
Again, I would like to just warn yelp seekers and yogurt lovers of the conditions and what goes on in the back of this particular yogurt shop, my sources are very accurate and dependable since they come from current workers of the shop. I am not trying to convince customers to head elsewhere such as "RYNO'S" or "YOGURT PARK" for yogurt, I just want to help fellow yelp readers to keep their eyes out.
On the good side,
He does offer a 10% discount for students, and a buy one get one free coupon.

We just happened to walk by here since GB Style Engine Women's Apparel store caught my attention.
Papamingo is a very cute, modern looking frozen yogurt place. They have regular Papamingo frozen yogurt that I didn't try:
Small 5 oz $2.5
Medium 8 oz $3.5
Lg 13 oz $6
Papamingo Plus Green Tea
S $3.5
M $4.5
L $7.5
Papamingo + Pomegranate. I got a small sample and thought it was ok..sweet & tangy. I also got to try Blueberry which I thought was sweet & tangy.
S $3.5
M $4.5
L $7.5
Any single topping .95c
If you want 3 toppings $1.5
Papamingo yogurt ball $2.5. I think it's a creme puff w/ frozen yogurt inside it, they didn't have any so I can't tell you what it's like.
Green tea yogurt ball $3
Pomegranate yogurt ball $3
Papamingo Fresh Berry Smoothies $5.5 -Papamingo yogurt + 3 seasonal berries.
Fresh fruit smoothie $4.5-Papamingo + a single fruit
Papamingo Acai Smoothie $5 -Papamingo + Acai
Saw one unisex bathrooms I didn't use, close to the entrance.

This isn't like Pinkberry, but it's a decent substitute. The prices are a little pricey for the average student, but they give you 10% off if you're a student. Um.. I wasn't a student, but when the worker just asked, I said yes, and he applied the discount. That wasn't too shabby.
The frozen yogurt was tart but it just lacked that oomph that Pinkberry had. Also, a suggestion to the store would be to work on their presentation. The toppings were not neatly displayed and they seemed a bit frugal with them. I would definitely come back if I was craving some frozen yogurt.

I used to like this place, that is until I went to Yogurtland in Irvine. This place is OKAY, not bad, decent, average, but I still eat here because of the buy one get one free coupon from the Guide to the Good Life. Even with the coupon, it's still more expensive than Yogurtland though.
Advice: go get a Guide to Good Life and get some coupons!
I like it better than the more common crazy frozen yogurt flavors which are overly sweet to me. It was good-- natural yogurt taste with little sweetness and simple toppings (carob chips, fresh fruit). My sweetheart disagreed: too tart, no choices (they were out of several toppings), boring and would rather have a chain.

The one thing that really stood out about Papamingo was the quality of the yogurt. Too many frozen yogurt places have this sugary sweet ice-cream-wannabe stuff, and I really enjoyed the slightly sour flavor of Papamingo. The fresh fruit was also a nice touch - prefer tart fruit that complements the yogurt (mango, blackberries).
However, $4 for a little bowl is pretty excessive. And, after all, it is only yogurt. Worth going to once in a while, I suppose.

I dont know what it is....buts its good. I knock stars off because the dood actually weighs out exact amounts. Fill it to the top man!
Though this place is no red mango, i can't deny that it satisfied my crack like addiction to the stuff i formed while i was in la. I do want to say that had this place not opened, I would be making many an unnecessary trips to la just to feed my substance abuse problem.
Unfortunately if you've been to pinkberry and red mango you know that they usually put a big gaping hole in the middle. The owner is really nice and this place is much cheaper than redmango and pinkberry so honestly i'd stop complaining and give into the addiction.
If this is really what Pinkberry tastes like, then count me out...
The rivalry of the UCs continue in the form of yogurt shops. UCLA gets Pinkberry, UC Irvine gets Yogurt Land, UCSD gets Yogurt World, and UC Berkeley gets... Papamingo?
When I want tart yogurt (and not the Americanized froyo meant to taste like ice cream)... then I want tart yogurt, damn it! I feel like Papamingo is really confused about what it wants. It's halfway there - with the asian yogurt flavors of plain, green tea, and pomegranate, but it really fails in execution. For one, the place is in kind of a random spot with bright decor that just comes off as kind of dirty/tacky. The yogurt is alright but nothing special: it has the creaminess of say, Yogurt Park, but lacks the truly tart flavor. And it really isn't all there: the flavor is too light and leaves you kinda hanging. Plus, it just melts too fast... my yogurt got watery pretty quick.
On top of it all, prices are kind of ridics! Poor UC Berkeley kids. They have yet to discover the wonders of our Socal yogurt joints.

Well... I have a love/hate relationship with dear old PAPA. you see, once upon a time it promised pinkberryish yogurt that was healthy and appetizing. though it always "hits the spot" for me, I just want to add that I always have a stomach-ache after eating PAPAMINGO. I told my roommates about this, thinking maybe I was lactosse-intolerant, but then they pointed out how I eat cheese a LOT and drink loads of milk. so obviously, that's not the case.
There is a $10 minimum for credit card purchases which is SHIT cause honestly, who spends 10 bucks on effing yogurt? not me. therefore, I avoid this place cause I don't wanna deal with case.
Portions are STINGY. the yogurt is laid out in a way in which it if filled with air.. its not a solid swirl of yogurt like you'd think it'd be. Plus, the guy weighs the toppings to make sure he gives you just the right amount. uh huh.
Basically, I'm trying Ryno's tomorrow. look out for that review.
nice tart taste (plain is the way to go)
love the toppings
(kiwi, strawberry, blackberry, mochi, & more)
but it is a bit expensive
BUT for students, look in the coupon book for a buy 1 get 1 free
that makes it a pretty good deal
i love frozen yogurt!! and this place is so cute and good and their mochi balls are the better then here in davis (sadly). customer service is a bit slow tho since the workers possibly take turns playing counterstrike in the back? lol i don't know. oh but they also have like a student discount which i guess makes up for it
i tasted pinkberry in new york city.
papamingo wins.

I don't know what is going on here. Apparently, I'm out of the hipster loop because I have not heard of this "Pinkberry" establishment everyone speaks of. I can say that I just don't get this place. We ordered 2 small yogurts (3.50 ea) plus the 3 toppings each (1.50 ea) and it ended up being 8 bucks! He gave us a discount because we were students, so it was reduced to 7.20. Still, this is way too much for what this is.
The guy was weighing our yogurts on a scale as he pumped it into our cups. The result: A nice large mound of yogurt that ended up being hollow in the center!
We ordered blackberries and he carefully counted out 1-2-3 of them and placed them on the side of the yogurt.
There are 2 other yogurt places on Durant (one street over), so I'm amazed that this place even survives. But apparently the "pinkberry" people seem to love this place.
The downlow: expensive and ridiculous

Refreshingly addictive frozen yougurt. I alway sample the other flavors but end up ordering the plain. In theory there are lots of toppings to choose from, but they often "run out" of things [see side note]. I think it's way too expensive ($3 something with a student discount) for the amount that you get. Their swirl technique creates a big air hole in the middle of the yogurt, and that just ain't right.
*sidenote: multiple times I've gone in, ordered, and been told that they are "out" of a certain topping, so I'm forced to chose another. The last time I went in, my friend Zoey wanted banana and she was told they were "out", even though there was a banana sitting on the counter in plain view. Zoey called the girl out and she begrudgingly peeled and sliced it, as if it were some huge inconvinience. I just don't like to be played like that...
Pretty tasty fro-yo, actually! They had four different flavors: Original, Blueberry, Green Tea, and Pomegranate. Their flavor isn't as distinct and strong as Red Mango (and definitely, NOT as tart as Pinkberry), so it was a bit of a toss-up for me. But on a cold Berkeley night (40'f~), it was perfect.
I wasn't able to get pictures and unfortunately, forgot to snag ANY pictures of my trip to Berkeley, but I'm sure I'll take some when I go up again. What's with the two dollar signs? I got a medium half-original, half-pomegranate with two toppings of mochi and one topping of mango, and my total came out to $5.40. Pretty decent, really. They also offered a 10% discount to students, but I really didn't feel like whipping out my grumpy-face-Fullerton-city-student ID.
It's on the corner before you hit the apartments and the dorms.
The pomegranate isn't very strong, but it does have a delightful berry taste. I didn't have a problem with the pricing or the amount of yogurt that they gave and I didn't have a hole either. The original-pomegranate swirl was pretty and doable. Delicious.

attempt #3 to find something worthy of the pinkberry hype.* mission unsuccessful, yet again.
my 2nd day in a row back in berkeley (i'm starting to feel like a student again), and after trying Ryno's yesterday, i moved down the block to Papamingos.
i tried the standard original flavor and a sample of the pomegranate. i know these yogurts are supposed to be tart, but the pomegranate was way too sour, and the original was not tart enough. the texture was creamy and melted a little quickly, but managed to stay freezing cold. portions were sufficient, but, as others mentioned, there was a hole in the middle of my yogurt as well. the price is a little expensive, especially for that con they pull on you.
overall, another decent yogurt place, but didn't quite win me over to the dark-berry side.
*disclaimer: i've never had pinkberry, but i'm DETERMINED to figure out what the hype is, until i make my way to an actual pinkberry.
This is another Pinkberry knock-off. The yogurt is good, but the stuffy atmosphere and sticky tables make this place uncomfortable to hang out in.
It's hard to go in-depth on fro-yo without sounding philosophical. People like to talk about how each fro-yo is different and has it's own personality... bogus. While each place may taste slightly different, they all have the same basic ingredients: fro-yo, fruit, spoon.
We personally like Fraiche (although it's a Stanfurd establishment... SSSSSS) better. Fraiche has a nice Soy flavor and it seems more committed to excellence. Papamingo just wants to ride the Pinkberry wave.
We rarely write such critical reviews, but hey, how harsh can one get on a fro-yo place?
Don't get me wrong, Papamingo is good but it is no Pinkberry. I've tasted yogurt from LA to the bay area and I think that iour money is better spent at Yogurt Bar in SF! It is very similar if not better than Pinkberry and it is a great place to hang out!
This is another Pinkberry knockoff!! I decided to give this place a try since I had an urge to eat frozen yogurt for lunch. I tried the pomeganate flavour because i was curious to see what it tasted like, it was sweet and filled with tartness. It's not the best yogurt in town, but it's not bad either. The fruit doesn't look fresh and wasn't properly cut. Also the price here is kinda expensive, you can expect to pay $4.50 for a medium size yogurt + another $1.50 for 3 toppings (total $6.00), but they were giving out a 10% discount.
Another note, the parking around Berekely is terrrible. You'll have a hard time finding parking there. Your best bet is to park in the garage if your going to this area.
