This place randomly closed. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Cute atmosphere with free wifi, but their cupcakes and basically everything else left much to be desired. Hope something good takes it's place! I miss the Creperie :(

I'd give The Spotted Apron 4 stars for its red velvet cupcakes alone.  They're incredibly moist, and the vanilla marscapone icing is a nice touch.  If I had a happy place, it would be the inside of this cupcake.  I tried the white cupcake once but didn't find it too be as good -- it was a little dry in my opinion.  Maybe I'm just severely biased toward the red velvet.

Taking away 1 star because I'm not a fan of the interior design.  The gray, square tables and chairs with sharp pointed edges make the entire place feel too industrial and utilitarian, which is not the feeling I want when I'm inside a bakery.

Bummer!!!
Spotted Apron is no longer in Beacon Hill.

I walked over the other day to get some coffee and take advantage of the internet while mine was MIA and it was closed up. I was more sad than i expected (because to be honest I had only been like 3 times
ever). I think I was so disappointed because I felt like I should have patronized this little home-run place wedged between the 5 or something Starbucks in Beacon Hill more. I hope it does open again and isn't just pushed out.

Anyway... its not open right now. Just fyi.

Walk down Charles and chill out in Cafe Vanille on the corner of Charles and Mt. Vernon for an alternative to Starbucks.

Let me start off by telling you about myself and my situation:
I work for an event planner/wedding planning company. Our company does anywhere from 50-80 events a week ranging from the company holiday party to bat mitzvah and even weddings.  We had an excellent baker who worked for us but unfortunately she decided to venture onto motherhood and put baking away to take care of her 2 newborn twins.

So we went looking for a new baker or bakery that would be able to handle our large orders. I live in Beacon Hill and automatically thought of The Spotted Apron. I been to their bakery before and found their bake goods to be quite tasty. I did not receive decent customer service at any of my visits but I put that aside and thought that if I was dealing directly with the owner to place an order that I should be experiencing better customer service than from the college kids behind the counter.

The owner of the company called up and asked to speak to the owner or a manager. A manager who spoke broken English came on the line and she explained the situation. He was not in authority to discuss with us any price specifics or anything of that sort but would be giving our information to the owner. That's fine.

Four days passed. We did not receive a phone call from the owner and we assumed that perhaps she never received the note so another phone call was made to The Spotted Apron. Once again the owner was not in and we ended up getting transferred to the same manager that we spoke to last time. Same conversation as above. Hopefully this time we get a call back!

We didn't wait for the phone call. Same day we sent them an email stating our situation. Within 2 days  I received a 2 sentence response "how many cakes and what day" I gave him the amount of special order products that is around average and also said that the majority of the events are Thursday-Sunday. They said "we'll do it for you but we are a new business and the owner still needs to be there everyday.  She can not sustain a 7 day per week schedule.  As soon as Managers / employees get more experience we will open 7 days per week.  Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to be able to open Sundays soon."
we are a bit slow so we just asked to confirm if they can bake for us but just not for a Sunday pick up. And they said yes.

I may seem a bit snobbish here but we could have gave you enough business so you can pay your monthly rent. We decided a long time ago that we only going to have one go-to person/company for each aspect of the business. For instance, we only use 1 florist company, 1 bakery, 1 DJ company (with various DJ of course) we found it easiest that way and it works great. Unfortunately, since the Spotted Apron is not open on Sundays they do not have our business.

I am still going to give them 2 stars because even though they operate suicidally as a business they still have delicious baked goods. I love their red velvet cupcakes!

this place deserves a negative rating.....

First time I walked by here on a Sunday it was closed. Mental note to come back another time. Fine

The following Saturday.....10:45....the selection was horrible.....they didn't restock? I am not sure what the hell was going on. There was a girl behind the counter talking on the phone and filing her nails.

I was super pissed.not that I NEED a baked good, but hell, I came here to support another independent bakery that I love stumbling upon. So I decided to part with a jolt of java...........The girls were laughing to each other. Why? I don't know. Was it me? Or maybe she was telling the other girl her phone conversation-hey it must have been funny. Sorry, but for the area I would expect this place to be on it "A" game.  No excuse. I am imagining this place with adequate employees who give a crap about display and service

My coffee sucked. I only realized after I left because the place gave my  heeviiieee jaheeebbbiiiies and I didn't want to sit down anywhere.

Spotted Apron..more like Rotted Apron.

I don't see what all the 1 star reviews are all about. This place is a little pricey, yes, but it's clean and sunny and the perfect place to relax with some pastries and the Sunday paper. When I went it was pretty packed, so that should say something, too.

After a quick trip to Mass General to make sure my brother's skiing concussion was really just a bump on the noggin, we went across the Cambridge St to the S.Apron.  I have to say it's a bag of mixed nuts.

Stickin' Bun 2 star
The sticky bun was dry and dough lacked taste.  The pecans were candy coated with caramel sauce; why couldn't they use some of that sticky goodness in the inside???hmmm...

Cupcake 5 star
The chocolate frosted chocolate cupcake was excellent!  I must confess I thought it was better that my favorite Country Dessert =(
The cake was airy, but dense with moist cake batter.  A sign of a good cupcake is when you leave it on a napkin for ten seconds and it doesn't leave that grease footprint, S.Apron passes the test.  The frosting was more of a deep milk chocolate taste that just the run of the mill sugar rush.  A very mature sweet treat.

Frosted sugar cookie 3 star
A frosted cookie should not cost more that a cupcake!!!!  5 bucks! That's insane!  If my nephew wasn't with us, I would have never bought it.  The taste was just average, not very memorable except the outrageous cost.  Well at my mother used to say, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.  I will never order a cookie from you again SPOTTED APRON!

Coffee 2 star
Bland, and grinds were in my cup.  Yuk!
Bottom line,  great cupcakes don't get anything else.

First off, let me say, I wish there were more independent eateries on this side of Beacon Hill.

However, the Spotted Apron really needs to read their yelp reviews and take them into consideration!!!

On a Saturday morning at 11 AM, they were out of sticky buns, blueberry muffins, and a bunch of other stuff, leaving the display looking sad and full of crumbs. On a weekend morning, you think they would be stocked with muffins, et al... Very disappointing.  I think their prices are a bit high, esp. for the cupcakes (granted, I didn't buy any), which are your standard, made-at-home-from-a-box size, rather than the oversized-muffin type a restaurant could justify charging $2 for.

I think the decor sucks, too. I really like the color scheme, logo, and dots, but the industrial feel of the inside kills it. Starbucks feels more homey!!! At least they have some armchairs... What's with stainless still, Spotted Apron? Your interior designer should  have been fired.

Annnd, why are they not open on Sundays? That seems weird for a pastry place.

I'm coming back for a panini, though, so maybe I will upgrade their rating after that. Until then, pastries and coffee are a better deal at Starbucks, as much as I would like to support a local place.

I've been here a couple of times for the cupcakes, and they were delicious!  they are a little pricey however but i don't mind spending it on something as good as the red velvet cupcake!

also i had no problems with the staff - they were friendly to me...plus i see a lot of people bad mouthing it - however they just opened in july give them some time to work the kinks out people!

While I have never been to their actual beacon hill location, I tried some of their miniature cupcakes at my company holiday party and they were some of the best I've had anywhere.  The frosting was especially outstanding.   I'm a cupcake fanatic, and these were definitely top shelf.

So to all the cupcake lovers out there, definitely check them out!

horrible business pratice.

Danielle, the owner is obnoxious and rude to all the customers and employees.  The place if filthy. I was the only customer one afternoon and there was no where to sit because each table either had unpicked up plates, grime or just grossness.

I once saw a lady change her baby's diaper right on the table. gross.

Overpriced, not-vegan or vegetarian friendly, and they do not support local businesses so I am no longer going to support them.

The coffee is the worst you can get. It tastes like it was in a tin container!

You know how sometimes when you learn a new word you suddenly hear that word all the time. One of my neighbors recently said, "you have to go to the Spotted Apron, it's wireless, but closed on Sunday." (Well, that's the gist of it). Then, suddenly I kept seeing reviews for it popping up on Yelp. So, when I read the reviews my first thought was, ouch, this place sounds lame, I'll check it out eventually, but no rush. Then suddenly, today, two reviews popped up from accounts that were just opened today and only reviewed the Spotted Apron, and wrote their reviews one hour apart from each other. They each read like ads... and I have this feeling that they are written by people who are at the minimum, closely related to the establishment, I'm guessing the owners... but this is all speculation... but come on... it's fishy.

Anyway, I read them and decided that today was the day to try out the Spotted Apron. I took the advice of the owners... I mean... people who really liked the place and tried a cupcake and the mint lemonade. I will admit that it's probably not the best combination, but I have been looking for a good cupcake AND mint lemonade sounds delicious.

The cupcake was choco with vanilla frosting. The size is just what I'm expecting in a cupcake, not giant, a little bit bigger than the ones you get at a bake sale. The price was 2.85, which I find to be reasonable, especially since I haven't been able to find a decent cupcake anywhere within walking distance. The frosting was very tastey. The cake was mild in flavor, not too chocolatey, but more "cakey" than I want in a cupcake. Still, my favorite cupcake within walking distance.

The mint lemonade was... too tart for my preference. I know I was drinking it with a cupcake, so perhaps my palate was tainted, but I wasn't thrilled and probably wouldn't get it again. It reminds me of that mojito chewing gum.

Yeah, this place definately prices everything just a bit higher than every place else in the neighborhood within its genre.

Atmosphere: I like it, clean, simple, classic, round things, nice color palatte (my cupcake perfectly matched the plate it was served on - it just looked adorable).

REAL DISHES - I love that. I love to eat on a plate. A real plate. I love to drink out of a glass. I found that really nice.

Service - My cashier was really personable. He noticed the state on my driver's license and commented on it. When I was bragging about how the state had "everything," he was totally saying the exact same thing at the same time. Just before I left, someone walked in and asked to use the restroom, and he let her in even though she wasn't a customer, which I thought was nice. Come on, sometimes we all need a restroom. Although, the woman beside him made a frowny face at that.

Anyway, all in all, I'd go back. Friendly service is REALLY important to me, and my cashier was very nice. Community is what separates your local coffee/pastry shop from the big chains, so as long as that's the norm, I'll go back.  Also, they have wireless, and every now and then I get a cupcake craving.

Clean, tasty sandwiches and bakery, illy coffee (yay!) and outrageous prices. Contrary to other reviews of this place, my barista was marginally friendly.

We were there in off-hours, however.

Their curried chicken salad was on par with Starbucks' recent offering. The multigrain bread seemed homemade. Again, I love illy coffee. The bakery items were overpriced, but the flavor was good once the cupcake managed to defrost itself on the adorable little spotted plate.

Lunch for two at a cafe should not approach $30.

That's all.

The Spotted Apron excels at caf-style fresh baked goods.  While I have not tried them, they're sandwiches look delicious.  One of my favorite parts about this place is the overall atmosphere-- it is clean without feeling sterile and is certainly a great alternative to the more run-of-the-mill, corporate establishments.

My only complaint is that they cannot properly make a cappuccino.  I ordered a dry cappuccino and the gentlemen helping me nodded and proceeded to pour a large amount of icey-cold milk into my espresso!  I'm not an espresso snob in the least bit, but I was under the impression that "dry" is pretty standard terminology for "less milk."  If you need to ask what I mean by "dry" that's fine!  I just don't want a lot of milk in my drink.  Plus, I've never seen someone add cold milk to an espresso.

Either way, friendly (though perhaps not knowledgeable) service, great atmosphere and tasty cupcakes and baked goods make for a wonderful place to relax.

I was set to give this place 3 stars, but then I had the Red Velvet cupcake. Oh my! Not a traditional Red Velvet at all, but with marscapone frosting. Moist and exquisite--and gone in a minute! I also got an iced coffee and a curried chicken salad sandwich. All of which were good, but not astonishing.  A nice touch though, was the small side of olives and pickles with the sandwich.

The interiors are modern, but the flow of customers--even on a light Sunday morning--was confusing.  (Where does the line start? Where do you wait for your sandwich?) I can't imagine what it's like when it's busy. And you can't see the baked goods very well when people are standing in front of them.

The other major drawback are the prices. My order was $13.  I think the cupcakes are $3.75, which seemed to be just too much for me for the size that they are.  The staff was nice enough, but they seemed harried (this was their 1st weekend, though).

I agree with Ali E--a little let down, too expensive, and no comfy place to hang out. I might go back if I'm in the neighborhood to try something else.

The food is pretty good, but doesn't make me jump out of my seat OR drag my friends there... and the service was so rude I can't bring myself to go back.  I love their color scheme and their location, but even the Paris Creperie's inconsistent hours were preferable to this.  Maybe I caught it on a bad day, but I'm not running back for second tries

I walk by the bakery everyday and finally decided to stop in. The place is nice and clean, could definitely use some cozy couches to add that homey/comfortable touch that is typical to eat-in bakeries.

Food wise, I had the red velvet cupcake with a mascarpone cream frosting. The cake part of the cupcake was mediocre at best but the frosting was delicious. They should have added more frosting to disguise the dry cake. I wish I had tried one of the other cupcakes or one of the quiches. I also had a cappuccino, good but not hot enough to my liking.

The service was pretty slow considering I was the only one waiting on a coffee drink.

I will go again to sample one of the sandwiches, no more cupcakes!

I reeeeeeeally want to like this place. Everything I've had here, which is various coffees, 2 sandwiches, a cookie and a cupcake, has been "mediocre plus".  I haven't experienced any of the previously mentioned customer service problems, and I like the decor. It's just that when you walk by, it looks like it's going to be off the hook, and then when you go in, it's...fine. I'm hoping that they are still getting the hang of things and it will improve to be the neighborhood awesome coffee shop I want it to be. Oh, and it's not open on Sunday. Boo.

Really more of a 3.5, but I wanted to like it so much that it was that much more of a let down.

I live around the corner and have been bemoaning the loss of my only non-starbucks place to sit and drink coffee in comfy chairs since the crepe place left, and I'll continue to do so with the arrival of this place. I do like the renovations, but come on, no armchairs?

The sandwich I had was pretty good (roasted veggies and goat cheese) but not worth the expense. I feel like that's going to be more or less the norm here - good, but way overpriced. A latte should not start at 4$. 9$ for lunch is just too much.

I second the need for WiFi. I might as well just go to ABP so I can sit in a comfy chair and play online. Sigh. I really wanted to like you, spotted apron.

I will probably be back - the manager and cashiers were very accomodating and friendly, and some of the pastries looked awesome - but I hopt they lower their prices a little.

ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE CORNER OF CAMBRIDGE AND CHARLES STREET! THEY ARE CLOSED.

It looks like other Yelpers have had some rough experiences but I went this evening and like it because:

1. They have good cupcakes which everyone knows is the yardstick of civilization.
2. They Serve Ily coffee which I have a great fondness for
3. The Barista was  really friendly to me
4. If You go to "Johnny Cupcakes" on newbury street you will find T shirts.....then you will get confused about whats going on in Boston.....you might get a mild headache......why are there T shirts and not cupcakes? The spotted Apron has cupcakes. The world feels better.

I agree with some of the other reviewers. Free wifi would be great and the sandwiches don't seem so hot. The interior looks a little like someone went crazy at Ikea but it is a great improvement from the yard sale that was the former Paris Creperie. Also the pricing is what you would expect for an independent bakery on Beacon hill......pricey for what you get.

I had a good experience.

I was torn between giving 2 or 3 stars. I'm giving 3 because I want to cut them a little slack.

I was very sad when the creperie went away just because where else am I going to get crepes? Anyway, that's not the point.

I was looking forward to this place opening and was happy to give them a shot. I see a lot of negatives on customer service. I don't have any particular complaints about customer service but I will say they just kind of seem to have the lowest of the low working there - I've had friendlier more attentive service at fast food places. I think they need some better employees. I'm sure it's tough but they have to figure it out.

I like the decor - it's nice and bright and clean. I actually really hate couches and armchairs in cafes - they take up too much space and sit too few people. Usually when I'm in a cafe I'm doing something like using the laptop or reading or writing something and armchairs and couches are not convenient for any of these things. I also like that the tables are fairly big.

My biggest complaint is the prices. On the one hand I understand that it's an independent place and doesn't have access to the kinds of bulk purchasing I'm sure Starbucks and the like does. On the other hand, it kind of seems like they're pushing it a bit. I mean, almost $4 for a cupcake? Honestly, what are there 10-cents worth of ingredients in there? I'm pretty sure you could make an awesome profit selling cupcakes for more like $1.50, labor included.

I also wish, and this is true of all cafes generally, that there were more cold drinks and non-coffee drinks. I'm not a coffee drinker at all and barely drink tea. I'd like some juices, sodas, maybe sparkling water, etc. When I went (which admittedly was only once and over a month ago) the only cold drink I remember at all was lemonade. And that was also overpriced.

Also a quick note to people who mention getting on the "Free wifi". When I was there in mid July there was no legit wifi here, though there were lots of random wirless networks that my laptop saw if I wanted to try to access one. Be careful using random wireless connections when you're out and about. If it isn't clearly identified or, I'd even say, if you don't see signs about it on the premises or you don't confirm it with an employee, it could be some scammy person in a nearby apartment or business trying to swipe info from you when you go online. Make sure you know what you're doing.

I'll give you another shot, Spotted Apron, but you need to get better employees and more reasonable prices. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Where is the customer service?

I have been 3 times now and the baked goods and sandwiches are great.  The prices to me are not more than I would expect at an upscale bakery, as I see it as a premium experience compared with startbucks.

But customer service??? Where do you they get these people?  The girl behind the counter with the nose ring wouldn't last a week working at Mcdonalds, let alone at an upscale bakery.  There is something offensive about having a rude droid of a person taking your $12 lunch order.  I would take the staff on a corporate customer service retreat or I would dump them and find a new staff.

Either way, grab a nice cupcake which they wrap up so cute, and go enjoy it at Starbucks where you can have a better coffee drink with a more comfortable chair..

I've been here many times and each time I go the service and quality of the food gets worse.

First of all. Beacon Hill is not a Hispanic neighborhood and I do not understand why they are trying to cater to the Hispanic customer.  I lived in Beacon Hill for 4 years and seen only only a hand full of Hispanic residents. I find it an insult that they put the English speaking customer second.

Everything is overpriced even for Beacon Hill.  A lunch there typical runs $15 and that just for a sandwich and a drink.  It is too expensive. I do not know if they even know who their customer is and how much they are willing to spend.

The staff is personality-less. I am not saying that they do not have  a personality, I am sure that they all have a wonderful life with hobbies and interest and their own way of dressing but I would not know that. They are not allowed to talk to the customers aside from taking an order so I do not know anything about them. At my local Starbucks the barrista sees me as a regular and I know the reason they work there and their desire to pay for music school and my other barista wishing to save enough to buy his girlfriend an engagement ring so I have no problem putting a dollar of five in the tip jar. However the spotted apron they look like corporate whatever and I do not feel comfortable tipping aside form the 14 cents i have in change from the overprice meal. Where are the tattoos, where the dreams, their goals? They are people to. Let them act like it.  I been there everyday for 2 weeks and they do not even take the time to know my name, or anything about me.  Whenever I want someone friendly I just go to Starbucks and a barrista will ask me about my boyfriend and my cat. :)

the quality of food is horrible! In the beginning you can taste that they use high quality ingredients and lately it seems that all the sweets are dripped with Crisco. gross!

I sent an email TWICE to the Spotted Apron to complain and ask a basic question about their business and 3 weeks after I still have NOT received an email.  Most businesses would reply within 48 hours, especially small, independent shops because they value their customers so much. Unfortunately, the Spotted Apron does not care about us as customers and won't spend the 3 minutes replying to my email. My husband owns a small business and even though his job keeps him super busy he always, always makes time to respond to or talk to customers either in person or through email. There is no excuse.

Now to my experience at the spotted apron. It is pretty much what everyone else seem to have experienced. I work in the neighborhood and usually have a 30-45 minutes lunch break which is more than enough time to order and eat. Even sit down restaurants in the area (king and i, figs) understand the lunch crowd rush and are always serving super quick when it comes to lunch.
Why can't the spotted apron do the same thing? I ordered a panini-roasted vegetable with goat cheese and a coffee-your regular drip coffee to have there. Not so hard, right? WRONG. The girl behind the counter was clueless on how to make a panini (she not even new, i seen her in there everyday since they opened in July!)
First she put my coffee in the mug and let it just sit there behind the counter as she moved on to making my panini. After chatting with the other employee for a while and giving my panini 2nd priority 25 or so minutes passed by. Realizing that this is taking longer than I thought I told her that if it won't be to much of a problem I would like to take it to go. She rolled her eyes and said if i wanted it "to go i should have told her in the first place" then she poured the coffee into a togo cup. the ToGO cups are larger than the mugs at the store so it was pretty much half full. More than enough room for creme so i asked if i can have some more coffee in it and she said she can't because the owner is there.
the panini wasn't so great. it may have tasted better if i had it there but by the time i brought it to the office it wasn't hot anymore and tasted like i was eating cardboard.

it is also very, very expensive. I spent over $10 for a lunch that did not even fill me up. I can spend the same amount at ABP down the street and have a super large sandwich  that i can eat for 2 meals. It is too casual and industrial looking to be a high end bakery so why are you charging an outrageous amount of $$$$$$$s?

I do not like the decor. As someone said they went crazy in Ikea and they has got to fire their interior designer. While you at it do fire the girl behind the counter as well (the Hispanic looking one) I won't be going back any time soon.

We've gone in there to eat three times now, but have pretty much decided not to go back.  For what you get-it's overpriced.  The coffee is pretty lame.  The food is tasty, but the place is generally so dirty we feel gross trying to eat there.  Every time we've gone in (I don't know when the other reviewers are seeing the place cleaned up) there are stains and crumbs on the tables, along with used plates, cups and utensils.  The service is friendly but generally incompetent.  One woman who seemed to be the manager sort of floated around today while conveniently ignoring how filthy the eating area was.  There wasn't a single clean table!  We ate as quickly as possible (to get away from the grime and the crappy piped in music).  As we split, we shook our heads and pledged "never again."

I also really wanted to like this place, especially because I loved PC. The service was crappy - I stood at the counter for a few minutes before anyone even noticed I was waiting, and I overheard them getting orders the next two hours I sat there and they got EVERYONE'S wrong. I had a very mediocre cup of coffee while sitting in a really uncomfortable chair and a slightly burnt chocolate chip cookie with... no chocolate in it? Everything else looked really overpriced.

Good things: They do not play music. I cannot express in words how WONDERFUL that is in a cafe. No annoying trumpets and jazz or whiny acoustic guitar crap blaring so I can't concentrate on homework or hear someone on a cell phone.
Also got on the free wireless pretty easily.

I might try it again since the cupcakes look good. Mostly, it's a great place to go in and hang out - as long as you don't buy any food.

** UPDATE! **
I just walked by on my way home from work, and they are CLOSED! I thought my eyes were playing tricks, but alas, they are ALREADY relocating to a new space...It's sad to see how nothing ever lasts on this corner of Cambridge Street. I will miss you, red velvet cupcakes!

***********************************
I'm really surprised to see so many negative reviews. I think this place is such a breath of fresh air! Plus, they've barely been in business a month. I was amazed to see how fast these guys set up shop. I miss the creperie, but this is definitely a worthy replacement. Cambridge Street needs more places like this so it can get rid of the nasty rep it has for tacky restaurants and dirty convenience stores. I really like how clean and bright the overall look is, and how pleasant the colors are. Maybe not the best decor for the winter months, but it definitely is a good place to chill. They didn't have wi-fi yet when we went, but I'm sure that will make the place much more appetizing (but hopefully not more crowded!) to all you skeptics. We ordered a red velvet cupcake, a strawberry cheescake, and mint lemonade. I was all over the red velvet - that thing is just finger-licking good! The cheescake my husband had was creamy and perfectly sweet. The lemonade was ideal for a hot summer day, and the hint of mint leaves made it even more refreshing. They serve everything on gorgeous little dishes, and their adorable presentation made it  real easy for me to love the place. I'm anxious to go back and try out the sandwiches and coffee. My experience with the service was just fine. The cashier was very nice. She was however chit-chatting pretty obnoxiously about her love life with another barista, but I don't think its enough to take off a star. We sat at the bar, and the chairs weren't particualry uncomfortable. I do agreee that a nice couch or two would give it more of a cafe feeling (one of the details I loved most about the creperie). They have definitely improved on what used to be there, and the place just looks so well put together. I think the layout made it less spacious for customers, but I think that's a good thing. I guess its a bit pricey for pastries, but worth the splurge once in a while. And besides, if you're a Beacon Hill resident, you have no right to complain about the price anyway. I'm not saying that everyone on the Hill is loaded, or that the people that work around here are either. But, when you live in Beacon Hill, you expect to have places like this around. I don't pay to live in this neighborhood so that I can have a Dunkin Donuts or a Burger King right outside my door. There's plenty of other communities to choose from that are right up that alley. If you don't like snobbery, don't live here. That's what the Hill is and always has been about. I for one am really happy the Spotted Apron came to the neighborhood. It gives me a better reason to walk down Cambridge Street now.

UPDATE - Showed up early this morning for coffee around 7 am, and have officially found my new spot! Great coffee (Illy), nice and quiet in the morning, and a perfect way to start the day. Cashiers didn't seem to happy to be there, but I'd be pretty pissy too if I had to show up to work so early. Took a red velvet for the road, too. Those things are dangerous!

These reviews are way too harsh - the place has only been open for 2 days!  The people there were perfectly nice to me.  I asked and they are getting wi-fi next week.  The pastries and coffee I had were very good.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's Beacon Hill...

I've been to the Spotted Apron twice and I've had a great experience both times. I've tried their sandwiches, coffee and a cupcake. All were delicious. They have a lot of interesting pastries that I can't wait to try.

Be warned, however, that the Vietnamese Iced Coffee is strong and very sweet. I didn't know what it was when I ordered it and I found it to be a bit much. This could be typical for Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I don't know.

i did training here in the beginning of summer, and i was quite baffled how such a corporate run privately owned cafe hired me considering i:
a. have tattoos
b. wear my yamulka often
c. didn't have sufficient work documents at the time.
well, soon after this amazement i was fired after i came to work with an off white shirt instead of the mandatory bleach white.
so, to bury any nasty feelings for them (i did like some of my coworkers who coincidentally i never see working there anymore.) i went in a few weeks ago to get coffee and an empanada.
i cannot complain about the illy coffee ; i'm quite happy they serve it as i prefer it over starbucks. however...who the hell made that empanada? i know the business manager and co. are from argentina/s.america but damn i have had better empanadas at taco bell!
all in all i can see how this place fits in the general beacon hill / hip upcoming richies boston vibe...but for those who are a looking for something to help you forget you're stuck in boston...look elsewhere, my friend...and good luck!

update: so, danielle (the owner) is holding out a check that has been owed to me since the dawn of humankind (or just last june.) and she tells me today she doesnt owe me anything! interesting, considering i spent many hours being trained! some establishments just don't deserve business for many reasons, this is one of them.

I ordered a Chicken Salad sandwich to go.  Not hard right?  I get home, I find that I was given an Egg Salad sandwich instead, and the pickles/olives side that comes with the sandwich have completely spilled.  Nevertheless, I proceeded to eat my tiny, overpriced, and incorrect sandwich.  After a few bites, lo and behold, I found a hair in my sandwich that was definitely not my color.  I know that this place has only been open for a few days...but really?????
