"Peeeetttssss'!!  This is what i squeal incessantly every time i pass by this, my favorite coffee shop ever. Really, its like someone stepped on Babe's squiggly tail, and i apologize to everyone who's been trapped in the car with me. I am a huge advocate of supporting smaller local businesses, but I know when i want a consistently great cup of coffee Peets is where its at. The caramel latte is always a perfect mix of sweet caramel and it actually tastes like espresso, not just some artificial syrup bullshyte. I even love the staff!! Ive never tried the pastries, so these 5 stars are for coffee alone.

This review is for this particular Peet's.

Peet's is not my preferred cafe.  They don't have that 'I am going to read Tolstoy for 5 hours' or 'I don't care how many cups of coffee I have to drink until I that cute hipster comes and talks to me" type of feeling. You come, order, receive and leave.

Okay, so I have never read for a minute or met a straight man at this Peet's, but it is soooo lovely to sit on the terrace, stare at the svelte palm trees (just look at them in the pic!), be sunkissed, and perhaps have a cup of coffee, which is secondary to the scenery (oh my, I've never said that.)

In the words of Kanye, why can't life always be so breezy?

I absolutely love this peet's.  It doesn't hurt that I worked next door for over 2 years and got to know everyone.  There were the crew i could expect to see out back on breaks, the crew i could expect to come into my place of employ for food, and the crew who never quite bothered to return my hellos (boo on that last crew; i'm super friendly!)  I still have a soft spot for this peet's... near to nothing could change that.  Shout-outs to Joey, Kris, Megan, and Geoff.

I just made up this little ditty for them:  "The hibiscus iced tea rules me in the summer.  Triple-shot americano with honey in the fall.  In winter I'm a sucker for soy lattes.  In spring, oh it's no thing- I love them all!"*

Peet's Coffee & Tea, a positive taste experience. I would give it  5 stars, but my 5 stars goes to home made gourmet coffee from columbia or Costa Rica,Vietnam or French, with a touch of French butter. My sister sister introduced it to my mom and I after dropping off the other little sister to her dorm in UCSD. Sis, recommened that its better than Coffee Beans or Starbucks. I tried it, enjoyed it, slightly better than Coffee Beans and Coffee Beans are better than Starbucks. Good Coffee ! ..why am I  talking about coffee at 12:34am in the morning? I should be sleeping! Have to do some chemistry work, but not chemistry on coffee.

Best beans in San Diego.

The Hillcrest store is the best of the lot in town.

In store can be a bit crazy, but I would not brew any other bean at home (Garuda Blend!)

Great loose teas can be found at Peets.  I suggest the lemon rose, pretty good stuff.  Get a pot of that and that will fill up two cups to share.

Sit inside or sit outside on two of their patios.  They can sometimes get full so taking your tea to go is just as good b/c there are a lot of places to walk around and see in the area.

Peet's is not bad, but I didn't see any sugar-free vanilla or carmel syrup available here. I know I can get these things at Starbucks. I also know that there are alternatives to Starbucks, but this chain coffee shop doesn't have a decor that's cooler so it should at least have the similar options on the menu, if it wants to compete with good ol' Stabrucks.

I had a latte here and it was pretty strong, which I like, but it is a little too bitter, even with vanilla soy milk. That being said, I've had worst at Starbucks, so in that case, Peet's ain't so bad.

i worked for peet's for a long time, and it was a really good job, so i still have a soft spot for this place.  i could go on about the quality of their coffee, but most people recognize that it's really good.  i get espresso drinks (the drip kicks my ass too hard), and i really recommend their cappuccinos.

i do think the quality of the customer service and the cleanliness of the store have both dropped significantly over the last couple years.  when i get shitty service there, or when my drink takes 10 minutes to get made, or when i encounter a gross condiment counter it pisses me off, cause they woulda fired my ass for any one of those offenses--their standards used to be really high.

nevertheless, the patio is nice, and this location really facilitates its own sense of community--it's mostly regulars, and after working/going there for almost 8 years, i recognize most faces everytime i walk in.

fyi: the parking lot is a nightmare--it's run by people who work for satan.  speaking of satanic, i think normally nice drivers also turn evil the moment they try to park in it.  the parking lot is hell.

since i moved near peets, i have gotten HOOKED on their coffee.  seriously.  it's kind of a problem for me... it makes anything else taste like pisswater.

i usually get my joe on the go, though if i can snag an outside table, i do like to peoplewatch and dogwatch (there are always people with cool dogs hanging out on the patio).

peets, company-wide, could stand to work on its pastries.  they're a little lackluster.  but it's no big deal, because if you have a hankering for a sweet treat, bread & cie is right next door!

the staff is cool.  though they get slammed with customers at all hours of the day, they are efficient and still find time to chat with you.

I knew Peet's way back when there was but one:  the original Peet's location in Berkeley California, at the corner of Cedar & Vine (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  I used to go there whenever I could on my way home to the Berkeley Hills.  This were the good ol' days, back before Starbucks invaded our peaceful lives.

Peet's coffee just had something different.  Maybe I could sense the Dutch genius that infused Peet's and that all of us born in Holland are privileged to have...  Suffice it to say, Peets is where I'd go and get my coffee (yes...I'd also get it by the pound to brew at home.)

When I left Berkeley in 1993 and moved back to San Diego, I wept uncontrollably.   How would I ever live without Peet's?    On my trips up to Berkeley, I'd go back to the store on Vine and buy 5 lbs at a time, bringing it home and saving it previously for special occasions.

Thankfully, Peet's eventually made its way to Hillcrest and this is a really cool location.   Come experience the Dutch magic...

I go out of my way to get Peet's. I'm all about their medium mocha. Rich and complex and only a little sweet. Oh, and their fruit and nut scones are delicious. Parking is a pain in the ass. Usually best across University on weekday mornings. And they need a bathroom token scheme; right now there's a sketchy looking key-attached-to-a-coffee-filter that makes the germophobe in me want to just pee somewhere else later. But my favorite coffee in San Diego, hands down.

I have to say that when I went to Peet's, I didn't think I was going to sip on the mighty kicky mocha I ended up guzzling down.  Wow, do I love muscular coffee and this cup did the trick; at 5pm I was ready to go through the day all over again.  And the jolt came with taste: lovely combo.

There's no better coffee in the world. Unless you go to the coffee fields yourself. I got turned onto these guys up in San Francisco in '96 and I've never looked back. They know coffee. The're passionate about it. More than any other coffee house. And it shows. Coffee so rich and complex you can stick a spoon in your cup and have it stand straight up... well, not really, but you get the idea.

i love peet's some days and hate it some others.  if your in a hurry this peet's can be a pain in the ass.  parking can be nonexistent a lot of the times.  then when you do luck out and get an easy spot you walk in and find a nice long line with like two people working.  their straight up drip is a purty damn good cup of joe though so i keep going back.  although i would like to request that a couple of the hipster dudes that work there stop being such dopey asses all the time and put on a smile.  your style and act is a little old at this point.  the ladies that work there are always pleasant, maybe you could take a clue from them on how to treat customers guys.  just sayin....

always a solid product at peet's.  they brew a stiff cup of coffee, dark and rich and full of heady oils that make it look like someone dropped in a pat of butter.  be prepared for the sweats and then you'll wake up six months later and realize that you are a junkie.  don't try to quit cold-turkey or you will end up dopesick sucking on coffee beans.
