Greek as good as it gets is perfect...The eggplant salata the paythakia and shrimp styfatho out of this world...Tha service very friendly and helpfull...

My 6 friends and me entered without reservation at 8pm last Friday and they made room immediadly including the other 6 customers already in the restaurant.  We asked for a platter of meze and the chef included vegan spanakopita and dolmathes for two of our friends who are vegan...

The entrees where fantastic, Vegan mousaka and the whole wheat spaghetti with baby octopus sauce out of this world.  we had a great time trying each others dinners...  We finished our night with a dessert wine and galaktobouriko, i know how to spell it but do not ask me to pronounce.  The wine was from Samos Island and the galaktobouriko was made with organic whole wheat fyllo, milk...Lemon custard in whole wheat fyllo...HEAVEN!

The chef and staff are there to make your night to remember...

A terrific restaurant all around, not least because of the helpful and cheerful personality of its owner/chef, Eleni Ponirakis Henry. Everything is fresh, everything that can be is organic, and everything tastes wonderful. Eleni sells a few things by the pound; when I was there recently, I bought some sheep's milk feta and some hummous, and both were outstanding. True, the place is almost impossibly small. All in all a welcome addition to the handful of Greek restaurants in Ballard/Greenwood, and very much worth a visit.

Saturday- my friend and I really really really wanted Greek food but Taki's Mad Greek was closed for a private party so we ended up at Kouzina's. I had driven past it before but had never gone in- I'm thinking "Greek is Greek, right?" Wrong. The restaurant itself is very very tiny. Only three tables in the whole joint, but we were the only two in there, so that was cool. The waiter was scattered to say the least. It took him 5 minutes to bring us menus, another 10 minutes to take our orders, and when I asked for a glass of the white wine recommend on the menu to pair with saganaki, he brings me a glass of red. My friend asked him to recommend a good red wine and he comes out 5 minutes later with a bottle of Chardonnay in hand. Hm. Ok. I guess.
The saganaki was thinly sliced green apples covered in a parmesan-tasting cheese served flaming at the table. That was pretty good except (I believe) due to the microwaving of the entire appetizer before they presented it a flambe, so the cheese hardened very quickly. She got the hummus platter which was served on a  large platter w/ whole wheat pita triangles, a dollop each of hummus, cold mashed eggplant, and a garlic mush.  I myself am loathe to eat anything containing chick peas or eggplant, so, tried the garlic stuff which was ok but not really garlicky. When we get our chicken souvlaki, it came as a single skewer of chicken covered in tzatziki  sauce on yet another pita. It was just ok.  Not lemony and quite dry. The Greek lemony chicken soup which I will not even attempt to spell, was a little oily and way chunkier than I've had it elsewhere. After a few spoonfuls it got pushed to the side, and the Greek potatoes we were both so looking forward to were extremely bland fried home-fry type potatoes. We doused ours in salt to get any flavor out of them at all. The only upside was listening to the couple who came in shortly after us tell the waiter they wanted "vegetarian" dishes, they had to have "vegetarian" this and "vegetarian" that. So they split an order of calamari bites. Friend and I could barely contain the laughter- "I didn't know SQUID was a vegetable, did you?" Overpriced, unappetizing food and bizzarro staff. Thanks but no thanks, Kouzina!

Great fresh food in a cozy friendly neighborhood restaurant.  The people are friendly and generous.  The lamb is especially delicious.

Kouzina's has a fresh, ever-changing daily menu of tasty Greek nibbles and meals.  If you can catch them while they're open (limited hours) and can squeeze into the itty-bitty space, it is well worth planning to visit.  Wines are suggested with every dish and in spite of the crowded dining area, there is no rush to have customers leave.
I loved the personal attention given by the servers and cooks. It felt like eating in my family's kitchen.

Kouzina has recently expanded their hours to include the lunch hour, so Greenwood has another choice for an inexpensive and healthy lunch!  They have these cute little box lunches that you can order to go.

Disappointed - Maybe Not
OK so we were searching again for the great Greek place and I happen to come across this on the urban spoon site and found some reviews here as well. Since it received high marks I decided to give try. BTW unless I missed some the reviews about how small it was I was some what surprised. OK so getting back to the experience. So I called ahead to see if I needed a reservation between 6:45 and 7:00. I was informed not reservation needed since that was a slow time. So I arrive there around 7:10 just a little late and was surprised as to the number of places to sit. 2 tables that could seat 4 people and 1 for two.  The place was packed go figure. The chef/owner apologized but off erred no consolation to my hunger for Greek food. So I quickly replied in a joking tone of voice that we should get special deal when we came back. She responded and said yes of course. Having my heart set on Greek food I asked when she thought we could be seated and she replied about 45 minutes. We then proceeded over to the the Pig N Whistle and had some drinks to pass the time. As we waited a couple form the restaurant stopped in and told us our table was ready. I was really surprised again how great people really are. So I promptly closed our tab and we rushed over and were seated immediately. Well the adventure continued. The waiter apparently had an emergency and had to leave. This left the chef to act as the wait staff and cook. OK as we were deciding to have our food the other patrons were waiting for Thieu's. Apparently one of the table the people were going to a show and had been waiting for their diner for a while they ended up taking it to go and she apparently did not charge them for the food. Great deal on the one hand but It had us wondering if this was really worth it. The other table received their food and it looked delicious. So after looking at the menu we decided on our main meal but had a dilemma on what to have as an appetizer. We really wanted hummus and grape leaves but it was not offered ala-carte or as a combo. I asked our chef / waiter if it would be possible to get this and she responded no problem. We received our appetizer and thought it was great. The rest of the meal was extremely good. We also had some Greek wine that really hit the spot. It was an adventure to say the least but in the end it was well worth the effort. I plan on going back soon but I will make the reservation. So go and try this place and be prepared to have some great food and a great chef who works hard to please here customers
