i don't really care for waffles so when I came here with a bunch of friends after lunch I decided to pass. As soon as they received their orders, btw, it didn't take long, they insisted I try it. OMG, they were amazing! warm and crispy and the strawberries and whip cream complimented it perfectly. Ever since then, I crave it every now and then. I'm sure this is a much healthier choice than Beard Papas across the street.
was eating across the street on monday at curry house. Wanted to stop by and check out the place but it was closed.

ITS CLOSED!!!! My boyfriend and I tried to go there this morning but its no longer there. Instead we had to go to a crepe place around the corner but that didn't satisfy our craving for some good waffles.
I love babyblonde. When I went with my friend, we had no idea what to expect. I'd only really read good reviews, and now we both know why!
The selection of flavors is perfect, whether you've got a sweet tooth or are just hankerin' for a tasty snack. You can get toppings like berries, which I chose, or whipped cream. The portions are perfect, great for a dessert or snackie.
To top it off, the pictures on the walls are adorable, little cartoony signs. The staff was super chill and nice. Even though parking is kinda lame around there, it's definitely worth the trip.
I'm from chicago but was in LA for a wedding. My friend's gf suggested we try this place which happened to be right around the corner from a pinkberry. I hadn't tried either but was in the mood for something warmer than just frozen yogurt.
Had the original waffle with vanilla ice cream and nutella on top...it was really good actually. My friend the apple caramel one which was pretty good as well. I looked over at another table and this couple had ones with fresh fruit all over them which made me curious but i was too full from lunch to try more waffles. :(
This location seems to be cursed with short shop lifespan...but blessed with wonderful interior decorators.
Relaxation had lots of tables considering the small space,
the boba place after it painted the walls vibrant, funky colors,
Catch 22 had a giant chalk wall with menu items and daily specials,
and now babyblonde has bright yellow walls with backlit anime characters eating - you guessed it - babyblonde waffles.
It reminds me of cafes in Korea, small, unassuming, attentive to customer service. I came here with my roommate - who never finishes a meal in one...two...five...fifteen sittings - and she finished the whole thing. It was that good.
The combos are cheap and easy, and the people behind the counter were very nice about customizing our orders (all fruit for me, all nutella and whip for the roomie) even when we stood and deliberated while she was on the phone. The waffles themselves are crispy, crunchy, warm...probably why it takes 5-10 minutes for each order, but they come in a little dish so you can easily take it to go. At $5 for 2 waffles, fruit, and sauces, it was a pretty good deal compared to $6 for a Pinkberry, $5 for a cupcake, $4 for gelato, $3 for boba.

Great new concept...had these on recommendation from friends in the area. They make small waffles, about 4 big bites takes one down...had the 2 waffle combo...banana walnut was great with nutella and whipped cream on top. They have these pearl sugar cubes they put in the mix before cooking them that makes the waffles extra sweet and crunchy...a nice touch. It makes for a nice, light breakfast or a light, sweet late night snack. Had a mango freeze which was tasty as well. Kinda similar concept to Beard Papa/Pinkberry in the area but would rather have this. Would return when I return to LA.

Edit...added a space in the name of the place and ended up making a separate entry...my bad!
Edit #2: The owners here do pay close attention to customer feedback, so they're getting another star from me. Hopefully I'll be able to return at some point and start anew.

New dessert waffle joint that just opened up on Sawtelle strip. At first blush it seems a replica of the pinkberry concept but with waffles instead of froyo. As it's a brand new place, I'll stick to making some suggestions.
- Keep hunting down better and better fruit suppliers...with better fruit, that may be reason enough to get people in the door. It's one of the keys to Pinkberry's success.
- Differentiate the waffles beyond marketing claims. Belgian Sugar and Madagascar Vanilla don't mean a whole lot unless folks can tell a difference in the waffle itself. I'd suggest taking a page from the Vietnamese playbook...Pandan makes the Vietnamese waffle something worth seeking out on its own. If there was something to specifically separate out a baby blonde waffle from the rest, you'd have a winner.
- Replace the chocolate syrup with either melted chocolate or a ganache. Taking a bite and thinking, "hey, it's hershey's chocolate syrup!" is only a good thing if you're nostalgic for the stuff.
- Perhaps the whipped cream is another area of opportunity? Right now it's common Redi-whip, but maybe they could have some uniquely flavored daily whipped creams?
In any case, I hope that with some time and tweaks they'll be able to create a fine waffle....as of right now however, it's nothing to get excited about unless you've chatted with Chris Hansen. Hopefully, things will improve and I'll be able to update this review. Good luck!

A wise man once told me to never order dessert at the same place I eat dinner because more often than not, the dessert was just heated up in a microwave and then plated. Now I don't know if that's true or not, but I do have tons of restaurants I like to dine at on Sawtelle, and I'm glad I have a new place to enjoy my dessert afterwards!
I ordered the combo, which came with 2 original waffles and 2 choices of fruit. I had mine with mango and banana, with a drizzle of nutella and some whipped cream on top. While I wish my mangos were a little bit sweeter, the waffles overall were quite delicious. Plus, the waffles have already been cut into small pieces so I don't have to deal with cutting them myself!
I will definitely come back again.
Edit 7/28/07: I went back last week, and this time I had a caramel apple waffle. Can I just say YUM? It's a smallish-sized waffle, which is fine with me because then I can lie to myself and say it doesn't really count as eating anything. Small, but still full of flavor, and I loved the caramel sauce on there, which got all over my hands because I'm a messy eater.

Heat, pressure & time makes diamonds.
Heat, pressure & time also makes Babyblonde waffles.
These waffles are precious -_-.

I hope this business much success because their waffles are really great. I suggest you try the caramel apple. Please please please avoid Pinkberry around the corner and come here. Your tastebuds will thank you.

As a HUGE fan of both waffles and whipped cream, I had great expectations for Babyblonde, but didn't think they hit the spot as much as they could have. The focus seems to be more on the toppings rather than the waffle batter itself. It's a cute place and the portions are thoughtfully compact, so it's worth a stop in if you're in the neighborhood. But If I'm really hankering something warm and sweet, 9 times out of 10 it's going to be for the Beard Papa's across the street.
I am generally put off by any restaurant/food-serving place whose name reminds me of hair (see also Rubio's), but these waffles are delicious! I got the combo (two original waffles) with strawberries, bananas and whipped cream.
Expect to wait at least 5 minutes for your food. The waffles are cooked to order. It's a pain in the ass, but that's the price you have to pay (other than the ~$5) for having a warm sweet waffle in your mouf.

I thought this place was an amazing little find. After eating at one of the many amazing asian places on sawtelle, off of Olympic I love getting a little something sweet. i got the original and I fell in love on the first bite. Not too sweet, great texture and the perfect size after a big lunch.
so the location I know closed. Very sad.

I give it 5 stars and I haven't tried it yet. HAHA....cause i know it'll be good based on what I've heard. Will be in town this weekend to eat a whole lot of babyblond waffles......then its off to the gym!
DEEEEELICIOSO! Bring it to Chicago!

i'm a very simple girl, therefore i ordered the original waffle, which was perfectly toasted, crunchy, and smelled like sweet cake. they cut my waffles into little pieces, and drizzled them with nutella, all in a little plastic bowl. YUM!

I love the waffles here. You can feel tiny sugar crystals embedded in the thing as you chomp it down and I think they have a great recipe for the batter. But:
1) They're too frickin' small! I can eat an entire waffle in less than three bites.
2) The toppings are sparse. If you've ever been to Paris and sampled one of the Nutella covered waffles they sell on the street you know what I'm talking about. We want more Nutella! Adding some other creative toppings other than various incarnations of chocolate sauce and fruit might be fun as well. Why not combine a warm, soft waffle with something textured or crispy?
3) Service is somewhat slow. Does it really take that long to cut up a waffle? Probably not.
4) Not sure if the price is justifiable. The combo is okay at $5 per two waffles, but the individual prices are sort of high. Compared with Beard Papa's new prices though, I guess it makes sense.
I keep coming back here because it's conveniently located by some of my favorite restaurants, but I'd probably never go out of my way for a Babyblonde waffle.

Babyblonde just opened last month on Sawtelle. These waffles are tasty! They're not huge like the kind you'd get for brunch at a restaurant, so it's a good place to go for dessert after dinner. You can get your waffle topped with fruit, chocolate and whipped cream. I waited a bit longer since they were busy but it was worth it.

I live in the area and saw this place a few times and decided to skip out on Beard Papa's cream puffs to give this place a try. I went in and had the Banana Nut waffle. I have to tell you, I haven't had a dessert (I call it a dessert, you may not) this good in a long time! Please please please support this place because it's a little gem of a restaurant that I do not want to see it go belly up! If you're looking for something pleasantly different, please give it a try. I plan to try all the other flavors.

Well, after a fairly disappointing dinner at Curry House, we decided to go to Baby Blonde right across the street. As intriguing as tiny waffles with fruit & nutella sounds, they were pretty meh. They sat in my stomach like lead & ultimately, I wish I had gone to the pinkberry just around the corner.
Fricken tasty, but small. Nice flavors and toppings, but a little wait for each waffle to cook. The combo is a good deal and I tried the Strawberry freeze which tasted like a Strawberry Julius. A nice change from Pinkberry down the street. More for your palate, than your stomach. Japanese style portions, haha.

Cute, tiny, just my size waffles! Got the original with nutella and whipped cream... Fabulous! I just need to remember to tell them I want a MOUNTAIN of whipped cream next time. If I wasn't about to explode from my dinner I probably would have been able to enjoy it even more.

I like this place. It's cute, good waffles, good concept, friendly owners.. The only thing I would improve on is the interior design of the place. I'd go back, but I give it 3 stars cuz I've only had their waffles once.

The place is cute but the waffles are just okay.
I liked the caramel apple one the best. The others were alright.
I would only go back if a friend wanted to try it.
Babyblonde's waffles are an attempt, in my opinion, to emulate Belgian Liege-style waffles.. that is, small, large-pocketed pastries you enjoy sans syrup, fork and knife. A small excerpt from their website states "The recipe uses fine ingredients including imported Belgian pearl sugar..." So I was excited to get a taste of something that could resemble the amazing waffles I had in Brussels.
Cinnamon Waffle [ 2 stars ]
------------------------
In a real Belgian waffle a caramelized crust encases a soft, almost gooey filling [check my photos to see the real thing]. This tiny waffle fell short of creating that delectable dichotomy by being a bit overcooked and simply plain. It could've been worse and I commend them for attempting to bring something new and different to Los Angeles, though I doubt I'll be returning.
---
Service [ 5 stars ]
----------
They were very nice and helpful. The baker of the waffles even tried to help with my parking validation.
Atmosphere [ 3 stars ]
-----------------
Nothing special, though it was clean and the tables had an interesting pattern. Adorning the walls were prints of bright-eyed anime characters clutching waffles which brought a smile to our otherwise unsatisfied faces.
Would I recommend it?
No. It's over-priced for what it is. I've heard Le Pain Quotidien and EuroStation Waffles both create their versions of the Belgian waffle though I have yet to try them.

So how do you mess up super tasty waffles, where banana nut tastes banana nutty, strawberry tastes indeed like strawberries or at least the combination of synthetic compounds we've been trained to think of as strawberry, where cinnamon has that churro-like thing going on, and caramel apple is studded with soft apple bits under the dripping caramel?
How do you mess this up? You size them about 3 inches in diameter, take 5 to 10 minutes to make it, and charge $1.85. That's how. And $5 for the drink to go with it.
Seriously, they were really yummy, but I ain't paying that for something I shove in my mouth in one go.

these little waffles are a real good way to top off some sushi on sawtelle.
these are wafflely good, but I don't think the nutella was really nutella (anyone?) regardless, worth stopping by.

With the first bite, these waffles tasted pretty good. The portions were small (teeny-tiny), so after the first bite we were pretty much done, so I can't say how it tasted after that. It is way overpriced for what it is.
Afterwards, I wanted to go to the store to get some Eggo's, so I guess babyblonde is reviving my frozen food breakfast kick which will finally get me off this protein oatmeal kick. I give it some additional kudos for that.
my friends had the combo special of 2 original waffles, with strawberries and bluberries and nutella on the side. hard to beat that for an after dinner snack.

not bad! came here for the grand opening party and if they only had ice cream here with the waffles, i would give it 5 stars. their mango and strawberry freezes are great - not too sweet. i had the combo special of 2 original waffles, with strawberries and bluberries and nutella on the side. it was a good dessert for a sunday afternoon.

i like to have little bits of dessert so i like it that the portions are not that big. and its roughly $2 so its a good deal.
i like the chocolate chip waffle with chocolate sauce.
or the reguar with strawberries an whipped cream.
you can't really go wrong with waffles. its kinda crunchy, not soft and mushy like the breakfast...

I went in last night after dinner and noticed they have ice cream now. So i ordered the banana nut waffle topped with whipped cream and nuttella. this combo was DELISH!. definately something that hit the spot with it's warm/cold contrast.
************************************
edit 06/15/07 i just went there today and tried the other flavors.strawberry and chocolate delish! they're good by themselves.
yummers!.
caramel apple was amazing. not too sweet and just the right amount of crisp. it actually had real apple bits in the batter. it's made to order so you do have to wait a lil bit to get your waffles fresh. and i was kinda getting anxious with the wait , but i noticed they were training the staff there so that's ok for now.
i know some other other post complained about the price but have you guys tried alternative deserts? these boutique cupcakes range from 3-4 dollars per cupcake plus the 1.85 for a waffle is comparable to a cost of a donut and cream puff. and the fruit freezes are comparable to any smoothie at like jamba juice.
