Auction house gave my item to another customer and refunded my money without asking me what I wanted to do. For all I know, they found out that the item I won is EXTREMELY rare, Extremely Valuable, compared to what they refunded me. They also refunded my money on another item without communication. I called several times of the number on proxibid, emailed a question when they sent me a bill, the email came back to me. If you ask me, horrible service, never again to Dixons! NEVER Again

I would avoid using them. Called upon them to sell home contents that were in storage. Very slow to respond and made virtually nothing on online auction.

Let me start by saying if I could could give them zero stars I would. If i were you I would stay FAR away from this awful company. They are nothing but liars and cheats!
We purchased quite a few items from Dixon's Auctions online and had the items shipped to us in California. We called them multiple times before hand to make sure that they knew how to pack these items correctly and safely to make sure nothing would be damaged on its long journey to us.
They assured us that they knew what they were doing and that everything would be fine. This was a HUGE Lie on there part. I have NEVER seen a worse packing job in my entire life. After receiving our items almost everything we received was BROKEN! NOTHING and I mean NOTHING was even remotely packed properly. We spent a lot of money and were very disappointed that not only did they lie to us about their packing skills, the refuse to acknowledge their mistakes!
After several phone calls and emails regarding the situation NO one will help us or even acknowledge that they did something wrong. After the first day of talking to them we were told to send photos of our damaged items to their email. After we did we were ghosted completely! We have emailed, called and left voice mails multiple times and not one single person can even give us the decency to answer us!
By far the WORST Customer Service I have ever come across. This business is as UNPROFESSIONAL as they come. They are SNAKES! They will say and do anything they can to get you to purchase your items just for them to take your money and SCREW you over in the end.
BUYER BEWARE. Don't let them fool you like they did US!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Denise C.Richmond, VA313Mar 2, 2019
I've participated in Dixon's online auctions for several years and have found the process to be well organized. For a buyer, they are a GREAT resource for furniture, vintage items, collectibles, etc. I've purchased some amazing things from solid wood, handmade Clore furniture, vintage cast iron (very collectible) cast iron pans to antique Persian area rugs, craft items, etc. If you know what you're looking for and are knowledgeable about the value of the items you're interested in, Dixon's is a wonderful experience! Even if you're not an expert and you bid on something that you like, you won't be disappointed.
As for the people, I find them extremely helpful and easy to work with. Ed, Billy, Bruce and Ian are great!. Now that they have opened their location at Virginia Center Commons, the previews for their weekly in-house online auctions are even better. One thing that also sets Dixon's apart from some of the other auction houses is that they have staff available who will help carry and load items.
For sellers, any kind of auction can be difficult emotionally. As someone who has "cleaned out" my elderly parent's home, the things that we/our parents value don't carry that same value for others. Consequently, you can't expect the "antique" desk that your mother treasured to be purchased for big $$. If it's that valuable to your family, KEEP IT! Or at the very least, establish an auction minimum for the item. That being said, I have regularly seen truly valuable antiques and fine, handcrafted furniture bring high prices at a Dixon auction. Collectors/folks who appreciate those items regularly preview their auctions so if your item is a standout , it will be noticed by the experts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Debbie G.Rockville, VA02Mar 11, 2020
This was a great find for us. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. Lots of good stuff and again, everyone there is good at what they do. Everyone should check them out!!!!

I was recommended to use them to sell my expensive dining set by the moving company we used. BIG mistake. My $5000 fairly new dining set and solid cherry Lexington cocktail table were picked up by Dixon's. After that it was 7 weeks of no good communication from them at all. I had to contact the person who recommended them to get a reasonable response. Finally got a check for my items, $205. REALLY!!?? If you are buying from them, you clearly get a steal, BUT, DO NOT TRUST THEM TO GET GOOD $$ FOR YOUR NICE ITEMS!!!!!! Would never use them again to sell anything of value. The hassle of Craigslist or consignment at a fixed price would be much better!!!

My husband and I buy from here frequently. Payment is automatically taken once auction closes. The pick up has been a breeze from the Powhatan location and the Midlothian location off the turnpike.

I guess Dixon maybe OK for one or a few items but they are very disorganized for a large numbers of items. I dealt with them twice and will never again put myself thru the agony of dealing with this company. Here are the issues that I experienced: 1. First time, After many messages and calls, it took them close to 6 month for them to find our papers and mail the check. 2. After subtracting their pickup fee of $130 Plus, the remainder is not worth the hassle. 3. You may think, your new un-used items such as $1300 movie room leather chair will bring you at least a $100-$200, but a $7 return, will disappoint you. 4. on 2nd much larger transaction, 1/3 of our items were missing from their auction & after so many emails and messages we gave up on ever getting our money back. 5. Don't ever ask them for their address & that you want to stop by to discuss an issue.. we made this mistake and next the owner called screaming at wife. 6. Give things to charity, which provides both tax relief and personal satisfaction such as Veritas which uses the items for families who are in need of furniture.

Can not recommend them for selling your items. Our initial experience with Dixon's was great for our move from northern VA. More recently though, we have only been compensated for about half the items that were sold and are not getting our calls returned. They still have two items that have not been sold and are being held for a 'future collectibles ' auction. We are not sure that we will ever see those items being sold or be compensated for them. We are very disappointed in their lack of professionalism.

After purchasing things from 4-5 of their auctions, I had to stop using them...their markup is 18% over purchase price (+ sales tax for non-dealers) and their competitors mainly charge 15%. Their items were not any better than their competitors, and as they're located a lot farther out AND they tend to be more expensive due to their seller's premium, I had to stop using them.
