Perfect meal: tomato and mozzarella salad, made tableside, mac and cheese (so, so good) , truffle burger, fries, and banana foster. Amazing.

It's always difficult writing the gazillionth review of a highly rated place, because typically you won't have anything valuable to add except a reinforcing 4-5 star rating, or (more likely) expressing disappointment in how over-hyped a restaurant really is. Fortunately, Bix is the former.
What I would like to add is HOLY CRAP, the Tomato Cart is amazing, and the desserts (try the banana foster and chocolate pudding cake) are pretty b-o-m-b as well. It's cool that they prepare the heirloom tomato mozzarella cheese dish table-side, as well as the steak tartare (American food Benihana style? So ofcourse parents loved it). Pass on the oysters, meh. Also, I don't remember the last time I was served tap water that was filtered at a restaurant. No yucky bleach aftertaste!
As for the main dishes, they were solid but nothing life changing. The halibut was served over a bed of overly sweet corn and beans, the kobe beef was prepared well but came out luke warm and didn't taste orgasmic like kobe is supposed to, and the lamb was kinda small but executed well like the kobe. All of which however, were very affordable about $28-36 per dish. They'll get you with the $15 appetizers though.
I'd love to come back on Thursdays for live music, happy hour and some good appetizers n desserts. My recommendation, come in on Sundays when parking is actually EASY in SF and they have flexible dining hours.

Great restaurant, overall.
The atmosphere here is very classy, with servers in white tux tops walking around - - it makes you feel like you're dining in a fancy restaurant back in the 20's (or 30's? 40's? I dunno my eras). Once I entered, I felt overwhelming regret for not having worn a bright red flapper dress w/ slinky little hat - and smoke out of a long pipe and let loose in the middle of the place. At various points through the night, there is live jazz music, and altogether, the place just rocks. Ambience-wise, BIX is awesome - - perfect for a business dinner, or a nice date. The place is a bit too stuffy for what I would call an "outing w/ friends" - and it's a bit too pricey for something casual.
Although this place is primarily a restaurant, I noticed on this evening @ 8 pm, the bar was full of people who were not waiting for tables but simply enjoying their Happy Hour. It's not quite the spot I would have picked for a Happy Hour, but it was a good crowd - and the drinks were good. That said, our party of our had arrived early in order to get drinks at the bar while we waited, because we saw through their website that there was a fancy long bar at which to wait.
While our reservation was initially for 8:30 pm, the host came by at precisely 8 pm to inquire if we'd like to be seated now. We took him up on it, and were led by the hostess to a "booth" - very roomy, the lighting was beautiful - - again, transporting you to a different era. Our party was for four people - - and it was an intimate, rather romantic setting. This is the type of restaurant where it'd be fun to get two couples together, get fabulously dressed up and dine out before spending the rest of the evening painting the town red. The seats themselves were perhaps a bit "denny-esque" but the whole setup just kind of works. The ceilings are beautiful, and the setup with a whole slew of diners sitting upstairs with another bunch all seated downstairs - - it's absolutely classic and reminiscent of days long gone-by.... days before I even came into existence, but what I envision to be "dining out" back in the early 20th century.
The menu is very vast and based on just the hors d'oeuvres and starters - there were some 20 items to choose from. We opted for the caprese w/ heirloom tomatoes and homemade mozzarella "cart" (which they actually serve to you from a cart), the crispy fried shrimp, crab cakes (which were actually crab filled mini-sandwiches),and tuna tartare served w/ toasted olive bread. The latter was QUITE delicious, the others were all pretty good, except the fried shrimp was overfried in my opinion and not all that impressive. There was NOTHING special about the caprese, though.
For our entrees, one of us opted for the halibut, which I didn't try this evening. The rest of us had the rack of lamb (which was OK), the pork chops (which was perhaps the best of the 3 dishes I tried), and the scallops, which were cooked nicely but I didn't think there was anything special about the dish, in spite of it being the evening's special. Many of these choices were suggestions made by our server on what is best at BIX....
Service was mixed.
Our server was a friendly and jovial but often too busy, and too scattered. What he lacked for in time or attention, he made up for in being polite and fun, though, so it breaks even.
The wine list was good.
We picked a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir on this evening (which has been my slight to moderate OBSESSION these days) - - decently priced at $60+, and it tasted wonderful. Between the four of us, we finished 2 bottles of that, 4 scotch on the rocks, and one dessert Muscat which I did not like at all. We also ordered a cheese plate (decent, at best), and 2 desserts. One was a strawberry tart that tasted better than it looked, as it was presented looking like it was a rock off of some unknown planet out there with a dollop of strawberry ice cream on top. The other dessert was the Bananas Foster w/ Rum and Vanilla Ice Cream, which was the hit of the evening as it was as decadent as anything I've ever tried. Delicious.
The total bill was $440, not including the tip. (Including tip, it went over $500.)
While rather pricey for four people, keep in mind there were two bottles of $60+ wine, and quite a bit of food.
On the food-front, contrary to what most of the other reviewers have stated, I found BIX to be just "good". Compared to some of the other establishments in San Francisco, in spite of who the chef is, what experiences he has, or which amazing restaurants he has been a part of, I found nothing altogether special about the food - and on the whole, I give it 3.5 stars for the food. Good - just not special.
Combined w/ the unbeatable ambience - BIX earns 4 stars total nonetheless. I just can't say it was all about the food. There's better food out there in SF - - but not with this type of a historical feel.

Strolling down a dark back alley a glowing blue sign reading "BIX" beckons one towards a simple brick facade with little candle lit tables and chairs perched out front. Stepping through the heavy dark doors, one steps back in time to an era where cold champagne accompanies hot jazz in luxurious digs with delicious food. My husband and I settled into a cozy booth for his birthday dinner and gazed out upon the lengthy mirror backed bar under a beautiful mural. Beside us an elderly man played jazz on a grand piano. The white tuxedoed waiters were attentive, informative and ready to give suggestions on what we must try. My husband had the ceviche appetizer which may have been my favorite item we tried with its lime sauce, avocado and bit of crunchy nuts atop it. He followed this with the Kobe steak which he said met all his wildest dreams. I somehow managed to order an entire meal that I could eat with my hands starting with "truffled cheese croques" which amounts to the tastiest mini grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had, and that I followed with mini lamb burgers and truffled french fries. Oh...and somewhere in there I had a ginger gimlet which was a delight, though not as gingery as I had hoped. Still, all were a delight! We wrapped up the meal with the banana foster which was both decadent and the perfect blend of hot and cold. mmmm...good. It came with a classy birthday card and candles too...and I didn't even remind them of my husbands birthday after including the info on a note with my opentable.com reservation.
Thank you BIX, for taking us back in time to another world both romantic and filled with the trappings of an era that has passed but is somehow kept alive in this hidden alley in the heart of SF.
Cool location. Cool design and atmosphere. The food was excellent. I had the fillet (medium), ceaser salad and creme brule. Everything was good, but the steak was memorable. I've eaten steak at a bunch if different places in the city and this one definitely ranks near the top.
So why only 4 stars, you ask? Because, there is always room for improvement and in this case it was the matrede (host) and manger. The wait staff was polite and attentive, but the two knuckle heads running the place were rude and flip about our reservation. We were there for my bachelor party and a friend of mine had gone to great lengths to set-up the reservation for 13 people with a pre-fix menu and everything.
This isn't the damn DMV, it's well known SF restaurant. You would think that the manger and materde would be more polite to a party that is about to drop $1200. But nope. They had our reservation wrong, so we waited. Then we came back when we were told and we still had to wait. All in all, about 45minutes. The materde acted like this was our fault and the manager did nothing to compensate for our inconvenience. But he did shrug his shoulders.
Go on a weeknight when it's not crowded or when the materde isn't on his period. Despite all that, the food was worth it all.

a retro chic space with loads of history. pull up a chair at the bar and be a part of it.
set on gold street, this place was a gold/money exchange place during the gold rush. now, the exchange was for a glass of vino and liquor for a swipe of plastic.
the clientale is more mature and the service is impeccable.
i can't add any more than the other hundreds of reviews except, it's a cool place to hang out, drink, and grab an intimate bite.
i won't spoil the surprise but on occasion, a magician shows up and the secret lies above.

But make no mistake, this is an excellent restaurant with amazing dishes, great service and classy (I hardly use this word) atmosphere.
A classy place. My friends and I came here only for drinks. So this is not a true review of the place. The atmosphere was good, but we came late at night, so it was not too lively. Drinks good, but pricey.
My friend spend $200 plus on dinner and drinks for new year's eve here. So it is not cheap here!
Awesome food. Impeccable cocktails. Near perfect service (Stu is fantastic!). Super cool ambience. All that's missing is Bogart sipping a martini downstairs. This is on my short list of favorite places, period.
I rarely say that any restaurant gets top honors, but i must say Bix is best!... or at least one of the best. I am a staunch believer that great food is best when paired with great company and great service. And the service here was SUPERB. We got there on time but the tables were a bit backed up. The maitre D profusely apologized and offered a round of drinks from the bar on the house. We were in no rush and enjoying our conversation with friends. Never did complain or even seem annoyed by the wait and still to top it off he brought us a Tuna carpaccio appetizer on the house when we were seated.
The food was excellent! The tomato cart was outstandingly fresh, the grilled calamari delicious, and the oysters magnifique!
Our waiter had great knowledge about each dish, and was great when asked for recommendations. Entrees like the lobster spaghetti, full large chunks of lobster in a creamy sauce, and the pork chops cooked just right were all excellent.
To top off the night we shared some chocolate brioche bread pudding that was tasty as well.
Again I can rave enough about the service! Try Bix for a special dinner or just come for some classic cocktails, you won't be disappointed!
Interesting mix of people and great place to mingle after a long day at the office. Sophisticated and friendly with a wicked dirty martini. Bottoms up!
I've only been here twice and that's because I'm usually broke. One of my co-workers also pulled bar shifts at Bix so they comped me a couple of appetizers including potato pillows and something else I can't remember that involved caviar and Crme frache.
Anyhoo, you can't go wrong here. It's a classy environment that harkens back to the good old days of San Francisco. It attracts a good crowd and not too many tourists. The service is attentive and friendly but not obnoxiously smothering. They serve up some of the best comfort food around.
If I really like a girl, I take her to Bix. Is there really a better endorsement than that?

So servers have off nights. I remember my off nights, and I cringe. I understand. As off as your night might be however, it's unclear to me how giving me attitude is going to help. And not even the straightforward in-your-face-I-hate-you attitude, which I prefer. More of the you' re-not-really-worth-serving-especially-if- you-don't-like-caviar attitude, which can ruin a good meal. Even a meal of a truffle burger that was absolutely perfect. I wore a black dress. I shaved my legs. I saved money for you. I pretended to like you and your swanky restaurant. Why can't you pretend to like me?

Off the beaten path, down a hidden brick alley on Gold Street, Bix stands as a San Francisco icon, a reminder of better times and a different era, back before the days of grunge and dot com when dress and decorum still meant something. (hey, that sounds pretty good...I missed my calling in life...LOL)
I have been coming here since it first opened back in '90. For the first three or four years, I was a total regular hitting it several nights a week until my job changed and I no longer worked downtown. On a recent visit, I was extremely happy to see that unlike many others from that time, the restaurant has weathered the years well and is still first rate.
I've always joked that if you look up at the ceiling when having a drink at the bar, it looks like the original Poseidon adventure. :) The Robert Stock paintings (I think that's the artist's name) are still not to my taste, but I have gotten used to them over the years. I think the main one is titled "The Butler's in Love" To this day, I still find the one in the back of the clown kissing the ballerina disturbing.
The food here is first rate. I tend to stick to the traditional dishes which fit the mood of the place...you can't go wrong with steak here. I only wish that smoked salmon was still on the menu (Like in the Pixar film Cars, a hippie bus named Fillmore used to say, "Respect the classics, man!!!") like the olden days and that the foie gras was seared instead.
Prices have gone up considerably over the years too (like all places), but like Ferris Bueller said..."if you have the means, they are so choice"
I love Bix, may it become a landmark for many generations to come.
Interesting trivia...I have been told on more than one occasion while drinking there that in a former incarnation, the historic building once housed a trapeze act which swung above patrons as they drank. Pretty darn cool! Here's to good food and drink in the rare ambience of a far gone era.
Lastly, I was disappointed that I did not see Brad the last few times I was here, but am hoping that it was his day off. He has been a symbol of bartending excellence and professionalism there since day one, his service over the years helping to make the place what it is today. Truly an asset and a rare breed in this day and age.
A cool, classy place. I went here in a party of eight for a friend's birthday. I came early, sat at the bar, and enjoyed a nice glass of Riesling (pricey at $11, but I we're paying more for the classy decor, the pretty people, and the piano and vocal duet).
The entire party showed up on-time at 8:30PM on a Thursday night, but we weren't seated until around 9:00PM. The staff confessed to the mis-management with the tables, which was fine by us. Once we were seated we were given delicious appetizers on the house.
Food was very good, with some notable exceptions going both ways. The oysters were very fresh, my kobe steak was cooked just perfectly at medium-rare, and the arugula salad won universal approval with great greens and wonderful fruit.
On the flip side, the one vegetarian in our group pretty much got shafted. There wasn't a single veggie entree on the menu. After asking the waiter for a vegetarian option, my friend was promised a "special dish" prepared by the chef that was served "all the time to vegetarian customers." What he got was a plate composed of all of the vegetable sides from all the other entrees. Ultra-lame.
Service was good, though our waiter alternated between treating us as if we were first-time restaurant goers and as if were hardened Bix vets. Very strange.
Total bill came to about $100 per person given appetizers, salad, entree, wine, drinks. You could definitely spend a lot less.
Overall, I was impressed with the ambiance and decor and very happy with my meal and service. I'd definitely come here again.
Dudes, dress nicely. Jacket definitely, tie maybe. If you come in a t-shirt (as two of our party did) be prepared for some weird stares from the other patrons.

This place is awesome for it's atmosphere and food. I went with my co-workers (party of eight) around 9pm and the place was still busy. I got to try all the appetizers and couple of their main dishes. I ordered the Kobe beef which was very delicious. Also, their drink selection is great too.
A friend (local) took us out for drinks at this place. Let me tell you, the walk down the alley past a bum to find some town cars waiting in the alley. There, like a light at the end of the tunnel was this place. It really is one of the neatest restaurants/bars I have been to in quite a while. Being buried in an alley gave it this 'speakeasy' secret feeling. It is a very classy place I would love to go back. We didn't eat any food but I bet it would have been good.
Highly recommended.
BIX's reputation definitely precedes itself--4 stars on Yelp, on Michael Bauer's 100 Best Restaurants in the Bay Area...and several friends giving it the thumbs up. I had my reservations, but, I suppose I wasn't surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at BIX.
Firstly, ambiance is classy without trying too hard. From the outside, you'd think you were entering a Speakeasy Bar, but the inside is this effortlessly classy 1930's, Art Deco venue. Think booths, dark reds and greens and yellows and velvet. We were seated upstairs in a booth, perfect location to soak all the aforementioned up.
Food was delicious and near perfect. Shared the ragout of sweet corn with red pepper and fava beans with the bf and while we enjoyed it, it wasn't anything we couldn't make at home. In fact, the corn tasted like canned corn not fresh at all. As an entree, I ordered one of the specials, the NY steak with french fries and a some greens that they called a salad (just some weed like greens lightly dressed with olive oil). The 11oz. piece of meat was charred to perfection on the outside and cooked just as I liked it, medium well. I ate every last bite. The bf ordered the cheese burger, as I mentioned in previous reviews, he is somewhat of a hamburger connoisseur. Meat was good quality and well seasoned, cheese was far from ordinary, but wait, only a bottom bun? Apparently, it's an open faced hamburger...I think they should have described it as such on the menu. For dessert we ordered the chocolate tart with strawberry ice cream. It was not memorable and will not be the thing I recall fondly about the restaurant.
4 stars for quality food, time period ambiance and exceptional service. The bartenders are friendly too, and can apparently mix up a decent Manhattan.

Came here on Friday for lunch and everything was pretty tasty. I had the BEST bacon and corn chowder ever! Also had the steak tartare and the chicken hash. Our server seem a little off on timing each course .. or was it the kitchen staff?? Either way we had to wait a long time for each course to come out. By the time dessert came out we were ready to get out of there asap.
Lunch is pretty casual compare to dinner (from what I've been reading). But, they do have a pretty good lunch pre fixe menu.
3.5 stars for now ..

I just like everything about this place. Food, ambiance, location. well done.
Such a cool spot in the city. Great bar, awesome drinks, a nice swanky place to hang out in. It has such a movie set like quality about it.
Holy smokes. This place is great. I'm a comfort food kind of guy but I like a sophisticated city atmosphere. Bix has both -- especially loved their "sliders" for appetizers. Great date place.
Elegant atmosphere with live jazz music, white-gloved bend over backwards to please you service and exceptionally fresh, table side prepared food makes Bix a San Francisco dining must. When our waiter forgot my ceviche he more than made up for it by supplying our table with endless desserts (the Banana Foster is so rich and indulgent you won't need to eat dessert for days) and taking everything I'd ordered off the bill.
FiDi businesses men should frequent Bix on Fridays when they do a business man's lunch with three courses for $23. With off the menu options of home made pasta, rueben's, cobb salads and MORE you should splurge every few months.
This place is amazing. Great food and drinks. Incredible atmosphere, it is like a dark room with an open balcony of tables on top. You have to see it.
Fun place to meet for drinks and the truffled grilled cheese is yummy!
One of the most amazing restaurant I've ever been to. Stu was an incredible waiter - he definitely "made our prom night" (to quote a friend). Since we were underage, he suggested this "fancy grape juice" (to quote Stu himself). He also spent time talking about the food - where it came from, etc. It just made everything taste extra good. Halfway through our dinner we had the piano playing, but BIX wasn't as loud as I expected. The best part of the dinner was the dessert - the banana foster .... was INCREDIBLE.
I loved this place. From the top down...
Scheduled a dinner with a group of friends and we were all very pleased and impressed.
First, how cool is it that the entrance is down this narrow little alley? Like an old speakeasy.
Second, the decor is really well done. The place is small but looks gorgeous. We were on the second floor looking down and it was so nice to see the hustle and bustle of the staff and diners laughing and talking over a great meal.
Third, the service is impeccable. Each plate comes out promptly and the transitions are seamless. The staff really knows what they're doing and are really knowledgeable about the menu.
Fourth, the food. We ordered the appetizers platter for the table and it was delicious. Mini grilled cheese, crab cakes, tuna tartare and 1 other I can't recall at the moment. Every bit was stellar. The entrees were even better. I orderd the Kobe Beef and I must say every taste was perfect. The meat was artfully cooked, the sides were perfect complements and the presentation was beautiful. I was so satisfied and considering what I had read about the place I thought I was pretty surprised it lived up to the hype.
Fifth, I didn't mention the drinks earlier. Again very well made/mixed. Not your average vodka tonic made by some bimbo at a hip club. A perfect mix.
Lastly, the company I was with made it all the better. A night out with the boys especially to a place like this is a necessity to stay sane.
Overall, a blissful dining experience.
just for you,
I arranged to meet 1.5 months in advance.
I flew over 500 miles to see you.
I dressed fly for a chinese guy.
I struggled to be on my best behavior. (being drunk is more comfortable.. I'm a little shy)
And as I continued to eat you out all night, I became increasingly drunk (i love your mean dirty ass martini) and embarrassed myself by slobbering all over the table.
Caviar pillows, kobe beef, some dessert that I drunkenly sloshed down...everything was perfect.
I barely remember the evening at Bix, but I just salivated thinking about Friday night.
I can't wait to see you again.

Evening in the city. Walking up the alley way that is Gold Street and we find BIX. Looks like it might be a speakeasy, but actually it's a supper club. Upon entry we find an ornate room, a large mural behind the bar. However, this is not one of those hotel-style dining rooms in which an antiquated venue is slowly moldering. This is another time brought to life. And successfully. The waitstaff and bartenders in bow ties and short, crisp white jackets. The well-healed customers clotting about the bar in swank dresses and what might be Saville Row suits. At least they are well tailored, men and women alike.
But is the place all promise and no follow through? No, this place is the real thing.
I start with an appetizer of four mini lamb burgers. Served in dollar-size dinner roles, not at all fatty, nicely spiced. Topped with cucumber, a dab of tomato sauce and maybe some aioli. Lovely way to start an evening.
Next, corn soup with clams. Not surf and turf, rather this places version of land and sea. Sweet fresh corn in a light broth, here and there a fresh bivalve. Shows what you can do with the bounty of the farms and ocean hereabouts.
A main course of halbut, over corn, again, and some fresh beans. The fish is topped with a spiced butter of some sort and finishes cooking at the table. The halibut is pristine and fresh, the corn sweet and crisp, the beans a starchy counterpoint. Wonderful.
For dessert, bananas foster. Cooked bananas in a somewhat too sweet, liquored sauce is poured over vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is sufficiently good so that you can taste the vanilla bean against the liquor. Great way to end a meal.
Look, is that Louise Brooks gliding across the room? No? Well, it might have been. Anyway, I'll be back to be part of this scene. You should come too.
I kept flip-flopping from three stars to four. I'm torn. I think that given the opportunity to eat a full meal there and not just an appetizer & drinks, I would probably be more confident in the four I am giving them.
This is where was recommended we go for a 'mellow' dinner in the city. Ummm, not really, no. Not that it was a hyper out-of-control restaurant, but mellow is not the word I would have used.
Bix is a very chic restaurant in a small alley off the financial district in SF. The street it's on is old time cobblestone and the lighting was perfect for a romantic walk down the dimly lit street...to bad I wasn't with my s.o., but a best friend will do just fine!
We walked in and the maitre-de greeted us, asked if we had reservations (oops, didn't know we needed them for a 'mellow' place), we answered no; he said they were full but we could eat a full meal at the bar; so the bar it was!
We bellied up to the bar, which was very neat and very fancy-schmancy & ordered our drinks & an appetizer. I had a decent margarita on the rocks (no one I've met to date can make them as good as my mum) & Anna had a mandarin & 7. She was pleased with her drink.
We decided on the provolone wrapped prociutto drizzled in olive oil...it was DELICIOUS! We opted not to do dinner, we just really were feeling mellow, so we asked for our bill, paid & off we went to explore the city a little more.
I would love to go back and have a proper meal here, preferably with someone who is romancing me, it's a very chic place and if the dinner is half as good as the apps are, everyone would be in for a treat!

Didn't eat - just had drinks, which were great. Haven't been there in years. Looks a little dingy. Needs a facelift. Bathrooms could be cleaner.
What a wonderful "Old San Francisco" experience. Everything about Bix effuses class and superb service. The drinks are great and served by skilled and attentive bartenders. The food is outrageously good. I would recommend starting with the appetizer sampler. I went with a few friends, and all of our entrees were wonderfully tasty and thoughtful. From the steak, to the lamb, and seafood, everything was delectable. The service is outstanding with extremely attentive servers. The ambiance is wonderful. The piano and vocalist just added to the experience. It is a bit pricey, but if you get the chance, you should not miss Bix.

I know Bix does not need my review, #351; however, I want to plug it for vegetarians. They offered at least 3 off-the-menu items that sounded excellent. BIX - How do I love the? Let me count the ways:
1) Your fabulous bar is charming and swanky - it would make even the most die hard teetotalers big fat drunks.
2) The cocktails that you serve at your fabulous bar are a force to be reckoned with - one Side Car later and I was stumbling over words and walking off balance. What a great bang for your buck!
3) Your home made, fresh mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto was to die for. The cheese melted in my mouth and the prosciutto gave it the perfect salty balance.
4) Lamb burgers were perfection - a lovely and savory spin off of your typical run-of-the-mill sliders.
5) Your ambiance and lighting make me want to take a significant other to enjoy it with - I was with a good friend and all I could think about was how I wanted to make out. Date night anyone?
6) Service was great - extremely attentive and friendly.
7) Location, location, location! You are in the perfect after work spot in the Financial District. I love that I'm a mere hop skip and a jump away from a great treat after a long day.
Seven ways? Not bad - but I'll have to expand on my list as time goes on and I've had more than a couple visits. This place is definitely worth exploring over and over again!

Most expensive burger i have EVER had. And guess what? It was worth it. Damn it was good. I keep eying it and it keep teasing me from the neighboring table. Okay i admit it. it didn't sound that good (what the hell is truffled pecorino) but i was in the mood for a burger and nothing was going to stop me not even the $26 price tag. I figured there was no way in hell it could live up to that price. WRONG. it was awesome. cooked just the way i asked and the truffle fries were excellent. Now i'm not going to make it a practice to get $26 burgers but i shall return periodically.
Still not sure what turffled pecorino is but whatever it is, it's damn good and damn expensive.

I took Ramsis to Bix on his birthday and we were late 20 minutes, so we only had hour and a half to enjoy the food. We order a bottle of Melbec, Pacific Oysters on the half shell, Creamed Organic Bloomsdale Spinach, Mixed Green Salad (special order), Potato Pillows and American Sturgeon Caviar, American Kobe Bavette Steak and Sturgeon (Fish Special of Day). We really enjoyed our first and main courses but we were disappointed in Potato Pillows and American Sturgeon Caviar. The caviar wasn't fresh and I hardly tasted its flavor because of the cream. I don't think caviar and potato pillows go well together. The waitress was nice and the atmosphere was fabulous. The bar was packed and we were late so we didn't get to enjoy the live music.

I've been to Bix for apps and drinks, the bar is really fun, but never had the chance to have a full meal. The service is very polished and it's a really lively atmosphere. Our waiter was a little on the loud side (ok he was SHOUTING) but to his defense it wfas loud in the restaurant. I had halibut with some french chili butter and asparagus soup with meyer lemon cream. Both were very tasty albeit a bit heavy. I think this is a good restaurant to take your parents if they are visiting, they have live music starting at 9:30.
All I have to say is Yum, Yum and YUM!! I shared a few appetizers with a friend, and all of it was fantastic. My girlfriend and I started with the house made mozzarella wrapped in Proscuitto w/ Olive Oil ( I still dream about these leetle balls of heaven). Aloing with this appetizer, we snacked on the mini lamb burgers, also very tasty. For my main course, I choose the Ceviche. I think what made the ceviche for me was the pairing of the chiles with avocado. Delicious. I would definitely go back here for dinner. Bix is also a nice place to have a casual drink with friends. Even though the bar area has limited space, the bartendars sure know how to mix a good drink!

Best Martini's in town. Great live music, elegant decor, and the nostalgia of being in a former bank building. The food is fairly good and the service is great. Make reservations for dinner on weekends or you will be out of luck. Ask for Stanford the manager.
