I decided to try the meatloaf and it was good, but very dense.  The fried chicken that the my fellow diners had was so so to them. They said it had little flavor.  The sweet potatoes and cheese grits were good though.  I would have like to try some of the pie, but the portions were so big there was no way. And we took over half our dinner home.

The service was very friendly and it had a nice laid back ambiance.

Maybe I'll head back there one day to try the pies.

It's been cold rainy and icky outside so I was definitely in the mood for some comfort food! Greenwoods is located right across the street from Swallow at the hallow( been there done that) and after some careful deliberation we decided to give it a shot.. So we go in and the first thing I see are tons of baking sheets with freshly baked pies and a waitress bringing them outside to cool .. ahhh Just like Grandma's pie..(cherry pie excellent by the way!!! and the apple pie looked sooo good it was almost 5 inches high!) So we are seated.. when the waitress brings up the take cash or check only.. ahhh so we have to run to the bank...no big deal... the waitress even suggests that we can pay later after our meal or even *gasp* send them a check for the meal later on!! HU?? I was a bit surprised on that one. (we ran to the bank anyways) Yes prices are a bit on the high side 12+ per a plate, but the meals are gigantic! I ordered the fried chicken( half a chicken!) with a honey pepper glaze, black eyed peas, and grits. And couldn't even finish a chicken breast! food is made daily on the premises- the applesauce even tasted homemade!, and once they run out of something.. well they just run out of it! They had several specials that night as well. Next time our "Yankee" friends come to visit I will definitely take them here for some southern atmosphere and food!

I've never heard anything but positive compliments about this place. I hope Kim will be able to give them one more chance.  Every time I come hear, I leave impressed. This was some of the best down home suthern' cooking this damn yankee has ever had! I had the Sage Butter Pork, Broccoli Casserole and Creamed Corn. We sat outside next to the beautiful garden that has a '47 Ford? pickup for a giant flower pot! It is a wonderful environment, wonderful food, wonderful service and wonderful pie! My friend had the Lemon Meringue and sounded just like Ginny, saying "this is the best ever!" I always look forward to coming back here again soon :-)
I WILL say though....after being here a good number of times now, everything on the menu IS good, I don't feel there isn't a whole lot of variety of main dishes.

I am a native Georgian and grew up eating Southern food. Greenwoods is bit pricey to me for "a fancified meat and three," but the food and service are very good. Their portions are huge and their cornbread is especially good. Expect to take home a doggy bag.

The restaurant is only open on evenings, but is open for lunch on Sunday too.

I prefer Mary Mac's Tea Room in Atlanta for the closest to authentic Southern cooking, and Mary Mac's is less expensive. To be fair, Mary Mac's serves smaller, but ample, portions. However, if you live in the Roswell area and want to save time and gas, Greenwoods is a good choice.

We opted to try Greenwood's this afternoon for lunch, and I thought the food was incredible.. Southern Cooking at it's best.  I had the meatloaf with a couple of side veggies.. But I was most impressed with the vast array of pies, all made there.

The lemon meringe pie was absolutely superb.. I'd even vote it the "best ever".   Apparently, according to my cuz and fellow yelper Cat, the chef spent a year perfecting the receipe, and boy was it perfecto!

All of the food came in gigantic proportions, so be prepared to eat BIG!

MMM yes my cousin Ginny is correct...best ever lemon merengue pie!  I mean the slice was seriously 6" tall!  SO good.
I had a 3 vegetable plate which was quite reasonably priced in the $6 -7 range.  The cheese grits were really good..I'm not a big fan of regular grits, but these had a good consistency and cheesy yumminess throughout.  Also, tasty, mayhaps a bit salty, mashed potatoes.  My third huge bowl was broccoli casserole...quite yummy with it's fried onions on top and cheesy sauce.  Wish they had green beans since I'm not big on collard greens.

I'll have to take my honey back there and we can split one of the hugeass portions...$5.95 fee to split, but that's OK.

OH and don't forget cash or check ONLY!

I haven't been here in years, but I used to go quite often.  I remember my friends telling me that the owner was a chef at a four-star restaurant.  He's a large hippie with a penchant for, as he puts it, "honest food".

Honestly, it is really great, simple southern food of the highest calibre.  They bake pies fresh on the premises and the honey-drizzled fried chicken is the absolute best I've ever tasted.  (Sorry, Mom).

The portions are monstrous, so you will want to split an entree with a date or friend if you don't want to take food home, but you WILL want to take food home.

Oh yea...so I came here on a business meeting. Saw it on Travel Channel and I had to try it. It was pretty funny because I was not it my element. My guide and partner at the time thought I was pretty funny just wanting to try all the southern food I can handle. Oh yea...Everything is fried or boiled...it seemed like. I had the Fried Chicken(Oh surprise surprise) and I had some greens, and some mashed potatoes. Definitely good times. Except I was offended on HOW MUCH FOOD THEY SERVE! Leave me some room to try other stuff. Don't make me feel so full. Wow just thinking of it makes me feel like Shamu. Mmmm Peach pie....oh yea...NO NO NO NO MORE! If I eat anymore I'm going to explode.

Yea I ate more. It was worth the pain.

I have eat all over the southeast and this place is as good as it gets. I have taken friends family and people that I want to enjoy a good southern meal. Everyone has enjoyed this place, sometimes a little crowded but worth the wait. Have never gotten a bad meal, plus the dessert is heavenly! Be starving when you go or take a big tray for carry out food. It does not get much better than here. Ice Cream! Get it!

I know that most Atlantans love this place.  I, however, am not one of them.  I went here with my family for what we thought would be a delicious and pleasant dining experience.

We were wrong.

Boy, were we wrong.

There were 6 of us and not 1 person liked their food. We had meatloaf, fried chicken, fish, a big selection.  It was all horrible.  I don't know if it was an off night or what.  It was just so incredibly disappointing.  We had heard for YEARS about how amazing the food is.

I'd love to read about someone else's experience.
