Neighborhood: Marina/Cow HollowEvery girl needs a little retail therapy and this place definitely satisfies the need. Not only do they carry harder to find brands like Vivienne Westwood, Twinkle, and Penguin but everything is on sale! Unlike other discounter stores, they actually will have size options and the clothes aren't completely out of style. It also doesn't feel like a Loehman's or Marshall where the place is thrashed and you have to search hard for the goods. It's a cute boutique that feels very high class. The staff is very helpful and honest too! I promise you won't be able to leave there without picking up a good find or at least feeling like you should have.

What a great idea and what a great deal - all designer clothes from local boutiques all on sale. I always am able to find something new that I love - so in the end, everyone wins! The customer service varies based on the day but who cares when they can get designer duds at half price!

A great boutique in my neighborhood! This place has become my go-to when I need (ok, rather when I want) a new pair of hot jeans. They have all sorts of things here, but jeans is what I am usually looking for when I venture inside. A cute selection of shoes, but sizes are hit or miss. Cute tops and dresses too, as well as accessories! The staff are very helpful in finding your size, in fact one girl even went through some boxes in the back to find me a pair of jeans. They can be a little overzealous with their "that looks SO good on you" comments as you step out of the dressing room, but they're not insulted or rude if you chose not to buy anything.
great place for last minute shopping.
one star less because the some price tags for their cute accessories are MIA, so pretty much the price can change (...) between sales clerks, depends on the weather, and eer the computer monitor.
big boo for that.
I still rather shop here than online, because I like their selection and location is convenient for me. and they have great stuff, all your outfit can be put together here.
I stumbled upon My Roommate's Closet in search of a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding. I was so excited to find that I could, for once, afford the high end designers that I so often read about in magazines! The sales girl was great and really listened to my specific wants. While in the dressing room she brought me several options that fit perfectly!!! It was so hard to choose, but I finally decided on a Diane Von Furstenburg dress and a gorgeous Robert Rodriguez top. I was so happy to be able to buy my first DVF piece and to find a boutique that really wanted to help, I will definitely return!
I've stopped in plenty of times, but only made a few purchases. One years ago at their other Marina location and one today. 4 stars is for the shopping experience I had today - I found a beautiful Julie Haus cobalt blue skirt. I saw it on shopbop.com for double the price and yes, they are selling it right now. My Roommate's closet has a nice variety of items from different designers and the prices are lower than other upscale boutiques in the Marina, but don't expect to find much (if anything) under $100 if you are a true bargain shopper (due to the labels they carry).

During my twenty one years on earth thus far, how did I not stop by My Roommate's Closet until a month ago? Depending on the sartorial styling of your roommate, don't let the name fool you. For sure, this is not the closet of my former roommate. This is the closet of your imaginary roommate: a girl who always wears cute shoes and always picks the right bars. And what a generous roommate! I was pleasantly surprised by the discounted prices for the shoes, including a few beautiful pairs by Loeffler Randall. The shopgirls were courteous but a bit heavy-handed and effervescently effusive with the praise. It reached a sorority girl timbre. "Ohmigod, that would be sooo perfect for your graduation!" Nonetheless, when left to my own devices, I had a wonderful time sorting through the wares.
I like this store, good variety although I *wish* they had more stock, I end up going through everything in a matter of like 15minutes. The girl here was very nice, cute dresses!

Okay, so you'll spend more on a dress here than you would if you went to a non-designer type place...but, you'll spend a lot less than if you went to a designer boutique. The store is small, but everything is cute. They sometimes have multiple sizes - sometimes not. They'll give you helpful input on your selections if you want it (plus loan you some cute shoes to try your dress on with). If I lived closer (or parking nearby were easier) I'd come by every couple weeks...

Wow, I am a little surprised by the bad reviews. When I went here the girl working was super nice, helped me out a ton. Cute stuff!

I stopped in here after my hair appointment at mercer. At the salon, I had just seen the cutest catherine malandrino dress in one of those "who wears it better" celebrity faceoff articles.
What should catch my eye as I enter the store? The same gorgeous catherine malandrino halter dress! Only one left, albeit in one size too large. I grabbed it. It was a good day.

Although this is a great to find some really awesome deals on designer clothing/shoes/bags, the service here is HORRIBLE. I went in after reading about it somewhere, and found a lot of great items, but was so disgusted with the customer service there, I sadly left my findings behind (go to Jeremy's or sample sales....you'll find the same things). I was not greeted when I entered, I was never asked if I needed help, and while I browsed, the two girls at the registered spent their time glaring at me. Girls, take your time and money else where...Union St/Fillmore St has many other boutiques that carry much better things. Also, just a note....all they carry are small sizes.

I'm surprised by all the reviews noting bad service. Every time I've shopped here the staff have been extremely helpful. They take my picks and put them in the dressing room so I'll have two free hands to shop, and they help me get in and out of too tight dresses! There's no attitude what-so-ever.
There are good finds to be had here and the prices are much more reasonable than all the other boutiques up and down Fillmore Street.

I'm not in the habit of defending the Marina--its stores, its people, its restaurants, whathaveyou--but I felt compelled to write.
I actually like this store. I've often been surprised by it and the lack of bitchiness. Granted I'm a lo-fi shopper. I don't need the chirpy "Hi! How are you?" and the "Can I help you find something?" crap. I like my solitude when I shop. I like to explore, turn things over, feel fabrics... and this place lets me do that.
If that's not your style, then I would head down Fillmore in the opposite direction.
Other than that, yes they have last season's styles but that's okay with me. The low prices will wash over all rhyme and reason.

Every girl's DREAM store! Lots of new things to hunt through each time I've gone in, without being overwhelming, like a Loehman's crazy experience. The shop is cute, clean, great music, sunny, always a full selection. The girls who work here are also amazing with knowing what's hiding in the racks or piles and picking out some great finds. Oh, and they are really nice too. Not some snobby shop girls that could care less that you walked in and have money to spend. If you love designer clothes, and are a compulsive shopper like me, but choke every time you see your credit card bill for those $200 jeans you just had to have, this is "a little less guilt" kinda place to shop.

I could not believe it. They fucking reenacted the scene from Pretty Woman where they are snooty and make Julia Roberts feel like shit because she looks like a cheap ho. Except this place does it to anyone above a size four. Big bitches in here. Big ones.

Okay, so it's not just me! Every time I've walked into this place, I get an icey "helloooooo..." if I get a greeting at all. I mean, I'm all for not breathing down my neck while I shop but a sincere greeting would be nice too. I was a little disappointed with this store in general. Its a great concept, and with that name for a shop, I guess I had high expectations. I think if you had something specific in mind and run into it here at a discounted price, it's great. But otherwise, their stuff is still very, very expensive.

$200 skinny jeans over my dead, non-eating disorder body! $200 jeans in general, really. I mean, why can't Marciano make $50 Guess? jeans cool again? Those were my thoughts until I found a pair of Paige skinny jeans at My Roomate's Closet today at lunch. They were only $90 which my frugal round butt and I can deal with. Plus they fit so that's always a bonus (after $30 of alterations of course). And if you ask me, a little junk makes the skinnys look that much better. I better get numerous cat calls, obscene gestures, and plenty of locker room slaps in these babies.

By reading all of the previous reviews about poor customer service, you would almost think that My Roomate's Closet doesn't even sell clothes. Well, it does! And I think the clothes are cute and affordable. The store is well organized, the clothing selection seems to change pretty often, and the girls that work in the store have always been friendly to me!

I actually have a love/hate relationship with this place. It is costing me way too much money. It all started with a L.A.M.B jacket that is to die for...and now you know I am jonesing for La Rok cami, L.A.M.B high waisted linen sailor pants, and a cute little tunic that will look perfect in St Tropez, which in turn leads to having to book a very expensive vacation. See what I mean?

I am obviously in the minority, but I found My Roommate's Closet to be pretty "blah". I really think it's pretty hit or miss. The prices are good if you're looking to save, but the SAs are awful. They have ignored me just about every time I've wandered in.
I suppose it serves it's purpose but I can't say that it's a favorite by any means. I kind of think it's a bit overrated. It has potential but I think I still prefer to shop elsewhere, even if I do have to spend a bit more.

Paying full price is for SUCKAS!!! As a girl who sometimes masturbates to bargains, I gotta say that this store turns me on like foreplay with no man ever will.
I found the place by chance as I was aimlessly ambling around Fillmore, sipping on a Mango Madness during a sunny afternoon. Already I had thought to myself, "Ahhh... what a satisfyingly perfect day. San Francisco is the bomb. This day could not get any better." But I was wrong. Just as a bluejay perched on my shoulder and began chirping its melodious song, I spotted My Roommate's Closet. I roamed in for the first time and discovered that EVERYTHING IN THE STORE IS MARKED DOWN at all times!! DO ME, DISCOUNTS!!! DO MEEEEE!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
On a calmer note, the store is a small, manageable size, and the owners have already cherry picked from other boutiques to select what they think is sell-able, so unlike most sales racks and discount stores, you won't feel like you're burrowing into mounds of ugly wackness that should just be burned to prevent someone blind from accidentally buying and wearing it.
Some of the tantalizing brands I found there included Costume National, Catherine Malandrino, Tracy Reese, Alberta Ferretti, and Diane vonFurstenberg. Size availability is hit-or-miss, as with items on sale anywhere. I didn't notice the shoes because I was too busy prowling for a dress. Damnit!
Additionally, I should mention that the employee who helped me was VERY customer service-oriented. She made sure I never had to schlep any potential purchases around, which was very helpful because I was the annoying bitch in the store who was trying to shop while talking on her cell phone. Also, the employee offered helpful advice when I asked her about whether the dresses I was trying on would be appropriate for a wedding. In other words, I had to ask her if they were too slutty because I apparently wasn't born with that filter.
Unfortunately, indecisive people (I'm one of them) should beware because the return policy is similar to that of most boutiques in the area, meaning there are NO REFUNDS--only store credit within 30 days of your initial purchase.
To summarize, I hope you'll check this place out because I think it will satisfy your cravings for sartorial sumptuousness without making you feel like a guilty clothes whore (even though you probably are one, like myself).

While the clothes are less expensive than they would be in season, most were still too expensive for me. $150 for a shirt that was originally $300 is still too much. That probably says more about the brand, than this store, though. I didn't really pay attention to most of the clothes once I found a super cute one piece bathing suit in my size. Given that I was on a mission to find a bathing suit this past weekend, and had NO success at the major stores, I was more than thrilled to find one at a place I least expected. And I paid less than I was planning. Woohoo!

I LOVE this store! Even though things at 50% off are often still too pricey for me...what a great selection. You often find piles of messy clothing at "discount" stores, but definitely not here. Everything's arranged neatly on racks, tables or shelves and you feel like you're in any normal boutique. The merchandise is constantly changing too. One of the store managers - I can't remember her name, but she's this really petite blond woman - is super helpful, friendly and will dress you up perfectly if you ask.

This Place is AMAZING!!! It's a hit or miss, since the turnover is so rapid. They get stuff in almost daily but it also goes very quickly so if you see something you love you shouldn't hesitate to get it cause it wont be there when you go back.
The Owners are one of a kind and will do everything they can, to find what you want! I am really stunned by the past comments on the service. I've only experienced nothing but the best time and time again no matter who is working. Yes they have last seasons merchandise ...hence the name boutique "Outlet". But they also carry a wide range of old and new. There is something for everyone.
This is one of my fav. places to shop in SF!!!
I worked retail for years...My Roommate's Closet has failed my test time and time again. It's a simple test really. It's called recognizing a customer when they walk in the door.
Yeah, I stopped going there. Snots.

I walked in expecting a lot, so I guess it makes sense that I was a little disappointed. The sales people were nice and welcoming. The selection is not really my cup of tea.
I like this place ok. Where else can you go for discounted clothes that doesn't make you want to kill yourself? Our Ross is a carousel of suck, Nordstrom's Rack is hit or miss and a bitch to get to, so this place does its job. I do wish they had more inventory. It's weird to set it up like a boutique considering what kind of store it is. But whatever, the illusion is cool.

Okay selection, but I can't help but notice that no one said hello even if there were just a few people inside. Hmm...I'm not that short but I guess if I was just a wee bit taller, maybe, maybe if I was I would have been noticed. This was my first experience at My Roommate's Closet and I hope it was going to be great but nope, poor. No futher comments.

I am big fan of this place. I found a Bryna Nicole Bag here for 1/2 price! I couldn't have been happier. AND I got a $25 gift certificate for spending over $250. How is that for customer service? I'll be back!

I'm a big fan of this store. They have a good variety of clothes from casual to dressy. And if you spent $100 or more you get a gift certificate for 10%. I came here to look for a New Year's Eve top. When I was in the dressing room the saleswoman brought me others she thought I might like and I actually purchased one of her selections.
My favorite place to shop in San Francisco! MRC carries the best brands from LAMB to True Religion. They always have great shoes by Vera Wang or Giuseppe Zanotti to add to my shoe collection. My Roommates Closet is a must stop and shop for any true city girl.

I went here looking for an engagement party dress. I was a bit discouraged at first, not being a size 6 or even and 8, but the girls were SOOOOO helpful. They looked all over the store for items that might work and one of them even went out to her car to get something she'd just picked up that she thought might be good! The best part? I actually found a dress, a beautiful dress by Tracy Reese for 1/2 price! 4 stars and not 5 for lack of sizes.
I love My Roommate's Closet. Cute clothes at discounted prices. You feel like you're getting a bargain without that "on a mission" hunting feeling of a sale rack at a large department store. Cate and Suzanne are great too! They remember your size and what styles you like and help you pick out the perfect ensemble. They constantly get new merchandise too, so there are plenty of choices.

So far, each of my trips to this boutique have been successful. After obsessing with Project Runway and deciding that my true calling in life was to go into design (a fleeting moment), I "needed" to make a visit to this delightful shop on one of my romps in the neighborhood. Needless to say, I probably spent more than I should have, but it was justified by the discount concept of the store. I've gotten 2 great Trina Turk dresses about $100 each and other various designer pieces to add to my wardrobe. The girls that work here are very helpful, especially.the owner. I love that the clothes are arranged by color scheme. Great clothing and shoes priced well and super cute. A must stop on any shopping trip in this area!
Yes it is cheaper then most of the boutiques you will go to in the Marina, however I feel that some of their selections are just nothing new or unique. Their service is fairly okay with employees giving a typical greeting, yet doing nothing else to assist

full disclosure-- a friend from college's wife is the co-owner. still, this place is GREAT. i found the coolest pair of 4 inch gold heels here ever. i get compliments on them whenever i wear them. not only that, but my friend went there in a "oh my god i don't know what to wear on a big date" and they put in her a FAB outfit that she (and her date) loved. how's that for customer service? none of the snobbery i've encountered at some other boutiques.

ooh la yummmmy! this sassy little boutique off of Union street is an outlet for boutiques (you'll even find some ooma overstock items here). Basically - you can get the things that originated at a hot boutique for 50% (or more!) off the original price. it's like one, gorgeous sale rack. the place doesn't scream "discount" either. it's very plush and well-appointed.

I don't usually venture onto Union Street anylonger (no parking, public transportation is sort of non-existent, no more Prego's...) but I did walk into this boutique a few days ago and I think I'm going to have to suck it up and visit the area a little more often (atleast during the week).
They tend to have only a few sizes on the racks but if you ask, the women who work there are super helpful and friendly and will run to the back and fetch your size. They also have a TON of jean selections that I didn't realize existed...this is easily my new favorite store in SF.
