We went to Lassi on a rainy day, so we were able to sit down, etc. But frankly, I've had better Indian food- better parathas in general. My husband and me also tried the mango and the cardamom lassi- again- I've had much better lassi. On the whole, we were excited before we came to eat there, and left a bit dissapointed.
Upon walking into this paratha-wide eatery, it's a bit surprising but pleasing at the same time to come upon a bright, blond woman behind the counter; it's wonderful to see someone from another culture try their hand at the cuisine, and do an excellent job at it.
My friend and I were treated very kindly and given an extra stool to sit on by the owner/chef. While they went for the classic paneer paratha (which was so excellent I finished it), I got my hands around a daikon-filled piece of griddled bread. Only a touch greasy, it has a great spicy kick and is cooled down by the boondi raita that comes alongside.
On a second visit, the cauliflower (gobhi) paratha was the best yet, and filling without being greasy or excessive.

Sweet little place with high-end good food. The chef, as someone noted, used to work at some fancy-schmancy place as a pastry chef and then opened Lassi. Well I'm glad she left because if she hadn't we'd be a sadder neighborhood because of it.
I had Keema Mattar and Coconut Lassi. The mattar was good, the lamb nice and not gamey. I loved the lassi and wish I'd ordered the larger size - it was sweet but not overly so and the yogurt was fresh and rich. She must have a special supplier for the yogurt because this isn't made from Dannon.
Nice place, nice, food and nice owner. All-in-all a good spot for takeout or delivery.

Its quiet authentic, I'd compare it to some of the food I've had in India.. well, everything but the (west village) price.

I came here with my friend T.X and we got the Cheese Paratha and the Methi Chicken.
I cannot figure out what kind of cheese they used in the paratha but I found it disgusting.
The Chicken was okay, but it just tasted like any other dish that I had in other cuisine.
As for the Vanilla Lassi....you think I would enjoy something like this, but I actually didn't. It was overly sweet and just not enjoyable!
Next time...I'll pass on Indian Food!

Living in the West Village has its perks. I know, I know, the neighborhood is a total dump, the crime is unavoidable, there is no sense of charm, and there are NO restaurants. But thank god there is good takeout! I live around the corner from the two best takeout places in the city: Lassi and Cafe Asean. But let's focus on Lassi, since this is my review for it.
1) The space is adorable. All 82 sq. ft. of it.
2) The owner is friendly and approachable. Odd that a white woman who used to be the pastry chef at L'Impero opened this place, but hey, it's works.
3) The food is amazing.
First, have a paratha. I recommend the cauliflower. (I had never had one before, so it's basically delicious flatbread with a thin layer of filling.) Which ever paratha you choose, the boondi raita it's served with is delicious!
Second, if you're having trouble choosing an entree (they change daily), you probably can't go wrong. I must say, however, that the Shitake Mattar Paneer was delicious--and very spicy to boot.
If you're craving absolutely delicious, fresh, lovingly-made Indian food, this is your place.

The food is incredible and on par with some of the best restaurants that I've been to in India. The spices are subtle and savory. A must for anyone who likes Indian food. Beware that there isn't really a place to sit.
Cuteness! Definitely one of my fave takeout places. Everything I've tried there I've loved. Even when they messed up my order & I accidentally took home a chicken curry instead of a veggie curry (hence the minus one star rating), I still liked what I got. Their entrees change all the time but the sides (like the parathas [flat, unleavened bread similar to pita]) stay the same. You could call ahead and ask what the daily entrees are.
I second Seth N. on the good lassis [think yogurt smoothies]. Their chai tea is pretty good (could be better).

If you've ever been to a restauarant, and been to the restroom, and to get to the restroom you had to walk through like a really small hallway that passes the kitchen, and has one of those postcard racks on the walls, then you've walked down a hallway that is bigger than this whole restauarant. Lassi is absolutely miniscule, which I adore, because it means their rent is so low that they can feed me a stunning gourmet Indian lunch for the kind of money that I'd more readily associate with the price of a magazine, or maybe the cost of a subway ride. I heartily vouch for the daikon Parantha, a warm, wheaty crepe packed with delicate, spicy radish ($3.95). For a "splurge," try the pumpkin and black lentil dal ($4.95).

I've seen closets bigger than this place! It is small and comfortable. That is half the appeal. The other half is the food, which is amazing!
The prices are great...just a fraction above a slice of pizza or a falafel.
Takeout Indian food. Not conducive for eating in (unless you are a party of 1) really made for takeout/delivery. I enjoyed the flavorful food and the Lassis are quite good as well. A bit on the pricey side for takeout but really top notch quality and worth it.

not bad, but not different than any other indian food i usually get. we started off w/ a cheese paratha which was a mistake, i shouldve listened to everyone and got the cauliflower bc the cheese was a little too salty for my liking. for entree we got the methi chicken which was pretty good tho again, a little salty. the vanilla lassi was very good. too bad they dont have samosas. i would still come back
