121 N Bentz StOf course, there's a hundred good reasons for having our office in beautiful historic downtown Frederick rather than some lame industrial cul-de-sac. But Baker Park is one of my favorite reasons. When it's nice out - like today - there's nothing better than being able to walk out the door and find a substantial park like this (and the surrounding historic community) for a lunchtime run or walk. The park is fairly linear, and coupled with the new Carroll Creek walkways, it's pretty easy to create a scenic, no-repeat, 3-4 mile loop ...
Frederick is an old town.
It is setup like an old town. Before cars, malls, highways, Olive Garden, track housing, 1 hour commutes, shock jocks, gated communities and the idea of buying a big ass cookie cutter house that you don't have time to live in and you have to pay people to clean and mow your lawn and watch your kids.....
And so now Frederick is surrounded by all the crap I just listed. But there still exists Market street- a quaint commercial artery and street after street of nice row houses. And within walking distance, a perfect little urban park for everyone to enjoy. A meeting place for the citizens of Frederick and a place to celebrate and relax.
There are weeping willow trees, a quiet creek, a clock tower, playgrounds, a public pool, softball fields, band shell etc etc.
So drive to Frederick, park your god-forsaken car, turn off your cell phone, go for a walk around Baker Park and remind yourself of how simple life can still be.

Yeah, Baker Park is sweet. Especially the swinging bridge and how it now connects with the hopefully-soon-to-be-finished Carroll Creek walk. While Frederick is a much different place than it used to be, there is something familiar about walking down Church Street or Second Street with all those pretty old houses and churches, especially around this time of year when people are starting to decorate for the holidays.
