Strike One: When I went there, I committed the cardinal sin of sitting in some regular's seat. The guy was verbally abuse to me, staff just laughed it off.
Strike Two: This establishment is owned by Baker Places, a social services agency that claims to help gay, lesbian, transgendered and people with AIDS through the recovery process from drugs and alcohol. They're straight up poverty pimps and their treatment approach is highly questionable. By supporting the Castro Country Club, you are supporting some seriously shady and suspect, bordering on medical malpractice, treatment services.

WOW ... this place is far out.
No drugs or alcohol needed for this trip.
Need a place to hang? ...this is it.
Clean and sober ... yet wildly amusing.
The coffee is hot, and so is the help.
An oasis in the vast wasteland of The Castro.

I love the Castro Country Club. It's a great place to meet supportive person that have been through so many life expriences. They can guide you or help you with what ever issue or concern you have. When you get to know the people ther they become your other family. For me it was like that. i been through a big change in my life where I had to move away and my second choice was San Francisco. They way i heard about The Castro Country Club, was by a friend who was a ex-addict.
For me, I am not a ex-addict or addict. I am what they refer to me as a "Normy," which is a person who doesn't have any issues (problems) with substances.
I lvoe the Castro Country Club and the're is many diffren't social groups that you can fit into. The one thing we all have in common is what we all have. Morals. You live, learn, grow, and become who you are through every situation or obsticle in life.
I rate the Castro Country Club a HIGH FIVE STAR.

A wonderful and necessary alternative to the bar scene, this is a clean-and-sober space dedicated to the city's recovery communities and its supporters, and those who simply don't drink. There's a very relaxed, non-oppressive atmosphere in this converted Victorian flat located in the heart of the Castro, which includes an espresso bar, spacious sundeck, TV and movie room, Internet access, library, and game room. Run by friendly volunteers, it's open weekdays from 5:00 - 11:00pm and on weekends from 10:00am until 1:00am. Five stars for providing a safe haven and watering hole where people can socialize without the crutch of alcohol and/or recreational drugs.

great place to hang in the castro. they're set up as a cafe/social space
all volunteer run, open to everyone. Sit drink coffe, read, play cards/board games watch tv or enjoy the sun on the front steps. Set up as a safe clean and sober social space but open to everyone. Opened in 1983 as an alternative to the bar scene, the castro's oldest coffee house. Check it out. One of a kind place
