I've been going to this place for 2+ years. The staff are friendly and great! I've taken a lot of people & friends to this restaurant. Here are the amazing dishes I usually order: crunchy rolls, salt & pepper crab dish (DELICIOUS!), rare beef salad, 5-spice chicken house specialty grill and chow fun noodles combination. I have not YET disappointed any of my guests for a taste of San Francisco cuisine.

Yum-may Yum-may -- a misnomer if I ever heard one.  This place is dreadful.

You should check it out if you have never had Vietnamese food and want to spoil it for yourself for the rest of your life.  This place is also good for bourgie folks from the Marina who want to seem "worldly," because "Pho" is so exotic!

Good Vietnamese food is light, lean, and almost pure.  When I walk into a Vietnamese place, I should smell meat sizzling on a grill, not be greeted with smells of rancid canola oil and bleach water.

The food here is rank.  Even Lee's could out do them.  My favorite part of the restaurant has to be at the very front: a poster comparing meals at Yummy Yummy against similar ones at Slanted Door.  Thats so pathetic for Yummy's sake, thats like Freddy Jackson trying to compare himself with Prince.  Just sad.

Yummy, you failed me.  1 star.

This place is my absolute favorite viet place in san francisco. I grew up eating viet food and my family knew the owner in vietnam, so they at least have lived and most of them grew up in vietnam. So much better than ppq on irving who can't speak any viet. My favorite is the banh hoi, which is a skewered grill plate that you use rice paper, noodles, and veggies to make summer rolls with. You get to choose the type of meat you want or you can get half half  or mixed. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the price, this place has serious price inflation when they first opened it was like 10 bucks, now its like 15 bucks. Plus the fish sauce here is good, but not great. I think they were lazy and didn't actually cook the fish sauce.

This place is not yummy yummy.

It's greasy greasy.
staley staley.
fatty fatty.
not yummy yummy.

since when is vietnamese food greasy and fatty?

how can you possibly make eating a spring roll (not imperial, SPRING!) feel greasy?

i was raised on vietnamese food, and this place does not make the cut.
There was a long line, so we waited. After awhile we were finally seated. Service was like an other Vietnamese restaurant-a few grunts and nods. It's pricey because you are basically eating corn oil.

Go elsewhere.

The food (a pork and vermicelli bowl with imperial roll) was pretty good and the price was right. But the price was about the same as it is at Sunflower (not to be all "that way" about it), yet half as good and a quarter smaller. Also, when one of my lunch companions requested no cucumbers (and asked again once our bowls were delivered), the server said no problem. Sans cukes, yep. Yet, at the end of the meal, there were evil little strips of cucumber lining his otherwise empty bowl. So..eh.

Sometimes you only need to try something once to know it's good...like my peener.  So it is with Yummy Yummy as well.

I had my first meal at this mom n pop Vietnamese joint on Irving today.  Granted I was starving since I had hardly eaten anything in a day and a half due to having an assload of Jaegger shots with Jaapie and a Puerto Rican on Friday night.  And granted I had an amazing set of (   o     Y     o   ) sitting right across from me.  I honestly don't think that either of those things influenced my experience at all.

My lunch friend had us get the Tom Nuong Xa Mon An Banh Hoi.  Grilled shrimp with rice paper, rice noodles, peanuts, lettuce leaves, mint leaves, shredded carrots and cucumber..the works.  We skipped using the rice paper and instead made lettuce wraps.  This is a great starter to share although it's not for anyone with OCD cleanliness issues.  You are going to get fish sauce and peanut sprinkles all over yourself while you eat this, and you can't use utensils for any of it.  Can I just pause here and tell you how much I love foods that you eat with your hands instead of silverware?

For myself I ordered the Cua Beer Kho To (crab and beer clay pot) but was informed that it consisted of a whole uncracked crab in the clay pot.  I was expecting chunks of crab in a beer infused clay pot and since I didn't want to get any more messy than I was already going to get with the self made rolls I opted for the Ca Kho To (catfish claypot).

The clay pot here is for serious, not for fakes!  It was a very healthy sized pot with a very healthy sized serving of catfish.  It seemed like the chunks of fleshy catfish were just packed in there to the point of wondering how any sauce could have possibly been added.  But there was plenty of sauce and the catfish head too!  If you have had the catfish clay pot at other Vietnamese places then you know what flavor to expect.  It's a very rich sweet sauce.  Get yourself a pile of steamed rice to spoon the catfish and sauce onto because otherwise you might have flavor overload.

I was so caught up sucking on catfish bones and eating chunks of sauce covered fish flesh that I completely forgot to gawk at the (   o     Y   o   ) in front of me.  If you know me then you know something  has to be pretty good in order for me to ignore boobs.

I'm coming back for the crab and beer clay pot, most likely with my alien friend.  He doesn't have any boobs to compete with or enhance my experience with the food.

This place is certainly yummy yummy ! I usually get the Bun Rieu or the Bun Bo Hue here and its good. My friends and I always split the carpaccio  or known as Bo Tai Chanh. SOOO YUMMY.  They are always packed so you gotta wait a bit for your table. The owner always walks around and talks with the customers. He's a very talkative and funny guy. Overall, this is a good place to get some Vietnamese food at night.

Some recent raves on Chowhound piqued my curiosity for this Vietnamese spot in the Inner Sunset.  It's a casual neighborhood place and we found it packed on an early Saturday afternoon.  The menu is pretty extensive, featuring everything from pho to beef carpaccio to even frogs.

Not feeling too adventurous, we decided to go with our standards, Imperial rolls, Banh Xeo, and Bo Luc Lac.

The imperial rolls came out first, served with lettuce leaves, pickled carrots & daikon, cucumbers, mint, and nuoc cham.  The first thing I noticed was the unusual skin on the rolls.  It was very delicate looking, almost like a nest, and the texture was delicate as well.  These were nicely fried and were tasty all wrapped up and dipped in the nuoc cham.

Next came the Banh Xeo, a crepe filled with bean sprouts, shrimp and pork.  The crepe itself had a nice coconut taste to it, but lacking texture wise.  I'm partial to a crispy crepe, so it wasn't my favorite.  The filling was mostly bean sprouts, with a few shrimp and slices of fatty pork.  It also comes with lettuce leaves to wrap, which is not the easiest thing to do if you don't know how to portion your bites.  This dish was satisfying but not the best I've had.

Last was Bo Luc Lac, aka Shaking Beef.  The cubes of filet mignon were cooked a nice medium rare, served sizzling on a cast iron plate with caramelized onions and bell peppers.  The first thing I noticed was they didn't serve it with a lemon pepper dipping sauce, which I think is needed with this cut of beef.  It would have helped this dish immensely, as the beef was very underseasoned, practically bland compared with the first two dishes.  Instead of asking for a sauce, I used the leftover nuoc cham to dip the cubes into.  The dish was ok, but I'll give extra points for the huge portion of beef that they served us.

Overall, I don't think it's a destination restaurant, but definitely a good local option when you're in the mood for Vietnamese.

Good Vietnamese food is hard to find in the city. A lot of people have a misconception of how it's supposed to taste like because it's just so awful around here. Gorwing up I actually didn't like Vietnamese food because I've only had it in the city but when I finally tried some good Pho in San Jose and in Virginia (high Vietnamese population), I started to like it. I was recommended to this restaurant by a Vietnamese friend of mine and it isn't super good but the best in the city I've tried so far.

Not the best pho I've had--the noodles were too soggy when I got it, and it took an awfully long time before we got our food (I am used to getting our food almost immediately in Vietnamese restaurants).  The broth wasn't that great either, just overall disappointing pho!  My friend had a sweet and sour soup noodle and said it wasn't sour enough.  I don't mind the wait if it's for good food, but it wasn't.   And they forgot one of our iced coffee as well!

Went by last week and grabbed a bowl of beef pho. Lotsa beef--yeah! The broth was tasty but not as deep and rich as some of my favorites. Service was efficient and quick. Prices were about normal...maybe about $1 more than some of my other favorites. It's fairly close to home so i would come back when im in the neighbourhood.

Love this place! I've been several times. I'm lucky that I get to go with a big group that has been many times and they are a. fun and b. know what to order.

The food is so freakin' good.

Here's what we had the last time:
grilled whole fish (order in advance)
grilled (or bbq) beef salad
beef carpaccio
imperial rolls
frogs legs (they're tempura'd and really tasty)
tiger prawn clay pot (omg try the heads! yum)
catfish clay pot
salt & pepper crab
asparagus (it had a slight crunch to it  - just perfectly cooked.)

Every single dish was incredibly delicious. The service is really friendly. I guess the moral of the story (for the people that had bad experiences) is go with a big group and tip big.

I don't know if I have anything bad to say about this place.  This is a staple in our lives - take out at least once a week.  Helen, who works the front, always greets with a smile and knows exactly what I want.  Everything is consistently good, and when I decide to deviate from my standard fare I am never disappointed.

Yummy Yummy makes me very Happy Happy!

I love this place! I live in the Mission and I would ride my bike to the inner sunset just to eat here.

Their rare beef Pho is delicious. Shit, I even had some tripe and it tasted damn good. It's all about the broth here.

Oh, Yeah did I mention is dirt cheap, yet super clean?!

If you want cheap good food, this is the spot.

Fast, quick, hearty, healthy, tasty... and cheeeeappp!

The proprietors are so friendly, so welcoming, and there is definitely a homey feel around lunchtime when you enter and their little one is running about.  They seem to reserve a couple of tables near the kitchen for the family to sit at, and the staff to do small chores like fill up the togo sauce containers and refill the fish sauce dispensers.  However, I've seen these tables cleared and set lickety-split when the need arises and customers arrive.

As for the food - delicious, ginormous bowls of pho; plentiful and speedy combo plates.  When I'm not ordering pho, I always choose the plate with a mix of egg roll, friend shrimp, and charbroiled pork chop with rice.  Warning - the chop is perfectly cooked, and perfectly greasy and oily. Yum.  I also love that they offer a simple green vegetable and garlic sautee, like one of bok choy or Chinese broccoli...

After watching the Patriots perfect season go from Destined and "historical" and become meaningless and trivial totally got down and ate some spirit lifting pho here. All Pho can be is warm and nourishing and that's all I want it to be; it's a perfect relationship.
The restaurant looks clean but I have heard that they may not be as sanitary as it appears.
The waiters were attentive and good even though they thought water meant fork.

I came here on a friends recommendation and I'm glad I finally did it.  The food was really good and the service friendly.  The ambiance...well, there isn't any but I didn't really care.  My days of restaurants with ambiance are pretty much over since I have a three year old.  On that subject, this is a great place for people with kids.  The proprietor has two kids of his own and knows what parents deal with and is very helpful in distracting them.

3.5 stars.  Yummy Yummy probably gets a lot of the San Tung overflow (which is how I ended up there).  I really wanted to try the crab but the bf and I figured it was too much food.  We got the salt and pepper calamari -- a little too chewy for my taste, but I liked the flavor.  Pho is good, but the soup was a bit watered down for my taste.  Bean sprouts were super clean though AND they give you cilantro in addition to basil.

You walk into Yummy Yummy and there is this article with a comparison between Yummy Yummy and Slanted Door...I wonder why they're comparing the two? it doesn't have the high end restaurant feel, but it does live up to its name. Great local, family spot.

Recommendations: #4 - The regular pho, #14 curry chicken with noodle soup (add some siracha to spicen it up), #85 sizzling beef sauteed with onions and bell peppers, imperial rolls, and the rice plate with the 5-spiced chicken. Ok...I'm hungry now.

Oh Yummy x 2. If you're going to add that second yummy in your name, then you really better deliver. Sadly enough, I feel that they fall short and don't really deserve that second yummy.

When I lived in the Sunset, I was so excited that there was a pho place just minutes away. But that novelty soon wore off. Yummy squared is allright. But, the phrase, "Eh. I've had better" just continuously would run through my mind whenever I'd eat there--in terms of service and in terms of food. I just thought the broth of the pho was kinda oily, and whenever I'd ask for no onions in my pho, they just seemed so appalled and annoyed that I asked for a change.

And jah jah, I understand that's a huge part of pho but c'mon. cut me a break--I can't stand onions, folks. Which brings me to this: I've been to another Vietnamese restaurant a few blocks further down Irving, and their service is just significantly better and friendlier and their pho just tastes so much fresher. So maybe in comparison, Yummy x 2 just became "Average x 2"/"Eh, I Guess Yummy" in my brain.

Heh--imagine if they changed their name to that. Won't I feel satisfied?

This is the most unghetto pho place in the city and one of the only places that I would eat "bun rieu" red soup crab noddles....yummy yummy it really is.  They have two types of fried egg rolls.  Ask for the one with the rice paper skin, not the egg paper.

Come here for the sauteed crab with salt and pepper. The current market price is $25. It's not your typical Chinese version. It has a great mix of spices and ingredients. It's not overly salty and the crab is cooked perfectly so the crab meat is not dried out, but it taste rather fresh. I can't say if it's the best crab i've had, but it's definately good.

Everything else we had was just ordinary/ok/nothing too special  - fried egg rolls, pho with rare steak, tripe, meat balls, and tendon (big ass extra large portion good enough to share with two ppl if you are ordering appetizers), 5 spice chicken over rice (not as good as other 5 spice chickens i've had; better tasting at Pho Phu Quoc), and 5 spice chicken over vermicelli with peanuts.

Overall, i'd come back if I was in the area. Service is great; waiters/waitress are friendly. We got seated right away coming in on a Friday night around 6:30-6:45 pm. They speak Chinese here...neat!

My sister (HI, JUDY!) used to take me here all the time when she lived in the neighborhood. It still remains one of my favorite places to eat in the whole city. The food is cheap and yummy yummy. I usually order the rice plates, and could probably eat 2. Maybe because it's a little small, but more likely because I'm a little fat. A little.

The happening vibe says it all: You will eat well here. I'll admit that I've only tried a few things on the menu. But when a place is filled with eager diners all sporting enthusiastic body language, you know you've found something special. My favorite item is the vegetarian chow fun. The dish comes with a mound of fresh vegetables, stir-fried to perfection. The exceptional part is the chow fun, which is exudes a rich smoky flavor and almost grilled texture. I've never found this in any other chow fun dish.

My friend Mike took me here, and it was love that I felt for this restaurant.  The pho is absolutely delicious.  Better than any other pho I've had.  I tasted the broth without adding any sauce, and it was so good and sweet.  Actually that's the way my friend eats his.  The spring rolls are also delicious.  This place is always packed when I've come; parking is a bitch.  But believe me, well worth it.  Good place for kids and grown ups alike.

Standard order and I am aware these are mainly appetizers but oh so goot:

combination cabbage salad
grilled clams--I love this dish!  I can eat plates of these!
beef carpaccio
catfish in a claypot
three color mixed bean drink

They do good dried vermicelli with meats (bun).   I don't like the pho here as much and I think they do the other Vietnamese specialities so much better.   I think its 'Slanted Door' quality with larger portions and much more affordable.

The service is good and this is a family environment.  I think the brother owns the restaurant and the sisters help wait tables.  The owner is very friendly and makes it a point to greet people at their tables sometimes.

the only (-) is parking can be a challenge....

This is one of my favorite Vietnamese spots in the city.  Nice, clean environment and a very friendly wait staff.  I don't know what it is but to me, this restaurant has that "it" quality that makes it fun to eat there.  All the food is great and there is a ton of variety.  Excellent noodles (though the pho selection is a little limited), rice plates, crepes, and appetizers.  Large portions and good quality ingredients.  Hard to go wrong with anything here.  Things are a little pricier than most vietnamese restaurants and the parking sucks (thanks san tung!), but I think it is more than worth the price of admission.

Wow. A place that actually lives up to its name!

I was dragged here the first time - I'm not a city dweller so dinner in SF means a minimum 45 minute drive. But I went and oh my goodness did I eat up and eat well!

First of all it's a fun place to eat. The owners and employees don't take themselves too seriously. Wilson you are great!! Love that because every time I'm at Yummy Yummy it tends to be with a larrrrrrge group of loudmouths like me. We can laugh and have fun and the owners don't shush us.

On to the food:
Start with the Crunchy Rolls. I know they sound stupid and gimmicky but they are really fantastic.

Love love the Raw Beef Salad. Don't forget to use the lemons and dipping sauce.

The 5 Spice Chicken with Noodles is also wonderful but it's hard to share because the noonies tend to clump together a bit. As an alternative you can get the 5 Spice Chicken Wrap. It's messy but a lot easier to share.

The chow fun is also very good and a nice safe plate of tasties for someone who thinks they wouldn't like anything else on the menu.

Salt and Pepper Crab? OH MY GOD. Finger licking good. Seriously.

Skip dessert. It's not bad but the regular food is so good that there is no reason to save room for the sweets.

OK on to the other details:
Parking can be a bit lame but not terrible. Give yourself an extra 5 minutes for that.

If you don't have a reservation be prepared to wait. And you might have to wait outside. So go ahead and make that reservation.

They take credit cards.

Yummy yummy indeed!!

Yeah it totally had that seedy tacky Asian food place with the neon signs, yellow canopy and tacky decor (complete with fake crabs on the wall, Mickey Mouse lunar new year stuff, and mini NFL helmets!?!?!?)

Anyway, we were cold, and wanted to eat, and the crowds at this place made this seem like a safe choice, so we went in and faced the crowds. 5 minutes later we got a table (however, throughout the night, there was a steady stream of customers waiting).

The food was good (lots of choices, too a while to choose), and was served up super hot with the obligatory skewed asian accent. The prices were decent also and I really wanted to try the Crab cooked with beer in the clay pot or the clams cooked Vietnamese style.... mmmmm, next time!! Yummy yummy is DERIISHUS!!!

I used to be a regular here for many years.  The Pho was decent and their traditional vietnamese dishes were above average.  What made them a cut above the rest was a waitress that they had there.  She was about 5 foot four with shoulder length hair.  She was absolutely awesome.  Then she left.  The wife of the owner was obviously very sour about that and she made a comment that the waitress probably left to look for a husband.  WTF????!?!?!?!

I went yesterday with my fiance and mother.  We had Pho Tai, Bun Xeo, and Pork Chop over rice.  The Pho was decent.  It had the right amount of star anise, but not enough depth.  The soup needed a few more hours with the beef bones.  The Bun Xeo, egg omelet, was dry.  The filling was great though.  My fiance's pork chop was dry.  The egg cake was actually a bread pudding kind of deal... strange.  I must say that the fried egg rolls, cha gio, kicked major a$$.  It was delicious!

The service was slow and they weren't very nice to us at all.  Looks like the majority of the new service crew were new.  They were still figuring out the menu.

The name says it all -- I got the vermicelli with pork and imperial roll (bun) and it was good and filling. At some Vietnamese places, the vermicelli can be overwhelming in quantity and dry, but it was well-balanced with the toppings here. The owner was also nice -- he walked around and talked to the customers.

So it's been almost 7 or 8 years since I've been a regular at this joint.  I used to love coming here for the variety of Vietnamese food they have and for their great service.  Last night, the 4 of us went there for dinner.  My friends drove all the way from the East Bay and the only thing they were craving was Yummy Yummy.  We sat down and ordered 6 dishes.  One of them required rice paper wrapping and the other was their sour soup.  The waiter (possibly the most clueless waiter I've ever seen), brings out the hot water and rice paper FIRST, without the accompanying dish.  I thought it was odd, but figured it would pretty soon.  15 minutes pass by and the dish wasn't served yet.  By the time it did come, the water for the rice paper was completely cold and we had to ask for a new one.  When the waiter came back with it, he didn't even take the cold one away.  That's not a big deal, so we continue enjoying our food.

The soup comes in a small container that they serve with fire underneath, to keep it warm at your table.  We wait for 10 minutes and there were no bowls or spoons to serve the soup.  I wave down another waitress and apologizing profusely, she brings out the bowls, but no spoons.  She makes a 2nd trip with the spoons in hand.  Finally, we get to serve the soup.  All four of us take an initial taste and we all made faces at each other.  My cousin says, "isn't this supposed to be sour?  what do you taste?".  His girlfriend says, "sugar, lots and lots of sugar."  We all agree that the soup tastes like they dumped a pound of sugar into it.  We call the owner over and told him that the soup is too sweet for us.  He apologizes and says he'll be right back.  We thought he was going to bring us a new one.  No.  He comes back with a big bowl of clear liquid and before he pours all of it into our soup container, he says, "don't ask what this is".  We're a bit appalled at what he did, but continued to watch him.  He stirs all the liquid into the container and reheats the soup on our table.  After 10 minutes, he comes back to make sure we taste the "revised" version of the soup.  By then, we were already disgusted and completely lost our appetites.

We're sad to say that after so many years of coming here, that probably was the last time we'll go back.

Heard rave reviews of this place from a couple different sources, but I think they all went for crab dishes or something, which apparently this place specializes in.

I stopped in for lunch when I was in the neighborhood once and had bun cha gio thit nuong (Imperial rolls and BBQ pork over vermicelli) and while it was fine I didn't think it was anything particularly special. Prices were average and fair, ca phe sua da (iced coffee) was good.

My friend had the supersized (I can fit my head in the bowl) beef pho.  He said the noodle was a bit al dente.  I had spring rolls + grilled shrimp over noodles.  Everything was good except for the vinegar sauce.  It was too sweet and I poured the whole bowl in without tasting it first.
