I have been taking my dog here for years. 3 months ago my dog was groomed, $100 charge. He barely seemed like he had been washed & not clipped at all. We have been coming here for quite some time and the groomer did a great job, that time was not good. I chalked it up to the groomer having a bad day and let it slide. I was told the previous groomer quit and the manager had been doing the grooming.
Yesterday, had him groomed with specific instruction on what needed to be done & to call with questions or problems. I picked him up and he was brought (conveniently) out of the back door COMPLETELY SHAVED. My dog is a Wooly Malamute/Husky, these dogs should not be shaved. I called multiple times, only to receive a return call stating the manager was "busy" and would not take my call. I was told I am a bad dog owner, insulted and told they had no choice but to shave him. If that is the case, WHICH IT IS NOT, that is my choice to make and not YOURS.
My dog was at the vet 2 weeks ago for a procedure, teeth cleaning, & check up; and told that he is in great shape and a lovely dog, if he was in such bad shape that he had to be shaved, don't you think a vet would say something. HORRIBLE business owner/not accountable for his actions.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brandon Y.Salt Lake City, UT2182Dec 21, 2015
Horrible place all around. They should be closed down and not allowed to groom or board dogs. I have been there a few times when other people get their dogs back with bites on them, etc. We generally take our golden to get groomed and they seem to do a decent job. Today's experience was completely unprofessional. The owner, who is also the groomer was too busy to talk to my wife when we dropped off our 8 month old golden doodle. So, the person at the front desk took notes, supposedly. We specifically asked to keep our puppies hair nice and long for the winter to help her stay warm and because she looks adorable...we needed a minor trim and wash. When we picked her up she was completely shaved!
The owner was again too busy to talk with me and they offered me a free jacket for our puppy. I then called back when I got home and again the owner was too busy to talk to me. Worst of all the front desk staff were rude and kept saying they understood while also not allowing me to complete a sentence. Now my puppy looks like a 10 or 12 y/o dog and these are many months of puppy hair that were taken away from us. Worst of all they did not even do a good job of buzzing her hair as she has random patches of fur between her paws and chunks of hair taken out where they did leave it a bit longer.
Update only hours later:
Now the owner is insulting me on Facebook and does not have the common decency to call me and apologize, which was all I was asking for. They are saying that they will delete all my consumer reviews so that no one can hear about my experience. Wow, great customer service! Makes me wonder how many reviews have been deleted.
PS: you can see the great customer service and response from the owner below my review, unless he takes it off before others can view.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I was not there when dropped off. No picture was provided. Dogs fur was matted and I was not going to torture this dog to try to brush it out. Dog was groomed professionally and looked adorable plus customer was given a free sweater after being worried if dog would be cold now with a short clip. Paid for groom and left happy then went home and did this. Called back wanting a refund then threatened my employee verbally and also threatened to dispute the charge as well. This in nothing more than cyber slandering a great business and this review should be viewed as spam. Post will be removed tomorrow and this person will be put on probation for writing this incorrect review!

Awesome for big dogs!! We took our 150 pound Irish Wolf Hound in for a little trim around the back side but, her hair was so matted they talked us into the full grooming service. BEST DECISION EVER! They did the works: ears, nails, bath and a great job on a seriously long coat of hair. Great price, we expected to pay double what they charge here but, you can always leave a tip
We'll never go anywhere elseHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jim R.Sandy, UT135Jun 20, 2016
BEWARE!!!!!
This is not the former Dogs R Us. The owner passed away in February 2016 and all the awards and positive reviews DO NOT belong to this new company. They moved into the location but everything else is different.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melanie B.Salt Lake City, UT814Mar 14, 2015
I think this business needs to take an extensive course in customer service. My dog was attacked on the first day of a 3 night visit and the first I even hear of anything going on is in the morning I go to pick him up.
He was attacked from behind, and bitten twice. After the vet shaved and examined him, they found 2 puncture wounds right near his anus.
The owner left me a note stating that there was "crusty terds" all around him. And strongly suggested that his care was to blame. Stating that he was filthy and gross and that he came to the kennel that way. Sorry man. Not the case. He was having problem passing stool because he was injured from BEHIND.
The way Jeff deals with problems is embarrassing as a business owner. You can even see this by the way he responds to reviews on Yelp. There is no effort to solve problems or keep customers that may have an issue.
I was referred to Dogs R Us by several other owners and since then, all of them have had a negative experience.
I don't question that they care about animals, or that they treat dogs well. I question the ability of the owner to keep his cool in a difficult situation. I'm sure the response to this review will be no different.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Michelle B.Salt Lake City, UT159486Jul 7, 2015
While they were the cheapest in the valley I now know why.
I have been to pretty much every doggy day care in the valley. I must say unfortunately this is the worst. Too many dogs in a small area, dogs get hurt, irritated, and I have seen first-hand some workers literally grab the dogs by the collar and toss them back when trying to get out of the dog play area. The cameras never work ( shocking) and some workers just seem to hate their job. I'm all for having a bad day, but I pay money to have a my dog come here.
The owner is great, very nice and seems to care, but some of the other staff really need to work for the DMV or Post Office. I never used the grooming i have heard it's great.. But for daycare..Look elsewhere.... believe me....oh, and you can take the rest of free daycare days and give them away.. :) Thanks!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kayla G.Salt Lake City, UT59916714Mar 26, 2013
It saddens me to see such a low rating for such a fabulous business, with such a great staff. Upon moving to SLC from Long Beach, I literally chose this place on the random to groom my littlest princess, Brigitte the yorkie, and boy did I score! Every time I have ever called to make her an appointment, they always manage to work with my schedule and get her in as quickly as possible. She can be a bit shy around new people, but she always comes back to me just as happy as could be, and looking like royalty! I never managed to find a groomer in Long Beach that made me this happy, and I tried several. Briggie always came home shaken, and looking a hot mess. Lopsided ears... uneven face.. just not worth the money or time spent!
Besides the quality of grooming, it always seems like the dogs there for "Daycare" are having the best time... it kinda reminds me of little kids on the playground.. having a blast! The staff is the best- Jeff is always so kind and even has given us "insider info" on where to have my pup's teeth cleaned for MUCH less than the $300+ that I have been quoted many places elsewhere. Not once have I had any problems here... the ONE time, I just happened to say "wow, she's cut short!", not even saying in a negative way, he cut the price by HALF, automatically, no questions asked. Unreal. The price is already inexpensive compared to what I have paid in the past for the crappiest cuts you have ever seen. The point is, the process of having her groomed is quick, painless, and she comes home in the same mood, or BETTER, than when I dropped her off. And looking FAB! Like, literally strutting up to the door of the house, knowing she looks like the princess she is. Five stars all the way! Thank you, guys, for taking such good care of Briggie- we appreciate it just as much as she does!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Julie M.Salt Lake City, UT3125Mar 20, 2013
DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE! Like previous reviews I too purchased a groupon and thought I was getting a deal. When I took the dogs for a temperament test I also experienced employees yelling at the dogs to shut-up, which is not an effective training method. There was no offer of a tour of the facilities which I was a little wary of but thought it would be fine. I was out of town and had a friend drop my dogs off and she too mentioned how uneasy she felt leaving them there because the minute they went in the back she heard what sounded like a fight, not normal dogs playing.
My 2 dogs were boarding for a week in Feb 2013 and on the 4th day I got a phone call that my dog had suffered injuries from a dog bite and they asked if I would like him taken to a vet; of course that is what I would like. The owner left me a voicemail trying to dissuade me from a trip to the vet saying they would like to pour hydrogen peroxide on the wound and call it good. I insisted on the vet check where my dog ended up getting 3 staples and a bandage on his leg. From the looks of the bill my dog did not get any anesthetic for this painful procedure.
When we got home I took him to my family vet because the staples did not hold. He in fact needed stiches; my vet said staples were not appropriate for this deep wound on his leg. I feel that maybe the first trip to the vet was done as cheaply as possible instead of providing the highest level of care possible. Long story short my dog had to wear the cone of shame for 3 weeks while this healed. I was left wondering too if Dogs-r-us does not screen out aggressive dogs as well as they should or the dogs are fatigued and not monitored well. As Malinda has pointed out, I learned my lesson the first time and I will never take my dogs back here. If I had just spent the extra money for Camp Bow Wow in the end, after a $200 vet bill and 3 weeks of suffering for my dog, it would have been worth it as I am always happy with the service I have received there.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

This is the second negative review you have written for the same thing, it is just under a different name this time. Accidents happen, bites and scratches happen. Just like you read and signed in your contract! We at Dogs R Us never want a dog to get injured, but some times it happens. THEY ARE DOGS! And your dog was taken to the vet. I did not treat the injury incorrectly! The first vet did! Please quit trying to dis-credit my business any more than you already have...

Something significantly changed with this establishment and I'm really disappointed. I started taking my dogs here for boarding in 2011 and I was really impressed that for such an amazing price they took such good care of my dogs. When I called to check in and gave my dogs names they knew just who I was talking about and they were happy to give me updates. When I picked them up they looked great and seemed well.
The last 2 times I've taken my dogs in, the experience was really different. The person at the front desk when I dropped off and picked up wouldn't even refer to them by names- it was just the white one and the black one. I gave very specific instruction about their eating habits but he wouldn't write it down. When I picked them up they smelled horrid. The collars, leashes, blanket, toys, and even the bag with their food in it reeked of urine. Their hair was sticky and gross. I have NEVER picked up my dogs and had them in this extreme condition.
The first time I gave them the benefit of the doubt that this was one bad experience. But the second time was so bad I wouldn't even bother to wash their things. It all went in the trash. I still have prepaid punch passes for boarding that I won't use because I won't take my dogs back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adam G.Austin, TX225Jun 17, 2015
Took my dog in looking like a scrappy mess for a full groom and she came back looking amazing. The staff was friendly and professional.
