The cupcakes are very good, I'll give them that. The icing compliments its respective cake very well. I like picking these up as a treat for someone because of their cute appearance and precious packaging. However, I do not think the $3.25 per cupcake price tag is justified. I also would never wait more than 5 minutes for a cupcake from here. If I want a cupcake, I'm more likely to go down the street to Crumbs where the patrons and cupcakes aren't so pretentious.
I've had the Pumpkin twice and Black and White once. Both were absolutely delicious.
The cupcakes are sweet, and I'm usually not a fan of too-sweet things (Krispy Kremes make me sick) but for some reason I absolutely loved/devoured them. I disagree about them being dry, every time I've been they have been perfectly moist.
The store is small so if it's busy you have to wait in line outside as if you're waiting to get into a club (they keep the door closed to preserve freshness) but in my opinion its well worth the wait.
Looks like I need to try to Red Velvet now!
I LOVE sprinkles!! I've been here twice, evening on a weekday and around 3pm on a sunday. do not go on sunday!! i waited one hour in line, but it was worth it, because i had a cupcake gasm over the lemon cupcake.
the lemon cupcake is the best! i've only tried red velvet, black & white, vanilla milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and a couple of their montly specials... but lemon owns them all. i realy like the lemon-vanilla frosting. so so so good.
i'd come here more often if it wasn't such a drive. (one hour and then the hell that comes with the 405).
Dear Clients,
Apparently you saw my note about Snookie's Cookies, since the new trend has been to send us an obscene amount of Sprinkles Cupcakes. Now don't get me wrong, we appreciate your gratitude. However, any effort I have been making to eat semi-healthily has been completely ruined by your little scheme. It's not even the cupcakes themselves (which are quite honestly a little dry), it's just that they look so damn good and the frosting is amazing!
Next time, send a fruit basket.
Thanks,
Stef B.
Mother's Day weekend was not the best weekend to come and try this place. There was a super long line and I ended up waiting about 25 minutes to get some of those wonderful cupcakes. Despite the wait, I would come again.
However, the worst cupcake was the cinnamon sugar as it had no frosting on top and just cinnamon sugar. It was way too plain and a waste of money. One less star for that experience.
I did like the banana cupcake and the lemon cupcake though. The banana cupcake reminded me of banana bread, but with frosting on top. I also tried the red velvet flavor, which I thought was very good and I didn't think it was too sweet, just right for me. The black and white was okay and I wouldn't get it again. Overall, most of the cupcakes' cake was moist. Be sure to grab a cupcake menu card so you know which day of the week your favorite cupcakes are available.
If you have never had the Red Velvet cupcake, you haven't lived. The frosting alone is like 20 orgasms. I dock one star because the rest of the cupcakes are not as impressive to me as people make them out to be. And I'm not really into cupcakes, period. I've also never had to pay for a single one, so if I knew how much they cost I would probably dock more points. Lucky for me I work in a place where celebrities receive boxes of these things on a daily basis, but since when do people in Hollywood eat anyways, much less eat fatty ass pastries? And so they are passed down to the proles.

Yeah, poor. For $3.25 and 30 minutes, I expect to get blown.away.
The cakes look lovely and the frosting is delicious. The cakes themselves are on the lower end of mediocre - they were dry.
Better option: buy a dozen at Ralph's, stuff your face, giggle like a maniac. Pretend you're like the cool kids at Sprinkles.

I love posh food and I don't care who knows it. I don't mind spending $3.25 for a cupcake that I know was made with good quality ingredients and will taste absolutely amazing.
My favorite flavors include Milk Chocolate, Chai Latte, Coconut, Banana, Mocha, Red Velvet, Vanilla, Lemon, Peanut Butter and Carrot. Okay fine, those are all the flavors I've tasted and they're all my favorite. Oh and yes, I plan on tasting all of the flavors before I die.
The Frosting Shots are also a nice compliment for your cupcake when you've already eaten the top half and need more. I also plan on giving these cupcakes away in favor boxes at my wedding. At $5 per cupcake favor, it's worth every damn penny!

Anyone who knows me knows I have a love obsession with Sprinkles. What I do NOT have a love obsession with is the line (thanks a lot, Oprah--just one more thing in this world you have ruined).
I first started coming here when they just opened--and fell in love. For all the people who don't think the cupcakes are worth the cost, their taste buds are not tasting what mine are tasting. So worth every penny--I savor every inch of it. Now that there's a line almost all the time, I've stopped going as often (and my thighs thank me for it). However, if I do have a yearning for Sprinkles, I try to go during off times so there is no wait.
Bottom line: if you have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing a Sprinkles cupcake in your lifetime, you must. Go now.
Cupcake junkies this is the place to be =)
Red Velvet is tops by far. Yes, there is a line so go early or call in your order. It is great to bring a party. The packing is so chic and simple.
I would give Sprinkles an extra star but the pound of frosting is overkill. I always scoop half of it off.

Sprinkles has the best cupcakes I have ever had in my life.
The lines, cost and location make it a bit annoying to secure one of these heavenly little cakes, so I see them more as a special occasion sort of thing.
That said, I've eaten Sprinkles for breakfast, lunch and dinner before.
Yes, their frosting is really rich and they pile on a lot of it. So much so that I get a little light headed if I eat one, and even a bit sick to my stomach if i eat two, but has that ever stopped me? NO!

I was visiting LA for the weekend and of course, I cannot leave without bringing home Sprinkles cupcakes. We initially showed up at 4pm on a Saturday and the line was god-awful so we decided to wake up early on a Sunday morning (they open at 10am). There was literally no one there. The past few times, I just tried the Red Velvet and it has become my favorite but this time, I also tried the Flourless Cupcakes and Milk chocolate. The flourless cupcakes are equally good. I cannot wait for them to open a branch here in Palo Alto. God, please make it soon.

While these are passable, I CANNOT believe the hype these little Crisco buckets are receiving. People -- it's ALL shortening that makes these little buggers "moist" like you think. Really. I mean, there are amazing little bakeries all over this town that will BLOW YOUR MIND. Stop being sheep and try other places.
Thank you!

Crumbs has terrible service. With only five people in line behind us, the girl behind the counter stopped in the middle of packaging up our cupcakes to help someone behind us who didn't want to wait. So we had to wait for him to order and pay before completing our transation. There was no reason he couldn't wait, we only ordered four cupcakes. Their cupcakes might be larger than Sprinkles but from now on I'll go to Sprinkles.
After reading some of the reviews i guess the cupcakes could be really good but could depend on the batch.
I've never had a bad experience. I live a six hour drive away and anytime I make it down to socal I've always made it a point to stop by if i wasn't on a tight schedule. The cupcakes have always been moist. The only red velvet that i've tasted that was better was made by my sister from scratch (though i've heard there's a few more places in the area that i should try). I wasn't very impressed with the cinnamon sugar. The vanilla is very simple but good nonetheless.
I've also gone to the Newport Beach location. Beverly Hills was a WAAAAY better experience. The people were much friendlier and it seemed more genuine. If it wasn't genuine then the staff in Beverly Hills does a much better job at faking it than Newport Beach.
Did not get the big deal. They tasted like regular cupcakes.the place was nice and we didnt have to wait in line that long.I have the chai latte cupcake it was okay. no better than supermarket cupcakes.3.00 bucks a cupcake didnt bother me that much about the price of anywhere you would go for dessert.I just dont think theres anything special about them.

Why, yes. Yes, I will write the 460th review for this place. No effing exaggeration!
So for my very special birthday I wanted to try Sprinkles. Being a sucker for all sweet things baked with sugar and flour, I had to know what all of the fuss was about.
I'd heard about the line, of course. Who on Yelp doesn't know about the line at Sprinkles? But I thought, hey, it's Sunday at 5:30 in the evening. I'm sure there won't be a line. WRONG. Granted, it wasn't gargantuan, but it still took us 30 minutes to get in and get our cakes. I swore that no cup cake was worth standing in line for 30 minutes.
I opted for the Peanut Butter Chip, Black & White, and Vanilla with Milk Chocolate icing. I ate half of my PB Chip and finally realized what all the fuss was about. The freaking best cupcake I've ever eaten. I'd stand in line for an hour for those babies. It burns some calories after all, so that means you can eat two, right?

If I would have had access to these cupcakes growing up, I would have been an even chubbier kid than I was. But, then my Mom would never have paid $3+ per cupcake and plus her homemade stuff was better anyway. But....
Getting surprised with a plate of six different flavors on your birthday is pretty kick ass. Here's what I, er we, devoured in the last two days: Carrot, Red Velvet, Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Milk Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate. I haven't had a sugar rush like since I had six Mountain Dews one hot summer day as a kid!
Off to the treadmill I go.

Hearing about this place from so many tv shows, celebrities, etc., I just had to see what all the hoopla was about on a recent trip to L.A. When I finally found the place, the line was about 2 blocks long. I was determined, I waited. And boy am I glad I did. These are the best cupcakes I have ever had. So moist and delicious. And the frosting is so heavenly! I bought about 7 or 8 different kinds so I could try them all, and my favorite was the Vanilla......oh so good! I wish they would open a location in Atlanta!
Just adding to the many many reviews.
Awesome cupcakes! Favorites so far are red velvet and black/white. I think I'll try strawberry and the flourless chocolate ones next time.
Parking is hard - park in the lot adjacent to Rite Aid. It's free for one hour.
Lines, lines, lines! The other times I've been here, there were no lines. But alas, today there was a line and I waited 30 minutes to get in. The slowness has nothing to do with a legitimate reason (such as running out of cupcakes); it's the people! Standing there, pointing, deciding, asking what's in it, what are the favorites, hmmmm...I would like one, no two, red velvets...actually make it three. F*ck! Pick a damn cupcake; they are all good! And the people that work there - they're all nice but are delicately grabbing one cupcake at a time, placing it in the box, looking around like they couldn't remember if they turned off their coffee pot before going to work. F*ck!
Next time, if you know you're going, pre-order online or by phone. Those who did, walked in, walked out. Seriously, 3 minutes. They are allowed to cut in line!
Just be careful of the type who mistake you for the help and ask "can I just grab my bag or stand here?" WTF lady! "I don't know, I don't work here" as I roll my eyes at an African-American lady who is giving me the "look" and we both giggle!
I forgot...they make doggie cupcakes too. Picked one up for my dog - his birthday is Tuesday!

I'd never been a big fan of cupcakes in my life...............until I discovered Sprinkles. Chocolate and Pumpkin are my favorites.
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Pumpkin flavored cupcakes are available only on certain days of the week so check with their website before you go.
People may moan and groan and say all Sprinkles lovers are sell-outs or just don't know any better, but honestly, it's pretty darn good. They got the consistency right...for the cake batter, for the frosting. The "look" of the cupcakes is also very neat and cute and crisp. I've tried several well-known cupcakes in the past few months and Sprinkles is pretty up there on the ever-expanding cupcake totempole. My only gripe is the horrible parking and the price. But I guess you get what you pay for. Definitely a thumbs-up.
i LOVE sprinkles!
Cute shop with never-ending long lines.
Visually appealing cupcakes. Cute packaging. I would recommend the red velvet and banana vanilla cupcake.
Cute shop, long lines. Visually appealing cupcakes. Nice packaging. I tried a red velvet cupcake and a vanilla. I didn't finish either of them because the icing was way too sweet for my tastebuds. And the cake part was decent, but nothing amazing.
Red velvet with cream cheese frosting.
I AM RUINED.

Just simply amazing!! I have never had a cupcake like this. It's just different, especially the frosting. Everything in there just looked so cute and good. I just wanted to bring it all home! The cupcakes aren't too sweet just the way I like it but of course one too many then it will eventually be sweet because of the frosting.
Yes, there was a line the day I went but luckily my wait time wasn't too bad. It just sucks how we have to wait in the sun just like pink's hot dogs. The cupcakes maybe be a little overpriced but its not like I go often so it's not a big problem for me. Can't wait until I go to LA.
My local friends dragged my wife and I here after a big lunch at Roscoe's. Can you imagine going from fried chicken and waffles to this?? "WTF are we waiting in this stupid line for?" I asked. I felt like I was trying to get into Jet at Mirage or something.
I knew why after about 15 minutes. My friends told me just to get the Red Velvet cupcake but we ordered the strawberry, milk chocolate and the red velvet so we could sample a few. Although all of them were good, the red velvet was hands down the best. $3+ for each cupcake is no joke. I can't remember having better cupcakes.

Who stands in line for cupcakes? Apparently, a lot of people who want to eat these fluffy sugar bombs made fresh at Sprinkles. I went down to the popular spot in Beverly Hills and stood in line in between Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria. OK not really but being there in Beverly Hills there's always someone trying to act like a star.
The wait was OK for a Sunday afternoon, about 25 minutes from start to purchase. I bought a box of 4 consisting of dark chocolate, cinnamon sugar, peanut butter chip, and the ever-popular red velvet.
Considering that the clock on the freshness starts ticking as soon as you leave the door, I had to eat those cupcakes in a relatively short amount of time before they dried up and I had to use them as decorative paper weights. I had two immediately as I got home with the other two reserved for snacks later on that night.
I enjoyed the red velvet the most but each on my selections was high on the sweet meter. They should have a warning label on their boxes: May cause diabetes due to flooding of system with excessively high levels of sucrose and overwhelming insulin levels beyond repair.
I'll probably be back once my doctor approves the appropriate dosage of insulin for me to function normally again.

and somehow they are too oily while having semi dry texture at the same time...leaving you with a greasy fingers/dry mouth effect. i've had better cupcakes from a boxed mix.
i will admit though, that i do think they are quite pretty.

strawberry, banana, dark chocolate, milk chocolate and several others that i don't recall

Let's just say I've spent way too much time waiting on line, and then way too much money on their red velvet cupcakes.
But they are so good that I keep coming back for more. I don't even know why they bother creating other flavors- the only cupcake you need to get is the red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Please, do not order any other cupcake, as they do not do Sprinkle's justice.
Order 24 hours ahead online or through the phone so you can pick up and save some time waiting.
Ohh mama.
Everyone who watches reality tv knows about Sprinkles.
So imagine my satisfaction when I bit into a chocolatey cake-like cupcake with amazing coconut frosting.
Girlfriend.
We bought a box of cupcakes and after half a forkful of each I was ready for a cupcake filled dream.

Let us be clear here: not every Sprinkles cake is delicious, but the ones that are are irresistible.
Getting inside:
The parking is not too horrible, with those two-tiered inexpensive metered lots between Little Santa Monica Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd (2 fwy); the line can look incredibly long, but I've waited many times and at no point were they longer than 30 minutes.
The amazing cupcake flavors:
Red Velvet, 5/5 - (the frosting is key here and complements the red-tinted chocolate cupcake impeccably).
Peanut Butter, 4.5/5 - the frosting is a mixture of pb/chocolate with little sprinkles, and the cake itself is more like lightly peanut butter flavored with creamy chocolate chips and sprinkles on top. Imagine all those elements, and the best cake you can imagine is what you do get. Completely worthwhile, even if slightly formulaic.
The amazingly bad cupcakes:
Carrot - ughh, I'm picky about carrot cakes, and this one is completely underwhelming. It not only is bland but features lackluster frosting!
Cinnamon - there is no frosting on this one, and the cake is entirely bland! There is a light dusting of fine grained sugar on top, though.
As for the other flavors between amazingly bad and good, I think they're all pretty good. I guess it's hard to go wrong with those.
As an aside, I have no idea why all Sprinkles cupcakes feature a disgusting round candy (more of an attractive flavor identifier than any complement to the overall taste). I wish they would omit those, since I always spit them out.
On the way to airport, I noticed a long line of people waiting outside a seemingly closed store. Looking up at the sign, it was "Sprinkles", the mythical cupcake-nirvana. Since it was 10am on a Sunday morning, there was easy parking so I stopped to take a look....Yup, there were about 20 people guiltily waiting in line before the cupcakery had even opened! Anyway, after 10 mins they opened up and we duly shuffled inside in small groups (keep the door closed!). The cupcakes looked perfectly nice, but hardly overwhelming or original. I took four of the classics (vanilla, red velvet etc) and then had to high-tail it to LAX, as I'd spent 20 mins just waiting to get into Sprinkles.
Anyway, I forgot all about the cupcakes and back in SF later in that day, I found them looking a bit squished and unhappy. I wasn't especially in the mood for them either, but decide to try the coconut-chocolate one that had suffered the worst at the hands of United's overhead storage.....Wuh, Wuh, Wow! Are these good cupcakes? Essentially cupcake perfection, as it's hard to imagine how they could be better. The cake is light and airy, but still has a really strong flavor. The frosting is rich and not overly sweet. Sure, they're over-priced and the whole set up is annoying, but you have to be impressed that they do what they do as well as anyone.

My friends were performing a gig at a restaurant in Long Beach from 7-10pm, and I wanted to be able to surprise them with some Sprinkles Cupcakes to enjoy at the restaurant that night. We had talked about them a few weeks prior with someone who had reminded me of Sprinkles after hearing about these cupcakes a few years ago.
On the night of my friends' performance, it was my first time at Sprinkles. I knew that they would close at 7pm, and I had arrived only minutes before closing time. I had no idea there would be a line of about 10 people waiting to get in the door at that time! As I step up to the line, a Sprinkles employee walks out and cuts off the line right behind me and turns away everyone else who shows up! Luckily I had made it just in time. When I finally made it through the door, there were hardly any left on display, but thankfully I didn't waste a trip there since they actually had several left in the back. I chose the following: 1 Red Velvet, 1 Ginger Lemon, 1 Coconut, and 1 Black & White.
My friends had the idea of recording our reactions of trying these cupcakes for the first time on their cell phone, and that recording can be heard in one of their podcasts (you can advance to the 31min - 42min mark): http://makena.libsyn.c...
(webpage contains an iTunes podcast link & a direct download mp3 is available)
After their gig, we all tried each of the cupcakes (we also had one of the chefs at the restaurant try some for a professional opinion), and my friends' reactions are so much better in the audio than what I can express through writing here. We all loved them for their appearance, freshness, and quality (such as the Coconut one having fresh coconut shavings sprinkled on the icing) and I was personally surprised that the frosting for each of them wasn't as sweet as I had imagined. Cupcakes were also very moist and not dry, like the kind you'd buy at your local supermarket that were probably sitting in the bakery for too long, or for several days.
About a month later, I decided to order a dozen for all of us to try, including some friends visiting from Singapore who were looking forward to trying these. Since I had thankfully discovered that orders could be placed online, I gladly used this method instead of having to wait in line again, or take the risk that they may have sold out of certain flavors by the time I had arrived. We were able to try several other flavors including Banana, Carrot, Cinnamon Sugar, Dark Chocolate, Lemon, and Vanilla Milk Chocolate. The Cinnamon Sugar and Lemon ones were my favorite, as well as a few of my friends' favorites too. The Red Velvet was another favorite, as most others who have tried Sprinkles would agree. Since then, I've also been able to try a few of their holiday flavors (Orange-Cranberry, Ginger Maple, Vanilla Peppermint -- in which I only liked the Ginger Maple) as well as their Strawberry flavor which Siena and I claimed was our absolute favorite... even better than the Red Velvet.
4 stars to Sprinkles for creating cupcakes with great ingredients, helping to bring excitement, joy, laughter and good times among friends, offering several different flavors (something for everyone), providing excellent cupcakes that I can bring to parties, and for not being anywhere conveniently close to where I live so I won't be tempted to order them too often and gain a ton of weight!

Cupcakes done right - simple. I went on a crazy binge and visited this place four weekends in a row and I still miss it! Easily some of the tastiest cupcakes you'll ever run into. They're soft, moist and full of flavor. When you get a strawberry cupcake, the sh*t tastes like strawberries. Their flavors run a wide range and everyone should be able to find at least one as their favorite. You really can't go wrong on any of their flavors, Strawberry, Lemon, Red Velvet, Pumpkin, Carrot...etc. I could go on for forever about this place.
Are there cons about this place? Depends on the person really. If you don't mind waiting, then you'll be in for a great treat after your wait. The lines can sometimes take up to 45 minutes over the weekends, but you can sometimes get lucky and just wait a minute or two. If you really enjoy them, then the wait is well worth it once you sink your teeth into one. As the immortal Frank the Tank once said "Once it hits your lips, it's so good!" The price runs from 3 to 3.25 depending on how many you buy. Some people might find it absurd to spend that much, but the cupcakes over at Crumbs down the street are more expensive (they're bigger, but not tastier).
Tip - Know before you go - Certain flavors are available only on certain days, nothing pisses me off more than going in expecting to dig in to a lemon cupcake and find out they don't have it that day. ;)
"Just because there's a line outside doesn't mean it's good" - Whoever said that about Sprinkles is a boob.
