So I made the trek down to Tukwila yesterday to check out the newly remodeled Southcenter.  There's definitely a lot to see there!  It took a few hours to see the whole thing since there are something like 75 new stores.  Unfortunately, though, I wasn't impressed by the stores that have come in there.  The H&M has a significantly smaller selection than other ones I've visited, as does the Nordstrom.  The food court is really cool-looking, but it took forever for my friend to get her meal, and I had about the worst gyro ever there.

Heard that this mall is new or grand re-opening or something. I must say that I am impressed with the layout of the mall. A 3-story building mall with AMC at the very top level. This mall has a lot of the big brand name stores.

I personally really like their Forever 21 store though, or XXI is what it is there. It's 2 stories with lots and lots and lots of clothes. The BIGGEST Forever 21 store I've been to. They also have a big 2-story H&M store. Other stores such as Bare Escentuals, MAC, Sephora, Buckle, Victoria's Secret... you name it.

*Parking is a b*tch though...

Never go here during the weekends, especially during the afternoon.

Parking is horrible and congested, there was traffic all the way from the freeway. Stores and malls are way too overcrowded.

Why on earth would you try going to a "brand new" mall on one of the very first weekends after it opened? Is it going to be retardedly busy? DUH.

This is the closest and most convenient shopping center to my place in West Seattle (other than Westwood) and though it can be a cluster, I'd rather stick a fork in my eyeball than head over to Bellevue to go shopping. Northgate isn't any more convenient for me either.

Give it a few weeks, let the hoopla die down or just try it after 7 PM or so during the week - I didn't have any problems and it was within a week of the grand opening...

So....Calm down, take deep breaths and enjoy the new stores.

Up until this weekend, the last time I headed to the Southcenter Mall was about 6 months ago, when I was still working in the area.  And the old mall was so-so; it had Nordstrom and a few other stores I would visit (including the world's smallest Apple store).  I've driven by on the way home from the airport, so I've caught sightings of the new construction, but never really new the extent of the changes.

Wow.  This place has gotten a LOT nicer.  Carpeted walkways, a new food court, parking garages...  There are a lot of new stores - higher-end stores such as Banana Republic and Coach that I would have never thought would be here.  There is also the new AMC theater and several restaurants.  Now if only I still worked in this neck of the woods...

Despite the crowds, parking was not too bad.  We were able to find a space in the garage without much trouble.  There were definitely a lot of people coming and going.  I wasn't a fan of the large crowds, but then again, I just don't like crowded areas in general.  I'm sure that most of the crowds are due to the new grand reopening a few weeks ago, and the newness hasn't worn off yet.  Plus, it was a Saturday afternoon; I'm pretty sure that there are decent crowds at Bellevue Square as well.

The new and WAY improved Southcenter mall is tant mieux or the bomb dot com.

The dining options alone make it a thousand times better. I can't hate on a Joey's, Blue C, Racha, Duke's, Red Mango, hell even Cheesecake Factory, all within 10 min of the crib.

I came to check it out tonight since I had to return a dress at Banana Republic, a new addition to the mall as well. Ok, and because I'm 13 and wanted to see the shiny, new mall!

The first thing I see after entering through JC Penny is the highly lauded H&M. I had to stop in, even though I fucking hate H&M. There, I said it. Of course I found nothing. Next stop was the ginormous XXI Forever (a Forever 21 flagship store). I have to give them props. The store was neat (shock), fairly clean and the staff was helpful. I saw a few items I liked in their Heritage Collection which I had not seen before. I wound up buying nothing but I will be back.

Next I hit up BR for my return and I will say this store is pretty bunk. I think I'll stick to the downtown location for my purchases. There are a lot of new stores; Coach, MAC and Sephora being most notable to me. They even had a Delia's! I remember their catalog from back in high school. This is the first mall in the Puget Sound region to remind me of the ones back home in Socal.  I am just happy they stepped their game up.

Overall I'm not a huge fan of malls, but in the words of the late Tupac, "I ain't mad at cha." All the haters might want to check out the new digs and reevaluate.

Revamped Southcenter mall is as good as it gets. After the expansion with new stores spread across the new space, southcenter is probably one of the better malls that we have in WA...well hmmmm except for Bellevue Square (gotta represent where I grew up). Anyways, there are stores such as MAC, XXI (forever21), Pink, Jujubes, H&M to name a few...some of the better shoppings (people on a budget)...you can find here...The new wing has two floors filled with cool stores, it makes me feel like I'm shopping in a different state..I'm just disappointed that all the stores were placed all the way in Tukwila and not somewhere close to DT Seattle or Bellevue. :(

I absolutely abhor malls, but I have to pay homage to Southcenter- the mall that started it all for me because today was the grand opening of the new Westfield Southcenter.

But, unfortunately, there was nothing GRAND about it.

You actually feel like you're time-warping because half the mall looks like it was built in the 1980s and the rest  looks modern contemporary.

It takes oh, about 1 hour to go through all the stores in the new section; and there's really nothing special or eye catching about it because what I've seen here at this Westfield, I've seen at Northgate, and Lynnwood, and Olympia; with little "filler" stores here and there. Nothing impressive, nothing where I feel like this Westfield sets itself apart from other shopping centers.

*With the exception of a teeth-whitening kiosk. Now that's bold.

If you've never been to this mall, you can't miss it,  the new section of the mall holds a state of the art AMC theatre, which practically hogs all of the downtown Tukwila skyline

Despite the millions of dollars they spent "improving" ugh, excuse me while I choke on my words, this place it still sucks ass!  Atleast 1 person will be shot in the parking lot and keep the tradition alive.  This is southcenter, why they would spend so much money to make the armpit of seattle a destination for shopping is beyond me.

Traffic here sucks, dont come unless you plan on spending about an hour getting into and out of the parking lot.  I will go brave Bell Square or downtown before I shop here, and I live 10 minutes away from southcenter.

Holy hell, the parking lots are an absolute nightmare. Stand-still traffic, rude people blocking the entrances and exits to the rows- it's enough to make you want to pull your hair out.

If you can manage to find a spot on a Saturday afternoon, and don't mind the throngs of people wandering in a seemingly aimless manner, then I highly suggest you check out the H&M, Forever XXI and other cheap clothing stores for some fun additions to your wardrobe.

Otherwise, I suggest you avoid Southcenter like the plague.

My only grip about the new Southcenter Mall is the food court. Why are there so many asian eateries? Do we really need three of them? Where's MCdonalds? Taco Time? Cinnabon? Did I miss any of these? Geez!

I recently visited Joeys at Southcenter Mall. I'm a bartender/cocktailer at a very popular restaurant in the area and I was extremely disappointed in the service I received. My friends and I sat at the bar and were greeted with a "hello" by three of the bartenders without being offered a drink. Eventually we got our drinks, and they were great. Another friend joined so we moved to the other side of the bar and were not acknowledged for at least another ten minutes. We were hungry and knew what we wanted to order, yet, not one of the six bartenders that walked by us payed an ounce of attention. Finally, one of the bartenders asked if my friend wanted to order food, so he did, and she immediately walked away without asking the rest of us if we wanted anything. It seemed as if none of these bartenders knew what they were doing, granted, they were all very good looking, but good looking doesn't mean you have experience. The highlight of our experience was the food. We had the chicken and rib combo and it was amazing, our compliments to the chef. I have never commented on service or food, but I was looking forward to my experience at Joeys and was dissapointed with the service, only because the restaurant is so beautiful and the experience is less than okay.

Southcenter Mall's signposted from the I-5 and I-405 but the signs disappear quite quickly once you leave the freeways. Fortunately, I had consulted on-line mapping websites and was able to navigate to it but be careful - it's only a few minutes off the freeway.

It looks large from the outside but I was a little disappointed with the number of shops on the inside. However, there is a huge expansion planned to open this summer which will add a lot of retail shops as well as a cinema. So worth another visit after this happens.

Being from England, I'm not aware of the local neighbouhoods around Seattle but I suspect Tukwila isn't one of the more salubrious areas!

this shopping center reminds me of a smaller version of Westfield Valley faire in San Jose, CA. In fact they are expanding Southcenter so it will look like Valley fair - except 1/2 the size since its only 1 level. Feels a bit cramped. The mix of department stores is okay though they could use more. The only thing i liked about this mall is the Macy's. Parking here is a bitch and so is traffic. The stores are also really tiny - like the apple store is really small. Oh and they have some stupid sign on the doors not to take pictures - it's a mall and guess what are you going to ban cell phones with cameras?

If you want to feel like you're going to get beat up for looking the wrong way or having a smile on your face this is the mall for you.  If you want to take 10 minutes or more to find parking this is the mall for you.  I stopped going in the mall part of the mall a long time ago and only hit up Nordstrom or Macy's and that's only when I'm looking for something the downtown stores don't have and they've put it on hold for me at one of these stores.  It's a scary mall so if your a punk and looking to get into a fight this might be the place for you but it's not the place for me.

This was one of the worst malls I have been too. When Westfield comes to mind, you think of quality and cleanliness. This mall proved to the contrary. Parking was an absolute nightmare. I am not from Seattle, so maybe I am spoiled by malls in California, but this one was cramed with too many shoe stores and the Nordstrom even wasn't up to par. The people that worked there were really friendly though!

Well, this mall is currently (Feb 1, 2007) undergoing large amounts of construction and expansion, like every other mall in the area. I guess they're freaking out because of the new shopping area that may or may not open near Boeing, a mere three miles away.

Parking went from bad to truly hellish in a matter of weeks - navigating this parking lot is simply too much for me to handle anymore. I used to run in to get the things I needed, and Macy's can always be counted on for some good, cheap costume jewelry, but it just isn't worth the time investment now.

Once they are finished adding the 600 or so new stores, this place will either be great or completely impossible. I agree with the reviewer who suggested shuttles - that would be a nice touch.

I figured to do a review on the enitre Southcenter area... which is a joke. For the size of the area, any idiotic planner would have established North/South/East parking lots and have shuttles service the area which would be subsidized by the businesses. But no, car crazy Seattle apparently objects to rational thinking. To get from say Bank of America on the north side to Les Schwab on the south end, it would take you 10-15 minutes (only about 3-4 miles) in normal traffic, 20-25 mins on a weekend/rush hour and possibly an hour if you were crazy enough to be out during December... Other than the traffic, nothing exiting except for Acme Bowl, probably the only thing not worth bulldozing down there

Grrr.  I hate this place.  I hate it a lot... I recently spent 30 minutes trying to get out of the parking lot.

Actually, I really, Really, REALLY hate this place.  Too many people, too many cars, too many teenagers roaming around, too much construction, too much traffic.

Why would anyone choose to go here?  You can find everything somewhere else!

This is a pretty generic mall. I would avoid it unless you know you want to go to a specific store there. The traffic is too much of a hassle for what's there.

As far as malls go, Southcenter is pretty standard. It's a bit dangerous in the evenings, and security is a joke. There are a few gems - energy drinks in the soda machine, Apple Store, massage kiosk, and good cheap sandwiches at the bubble tea place. As has been mentioned. Don't go here unless you have a specific destination.

Another standard issue mall.  Nordstrom, Macy's and the like hold this down.  There is a Rainforest Cafe in this mall which is an event for the kids but that's a separate review.  A little tricky entering and exiting from I-5 into this Mall near the airport.
