Went on a "happy family" run today, courtesy of MG. Thanks, MG! Ordered the sizzling rice soup--have never had that, and it was good. Not overly salty or anything. The Shrimp house special is fabulous! Somewhere between sweet and sour shrimp, and something else. It WAS special! And finally, the mu shu pork. It was new to Holi, and she was working that plum sauce! It was good.

Good service, and fast (1 hour 20 minutes for entire trip--I'd say 20 minutes for the ridiculously slow drive back down Broadway)! Yum!

Slight update--took leftovers home to hubby, and was on the phone while he "shared" them with me...there was practically nothing left. The mu shu pork, baby...nothing left.

Get the House Shrimp Special... you won't regret it. I get it every time I go to this place. The place is a little small and getting to the bathroom is a little adventure... you have to go through the kitchen to get to it!

i admittedly only get the same 3 or 4 dishes, but the mu shu pork and house shrimp alone are really worth the 5 stars.

I found this spot thanks to Harry Bosch (aka the LAPD detective of Michael Connely's novels).  I was on a bit of a LA noir kick this summer and Connely has a knack for mixing in real LA locales (ex: The Short Stop in Echo Park) where cops hang out.  Sadly, no gumshoes were present on my visit but the shrimp fried rice was awesome.  The pork chops weren't bad but I'd probably order somthing else next time.  Also, what's up with calling the neighborhood Elysian Park?  This spot is solidly in Chinatown.

TOTAL hole in the wall...  at the end of chinatown (on broadway)... i swear, it took me 2x to find this place... ALONE...like, RIGHT before the traffic light... if you pass the traffic light (next to some underground parking), then you passed it!  like literally, i busted a u-y like 3x? ugh, donchu hate that? i only KNEW of this place because a friend took me... better to take someone witchu so you can drive while they look for the sign.

parkin is just right nxt to the restaurant, underground parking (plenty, too!)

super friendly people... place is average, not super clean, but clean enough... prices are super duper cheap! less than $10!

what i ordered, was some stir fried dish and mushu pork... i was super pleased with my mu shu pork.. me want some more. ok, i have to get back to work, or "pretend" to... i'll update later in what i eat for dinner...

I went here once with my dad because my dad said this place used to cook really good, authentic Mandarin cuisine. Sadly, the food has gone down in quality, possibly due to change in ownership.

They still do have many of the Mandarin dishes, some even from China, but the problem is that they don't know how to cook it right. I definitely saw the potential, but the taste was little off. Either too bland or too buttery.
