J's is the best custard I've ever had. I recently moved to Lubbock and heard the fuss about J's and it is all warranted!
Great service, excellent concretes and wonderful flavors. I bet this place does the business in July!
And I'm happy to say that I will at J's in July and all the other months. DQ Blizzards don't even compare.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1109372104Mar 15, 20241 check-in
I just happened to be in the area paying a visit to my bank when, what's this? Ice cream just a walk away across the parking lot? And the sign says they've got salty Oreo, one of my most obscurely favorite ice cream flavors in the world? I'm in!
Ever since moving here from a much larger city back east, there's been a hole in my heart where high quality, local ice cream once resided. Particularly where the aforementioned flavor once resided. Here, I was not disappointed. They serve it primarily as a "concrete". This is basically what us commoners know as the Dairy Queen Blizzard. It's somewhere between hand scooped and milkshake, but it's not falling out or spilling when turned upside down.
The quality of this ice cream is unmatched by anything I've ever had before in Lubbock. They have plenty of other flavors and styles to choose from, but I know exactly which one I will always come back for. Service was very friendly and with a smile. Prices are on the higher side ($6 for a medium concrete) but reflective of the quality. I love the spacious covered patio and the outdoor only seating style. No doubt it will be poppin' in summer, so get it now and beat the rush.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 10, 2023
On my most recent trip to Lubbock, my son suggested we come to J's Creamery for a little after dinner treat. It was a little out of the way from where we were, but it was totally worth the trip. This little stand alone shop had a steady line in the drive thru and well as the walk up window. There is no dine in option, but more of a hang out outside of the establishment on one of their benches type place. The employees looked like a bunch of young kids, but they were professional and courtesy. Service was slow, but the place was busy and they do make each item when ordered.
What they are known for is their made to order custards. They have sundaes, shakes, frappes, concretes, smoothies and drinks. I went with a concrete which is custard with added mix ins of your choice blended together. My concrete of choice was the Brownie Bling which came with vanilla custard, peanut butter, brownie bites and hot fudge. That first bite had my eyes rolling back into my head. It was so delicious! The smooth, velvety custard with the combination of peanut butter and brownies was the perfect bite if there ever was one. I don't know how they blended it that perfect where every scoop had all the ingredients. I tore that thing up and had to force myself back into the car and not buy another one. I have always liked custards, but this was one of the better ones I have had. I definitely want to check out some of their fruity concretes as well as other items.
I hate that I just found out about this place during my son's junior year at Tech. I could've been coming here on every trip. Now I'll just have to come on every last trip of his senior year. Can't wait for the next trip!Helpful 27Thanks 2Love this 24Oh no 0 - Dave T.TX, TX22314Oct 18, 2023
My visit to J's Creamery in Lubbock, Texas left me with mixed feelings. When we tried to order a size small, we were disappointed to hear that they didn't have that option, which is unfortunate for those looking for a more modest serving.
I opted for two pumpkin pie concretes, and while the taste was truly impeccable, the price left a bitter taste in my mouth. At a bit over $15 for these treats, it's not the most budget-friendly ice cream spot around. The flavors were delightful, but the cost was hard to swallow.
In summary, if you're willing to splurge for high-quality, delicious ice cream, J's Creamery won't disappoint. However, for those seeking more affordable options, it might not be the ideal choice.
Sincerely,
Dining with DaveHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan F.Lubbock, TX21134167May 10, 2023
Stopped by with a party of five late on a Saturday night. The drive through and the walk up window were busy. Decided to walk up, and we were able to place our order quickly. There was a little wait to receive our order, but not bad considering the crowd. They got everything correct and it was delicious. There were plenty of benches and rocks to sit on while we waited too.

I love J's! My favorite is the dirt n worms or caramel macchiato concrete with chocolate shavings. The employees are always friendly! Great place to get dessert!
