Saturday was moving day. My girl friends came to town and helped me haul my furniture to my new apartment and after some lazying around we wanted a good place to relax, catch up, gossip, and get some good wine.

We wandered into Bricco, having no set expectations since I'm new to the area. The ambiance is warm with low lighting, candles, dark wood and a cozy seating area. The waiters were kind and attentive, and the food was excellent. We had a cheese plate, salad, pork chop and several desserts, as well as a tasty blend wine. It was a perfect evening. I plan to return soon!

P.S. Their affogato is the best!

Had a lot of fun here on a Saturday night w/ friends!

Laughs & conversation over a bottle of red wine! Always good times w/ that. :) Yummy caprese salad- Love tomatoes, mozzarella & basil drizzled in olive oil. Panini sandwiches with Salumi Meats! And had an excellent dessert as well~

If your looking for a low key night w/ friends- I really enjoyed this place.

I will never set foot in this joint again.

Over a year ago. my friends and I stopped in for some wine and cheese.  Our server only had eyes for the table of 'Ryan Seacret' drones sitting at the next table.  After I got up to get the vinegar myself and made an over-the-shoulder comment that our server was too busy when asked why I got the vinegr myself.  Then 'vp of wine' came over, yelled at us and made a huge scene.

I'm sure they treat other patrons well enough - but 30 minutes in that joint was more than enough for me.

I like places that make me feel like I'm in Europe.
I like cheese plates as an appetizer and I like it when the waiter can pick out a few I'll like.
I like a really well priced wine list, with great wine.
I like sharing everything.

With a list of like just like that Bricco meets and exceeds.

Only warning is regarding the tables. If you stray your glance a few degrees away from your companion's face you're going to be looking at the folks at the table next door.  The tables are CLOSE, so mind your conversation topics!

Talk about a generous meat and cheese plate. We went here to kill some time before getting a table at How To Cook A Wolf. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was suggested to us by the waitress. The wine was light and easy, and the food was fab. We got 3 meats, 2 cheeses, two jams, mustard, and plenty of nicely toasted baguette bread.

The Humboldt Fog is amazing, we went to the Metropolitan Market to see if they had any on our way back to HTCAW. And the Salumi cured meats are better than perfect!

Bricco is value, and class!

Last time we were in town I was asked:
"Well...what exactly do you want to do?"
I replied
"Cheese or small bites and a kick ass wine selection."

ahh we arrive at Bricco...
Loved out entire expirience enjoyed the smoked salmon bruschetta and meats from Salumi and a perfect selection of soft and hard cheese. We had a bottle of Soos Creek Soleil which was priced well.
I hate when wine prices get all hiked up just because they think that people won't realize how much the bottle REALLY costs.

Can't wait to go back. But note that they hold kind-of funky hours so i'd call first. Enjoy!

Bricco automatically gets five stars for not kicking us out or pestering us after we had waited there for over half an hour for a friend to join us before ordering anything.  We were sent there by the owner/chef of How to Cook a Wolf down the street for appetizers since they had a 2 hour wait, and we figured, if Ethan Stowell recommends it, then it's gotta be good.

First thing I noticed was all the wine.  Of course, it's a wine bar!  But still, impressive.  Then there was the cheese menu, impressive as well.  They apparently change their menu daily, and they had 30 different kinds of cheeses on their menu, all with short, but extremely helpful and succinct descriptions.  They also have an assortment of cured meats that you can mix and match with the cheeses for a small discount.

The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice.  Very relaxing and romantic.  The staff was not in a hurry to rush us out.  We ended up ordering one of each of their appetizers and they all came out in a timely manner.  The bruschetta wasn't very memorable, nor were the olives (but that's because I'm not a huge fan of olives to begin with), but the polenta, ooooh, the polenta!

It was topped with fresh mozzarella and basil, and drenched in the most ~*heavenly*~ marinara sauce.  When the polenta was gone, my friends and I couldn't help but lap up the sauce with the bread that came with the olives, and when the bread was gone, my friend took a spoon to it, soup-style.

Had How to Cook a Wolf not called us back to tell us that our table was ready, we probably would've ordered a couple more, plus tried some of their entrees, but there's always next time.  I look forward to coming back to sample their wine and cheeses the next time I'm in town!

I love this place. Can be hard to get a seat, and some of the meats and cheeses can be expensive, but you can get a surprisingly good meal here fairly reasonably. Devon is hands down my fav bartender. I just wish the El Jefe Hefeweizen did not run out so fast! The people overall are pleasant, and I have made some great friends just chatting with strangers at the bar. The occasional jerk or biatch as any place, but that is the exception and NOT the rule here. I recommend it. Great wines, great service and a nice time to be had.

Moving back to Seattle, I was very happy to see a number of new wine bars, and Bricco is definitely one of the best of the bunch.  The space is fairly small, but our party of three found a spot at the bar quickly.  The high ceilings, large windows, dim lights, and dark woods, gives this place a sophisticated urban vibe, with a full room of people enjoying the evening.

The wine list focuses on bottles from Italy and the Northwest, while the wines by the glass list has many choices from France and Italy.  I'm about a huge fan of WA state wines, but it was good to see some nice choices from the Old World for a change of pace.

Although Bricco serves a full dinner, our party stuck to wine, meats, and cheese, and we were not disappointed.  The menu has about 30 different types of cheese, including some of my faves like Humboldt fog, sottocenere, truffle tremor and comte.  The selection of salami was also impressive including a number of choices from Salumi.  I was happy to see they had culatello, although I prefer to have it sliced paper thin like at Lark.

Overall, Bricco is a great place where wine, food, atmosphere, and service all come together.  Now, only if they would open a location in South Lake Union...

This is hands-down my favorite restaurant in Seattle.  Maybe the world.

The people at Bricco just get it.  This wood-panelled wine bar has perfect ambiance, character and EXCELLENT food.  It's the kind of place where you want to take all your friends and then take all the credit when everyone loves it.

I've been here several times with friends (MWAHAHA THE CREDIT) and we always enjoy the experience - soft lighting, casual, slick atmosphere, and a menu that doesn't lie.  The quality of the food speaks for itself, and only seemed to enhance our conversation.  Their lasagna is the next best thing to homemade.  My house salad was tastefully composed - fresh greens, ample portions, and minimalist dressing.  The cheese plate we ordered had superb texture and was served with apricot chutney on the side - a perfect and well thought-out complement.  The palette of flavor was only heightened by the Kir Ianni wine.

No more do you need to lower your expectations!  But the experience at Bricco will tell you that itself.

Have only been here once but plan to go back. Great meat and cheese plate. Great wine. Great staff. They definitely make an effort to make you feel at home despite being busy. I'm not a wine expert and really appreciated the help I was given in selecting a wine. No pretension or condescension.

Places like Bricco make me happy.

I feel like I'm echoing the yelps on this place, but I couldn't resist adding my approval.  The ambiance, the fact that waitstaff can be friendly even during busy times, the lovely and delicious food and wine... all things that Bricco excels at, and exactly what so many places are sorely lacking!

I rarely visit the top of Queen Anne  since Pete's went out of business,  but  the caprese panini and the cheese and meat plate our server chose was above and beyond what you would expect - the most uniquely flavored salami I've ever had.  And I don't even LIKE salami.  Maybe it was all the wine. :)

Go!

I really liked this little wine bar on Queen Anne Hill. They have a huge selection of wine and cheese. The wait staff is really friendly and makes you feel super at ease. They ask you what type of wine you like and then bring you something to match your taste. Now, I have not met a cheese I didn't like, but this place seems to specialize in goat cheese, my favorite! I would def recommend a trip to Bricco!

I haven't given a serious 5 star review in a while, so here we go...

Great, knowledgeable staff. Bustling, but intimate, atmosphere.  A superb and extensive wine selection (as you might expect).

And then there's the food. The four of us split:

The house salad (and it is large),
3 Bruschetta (tuna, pesto and sweet onion/goat cheese)
Caprese Panini

Very filling and very delicious food. The pesto bruschetta was fucking amazing (pardon my Italian!). I'm serious, if it wouldn't cause an issue with my SO (or any city/state/federal laws), I'd have a hot and delicious love affair with that pesto brushcetta.

For better or worse, our waiter looked like Zach Galifianakis:

this is a cute spot in queen anne. the mood is romantic but with good energy.

bricco has one of the better cheese menus in seattle. i tried a few and was pleased. for an entree, i ordered the vegetarian lasagne. the portion was huge, but as far as a dish, it was not anything special. my friend got the beet salad. this was a good dish... a good combination of flavors.

overall, it's a fine place. not great, not bad. the entree list is quite limited, so for meals, i don't think i will come back. the wine list is nice, so if i'm in the mood for some wine and cheese, this spot is definitely a good option.

This is just what upper Queen Anne needed.  Or maybe I'm just being self-centered.  I love a well-endowed wine-list, a good tapas menu, a wide range of cheeses...Bricco offers all of that and more.  If you get there early enough, I recommend sitting at the bar.  But I have been to Bricco and been seated at a table, and had a wonderfully delicious experience.  If you're in a hurry to get something to eat, Trader Joe's is around the corner.  A good wine bar is about enjoying the company, enjoying the relaxation and of course, enjoying the magnificent wine.  After a long day at work, relax at Bricco.  We all deserve it.

I find it amazing with so many fine wines in the world this place has missed them all.  The wine we did try was too young and I cannot believe that anyone actually tasted it.  This is a great poser place passing for a wine bar.  It did look like it had some decent cheeses, but the waitstaff was so slow and confused we never had the chance to try them.  The good news they can be purchased across the street at Metropolitan market.  Take my advice go there get a better bottle of wine and service and take them home.  Leave this place to the people who do not know anything about wine so they can feel tragically hip.

Italy, sometimes referred as Balpaese (Beautiful County), is the world's largest producer of wines.  There is a saying among Italians that "There is no Italy, only one vast vineyard stretching north to south."

There is a lot of interesting and misleading information when it comes to French and Italian wines as they continue to label by region rather than varietal. I don't have a friend to discuss French wines with, but I do know a very well inform individual with a passion for Italian wines. His name is Jason Crum, wine director for Bricco della Regina Anna, known simply as Bricco.

Kevin Erickson (Chef/Owner) and Jason have the gem of the neighborhood, and she is "the sexiest chic on the block".  (Natalie Portman marry me!!)

Huh? Where am I? Sorry, got distracted. (Damn you gamblor...Doh!)

Bricco (Brocca), for the curious means jug, carafe, decanter, or flagon, but also hilltop vineyards in Piemonte.  In this sense I think, perhaps K&J may refer to "jug" since in Piemonte Italy everyday street wines are still sold in jugs (aren't K & J the Men in Black?).  Bricco della Regina Anna loosely translates as "Jug of the Queen Anne" or "Jug for Queen Anne", I think, don't qoute me.

This is what I respect about K & J; they try to provide a sense of the culture they are serving, as well homage to the neighborhood (they may have to as they may be aliens...right agents K & J?). It is said that much of a country's culture can be discovered in its food and death rituals.  I tend to agree.  And Bricco is trying to serve you a cultural slice of Italy with their menu and drown you with its wonderful wines  (ah, but what a way to die!).

"Benvenuto in Italia. Il vostro orificio del passaggio per favore."

(huh?...Where is my babel-fish?)

Bricco is a beautiful space worthy of a queen (or Natalie Portman).  Tough small and intimately crowded it never feels "overcrowded", and though you may be elbow-to-elbow  with others they never seem to invade "your space".  A sort of polite crowdedness. The room is dark cherry(?) wood in design and has a noble feel about it, though not pretentious.  The candle lit tables throw enough lighting on the face of the person you are with so you can actually see them (huh, imagine that Wild Ginger, what a concept!).  I often hate going to so called "romantically candle lit" spaces because they are so often too dark.  But in this case it works, and the candle lighting only enhances the mood and makes everyone look so much more beautiful (expect Natalie, who is already too beautiful).

The menu is tapas inspired.  Well, no, actually, scratch that, it is antipasto inspired.  Well, no, not really either (scratching my head).  It is Italian Enoteche (wineceller); country peasant food meets wine cult.

Here are the meat and potatoes of it; it is a daily variety of cheeses and Salumi.  There, much better. Whew!!

If you are like my girlfriend (who I swear is part mouse) and crave cheese then Bricco is the place for you; trust me on this. Personally I am a big fan of Mahon and Stilton. I often ask K & J to assemble us a platter and it has never failed to please.  (But!) I must always have my Mahon. Stilton I can live without. ("change hurts us, my precious.")

But, what is Salumi, you ask?  In Italy, Salumi (the French version is Charcuterie) is the common term for cured-meat products and/or is a type of local butcher shop where cured meats like proscuitto, zampone, coppa, and salami are sold. Again, I let K & J take the wheel and assemble the Salumi with cheese.  The presentation is always careful, attentive, alluring and so delectable; even Ruth Reichl would stumble for words in praising.

Jason is great when it comes to wines.  I love the fact that he is never snooty about wines (he has adopted the Italian attitude in this sense).  He loves to talk about wine and is always generous with his knowledge, especially Italian wines which is of course the dominant choice at Bricco.

Jason has assembled a strong and playful wine list; after all Italian wines are fun, not serious and stuffy like French wines.  There is Champagne and sparkling wines, along with the usual suspects; Pinot Grigio, Rieslings, and Chardonnay.  But for the playful and ever searching "wine-o", he carries unusual varietals like Siegerrebe (A hybrid of Gewurztraminer and d'Angevine, like a better version of a Liebfaumilch with strong Muscat tones), and my personal favorite white varietal Viognier (and who knew it was good for breakfast too J).  And much more, but I will not spoil your adventure.

His reds are all over the map as well.  He "has'a da" Pinot, Shiraz, Cab, Nebiolo, Grenache, and Sangiovese. And within the reds he plays the entire Italian countries expression of varietals. Once again, go out and adventure with J; let him recommend something new for you.

Available by glass or bottle, and always of quality and reasonable price. Just like in Balpaese.

Good little spot up in Queen Anne!  Met a friend for a bottle of wine and was very pleased.  Great Cheese selection (the best I have come across at a bar and better than most restaurants) and nice small plates.  Nice bottle selection and a fair by the glass selection.  All and all... better than most wine bars IMO.

Something about a wine bar screams sophistication and pretententiousness. Bricco does carry that swagger, but no pretention!  Dark wood, candle lit room, open kitchen, great service.  I will return again, and not just because one of the cooks is my friend!! ;)

Bricco is a cozy little wine bar and restaurant located at the top of the hill in Seattle's Queen Anne district. This is a popular spot for couples enjoying an intimate dinner for two or friends meeting after work for a drink and some appetizers. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the vintage bar and visible wine cellar add a nice bit of old world charm and class to the restaurant. However, seating is very limited and space can fill up quickly so sometimes the space can feel a little cramped. The menu features a wide variety of cheeses from all over the world as well as cured meats, salads, panini sandwiches, bruschetta and a few key entrees and desserts. The wine list also offers numerous bottle choices as well as a diverse selection of glass pours. Their wines by the glass offer a great chance to branch out and try something new. And each time you order they bring out the bottle and offer a taste before committing to the whole glass. The individual bruschettas are amazing, especially when paired with one of their European reds and the Greek salad is an excellent choice for something on the lighter side. Definitely make it up to Bricco one of these nights after work. You won't regret it!

A little pricy for a few of the cheese plates, but otherwise, this place is sure to become a local favorite.  Seemingly, it already has, since it gets more crowded every time I go back.  Don't let that stop you though--the service is thoughtful and personalized, no matter how many people they are juggling, and great food and wine make it all the better.

UPDATE
New sommelier, same food menu. I like Jesse but often find myself wishing for more variety in eats. Wine list is still nice, though.

ORIGINAL
This is a winebar in the true (new) tradition of enoteche in Italy. (The enoteche, as tourists know them now, are a relatively recent development in Italy, a country that has traditions that date back 100s of years.)

Small plates of food, with an emphasis on cheeses and fresh locally grown ingredients play the perfect foil to the true stars of the establishment...the wines.

The glass pours will delight the wine novice or afficianado just dropping in for a quick drink. My recommendation is to meet a few friends, tell Jason or any of his staff what you like in a wine and let them pick a bottle in your price point. Bricco is a great place to explore your palate while engaged in lively conversation with your friends and perhaps a few other guests the next table down.

For the curious, I wrote a blog entry about the first bottle I ordered there. A lovely Slovenian Pinot Nero:
