Long Beach, CA
I wish there were more markets like this one. One of my favorite place to buy Asian Candies and treats! Mmm...
Frozen steamed buns and seaweed salad are just some things I buy here.
Inside bakery and mini cafe serving hot to-go foods.
Very clean store. -
Review from Miguel R.
I really love Asian food! Good to know I don't have to drive all the way to Long Beach for a good Asian market. Best of all this 99 Ranch Market is close to the 605 Fwy.
Elizabeth V. was very excited to show me this jewel in the secret Asian location which is Artesia. If you're into Asian food Artesia is a little known place for some really great Chinese food and the best pho in town at Pho Tasty. The first time we came the parking lot was soooo packed we just gave up and left. The second time she showed me their fast food bar. It looks pretty good and the prices are good too! The market is pretty good sized so I would expect they have great selection.
We walked around and she showed me the aquariums they have which are stocked with live seafood. I don't really like these aquariums. It reminds you of the price animals pay to feed humans. Their are dozens of crabs and lobsters just piled on each other. I understand people at this market want to see that the lobster or crab they choose is fresh but piling them on top of each other seems kind of mean or cruel or whatever you want to call it. I'm not trying to get all peta here. Just making an observation.
We also walked into the bakery which has lots of tempting treats. I got a Taro Bun for only $0.89. It was pretty big and nice and soft to boot! It was good but not overly flavorful.
Another cool thing about this 99 Ranch Market was their orchid section. Orchids are my favorite flowers and my eyes open wide whenever I see them.
Overall 99 Ranch Market is a pretty good place to get some great Asian groceries.Listed in: Best and Worst Market…

Review from Dennis P.
I'm reminded of the old Diho Market that used to be located not too far from this 99 Ranch Market's location. The main difference is that 99 Ranch Market is a lot bigger and has a bigger selection of products.
This place is insane on weekends. Just maneuvering through the parking lot and then walking across to get inside the store is all done "at your own risk." :-p
Inside the store, there is an area on one side where prepared foods are sold (called the hot deli). My personal favorite is the honey barbecued pork. The hot deli area also has a small dining area if you wanted to dine on the premises.
The store also has a bakery selling such items as whole wheat rolls and sweet butter toast. The bakery also sells several varieties of cakes made on the premises. Interestingly enough, 99 Ranch Market sells cakes made by the well-known Philippine bakery, Goldilocks.
The produce department has many different kinds of fruits and vegetables, most notably the kind that many Chinese people use, including bok choy, mangoes, young coconuts and star fruit. Many good deals can be had by checking the weekly specials flyer online.
One thing about this store that I didn't care for was that the general cleanliness (especially the floors in the produce department) was somewhat lacking. Also, in the parking lot, I couldn't help but spot a couple of either day laborers or homeless people loitering a short distance from the exit, which made me slightly uncomfortable.
If you're looking for good deals on Asian produce and other food items, this is the place to go for sure. -
Review from Judy F.
Every time we go to an Asian market, I feel so rushed. Maybe it is the amount of people it in? I am not sure, but it is always...GO GO GO. Look, select, pick out, and in basket, GO.
I was looking for red envelopes for Chinese New Year. I found them at the front counter and the selection was ok. $.089 for 6. Better than in AZ. -
Review from Jenn S.
I used to feel like my neighborhood 99 Ranch was lame, as I'd been to the gigantic ones in Irvine not to mention the crazy San Gabriel one...but then I found out that this one will fry fish for you!
Yes! You can pick out one of those exotic-looking fresh fish on ice that you've been afraid of getting bc honestly you have no idea, and even less patience, to deal with descaling, deboning and cleaning a full fish - they'll do it for you, and fry the sucker up on the spot! The fish frying doesn't cost extra and is avail. till 8pm I believe.
Also, this little 99 Ranch market is able to pack a surprisingly large amount of produce. They often have cases of mangoes and coconuts, and the veggies here are always priced pretty low. Cashiers are some of the friendlier ones that work at the Ranch Markets as well. -

I used to live in this area, and got over here to shop pretty frequently. I've always enjoyed the great and sometimes exotic produce section, plus now they have a pretty cool Indian foods section too.
Meats and seafood tend to be very fresh here, and if you pick out fish, they will fry it for you assuming you want it fried. A lot of times there's plenty of whole fish available, ready for you to skin and fillet it yourself. Awesome.
It's also cool that there's an area for sushi-making ingredients including both the tiny orange masago and the luscious large orange masago, along with fresh fatty cuts of sushi grade salmon and yellowfin tuna.
Try to avoid this place on the weekends because otherwise, you'll be parking in a stacking manner and the store is crazy crowded. On the other hand, the weekend is where the food samples are at.
This 99 Ranch boasts a pretty yummy deli with seating as well as a sweet little bakery. Take home a few pineapple cakes or some black sesame bread, it's all good.
So, have lunch at Lee's or Dim Sum at Ten Ten, and then hurry on over to the (99) Ranch! -

99 Ranch is the Chinese supermarket to go to in Artesia, CA. It's decently clean and they get the job done. Parents go here all the time. They sell groceries, pastries, to-go cuisine, newspapers, and lottery galore! Plus, there is an East West bank for all you Michelle Kwan enthusiasts/Asian American bankers.
Warning: Hard to park in this crazy plaza full of Asian mamas tryin' to get their shopping done. -

Has everything I need. I cook a lot of asian dishes and this grocery store has everything you can think of-filipino, indonesian, indian, korean, and chinese ingredients. I love the aisle with all the different sauces and the other with noddles/rice. The meat section is ok, most things ordered through the butchers but I recommend you not go over on weekends since they have no number system (actually present but not used). Everyone just stands around and gets the butchers' attention. Whoever stands out/whistles good/speaks Chinese or tagalog could definitely cut in in front of you. Hate that. There are some packaged pre-cut meat though if you don't want to be stressed dealing with this system. There are a lot of choices at the seafood section. Same system, and Asians being more in love with fish/seafood, can get quite packed and crazy. Has the following as well....
Has fresh soft tofu and several other types: packaged soft/medium/firm
Asian veggies but not too much. Smaller produce area than Zion Market
Prepared food section for roast pork and roast duck by the pound
Kitchen gadgets aisle has typical items: rice cooker, plates, bowls, knives, etc
Good selection of snacks for the kids or yourself
Great bakery, a must stop since you're there. Pork sung buns are yummy.
Again, come on a weekday. Save yourself the headache of finding parking, as well as your voice from cursing out everyone else who can't drive. Waste of Lexus. BMW. Or Mercedes. -

As others have stated, this 99 Ranch is pretty standard to most of their locations, but it does seem a bit smaller than some of the ones in the SGV. And like most of their locations, the area where they sell the hot food is a little different. This location has a deal where you pay (I think it's like $6 or $7) and you can pile on as much as you want from the number of items to choose from.
And as stated, parking is pretty horrible here, especially on the weekends. I didn't even know there were that many FOB's in this area, but I seem to notice more and more, especially the Mandarin speaking ones! -

Long Beach, CA
The reliable Asian grocery store chain, strategically placed in all the right cities. Monkey gets his stash of G7 instant coffee, chicken & pork soup bones and that special bag of SUKOYAKA GENMAI brown rice on sale.
Good luck with the butchers: Ask for live fish and they just walk away and help the next person... unless they need live fish too.
Three stars for the store in general. Two bullets for the butchers. -

Usually im not a fan of asian markets because they always seem to be missing something well 99 ranch isnt to bad they got a bakery a lunch area and all those nummy asian snacks and instant noodles you crave.
The prices are reasonable and usually a deal comes by here and there, but hey they got samples in store somtimes lol. -

This has got to be the best/cleanest 99 Ranch Market I've ever been too. [way better than the one in Irvine & Westminster].
They have a large deli service, from ducks, to bbq pork, to sushi, and everything you need from an asian-take-out place. In addition, across from the deli service in the market is a fantastic bakery, with better prices and flavors than your Paris Baguette in Cerritos Mall :)
The place is clean, fresh produce, [lots of Indian spices and frozen items], and friendly cashiers, GO HERE! -

Parking can get crowded on the weekends but this place has fresh seafood and great prices. They keep the store pretty clean and organized :)
and there's always great weekly deals! Bonus they have a bakery inside -- yum! -
Review from Amy K.
There wasn't anything exceptional or not about this Ranch 99, it's not as big as some I've gone to in San Gabriel, but it's good just the same. I was in there for the snack selection and was disappointed in their Pocky/Pretz variety; I've also seen bigger selections of fresh packaged noodles.
Same giant carnage department, same good prices on produce, although the bags they had in their produce department were stunningly difficult to open. This woman and I stood there frowning at and wrestling our plastic bags for at least a full minute. -

I am reviewing this for the food they serve, which is soo yummeh!!!
I go here often on saturday mornings to grab a little breakfast. For $3 for a big bowl of Congee (rice porridge) is amazing and it taste soo good. They even put some of the crispy thingy on top with green onions. Cannot beat that deal.
Now, they have a lot of other choices to get such as the Pork Belly Buns (sooooo good!!!!), pork buns, sticky rice, soy milk with chinese donuts. There is so much to choose from and they are all cheap.
If you are looking for a good breakfast... you need to check this place out! The only reason why I would go to an Asian Market.. (I dont do the grocery thats why) . -

The go to mother of all markets for Chinese products. Always a fresh fish selection, quality imports, and fresh produce in one of the cleanest 99's of all.
Avoid on Sunday or Saturday, 11-4 or be warned of the other 1000000 Chinese that will be there. Breakfast section was packed this morning in the hot foods area: it must be good. -

I like going here for 2 reasons
1) Buying there fried tilapia
&
2) Buying beer!. They have a wide selection of imported beer =]
When combining both you just can't go wrong and it makes a great meal for the day. -
Review from Sharon H.
Everything you need for asian cuisine + much, much more! They also have a great cafeteria/kitchen area for fresh-cooked meals! If you're planning on getting there for chinese breakfast, make sure you get there early because they sell out fast!! Other than Canaan restaurant, the only other great chinese breakfast in Cerritos!
Oh, beware the parking lot! It's better just to park a little further away than fight with people for the closer spots-- lots of traffic congestion closer to the main entrance. -
Review from H Q.
Placentia, CA
I've been to the 99 Ranch in Anaheim, Rowland Heights, Chino Hills, Irvine 1 and 2 and one in San Jose, so why not add one more to the resume?
Compared to other 99s, this one seemed smaller and more cramped for some reason. I don't know if it really was. They carry all the stuff that other 99s do and have all the same fish, vegetables and poultry that others do. The major difference with this location is the PA system blasts deals in Chinese and English and plays music too loud. Also, I was not impressed with their selection of prepared foods. It didn't seem as fresh as other locations, too.
So, with another 99 Ranch opening in Fountain Valley this month, I guess that'll be one more stop on the tour. -
Review from Bonnie S.
Not the best 99 Ranch Market but it gets you what you need in the area. If you need to have fresh seafood and meat, this place is the best. They have almost everything you need Asian.
The top things I like getting at 99 Ranch.
-BBQ Pork
-Live crabs when on sale or fish.
-Cuts of pork
-Fresh rice noodles
-Frozen dumplings
-Curry Paste or Chili Sauces
If you notice, I didn't list any vegetables or fruit. Just a huge hint, the best place to get Veggies is at Zion Market about 10 mins away on Bloomfield and Carson. -
Review from Elizabeth V.
Long Beach, CA
I don't have much to add to many of the other reviews. This is one of my "must see" combination Asian super market / fresh seafood market / fresh meats poultry counter / ready made to cook Asian food supply.
You know those fabulous steamed buns with the bit of BBQ pork in the middle... on special - a package of 4 for under $4. A tray of pork shumai, under $4. And many other ingredients so that you can "make" a fabulous meal in "heat it up and serve" mode which many of us busy people (aka people that can't cook water) really appreciate.
The real find is the fresh fish. I also go to my other local American markets and don't see the variety that is at 99 Ranch. Many of their basic prices are equal or better to the sale price at other supermarkets. I do tend to have a debate with myself over driving to the San Pedro fish market (if you are close, go see it too), or just going to 99 Ranch. I picked up some beautiful Salmon that was delicious and I'll have the left overs tomorrow.
I can't say that the vegetables are inexpensive; they are more often a few cents less than Vons / Ralphs, but not as cheap as Buy Low Warehouse. This is one of the few places that I trust to buy peaches at. I've had a few run-ins with American supermarkets and peaches that spoil but never actually ripen.
Definitely walk the frozen food isles and the refrigerated isles. I picked up a package of fresh uncooked thin noodles for $1.30 (14 oz.) and if you've ever purchased fresh uncooked pasta then you will know what a price difference it is between the two. A bit of chicken and spices, broccoli and cherry tomatoes -- but the fresh noodles really makes this soup special.
I also recommend this as a "kids field trip." I know, shoot me but it's a wonderful way to talk about food with kids, plan a meal that they can help you with and put up with their squeals of joy when they poke at the fresh blue crabs.
How about an "ice cream" stop? They have a shave ice counter with many types of unusual desserts, most cold and that works on these heat wave days. I like my shave ice with condensed milk and the other secret ingredients that they put into it.
There is also a bakery and I have to mention my favorite: Pineapple bread. It's like a cinnamon bread but they roll up a sweetened pineapple paste. The coconut toast has tempted me but I'm still hooked on the pineapple. I also recommend their pound cakes (blueberry, raisin cinnamon, chocolate) because the price seems good (under $3.)
This location is smaller than the other one I reviewed so they have a limited supply of brands of many other shelf goods. The parking lot is like a bull fighting ring so be prepared not to find the closest parking place. It is not worth being trapped by foot traffic or people in Lexus/BMW's parked in the way of the front door oblivious while picking-up; dropping-off, bored and holding conversations on their cell phones. I might need a translation for "hey, I'm walking here" for my next trip. Anyone? -
Review from Julie L.
Normally I wouldn't rate you...but today's visit warranted a 5 star high-five.
Mix:
2 parts undisciplined children running around in the aisles.
1 part me; complete with headache
5 mins of their mother yelling for them to behave + either a spank or a slap resulting in crying...and then silence
3 parts un-fazed employees on both ends of the aisles
Top with a grin and proceed to check-out.
Oh, you guys are so asian that nothing is PC. I love it. Rule with a iron fist and show your tough love!!!
p.s. Tons of hard to find vegetables and soy options in all shapes and forms. Includes a decent bakery and hot food item section as well. There. Now its food related. -

Hey white girl! Yeah you! The one who thinks she's all cool and stuff for shopping at 99 Ranch! I got news for you sister! We're on to your ass! You stick out like a sore thumb gaigin!
99 Ranch has been on the list for a while now, and when I got a wild hair to make homemade egg rolls for the first time, I stopped in for some supplies.
So cheap. So organized. So fun. Some of the joy I purchased included:
-ground pork, $1.69 lb. mmmmm here piggy piggy
-New York strip steak, $2.99 lb. I made broccoli beef with it. That's right bitches.
-spring roll wrappers, $1.09. You're a mystery to me no more.
-hot garlic & wasabi flavored shrimp chips, $1.49 each. WHAAAATTT??? They make more than one flavor of shrimp chips??? You skanks have been holding out on me!
-sweet chili sauce, $.68. More like SWEET JESUS sauce!!! I will drink you with a straw and do the Balki Perfect Strangers dance of joy around my living room!

Fullerton, CA
The boyfriend was craving Crab... We decided to pick some up... This location offers free Steaming service with Seafood purchase, so we were about to pick some out.... when a cart got pushed out on the floor from behind the counter. It had packages that claimed that they were the same live crab we were looking at, but steamed and packaged already! We got 2 pkgs of crab (2 crabs in ea pkg) and 1 pkg of steamed shrimp.
I thought the shrimp looked a bit odd... but we went ahead and got them. As I was putting the bags into the car, I got a whiff of stinky fish smell... Fresh seafood doesnt smell fishy, so I was a bit worried but soon got it out of my mind. Drove home and my mom had the steampot ready so we could re-steam them. Took the crabs out of the packages and they were 'iffy'... Parts of them put out a bad smell and then we opened the shrimp... UGH. They were 100% without a doubt, BAD. Sooo smelly, sooo stinky...
Put all the seafood into a trash bag, along with the packages and headed back. We got there and asked for the manager. We gave him the trash bag of goodies and explained that we just purchased these 30 minutes earlier. He wasnt very nice but then again, maybe thats just how he talks - cause he wasnt rude, either. Just kept asking when we bought it etc, so we produced the receipt... He kind of just stood there, so I told him that we simply wanted to exachange these pre-cooked disasters for some live crabs that we'd get steamed. He said okay.
We went and picked out our crabbies, got 3 steamed up... We paid the difference and came home to enjoy. Overall, please please be wary of your seafood before you buy it! I wish they hadnt put that kind of food out, Im sure even they knew it was bad... But at least they let us return it without much hassle, which is usually impossible at asian markets.
Oh and as a bonus, while they were steaming our crabs up - I got to watch them take a mallet to a Catfish to kill it before gutting it. It was wonderful. *gag* =( -
Review from Pho U.
Downtown, Los Angeles, CA
Problem: I was sick of paying way too much for a bowl of pho on the Westside and there's no way I'm going to drive down to Westminister every time I get a pho craving.
Solution: Went to 99 Ranch and bought the following ingredients to whip up my own batch of Pho:
-Cinnamon Sticks $1.29
-Flying Horse Fish Sauce $1.39
-Sriracha Hot Sauce $2.59
-Green Onion $.44
-Cilantro $.49
-Star Anise $1.09
-Elephant Rice Stick (2 packages of noodles) $2.58
-Basil $2.08
-Ginger $1.40
-Bean Sprouts $.69
-Beef Shank with bone $4.44
-Beef Neckbone $4.04
-Brown Onion $.37
-Beef Top Sirloin Steak $6.22
My broth is simmering at this very moment but for around ~$30 you too can make your own pho!
Now about the store -
Positives:
-Good prices
-Has everything you need to make pho
-Has pretty much everything you need to make any other Vietnamese dish (I think....I'm not an expert cook yet but I recognized many ingredients my mom used to have in the kitchen)
-Saw a couple Asian girls with sexy little bootays
-Seafood
-Place makes me feel really tall (I'm 5'6.5")
Negatives:
-Smells like Asians
-Smells like Seafood (derrr they have live crabs and fish)
-You'll get run over a lot like seriously out of nowhere a little old azn lady will bump into you...they drive a shopping cart like they drive a car on the road...not pretty. (Trust me this will happen and when it does you will think of this review and feel all warm inside because we shared the same experience) -

Why hadn't I noticed the HUGE selection of vegetarian meats before? Veggie chicken? Come on! Veggie meatballs? Oh my! It's been For-ever since I've had meatballs in my spaghetti. The list goes on and on. I can't complain.
Aside from the newly discovered packages of magic, I picked up some more rice paper and Thai peanut sauce. We've been on a 'vegetarian' spring roll kick, or in some areas it's also called summer rolls. These fresh spring rolls are healthy, satisfying and a great way for kids AND adults to eat their veggies. (wink!) http://en.wikipedia.or...
I must admit though, they lack freshness in the produce area. Beware! But, that's why I go for their huge selection of seafood and frozen goods. And with this new discovery, their veggie meats! -

Looking for some vegetarian kidney for that kidney pie recipe you've just been dying to try? This here's your place.
But seriously, this place has all sorts of wacky vegetarian products that I would never in a million years know what to do with, but it also stocks things like vegetarian oyster sauce that I DO know what to do with.
It also has really cheap produce (those amazing fuyu persimmons that cost ten dollars an ounce at your local market are practically free here when they're in season) and all around good prices on very random things.
Did I mention the bakery, yum!
I know of course, that it's the vegetarian kidney that sold you on this spot. -

This place is pretty good. I love coming here and picking up some little foods to eat!
They have pocky, and yan yan! And they also have dumplings!
For some reason their vegetables are cheaper than if you were to go to a regular american supermarket. -

I love to devour lobster, crab, shrimp and fish with the same divine ecstasy as a starved zombie eating brains or as a young tenacious fat kid eating cake......
Therefor, I love this market ! ! ! I think of it more as a museum of seafood and mystic asian foods. I wander up and down the isles dazed and confused as i fantasize about all the great dishes i could cook with this stuff. Then i become depressed momentarily as reality hits me like bomb, i can't cook asian ! ! ! Damn me .........
So i drift towards the seafood with anticipation while my stomach starts to kick. And like a ray of sunshine, the sight hits me - Live lobsters, crabs, shrimp and tilapia in huge tanks ! And all for ridiculously great prices. As far as lobster goes, no one has better prices. The price varies depending on what specials are going(as low as $6.99 lb live ! ! !) These are lobsters with large claws filled with life giving meat. Oh goodness......I'm getting dizzy.
I have learned to get the medium sized lobsters as apposed to the extremely big ones(meat is not as sweet). And never boil these delectable rascals, steaming is the ticket. barbecuing and frying also works great but is much trickier.
The fresh and frozen seafood selection is fantastic. If you request, they will clean and whack up your fish and cook them for you at no extra charge. Also, they have a great selection of asian beers and sake. One of my favorite isles is where all the sauces are at. Good lord you have to see the selection. I wish i could sample all of them.
Great market with great seafood selection and prices. Everything always fresh, clean and well organized. -

Let see where do I start? First off, this is a nice size Asian market for the regular ingredients you would need but there are many things I don't like about the place.
It seems cleaner than most of the Asian stores down in Long Beach but they do not however have many selections that I'm looking for. It was my first time visiting 99 Ranch Market and all this time I never knew there was an Asian market near my home. For many years I've lived in Long Beach and even when I moved out of the city, I always go back for my grocery shopping, my favorite market, Kim Long.
I wanted to pick up fish and have them fry it but it seems like a forever wait trying to get any assistance. It's like they dont' acknowlege your presence nor do they want to help. I know most Asians market can be rude sometimes but this was uncalled for. And me being Asian myself, I can definitely say that. The one thing I can't stand is bad customer service. Once I was able to get help (after 7 minutes of waiting), I asked the guy to clean and fry the fish for me. He just looked at me and gave me a ticket. I took that as he knows what he's supposed to do.
As I waited for the fish to be cleaned and fried, I walked around the store to check out what they have. Sadly to say, their fruits and vegetables are no where near fresh. As for the meat, poultry, seafood section, I wouldn't buy it. It looks like it's been sitting on the racks for days! Everything looks so old unless it's in a can or jar.
So after picking up a couple of things, I came back to get my fish. Once I was home and was ready to eat, I noticed they didn't clean the fish all the way. So, some scales were still on there. Call me anal but I've always gotten a nice, clean fried fish when I asked for it.
I would only go here for ingredients but not meat, poultry, or seafood. -
Review from Grace L.
:oD
I love this market because I find my favorite foods that you can't find at American grocery stores. There's a lot of exotic veggies, fruits, snacks, and the list goes on and on!
I'm always on the look out of cheap produce. Granted 99 Ranch might not be the cheapest, but sometimes I fold and have to pick up fruits and vegetables I'm craving that you can't get in other grocery stores. Where else can you get cheap white nectarines, a rice dispenser, and Indian spices all in the same spot?
Note to everyone, this is an Asian supermarket with the emphasis on Chinese. Don't be surprised if people take up two parking spaces. I mean I get a little irritated because I'm Chinese, but I'm not a surprised anymore. So don't have a heart attack if you have to enter your car from the passenger side because the bozo next to you parked too close.
Here's a little tip: There's a special going on where if you spend $30 before taxes and bring your receipt to the front. They give you a free light bulb. -
Review from Judy H.
This 99 Ranch Market is much smaller than the SG location on Valley and Del Mar...but no complaints here since it is a haven for me now that I don't live in "Chinatown #2" anymore. (Rowland/Hacienda Heights is "Chinatown #3 for me.) When I need to get some Curry mix, Salted Bean Curd cubes or......Red Bean Paste, 99 Ranch is just 10 minutes away.
It is a lot cleaner than the SG location, so I'll give it props for that. One time, a man stocking the shelves even asked me if I needed help looking for something. I was blown away. Their cashiers though....they need to learn how to say "hi". I'm not asking for full on conversations, but at least "hi" and "thank you".
One of the things I love about Chinese supermarkets is the price. Fruits and vegetables are at least half the price of Vons/Ralphs/Albertsons, etc. Being that it's a smaller location, they have less variety of things. For example, they didn't have my brother-n-law's choice of seaweed flakes...but they do have the basics. Mike L.'s review gives a perfect description. I gotta remember to go try their takeout combos for lunch.Listed in: My Neighborhood, Because it's convenient...

I simply love 99 Ranch. This is an International Foodies Paradise! I could spend endless hours here walking up and down the isles looking at endless products and kitchen gadgets galore.
Their fresh produce, is very exotic and always has great prices. Their staff is very friendly and will help you find any item your looking for. I made Japanese Udon and it was amazing and very easy.
I love their kitchenware department because I can buy large soup bowls, decorative chopsticks and my favorite cookies, Hello Panda. I always end up getting a cart here because I find so many delicious new things to buy here. -

Why do all Asian stores have to have an Asian smell? Is it cause of the ingredients that they use in the food?? =\ shoot, maybe my place smells like it too? hahaha freaken-a.
Anywho, onto the review of the actual store.
The store's pretty clean as compared to other smaller asian stores that aren't chained or as big. They are always well stocked with their ingredients, veggies, fish, etc. Some of their fruits aren't always as fresh as the ones you would find at an American grocery store but sometimes its a little cheaper here.
They have all and any kinds of Asian spice you would need to cook a nice Asian-ly meal. So don't worry, you won't have to go to another store to pick up some spice, soy sauce or whatever. You have everything from flours to noodles and what not.
The bad thing is, they have only say 2 registers open and both lines are long as heck so you have to wait in line for the longest time if you're only dropping by to grab some soy sauce, as I was =( -

As far as this chain goes, this particular location gets five stars. Unlike other locations, as Mike L. says, they have a well stocked supply of fish chips. I am seriously addicted. My mom and I ate two bags (total) late one evening and will never forget it. Not like this is a review for fish chips, but damn. They are mighty tasty. Yes, you feel sick after you're halfway through, but it's so good, you still can't stop. Plus, it grosses out all my white friends. Shrimp chips??? SHRIMP??? In chips?? However, maybe your non-Asian friends are cooler and more diverse than mine, and then it wouldn't be as fun.
The produce section is a little lacking. They don't have the freshest vegetables or the best selection, but their meat counter looks better and they have less dead fish in the tanks. Actually, the last time I went, they were all swimming, so that's a good sign.
The bakery is a plus, because that isn't in all the locations.
What gets me is the food court. Whenever I go to Cerritos, I get the duck from this market. For whatever reason, it tastes better than the one at Sam Woo, and it's like a dollar cheaper Go market!! -

Sure, it took a while for 99 Ranch to finally settle in a location in Cerritos.... no more traveling to San Gabriel for those cheap deals in produce and miscellaneous Asian necessities (frozen dumplings, shu mai...), but this one is much better than the San Gabriel one.
For 2 simple reasons:
1. It's cleaner
2. IT HAS A BREAKFAST BAR/RESTAURANT (San Gabriel's, shockingly, does NOT... I mean, what is that??)
The breakfast bar is actually very delicious, serving up basic Taiwanese-style breakfast items: leek pie, onion/egg pancakes, soy milk, oily crullers, rice rolls (they even make vegetarian ones! Vegan friendly as well, made with a yummy brown/wild rice mix... just ask!). For under $12 my dad fed my sister, mom and me every Sunday.... of course, we had leftovers.
There aren't as many samples being given out as the 99 Ranch in San Gabriel has, but... that's just more space for walking, isn't it??
You will always get the best deal here, and listening to the man speaking on the intercom is also highly amusing.
Extensive variety of fruits, vegetables, desserts and meats, all at 2/3 or 1/2 the price as some American markets (you can debate how organic or how GMO-d some of the produce is though, I guess...)...
My only problem with this is the parking lot. But what do you expect, it's the parking lot at a Chinese market. -

Cerritos, CA
Prices are decent, cleanliness is on par with a Chinese market. If you look Chinese, be prepared for an onslaught of Chinese jibberjabber. Keep an eye open for sales, they have some that are good deals, so stock up.
