It was my first time I went to 99 chicken, last night.. and I will definetly be coming back for more..
The chicken is crisp to perfection and not oily!
If you are new, I recommend getting the combo plate to try the different types of chicken (plain, saucey, spicy and sweet).. It is a good way to figure out what kind you like!

I thought I was invited to dinner for my birthday.  Turned out, the real motive was to grill me.  That's ok though because the chicken was good.

We had the plain fried chicken, tofu jige and a pitcher of OB for $30 or so.  The chicken was crispy, hot , juicy and delicious.  The soup was on the spicier side but not too bad.  My dinner companions may disagree with me on that point.

We took a picture so I might be on the wall.  Will have to go back to see.

I used to come here all the when I was going to SCU.  They open late so it was great getting some fried chicken and downing a bottle (or 2) of OB.  You should try the sauce at least once since most people either love it or hate it.  Personally I think it's great and always get the spicy sauce.

The plates are clean, fresh, and yes, they even taste healthy. I like the fried chicken though my friends prefer the barbeque variety. If you like the whole sweet meat thing, you can order the combo plate.

Come on, fried chicken and a free all-you-can-eat salad bar, what's not to like?

P.S. Remember to do your hair. It's custom that the manager take a picture of your party.

I love chicken. I love fried chicken. I love fried chicken even more when there isn't sauce that  completely overpowers its yummy crispy fried steaming hot goodness. So, therefore, I got the plain fried chicken. So good, if you're just craving the simple joys of life. It isn't greasy, and the steam just envelops you when you take a bite. OMG...I'm flippin' hungry for some 99 Chicken.
Not going to lie though, I did dip some of my pieces into the sauciness of my friends' plates; regular sauce and spicy taste pretty similar with a little bit of a kick going to the spicy plate. Overall, pretty good. It's just all that sauce threw me off a bit, and I was having a day in which I did not want to get down and dirty.
Like everyone says: free salad and free rice! Thank goodness because I know those little rice bowls that cost a buck aren't enough for the plates of chicken.

99 pieces of chicken on the wall
99 pieces of meat
Take one down, pass the moo around
98 pieces of chicken on the wall.

(Rinse...Repeat).

Try it with a few big bottles of OB or Hite, and the song gets a bit more complicated.

Worth it.  Try it.

I must thank Linda C. for making me drive to Santa Clara to go out and meet some friends for dinner.  Looking at the reviews I was filled with excitement, a low key place that focuses on doing a few things really well,  incorporating good fried food, beer and a casual/relaxed dinning experience usually is an equation for a fantastic meal.  99 chicken managed to hit it on all points, and I must say I left very full and very happy.

They make their chicken to order, so order it early so you can time everything right with the rest of the meal.  The combination chicken plate has four different preparations and styles, I am a purist though, I like mine plain but with a couple of shakes from their salt/pepper/MSG seasoning can.  Say what you want about the health implications, MSG is so good!  I also had love wings, think KFC hot wings with a kimchi flavor and spiciness, only really really good.  The tongue scorching heat provides an awesome kick to the pants.  As the evening progressed I though the heat didn't bother me as much, that said its very possible most of my tastes buds may have been burned off.  No matter, we learned the best cure for the heat is a bottle of beer.

I'll definitely be back, maybe even for a late night treat for next time I'm in the area.  Linda I admit it.  You were right.  This restaurant kicked ass!  I can't wait to see our photo on the giant wall!  One last note, I felt like a little messy kid with the all those wings I ate, I went through a hell of a lot of napkins during this meal....

As if 99 chicken needs more reviews but I have to rave about how good/cheap this meal was!  I only tried the original as I went with 7 other ppl who don't like saucy fingers.  The batter was a cornmeal-y crisp with no hint of oil whatsoever.  The platters came out reallly quick like within 5 minutes of ordering--10 pieces for $13.  For 8 of us we got three 10 pc platters and one 5 piece and it was moreee than enough.
The best part for me was the fresh and all-you-can eat salad bar.  Coleslaw, mixed greens, broccoli and carrots, and pickled daikon were alll delicious and didn't need that much ranch dressing.  Ask for the sweet bbq sauce to dip the chicken in with the salt/pepper mix.  Bill came out to $50--amazing.

These kinds of little casual places with good food is why I like going down to the south bay. It's non pretentious, super lax and has delicious food.

I like the fact that they give you free salad, that's super :). Supposedly the chicken is fried so that it has less fat; it does feel lighter but I wouldn't say this is health food. I'd come here again to hang out with some friends.

Food comes out fast and portion is good for sharing.

They don't need me to get fancy with my review-- (rather, they should be appreciative because I'm supposed to be studying right now)
All i'm going to say is the freakin chicken is crazy crazy good.  Not oily. I hate hate oily food.  My head would become a fried chicken by now if it weren't for the oily-ness that fried stuff typically carries.  BUT thanks to yelp and others that follow, I've found THE chicken.
Very homely service.  The family that owns the place are very sweet.  Playing where's waldo on the wall of pictures is awesome too!

Their fried chicken is crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and tastes really good. On top of that, it's not that expensive. We got a combo with a plate of 10 pieces of chicken, beef fried rice and a bottle of soju for less than 30 bucks. Also, there'a free salad bar. I will def. be visiting this place again!

OMGizzle off the hizzle. The fried chicken blows all other places out of the water. Deep fried when you order coming out crisp and clean. They claim to use heart-healthy oils, probably with less saturated/trans fats. I recommend the plain fried chicken touched in salt and pepper. To level the grease all meals come with a free all-you-can-eat salad and rice bar! This is what makes me feel like management tries really hard to make its customers happy. Miso dressing is the bomb. They also serve alcohol.

They took our picture to commemerate our experience. One general quality about Korean places is that they pride themselves on customer service which is somewhat lost here. However this came as an advantage since the cheapos in our group that didn't get anything to eat got to sneak in some free grub from the salad bar without being noticed.

Prepare to spend 13 dollars.

I ended up here with 2 friends because the sushi restaurant next door was too crowded.  The menu did not look good, I was wishing I hadn't come in.  One of my friends said the chicken was good so we ordered the sauce chicken and spicy chicken (20 total pieces).  The chicken was great!  I can't think of any other fried chicken that is similar to their style. Be prepared to eat lots of rice to offset the amount of sauce they put on the chicken.  It took a while for the chicken to come out but you have the salad bar to keep you busy.   It was about $30 for three of us and we had about 9 pieces left to take home.

It's 11PM. I'm hungry. Nothing much is open. Then we stumble across this place. It caught my eye.

In glowing neon:           BEER        CHICKEN        OPEN

Sold!

So we sit down, I look in the cooler, they have OB beer. Cool. Two size bottles in there. Typical. I ask for the large. Instead of getting one out of the cooler for me, the guy goes to the kitchen and brings back the most ginormous bottle of beer I've ever seen! I think it was 1.6 LITERS!!!   I decline, and take the regular large size OB. Keep that humongous OB in mind for groups though... It is kind of like ordering a pitcher, only it comes in a bottle. Should save money for groups.

While eating here I kept thinking of Hooters. I bet they wish their  chicken was this good. The slogan "Delightfully Tacky, Yet Unrefined" kept coming to mind. The decorations in the place consist of hundreds of pictures stuck to the walls, plus Korean posters, some plastic flags, and some Christmas lights. Yea, Delightfully Tacky, Yet Unrefined. This is not the place to come for a romantic dinner date with candle light and white table cloths. No, this is more like a Korean roadhouse. It has a wonderful blue collar feel to it. I kept saying, "I love this place."

It's all about the chicken here. It is SERIOUSLY good. Really. You gotta try it. The spicy chicken was perfect. Not too hot, full of flavor. The chicken here is so good that they have a sign (in Korean) by the door to the kitchen warning people to keep out. Seems that the chicken is so good that people are constantly trying to sneak into the kitchen to learn about their secret recipe. Seriously, how many restaurants do you go to with signs asking people to keep out of the kitchen. Delightfully Tacky...

The name for this place is kind of cute. 99 Chicken. If you pronounce the two Korean syllables, they are Chi Kin ~ Chicken. The 99 in the name comes from the name of the guy who owns the place. His Korean name is the same sound as the number nine. Delightfully Tacky...

Here's how to do this place: Sit down, order beer and chicken. Go get your own salad and rice. Eat the chicken. Be comfortable. Simple.

Oh, one more thing. The Kimchee stew here is really good. If you like that sort of dish, you'll be happy here.

THIS PLACE IS GOOOOOOOOOOD!! Yummy yummy for my tummy!  An awesome find....I wish I lived closer!!

The chicken is deep fried which makes it so much better then baked like most places. We ordered the sampler and we devoured it! I would definitely go back...I loved all 4 of the variety of chicken that we tried!

After having 99 Chicken (where's the plural?) constantly shoved in my face everyday for the last three weeks (this place was constantly No 1 on 'Hot On Yelp' - and yes, I do access Yelp everyday... sometimes a few times a day), I decided to give it a try.

Certainly was intrigued when the tag on this place is 'Korean'.

Do Koreans even make fried chicken?

I guess they do.

Place has an interesting vibe to it - mainly coming from the patrons and pictures of, which seem to fill the entire interior wall (Wonder why they didn't offer to take our picture? Feeling slightly offended...).

Food (spicy chicken and kimchee fried rice) was decent.

Price was embarrassingly cheap.

Service was, well... nonexistent.  Go get your own utensils, plates, glasses, refill of water and tea.  No complaints there - I don't come to this place expecting a Michael Mina-type service.

Unfortunately, I don't think this place deserves the four-star rating it averages at.  Here's why:
1) The free salad bar that everyone raves about was minuscule ~ however, I'm an antivegetarian, a result of parents not being strict enough in enforcing vegetable eating habit on their kids.  So, salad bar or lack thereof would not have made a difference.
2) The spicy chicken is not spicy enough such that I have to supplement it with the chopped pickled jalapeno. It was nowhere near the Nuclear wings from the (almost neighboring) Cluck U... I mean, University Chicken
3) What self-respecting hot wing-serving establishment would run out of Coke and only stock up the carcinogenic, aftertaste-inducing diet variety?

I will always refer to this place as the Korean Cluck U... I mean, University Chicken.

Sans the flat screen T V showing college ball.

"Hi, sir. Can I just start off with the large OB?" I asked the owner who had the absolute need to call 1.800.I.FIX.GRILLS. He looked at me, mouth agape, and asked, "R u surr? Et beeg bodel..." and demonstrated with his hands gradually moving further apart from each other.

The man obviously was downplaying my Korean drinking abilities, so I just succumbed to his offer of getting the smaller 12-ounce bottle. My sister, who is my partner-in-crime on my local SJ Yelp tours, rolled her eyes and knew better.

"Just get another one later," the mature high schooler (don't add her on MySpace, pervs!) told me. Born in the Year of the Rooster, she has had an affinity to delectable chicken dishes ever since her teeth grew in. So, naturally, 99 Chicken was the perfect spot to satisfy both of our Chinese zodiac symbols, as I was born in the:

Year of the Beer

The wait for Combo #7 chicken platter was long, as many have stated in their reviews. Of course, the first bottle of OB flowed down my esophagus faster than the legion of Toyota Camrys driving down El Camino so I ordered a second. I should have never listened to Mr. "Before.Shot.Pic" at any dental office.

Oh well...

It was worth it when the plate of four different types of Korean-styled fried chicken came out. The wait, managed by the consumption of two beers, made the pieces of chicken taste amazing. Spicy Sauce Chicken was the one that had me greedily taking my sister's portion.  There was a nuclear bomb that went off in my mouth after each bite, so I'm going to appropriately declare them:

KJ-iSSCWMD
[Kim Jong-il Spicy Sauce Chicken Weapon of Mass Destruction]

Finishing the plate of food had my belly sadly singing, "I'm so ronery...so ronery...o ronery and sadry arone..." The meal was completely satisfying, but the next time I go, I'm getting the large OB. Don't order the "other" brand of Korean beer, HITE, as the acronym means:

"Hi. I Take Ecstasy."

Avoid people drinking those narsty tasting beverages like the West Nile Virus.

Wingstop is better than 99 Chicken.

Ya thats right i said it, wingstop is better than 99 chicken. But only by a lil bit.

Their restaurant is really chill and their service is okay. Althought its frickin  hard to understand the korean man with the messed up grill. They got pictures of past customers posted up all over their walls, but me and my friend didnt get ours taken, i guess we were too ugly or we came too early, right when they opened.

We went there for lunch and ordered the variety meal which had the different chicken flavors. None stood out too much, but the honey on the chicken was pretty good. Everything else was mediocre and mild in spicyness.

It is a self serve restaurant, so I was a little confused when they didnt give me a plate to eat on when I first went there. You could eat at their salad bar for free and take a few scoops out of their rice cooker.

Overall, it seems like a really family friendly place, but the chicken was mediocre, and I couldnt understand wtf that guy with the messed up grill was saying to me.

This is some of the best fried chicken i've had.  The chicken itself was juicy, while the batter was crispy and saucey all at the same time.

Its a little pricey but 1 order is usually good for 2 people and of course you have sides (unlimited) like any korean restaurant.

WARNING KFC LOVERS this place will ruin you for the Colonel's chicken.

I wouldn't have known about this place if it weren't for Yelp.  The fried chicken is crispy but not greasy or heavily battered.  It's fried in cottonseed oil.  How that helps I don't know and I don't care.  It taste good and that's what matters.  The chicken is always served piping hot.  No sitting under a heat lamp waiting for someone to order here.  The chicken is fried after you order and takes about 20 minutes so don't come here expecting a quick lunch or dinner.  Spend those 20 minutes at the "free" all you can eat salad bar.  The salad bar is small and only has a few items.  You can also eat what I can only describe as something like kettle corn while you wait.  The chicken (drums and wings only) comes plain, sweet, spicy and hot spicey.  Spicy's my favorite.  Even if it's not shown on the menu you can order a combo but they will charge you a little bit more money.  KFC doesn't charge extra for ordering half extra crispy and half original recipe.  The service is not consistent and the prices are higher than KFC.
I wish 99 Chicken and KFC would get married and have a kid.  The perfect combination of non-greasy chicken with great sides like biscuits, corn on the cob, coleslaw and mash potatoes with gravy.  Sides you can actually get "to go".

I love complicated, exotic foods with a variety of textures.

I do.

BUT...

I stress, but...

There is something to be said about good 'ole favorites.

COMFORT FOOD. SIMPLICITY.  GOOD TIMES.

That's what 99 Chicken is.  Simple, comfort food shared best with laughter and good company.  A small, homey place on El Camino with a very flashy neon sign promoting EXACTLY what they serve: BEER and CHICKEN.  Bring your friends here, order some wings and a beer and chat the night away.

The boy and I had so much fun here, we vowed to bring our lovely friends as well.  The chicken is GOOD. Seriously, who would have thought that cottonseed oil produces such wonderful fried chicken?

The Itinerary:

Free SALAD bar & Rice - I love salad, and free salad is bomb.  Not too many fixins' but its okay since its just there to give you something to nibble on while you wait for your wings that take 15-20 mins!

House beer (and a BEAR in the house :D) - I wanted a small OB, but they were huge for one person...the HITE was GIGANTIC.  Seriously. Family size.  The house beer was good, and so was the BEAR. Handsomely good.

Combo Chicken (Sauce chicken, spicy, honey, and regular)  - Dude. These were gigantic.  My favorite was the regular and honey.  Let's start with the regular.  THIN, NON-BREADY skin fried to a perfect crisp, with juicy juicy and tender chicken  on the inside.  There was pretty much NO oily fingers after picking the chicken up...most possibly the healthiest fried chicken I've EVER had.  OH MY GOD.  THE HONEY WINGS.  Crisp, tender, juicy chicken with REAL honey drizzled on it.  For anyone that likes the chicken nuggets & Honey taste... this is A MILLION times better.  I have to say, next time I go....its a PLATE of honey chicken ALL for MYSELF.

LOVE wings - I LOVE SPICY. I LOVE THESE WINGS.  OMFG.  Kimchee flavored wings?  Has to be; it had that kimchee flavor to it and you don't realize it at first, but that stuff NUMBS your tongue after a while.  Luckily, my trusty 500ccs of beer kept my tongue safe...fire extinguisher

Kimchee Jigae - gotta have the soup.  It's good, perfect spicy; boiling hot with tons of ingredients.  Thumbs up.

The boy and I are not fatties. I repeat. NOT fatties.

We ... just.... eat...

My faves were the original, the HONEY (OMFG.) and the Love Wings (ORGASM).

There we go.

Friends don't let friends NOT go to 99 Chicken.

(chews on a gigantic honey wing)

Dear Heart and Arteries,

I am truly sorry for all the damage I have done to you over the years.  With all my cravings for carne asada fries or Beard Papa cream puffs, I'm sure you have been hard at work trying to keep all the pipes working.  However, please keep in mind that I am trying to rectify the current problem.  My first solution is in the form of something called cottonseed oil.  You see, instead of eating chicken fried in canola oil or vegetable oil, I went to a place called 99 Chicken where they use this new type of oil.  In addition, their frying technique causes there to be less oil in the food.  I am doing this for you guys.  Also, instead of dipping it in fatty ranch dressing or disgusting honey mustard, I am eating it either by itself, covered in sweet sauce, or a spicy sweet sauce.  Not only do these sauces taste better, but they are homemade!

In order to prevent further strain on your day-to-day activities, on this day, I actually ate salad at the unlimited salad bar!  I mean, we're talking lettuce, broccoli, carrots, corn, and pickled daikon!  As much as I don't like salad, I ate it anyway.  Again, because I care about you guys.

Rest assured, that my commitment is not only to you guys, but that of your family and friends.  And in order to further prove my point, I insisted that 3 other people and their hearts and arteries join me in this endeavor.  And even though, we spent about $46 total on 30 pcs. of chicken, in the end we were quite satisfied with our accomplishment.  Again, not for us, but for you.

On a final note, we were given what looked like a giant alka seltzer at the end of our meal.  Knowing the fact that we ate healthier, I knew this was not needed.  But, to our surprise, our waiter poured a little bit of water in the small bowl and magically, these supposed pills were transformed into cleaning cloths for our hands.  We immediately used these as to prevent any contamination from this outside world.

I hope you see this particular occasion as a stepping stone to what should be a better future.  I hope you see these solutions fit and you continue to function for the next 50-60 years.  Thank you again for your cooperation.

Jamie

Dear Liver,

Unfortunately, with this new change, we had to increase your roll too.  On future visits, you will be inundated with large amounts of an alcoholic beverage.  The type of beverage will vary from time to time, but will probably either be beer or soju or even possibly both.  This is a MANDATORY change.  We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but the entire team thanks you for your sacrifice.

Jamie

If you're tired of regular KFC, this place offers a tempting alternative.  Forget the old man with the white mustache, the elderly Korean gentleman behind the counter makes some pretty damn good fried chicken too.  Plus, I don't know too many other places that give you complimentary popcorn and kimchi sidedishes while you wait for your food.

I went here for dinner with a co-worker and was pleasantly surprised at how good the chicken tastes.  We ordered a combo platter which came with sweet, spicy, and regular fried chicken.  The portion size was fairly large, so we split that, and ordered separate rice bowls, along with a liter of beer.  All of that came out to only $20.   A very fair price given the amount of food, and taste quality.

The staff doesn't speak much english, but they were more than friendly.  I would definitely come here again to try the other different styles of fried chicken (super spicy anyone?), and quench my thirst with the cheap yet tasty Korean beer.

Yummo!

This is as close as it gets to chicken you get in Korea. Owned and operated by a couple, service can lack in speed when it gets busy. But you have to give them credit for takeing orders, frying chicken, cooking other dishes, serving, clearing tables, washing dishes (although i thnk they have one other help) and taking care of the register. They are sweet and nice couple always ready to take your picture for the collection they have on their wall.

I always get a combo #2: chicken, choice of dinner entree and beer or soju. I get either spicy or fire chicken and I have to agree with other reviews that their sauce is too sweet. But I can understand why fire chicken is not burning spicy... it's just not meant to be like that. For dinner entree I stick with kim-chee fried rice. It's good, consistent and I think it kind of goes with the casual dining theme we have going here. Beer is so light that it taste like water. Good for those who like light beers or just want to keep drinking for the hell of it.

As for korean pop corn and salad bar? I guess it fills the void while waiting for your meal to arrive. I wouldn't rave about it but I'm glad they have those pickled radish. You can't eat chicken with out it.

So I told myself I was never going to eat fried chicken again after I had KFC a year ago and felt like I was having heart palpitations.  After reading all of the reviews on here, my fiance and I just had to check it out.

We got the original/regular and it was pretty good.  The chicken came out hot, the meat was juicy, and the batter was light.  The salad bar is small, but it had some fresh mixed greens, coleslaw, and radish cubes.  Hooray, my esophagus didn't feel like it had a layer of greasy film!  Incorporating salad and hot tea probably helped as well.

Okay first of all I'm a pescatarian, which means I'm vegetarian plus fish.  I came here to make my carnivore friend happy...and figured there had to be some non-chicken options.

The best choice on the menu for me was the Fish & Chips...and the fried fish was probably the best I ever had.  But I was a little disappointed that the dish was overwhelmingly chips (fries).  The dish should be called chips and fish.  But at least they had a dish without chicken. And free salad from a small salad bar that one could help themselves with.  Yay!

After the meal, the owner asked us if we'd like a picture to hang on the wall (the place is full of pics of happy customers), but I politely declined...how would that look for me, a self-described pescatarian, to be eating at a place called 99 Chicken? Not a good idea.  O and I have to admit the chicken looked really good ...

Free salad bar.  Salad bar is very simple though.  I ordered the spicy wings.  It wasn't anything special.  Regular chicken with sauce.  Not spicy though.

Try the hot chicken wings. The spicy wings are spicier than the hot wings are hot. Parking is easy. Service is great. If you go in a big group they take your picture and plaster it  on the wall. Bring extra wet naps.

I don't get it. Maybe I need to chug down a couple of beers to enjoy the experience more.

It's just chicken. Personally, it's not even that great! Yes, they are gigantic but the original is greasy and bland. Too much of that funky chicken flavor after a while.

And it's overpriced for chicken. I'd rather go to Wingstop.

Two stars because service is friendly.

what! I haven't wrote a review for 99 chicken!  The chicken is fried well not the kind that drips oil when you eat it and they're open till 1am so it's great late nite eats.  In fact, I was here this past friday at 12am. :)

The male owner is nice and would chat it up with you.  The female owner, haha, not so much.  I won't get into details because she's usually in the kitchen anyway.

The salad buffet is a great compliment to the fried chicken.  We usually get the sampler and the chicken isn't small.  They're good size drumsticks unless you get the all wing platter.

We had a fun time at this restaurant... partially because we were entertaining ourselves with how out of place we felt.... not in a bad way... just a "unique" experience for a group of (some non-food-adventurous) Canadians to meet.

Since we booked for a group, we had the room at the back of the restaurant which is decorated with Korean photo's of Korean people all around, similar to the look of blown up pages of a Korean magazine.  And, above was a black light in the florescent light fixture.  In the corner of the room was an old typewriter, and an old projector (some thought sewing machine) in another corner.... interesting.

The service was definitely a 4-5 Star... the owners are super friendly and attentive.  If they don't come right away, there is a handy little bell to slam your hand on, and they will appear smiling in the doorway.

The sauce chicken was super saucy and really good.  I'm not a huge fan of chicken with skin on it... but, for those who do like chicken that way, I think you'll love this place.  The sauce chicken wings are HUGE!!!  Similar to what normal chicken wings would look like on steroids ;)  They have a free salad bar (with purchase, I'm sure ;) and the Korean caeser salad dressing was really good.

If you are a fried chicken, or chicken wing fan... you'll probably really love this place.  If others were going, I would go again... and try to find our spot on the wall of fame ;)

Finally!  My kitchen for fried chicken!

I don't like to fry at home at all so this place was a great discovery.  The basic chicken was as fresh as a fresh fried chicken can be with just salt and pepper.  Not overly seasoned like my previous KFC experience and not dripping in oil, just juicy.  I think this is over analyzing a basic chicken but I have to defend why it's good.

Their menu showcase multiple sauces for the chicken: Spicy Sauce, Hot Spicy Sauce, Love Chicken, Sauce Chicken ... hmmm, very descriptive.   I'm just guessing the Sauce Chicken is not spicy, Spicy Sauce is spicier and Hot Spicy makes it even more spicy with the word "HOT" on it.  Who knows.  The owner/server was kind but not helpful in this case since it's a point and order event with little understandable english exchanged.

Going with the above theory, we also ordered Sauce and Spicy with the plain so I can't help with the differences of of Love and Hot Spicy and I don't think I'll be finding out soon.  I was quite happy with the plain and dipping it on the provided sauce.  Eating the sauced chicken reminds me of eating salad swimming in dressing.  Ok, it's a bit better than that coz you can have lotsss of rice with each bite of sauce.

btw, is cottonseed oil healthier?

Ever had fried chicken made from cotton seed oil?  Come to 99 chicken and you'll get your chance.  I think KFC has nothing on this place.  Waaaay too commercial.  I've been eating Popeyes anyway for my fried chicken fix.   Anyhow, this place is right off Steven Creek in pretty much what I call K-town San Jo.

So we order a plate and it comes out looking oh so delicious.  Every drumstick feels like you're committing sin, but at least you can rest easy knowing that it was fried in healthy cotton seed oil *two thumbs up* (I read that on the wall of the little joint).  They also got this hot sauce they coat it with which we got half of our order in. Man I love eating spicy.  You just gotta have that tingle on your tongue.  You know what I mean?

Everyone fucked me that night and I was forced to pile away about 7 drumsticks of heart cloggin death.  (Fuck you don't judge me)

Anyway, there's also a salad bar, but it's really nothing to write about IMHO.  This establishment is ran by Koreans so there are a lot of Koreans usually there which is cool is my book cause I love Korean women ;)  (Holla!)

Just writing about this place makes me want to go get some.  MMMMmmmmMmmm f-r-i-e-d c-h-i-c-k-e-n how I love you so.

Best fried chicken that I have ever had!  The couple running the shop know me by now.  They fry their chicken in 100% cottonseed oil.  The walls are covered in photos of their customers all enjoying the fried chicken.  See if you can spot your friends?  They do have a self service salad bar, a rice cooker, and a self service tea dispenser.

What I come here for is the combination fried chicken, their popcorn and the OB Beer.  As you wait for the BEST fried chicken you will have in the Bay Area, you look at the silver bucket and wonder what the hell that is for.  That is the bone bucket!  When the chicken arrives, tear a piece of the meat from the bone.  Steam rises into the air.  Get ready, because you are going stuff yourself with crispy fried chicken.

R U Kidding!!??  Have you ever had Korean style fried chicken?

I made yelp account just so I can write a review on this place.  I usually trust yelp reviews.  I was expecting a decent Korean style fried chicken.

their sauce chicken tasted like chicken in ketchup.  I can make it better tasting at home.

Also, what's with the "self-sevice"?  I don't know what I was thinking, when I gave them close to 20% in tip.

If you are looking for authentic Korean style "yang nyum chicken" please do not go to this place.

For all you Buffalo Wing lovers out there, this is the Korean-style equivalent!  Forget about going to KFC (yeah, that's not the healthiest) for fried chicken,  this place is good.  It's a relatively small restaurant but you're really for the food.  The owners are pretty friendly too except they're a little hard to understand.  But the Spicy Sauce Chicken and the Sauce Chicken are really good!  We're going to have to try the other dishes.

Very good chicken!!!  I like the self serve salad and rice.  It couldn't get better for this kind of sized restaurant. But a bit pricy for fried chicken. I'm telling you, ITS GOOD but don't expect any thing more.

1 * for service
1 * for atmosphere
1 * for space
5 * for good chicken
5 * for very plumped chicken
5 * for open late

I think I came here expecting too much after reading all the reviews.  The chicken wasn't unlike any other fried chicken I have had.  I did like the honey chicken and free self-serve salad bar and rice.  They sure have a lot of pictures of their customers.  I noticed the same girl in 3 different pictures...she must really like this place.  I might come back here only if I was in the area.

I was disappointed by my meal here tonight based on Yelp expectations.  My boyfriend and I ordered the combination platter, which had the basic, sweet, sauce, and spicy sauce chicken (to my recollection).  My favorite was basic, which tasted like your KFC (this is a compliment in my mind) but with less batter (good thing) and better quality chicken.  The sweet was decent too, but here I come to my biggest objection with this place.  Too much sugar!  The sweet without sauce was okay, but the sauce and spicy sauce were cloyingly sweet.  I had to wipe some of it off before I could eat it, and my boyfriend, the king of sugar in sauces, even thought it was too much for him.  I prefer to use my sugar allotment on dessert, thank you very much!

That being said, it's not bad.  For less than the price, however, I'd be happier with a bucket of good ol' KFC.  I appreciate the free salad bar, but service was virtually nonexistent.

The decor is interesting.  Photos of people eating in the restaurant adorn the walls, alongside pictures of Korea (I assume), and random pictures of Marilyn Monroe.  In the 1 unisex bathroom, there was a framed picture of a Saturday Evening Post cover.  Wtf?

I won't be back.  This is 1 Korean food bandwagon I won't be jumping on.
