$1 for a tasty bite of slice. Yes, it is always, ALWAYS, fresh and hot. And yes, it is a bit "floppy." They must throw a little garlic into the mix, and take it easy on both the cheese and the sauce (in a good way). The pizza is like crack, you know its bad, but once you've had it, you know you'll be back.

I'm not sure what people are saying about the slices having a cardboard feel, honestly, I think that this is FAR from the truth.

If you are in the area, and need a nibble on the cheap, this be the spot.

stop going here! one block down and on the other side is much better 1dollar pizza (WITHOUT TAX) MUCH BETTER.
Believe me and not AS skeevy.

If you try 2Bros, I bet you'll denounce this place. You can tell the slices are made with better ingredients. I thought 99 cents was good until 2bros came along!.

HOW can you not love pizza for 99 cents??????  It's not the best pizza in the world.  It's not "Italy's finest" or anything.  But it's 99 CENTS.  And open really late.  It is DEFINITELY my favorite stop on the way home from going out.  Grey's Papaya is 2nd...but this place-- oh my.  It's just simple, thin pizza.  Nice ratio of crust: sauce: cheese.  I like that the crust is not quite al dente, making it very soft and bready--aahhh.

The guys are quick, and polite for the most part--though it's definitely a hectic ordering experience and he's EXTREMELY adamant about you getting the whole damn pie when you've asked for only 6 TWICE...  BUT, I don't hate.  He's a cool friendly guy who gives us that "I know you" smile everytime we go there and the pizza definitely hits the spot.  You have to just appreciate it for it's price and simplicity.

Its buck a slice pizza that hasn't killed anyone yet.  The place doesn't seem to ever close, and has shakers of salt, pepper and garlic so the taste is acceptable.  Also, they move such a volume of product that its always hot and fresh from the oven.  I splash mine with the hot sauce for a great flavor.

Recently Two Brothers opened up one block away.  The hot sauce makes this still my preference, but 2 Bros seems like slightly bigger slices, and has other options like dollar chicken.

Summary: This joint is just a counter and a window and it seems like it never closes and is cheap so take your complaints and shove them down with a cheap slice.

I've eaten here over the years more times than I'd actually like to admit (even to myself) -- when I lived on West End Avenue I'd stop by here in a taxi on my ride home from bars (they used to offer after 11pm an entire pizza for $5!), when I visit my friends who live in the area (one only a block away, one a couple blocks away, one a few blocks away) I've foolishly stumbled across this place again and again.

Honestly the pizza has never been good and still isn't. It's sort of like cardboard, there's no real marinara of which to speak, and the cheese is minimal -- but for only a buck it's filling... put some chili flakes on it and if you're drunk enough you'll hopefully forget about it soon enough.

But it's the crowd/environment that I find so absolutely unappealing... There are always lots of homeless people hanging out around -- and sometimes they'll just push their way to the front of the line and slowly dig through their pockets for change to pay... A couple times I've purchased slices of pizza for these people because it felt I had to or else. I'm not one to be intimidated, but sometimes you've gotta do what you've gotta do -- better safe than sorry... And, honestly, I'd rather just stay altogether -- especially since there is now an equally cheap joint with superior product and service just a block down 9th avenue where you can actually sit down and enjoy yourself.

I noticed the sign, maybe what feels like a million times. Never thought to walk over to 9th Ave for pizza though.

That all changed when I read David's review of 2 Bros Pizza just up the street. With his glowing rec of a $1 slice of pizza, I just had to try it out, so I bookmarked it. Luckily, I was coming to Kevin F's roof deck party the next day.

I tried 2 Bros before alcohol, and this place after alcohol. Even with alcohol on board, this pizza still wasn't anywhere as good as 2 Bros.

Did I write 2 Bros Pizza enough times in this review?

Bottom line, if you need pizza that bad, walk 2 blocks to 2 Bros Pizza and pay the extra penny for a passable slice of pizza.

If this place cost a penny more, I'd be forced to take it down to 1 star, but I left it there for those times when a penny, or more likely the couple blocks could make a difference, especially late at night after 2 Bros Pizza closes.

If you're craving a fresh slice of pizza anytime of the day this is the place to go. YuM. Absolutely no seating, just walk up to the window and tell the guys how many slices you want. Okay, so it's located across the street from Port Authority and may seem a bit sketchy, especially at 4AM, but it's so worth the buck.

I think the 42nd and 9th Ave block could easily be the cheapest way to eat through NYC. Cheesesteaks, hot dogs and pizza all less than $5. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs that night. Everything just looked good. Then again, it was 2 AM and everyone was drunk.

99 Cents Fresh Pizza was like a peak of sunshine during  a cloudy winter's day. It made everyone happy and the service was so welcoming. I got a cheese slice and soda for two bucks. This pizza parlor is more of a pizza stand. It's actually a pizza window and we ate on the sidewalk. The pizza wasn't greasy because it had minimal cheese on it and just a thin coat of sauce. It was better than Little Caesars and just as big as a regular NY slice. Back in the day I heard you could get a whole pie here for five bucks only. 99 Cents Fresh Pizza aka "Sobering Slice" is such a great deal and it's not even a recession special. Its been like that forever and will continue to be year round.

The deal? Awesome. The food? Boring. For $2 I got two decently sized slices of pizza. Sure, the slices are sort of thin-ish, but they fill you up.  Only reason I got two slices was because the dude behind the counter didn't understand my order. Trying to clarify would have only confused the man,so I forked over the money and sat down on a stool that stood two feet high. For a cheap slice, there was copious amounts of grease, which according to another reviewer means there would have to be ample cheese and sauce.

Why only two stars then? First, they have sweet-tasting pizza sauce and I'm not a fan. Second, the crust was soft. No crunch, no flavor. Would I go to 99 Cents Fresh Pizza again? Sure why not, but I'd get a hero before another slice of blah.

If you can say YES to any of the following questions, 99 Cents is right for you. If you're looking for a good slice, walk around the corner to Monetti's and pick your choice.

1.Are you drunk?
2.Is it pass 2am?
3. Do you only have $1 on you and are STARVING?
4.Are you drunk?
5.Are you having a "Let's do all the things we did in college" night with you friends?
6.Are you drunk?

Ah, the memories...they come gushing back.

During my first year in New York, I tried very hard to relive college.  I used to go wild on 80s night at Joshua Tree amidst a sea of massive TV screens playing crazy ass videos; go to Rudy's for the $6 pitchers of PBR and free popcorn; think Heartland Brewery was the coolest pub in town; go to my buddy's apartment in what was called "the banker building" on 42nd and 9th to smoke a doobie by the window and philophisize about life and how "complicated" it is in the big city, and then invariably stop by 99 cent pizza on my way home.  Thank you for feeding me during my "highest" moments, 99 cent pizza.  You were truly cheap, and frankly it didn't matter if you were delicious! (For the record, you weren't)

Thankfully, my life has progressed well over the last 3 years, and so have my pizza joints.

False advertising at its finest.

I went in because I thought I would get a slice for 99 cents. Instead it was

$1.07!

Alert the presses!

Oh well, still good enough for me. I'm not gonna bitch about eight cents. I only do that with gas prices.

The slice was decent but $1.07 is cheaper than other pizza places I had so that was a big plus.

This isn't Lombardi's or anything out of the ordinary. You are not going to be escorted to a table, you'll grab your pizza and eat in inside of the car or on the sidewalk..You're probaly not getting any napkins, and it's not the type of place that you travel all the way from brooklyn just to have a slice.

But hey it's a $1.07(it used to be 99 cents). There is no such thing as fancy slices with lobster or sausages on it,no high quality products.Just the basic,a cheese slice.

For less than three dollars you get two slices and a can soda. You cannot beat that price anywhere else.If you happen to be clubbing after 3am,you're starving and you want to eat now, pass by,grab your slice and walk off.

To be fair, I had to try 99 Cents Fresh Pizza only because http://Slice.SeriousEa... come did the shoot-out recently them and 2 Bros Pizza only two blocks away. The pizza stand is located on the NW corner  of 43rd St. and Ninth Ave in the midst of Hell's Kitchen/Times Square district. I visited during the day and still was amazed how crowded it was. Students, tourists, vagrants and mothers with buggies - all hungering for a slice or two.

The venue doesn't sport indoor dining nor fastidious personnel. I took a coke in the self-serve fridge, placed a twenty plus 3 quarters on the counter and got back 2 piping out slices and eighteen bucks in change. I peeled away and gazed on what I purchased. The proof was in the tasting.

The first thing was the flavorless crust. Light and unsubstantial, the bread came across as institutional; as from the hospital. The sauce was light not as sweet as 2 Bros but fair. The cheese was not as top heavy as 2 Bros but it was there.

Near the Eighth Ave Line. and the M11,16,42

Did I say 99 cents? I can't even buy a candy bar much less a nice, cheesy slice of pizza.

Go here, find this place. Its worth it!

Maybe not the best quality pizza...But come on it's 99 cents!

This place gets some serious points for being so outrageously cheap.

YES, 99 cent pizza makes my life worth living.

It's not fucking gourmet, it's not made with top shelf ingredients, it's not super fancy, it's not even all that good to be honest.

But it's a freaking dollar. Not even. It's 99 cents. That, my friends, makes it awesome by default.

Is it the best pizza I've ever had?  No but it's up there (especially late night!)
Is it the most original pizza I've ever had?  No but sometimes simplicity is great.
Is it the best pizza value I've ever had?  Yes, Yes, Yes

Wow, I'm all for variety and trying new pizza, but I have yet to find a pizza that provides more bang for the buck than 99 Cents Fresh Pizza.  Great quick service and even though there are always people hovering around for a slice, you never have to wait long.  They are always turning over their pizza too which means.. it's well, Fresh!  That means a lot because so many other pizza joints I believe are suffering from the left out all day issue.  That will never be an issue here with such huge turnover, you are guaranteed a fresh slice day or late, late night.

This place is not worth four stars! What's up with that? Yes it's cheap, but that shouldn't be the only requirement! This place used to be a lot better a few years ago. But by now, too many corners have been cut. The slices are so tiny and too chewy. There are plenty of other 24 hour pizza places to visit post-barhopping in this city. I don't mind paying twice the price for a pizza twice the size and twice as good. And possibly most important of all, the pizza is no longer 99 cents. It's $1.07 now! It's a sad day when the recession hits even 99 cents pizza :(

It's 99 cent pizza. It tastes like generic pizza, because it is. If you're expecting coal-oven, crispy perfection and goodness, you're out of your damn mind. This place gets four stars because it exemplifies perfection within its genre, which is the 99-cent-pizza genre.

For 99 cents, it ain't bad. And further, I'll wager that it's better than any pizza you'd get outside the New York City metro area.

If you want to make a little trip out of it, grab your pizza and walk toward Lex. There's a nice little outdoor sitting area to the right. Not only do you get pizza value, you get al fresco dining. What the hell else do you want?!?

Check your expectations at the door, or in this case the walk-up window if you are looking for high-quality NY pizza. This slice isn't the mammoth one that made the city famous nor is it worth Twittering about. But, for .99 it is the cheapest and quickest fix for a 'za craving in Midtown. $2.75 will buy you a beverage and a twin slice. Overcome blandness with hot sauce. Have cash ready.

5 stars because there's a LOT of pizza much much worse than this that costs a LOT more. you know i'm not lying.

5 stars because it's good. but no, in case all you knights of the round table are wondering, it's not the fabuloso holy grail of pizza.

5 stars because it doesn't need to be.

it's 99 cents a slice and it tastes and feels like pretty good ordinary ny pizza.

It's lost a star since i used to come here some years ago when i worked @ ColdStone's in time square. i feel like bakk then (2004 or 2005, somewhere there) the pizza genuinely tasted better...now its got less cheese, its more chewy (but not that good sorta chewy), and its not 99ct. anymore! i mean, $1.07 is just a joke to me, because you cant call your establishment 99ct pizza if thats NOT the price...ahh well, i guess times is hard for everyone...either way, the pizza is still alrite, and i wont turn it down @ 4am when i'm comin home from the bars/clubs...its good around then, for my money tho...i'd rather do 2 Bros. Pizza (chekk my review), its a dollar and atleast a million times better...

Not bad if you're looking for cheap pizza. They certainly skimp on the toppings (even the cheese), so expect a pretty bare pizza. But for 99 cents, it's certainly not a bad deal at all and tastes somewhat decent too.

If you're looking for dirt cheap, quick bite, give it a shot.

I am going to give it 5 stars for the price alone basicly. It always saves me when I am in the area and a bit on the booze side of life.

The pizza itself isn't even that bad and for the price, it just adds to the experience even more. A ton of taxi drivers and drunk people will be around, and if it's dead just wait a few seconds. Sometimes there is a nice long line and then other times there is no one at the window. You hold your breath for 20 seconds and there will be a swarm of people that you don't know where they came from.

It's under the port authority so it is of course very sketchy but a true new yorker and handle themselves - just watch yourself.

This place is usually pretty busy, but they keep the crowd happy with fast and decent pizza slices for 99c, or 2 slices and a can of soda for 2.75. If I'm in a hurry and the line is not prohibitive, then I'll stop and pick up a slice for a nice boost of energy. There's not much more to say about this place, it's not worth going out of your way for, but if you're in the area (it's right outside of Port Authority on the 9th Avenue side) and you're hungry for pizza, then consider this place first for a cheap and satisfying fix.

Do you have a hundred pennies jingling around in your pocket as the A train comes to a screeching halt at 42nd Port Authority? When was the last time you rubbed elbows and talked pepperoni with the friendly neighborhood vagrant? Do you enjoy fresh pizza that is so hot that its cheese can be effectively used to extract the roof of your mouth? I had $4 in my pocket today and a decision to make. I wanted to make this last for 2 days. I decided to wander around till I found that 99cent pizza stand, in that sketchy area by the on ramps of something. That something is the port authority bus depot, and it is the iconic landmark to help you get in the genral area of 99 cents pizza. I ordered 2 slices and a can of root beer, and ate it on the shelf, I wandered around the corner but all I found was a fire hydrant and a few bags of trash. Nowhere to camp out and eat my two slices and hold my can, I walked back around to the ledge, and someone asked me for a dollar to have a slice of pizza. I certainly wasn't going to give her my last dollar. The pizza slices were delicious, of course they are skimpy on the sauce and cheese, but hey at least they had garlic powder and oregano shakers you can put as much as you wanted. Pizza of every quality should be 99 cents, but in the meantime, this is where you go for bargain pizza.
