When i first moved to LA, trust me I was all about the 99 cents and only store.  But shiite, most everything that's sold is unhealthy or will end up in a land fill very very soon.  It' not that economical to have to keep on buying a can opener over and over again because the ones they sell at the 99 cent store have a life span of one usage. Just suck it up, shell out five bucks for one that'll last you a few years.

Sure, I was all for their cleaning products too, until I realized I was purchasing the most toxic for the environment chemicals.  A solution? Trader Joes!  Their cleaning products aren't that much more, and their toilet paper is reasonably priced.

Don't buy wine glasses, plates, or any other ceramic/glassware unless you want a healthy dose of lead poisoning.  Remember the chemical rejected toothpaste from China that was recalled last year?  Yes, it was sold at the 99 cent store.

The clientle isn't always, well, the most desirable.  Yes I mean crack heads everywhere leaning against you in their painfully slow lines.

Now the only reason when I'd give it 2 stars is because paper, pencils, pens, and that stuff, is well cheap, and it about one of the only good things to get at the 99 cent store.

JACKPOT!!! This should be your first stop for everything and if you don't find it here then and only then should you hit your nearest Target store. I am a convert! I  was so pleasantly surprised to find that they carry the same items (same brands) that I buy elsewhere! I now get everything at the 99 cent only store: Toilet Paper, Scotties Facial Tissues, Avocados, Asparagus, Apples, Bacon, Cheese, Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate, Cooking Spices,  House Plants, Bottled Water, Gift Bags, House Cleaning Supplies,  Kitchen sponges, Nail Polish Remover, Tropicana Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice, Louisiana Chicken Wing Sauce, Christmas Cards and my favorite snack of all time Flammin Hot Cheetos Limon! This place a GOLD MINE!

They have Kerns juices and I was able to get 6 nija costumes for a trivia night, and a witches hat for halloween, they have random foods and crap for your house.

It's not the biggest, but it's got the greatest finds.

"THe Happiest Place on Earth"
I'm from a small town without the gloriousness of 99cent stores, so when I discovered this one on Pico, I thought I was in heaven.  Despite its crowdedness and somewhat sketchy visitors, this store is THE place to buy  all the pointless little things that make you happy- i.e. funky jewelry, belts, scarves, purses, sandals, delicious body lotions and bath products,  brand name make-up straight from the Rite-Aide shelves-, greeting cards for every occasion.  They have ALL your school supplies, sometimes amazing finds for your bedroom (like framed pictures, picture frames, switchplates) kitchen utensils and tupperware and vitamins/medicines.  My entire patio is decked out with thriving 99cent store foliage in 99cent stores pots.  Next time you need to go to Longs for Kleenex and TP, go to the 99cent store FIRST and you'll come home with tons of fun stuff and you'll spend half as much.
