99 Cent Fresh was like an oasis in a deset on our quest to find pizza at 3AM Saturday morning. We were coming up short every direction we turned. After following a tip from what seemed to be ladies of the night, we discovered this gem.

I handed the guy a 10. I said "We want a pizza. Half pepperoni. Half plain."
    He said "Ok. 4 minutes".
My sister said "Sup with that slice", motioning towards a mangled and likely forgotten about piece on the side of the work station.
He chuckled and looked at me with a puzzled face.
That was the extent of our interaction. I don't recall him even opening the cash register.

This might be the smallest pizza shop I have ever seen. They got pizza. It's 99 cents a slice. They have a fridge for sodas and a place to stand while you wait. That's it. Don't expect more.

This place is not good, but it's not bad.  It is, however, friends with my wallet and with my feeties (it's 2 blocks from my office).

It is fresh and 99 cents, so no false advertising here.  Come on, it doesn't say "99 cent, fresh and life-changing", does it?

Deliciously good but so bad. I juggled with 3 slices while trying to get on the 7train. Pure primal hunger stopper. Cheesy crispy and freshly hot.

99 cent pizza is surprisingly good considering the price.  Great value. I would have given it 5 stars but last time I was there the guy forgot that he took my money.  When the pizza finally came out of the oven, he tells me I did not pay.  I told him I did, he tells me I'm mistaken. I tell him I'm not trying to cheat him out of 2 lousy bucks, but he insists that I'm mistaken. He finally said fine, and I left with my pizza. But I was annoyed because he really thought I did not pay.

5 Stars! Why? Is there better pizza in NYC? Yes - but not near this price! .99 Fresh Pizza has the best pizza I have found in NYC for $1. There are many $1 places that either, lack good sauce, or cheese, or whatever but this place consistent pumps out quality cheese pizza for $1. I personally add the hot sauce they have to mine to add a little kick but either way it makes for a good, cheap, lunch!

For what it's worth, it's not bad pizza. It satisfies your appetite for a short time and it's good, not stale. And it's by GCT, so convenient right before or after a trip on the Metro North.

    I support 99 Cent Fresh :)

Definitely a fan of this place. I usually stumble in here around 4 AM on Friday and Saturday nights blasting music from Youtube off my iPhone and having some sort of dance party while I wait for a fresh pie.

Cheap, Fast, and Delicious! The guy behind the counter is funny and courteous. I'm more than welcome to add all my fun toppings for about 5 minutes before bolting out the door.

This is my drunk food staple!

    Breakdown:
Value: 1 out of 2 stars - it's only a $1 but it's not the best $1 pizza so I can't give it the full rating.
Quality: 1 out of 2 stars - it's good, but not the greatest
Service: 1 out 1 stars - fast, efficient
Round up/down factor - not needed.

I recently reviewed 2 Bros in the midtown east area as part of my $1 pizza trifecta from yesterday.

What was good: Toppings.  Parmesan, garlic powder, hot sauce, and more!  If you like extra depth of flavor to your slice, this place gives you the options.  Service was also great as well -- fast in giving you your food and fast in turning around pies from the oven.

Putting it all into perspective, however, in terms of the plain cheese slice that I had from 3 different joints yesterday, 2 Bros is better than 99 cent Fresh is better than 44th St Pizza.  The crust was a bit softer and didn't have the little bit of crunch that I personally am looking for. The sauce and cheese were also bland.

Not the best $1 pizza, but still pretty damn good.  And it's closer to my workplace so I will still give it a go every once in awhile.

Stopped by today to check out the 99 cent slices. I didn't have very high expectations but still walked away feeling like it was a waste of time, my 99 cents, and 350 calories.

There's something very Pizza Hutty about their slices. Actually, if I had to imagine what Pizza Hut's take on the NYC slice would be, this is it. The sauce and cheese lack flavor and the dough tastes like mass manufactured, cellophane wrapped bread.  I've had worse slices, but just barely. I guess it's a good spot if you are trying to save a few bucks, but for sheer taste, it's a miss.

One star for lackluster pizza, and one star for keeping prices down to earth.

99 cents for a slice? I will GLADLY take one! Wait, make that two. Or three!

The pizza wasn't SUPERB, but it was definitely fresh, hot, cheesy, and good enough to eat! Plus, the guys in there were actually super friendly and NICE.

When you think of how $2.50 is the NYC standard for a slice of cheese, not to mention you're treated rudely? With attitude? This place was fantastic!!!!! Thanks for the great pizza!

So I have tried this place twice.. and pizza is decent and cheap. The crust is definitely dougher and freshly made than the other spot. Lots of carbs, so if you're on a diet. Skip past this place.

Plus they're opening up another store on Lexington very close to where I wrote of another 99 cents pizza place. Since I go to this location around lunch time, there's always a line to the store.. and I believe the two slices of pizza is about $2.75...

So for cheap eats, pizza at about a buck a slice doesn't get anything better than this.

Maybe it's the fact that I was hungry but this pizza was pretty good for the price. I got my slice shook some hot peppers, oregano, Parmesan cheese, and squirted some hot sauce on it. It tasted better than 2 Brothers actually.

I'm sure it's just OK without any seasonings though, but it is only .99 cents so if you want some great pizza head to Lombardi's or Grimaldi's.

I recently returned and was disappointed with the pizza. Two slices that were very small and boring. Mind you they were edible, but these guys skimped on ingredients and my tongue suffered.

People wait in line for sub par pizza, thinking they are saving money. I'd rather buy one regular slice from Little Italy [http://www.yelp.com/bi.... Hell, I'd even try Sbarro's. What a sad existence.

Here's your moment of Zen: the size of the slice is smaller than a Chinese female gymnasts' footprint... of a 10th place finish.

Ok, I really don't know what a Chinese female gymnast's foot or footprint looks like... but the pizza slices are small. Ask me if I would rather eat one or the other... this argument is moot.

Hey! It's 99 cents per slice! I believe they only have good ol' "plain", but hey, it's 99 cents!

It's a standard slice of pizza: crust, sauce, polly-o.

2 slices and a can of soda are $2.75, plus tax.

Expect a fast-moving line at peak lunch hours.

There is no seating inside (it's just a counter) but there is an outdoor plaza with tables two doors down. And hey, 99 cents!

I live down the block from this place and am definitely a fan.

Is it the best pizza I've ever had?  Not by a long shot.  However, it's always fresh, the crust is crispy, the cheese plentiful--all the makings for a decent slice.  Plus, there's a plethora of herbs and spices to doctor the pizza's flavor.  The guys who work here are very friendly--and understanding of people who drag themselves in at 4 am in no condition to be talking, let alone ordering food.

But above all you can't beat with the price: a dollar a slice or, if you're feeling particularly hungry, $2.75 buys you two slices and a soda.  The value is great, the place stays open late, and the pizza is pretty tasty.  You can't argue with that.

    Dear 99 Cent Fresh Pizza,

You have NO business having shitty pizza in NYC.  None.  It's not how we roll, so please stop it.  Your 99 Cent gimmick doesn't do it for me, because two of your tiny sub-par slices are less satisfying than one regular slice from just about anywhere else.

So, in conclusion: knock it off.  You're making us look bad.

I agree with another yelper on here.  I'm not going to analyze the pizza.  It's 99cents, what do you want?  Gourmet fresh from Italy?  C'mon!  Knowing that I gave the guy $5 and got change back is a miracle for Mid-Town lunch!  I got the 2 slice special w/drink but added another slice and it only comes out to $3.75.  What?  You can't even buy a extra value meal at McDonalds.  Yes, it's not the best pizza but you can't really go wrong when you are on a budget!

It won't blow your mind but it won't blow your budget. Order a few, enjoy, and encourage the guys with the aprons to keep up the great work.

Nothing glamorous, but this is what NY pizza is all about isn't it?

The namesake says it all, definitely a solid place for a quick cheap lunch. The line outside can be intimidating but it moves pretty fast since the folks who work here are very speedy.

Wouldn't be my #1 choice for lunch because, well, it's just pizza. But at 99 cents, it's A-OK.

Tried this place yesterday.  Not bad for a slice of pizza for $0.99.  If you want toppings, it's $0.50 extra per topping.  Also on the weekend they have specials - $3 for a small pizza and $5 for a medium.  All plain cheese.

If you want a cheap lunch, this is an option.

For what it is, I give it five stars because it's always fresh, cheap, and because it's not the type of pizza that will make you feel guilty for indulging in "bad food". It's light for pizza, if that's possible and the dough is always fresh and warm, not too thin, thick or hard. They go light on the sauce on easy on the cheese and there is virtually NO grease (relatively speaking).

    Always consistent and fresh.

99 cents ($1.07 with tax) is the price that all plain slices of pizza should be!

It was not the best slice of pizza I've ever had. It was also not the worst.  It had a very thin crust with chewy ends which I like. It was a little skimpy on the cheese, and the cheese was a little rubbery, which I don't like. The slice itself seemed to be a little bit smaller in size than average. But it was decent pizza. For a buck and small change, I can overlook it's shortcomings and appreciate it for what it is - CHEAP EATS. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if I'm in the area and want a quick cheap bite, I would go back.

I work across from here and a coworker introduced me to this place over a year ago. I never thought it would be better than the crap you get in NYC public schools or at Chuck E. Cheese so I kinda stayed away. Figured I'd rather spend my $3 on a 'real' slice and just drink water for lunch.

But one day I tried it. Got the special....2 slices and a can of soda for $3. Was it quick? Yes. Was it cooked well? Yes. Was it overly greasy? Not at all.  I kinda got hooked instantly. We started to go at least once a week. More during the warmer months when we were able to sit outside somewhere.

There have been times when the pizza was a bit doughy. Times when it was slightly overcooked (which I actually prefer) but it's 'dollar pizza'.  It's nothing fancy like artichokes (my previous review...I love pizza!) but for what it is I've never regretted getting it for lunch aside from the carb consumption.

Plus: If you work in the area on a weekend you can get a small pie for $3. I've never had it but there's a sign outside. Hopefully I won't have to take advantage of it anytime soon.

Quick and tasty pizza for a buck.  I thought this place tasted better than Lombardi's and that place is supposed to be famous!  I came here around 10:30pm and it was a really good late night snack to oink on.  I just add garlic powder and it tastes really good.  It's seriously the hole in the walls that make the great pizza!

Great Hours, but Not Great Pizza.

Guess you can't expect greatness when paying 99 cents per slice, but you can get better pizza a couple of blocks away on Lex (E 45th & 46 Sts).  The 99 Cent Fresh Pizza there is better.

The pizza at this 99 cent joint is very minimal.  You can tell they are putting the very minimal amount of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese on their slices.  Ever since the Lex Ave one opened up, I haven't returned here.

Pizza here is passable but the price makes it exceptional.  The best way to get it is just on a paper plate with some hot pepper sprinkled on top.  They recently seem to have eliminated the sales tax, making the price an even $1 (was $1.07 for awhile).

The store itself can only hold about five customers, with the line snaking in from outside and then around to the counter and back out the same door.

The employees are friendly, serving and making the pizza at an incredible pace.  I have also seen them throw out a very disruptive beggar who had camped out in their store.  One can sympathize with someone like this but no one should stand between my pizza and me.

If you are short on money or want to cut back in these hard times while still enjoying hot, tasty food, check out this place.

You get what you pay for, plain and simple. You're paying 99 cents for a slice of pizza in New York City. It's dirt cheap, and you get at best, decent pizza for it.

They are stingy on the cheese etc, and the pizza is greasy, but if you're looking for something dirt cheap and quick (other than during lunch) this is the place to go. The line during lunch time tends to come out the door and get maybe 15-20 people long. I'd steer clear of it from 11:30-1:00 if you can, it's not worth it to wait for it.

If there was a 5 dollar Hot and Ready from Little Cesar's available next door, I'd take that any day of the week...

Really have to give it to the owner for opening this up in overpriced Midtown. 99 cent pizza is like a God-send for all of us unemployed who need to eat!  And honestly, I've had worse pizza at places that charge 3 bucks a slice.

I'm gonna have to knock a few stars down on this review.  I've eaten at this place just about everyday for the past two years and found what appeared to be a large type staple in my pizza yesterday.  I bit into my pizza and bit into a very hard substance only to find a small metal object which appeared to be a smashed staple from a box.

The pizza does taste really good but now I doubt quality control and cleanliness on so many levels.  As you can imagine I will never be back to this place but I guess that's natural huh.

I seriously cannot understand how jaded some "so called foodies" / yelpers whatever they want to consider themselves are. In all seriousness in a recession like i don't care if you are Daddy Warbucks or Hobo Jobo your going to appreciate 99 cent pizza being around. A dollar for a slice!!! lets get real that is one of the best deals known to man. Then throw on top of that $2.75 for two slices and a drink, name another place that your going to get that at besides 99 cent pizza or 2 bros pizza. Exactly, seriously us New Yorkers need to appreciate what we have instead of some people saying oh let me break it down the pizza was this and that etc. It's a damn slice of pizza that's pretty damn good if you ask me. It's not the world's greatest pizza, its not motorino but it gets the job done. It is probably especially convenient for the on the go business man or woman who just needs something to eat quickly and for cheap, on the go. I highly suggest this place to anyone!!!!

If you work in the area, get 2 plain slices and a can for under 3 bucks. The pizza is OK -- this isn't gourmet stuff, but if you go at lunchtime you're guaranteed to get a fresh, piping hot slice.

I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to find this place, or going at off hours. But it's definitely a great lunch option, and you can take your 2 slices to that little park up the street.

Ok, so I know a lot of you are wondering whether or not this is true...that you can find good pizza for 99 cents...and whether or not it's edible, especially here in Manhattan.

Well, guess what?  I am a believer now!

Sure, the option you have is...there is none.  They only serve cheese pizza.  But the demand is so high for this cheese pizza that they do indeed make it fresh when you get there.  In fact, right when I was getting there, a fresh pie came right out of the oven.

So I proceeded to get 2 slices, plus a bottle of water...total $2.75.

So they don't have a place to sit down.  So they don't give you free bread...and forget about table service.

But...I got fresh pizza, beverage and the service was very fast.  These are all pluses in my book.  Then I took my pizza, headed to the closes seating area outside in the shade, and enjoyed both slices, which were delicious.

I may need to make this a once a week venture!
