Oh, and I don't care what Srini has to say about this place (unless, of course, he agrees with me!).

I mean sure it is less money than a $2.50 slice but way smaller. I guess this place is acceptable if you don't want to spend money for food that day. Still can't eat this pizza on an empty stomach. It has a distinct taste.
***Oh yeah and now they are closed, yes I mean CLOSED. They actually got their throat slashed when the other pizza place opened at 473 Lexington. I guess thought they could survive on the same block but apparently not. Goodbye, but also don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. There are many other decent food options in the entire area of manhattan. You will NOT be too missed.
***I guess they did seem to close at the very end of May 2011. -

Look. It's 99 cent pizza. Let's not review it like we're at a Mario Batali restaurant, okay? It's every bit as good as Dominos or frozen pizza from the grocery store. If that sounds like a diss, it's not. It's tasty and filling and not a bad option in these troubling economic times.
May I suggest a wine pairing to go with your slices? Boone's Farm strawberry, of course. -

You can't go wrong with a slice of pizza for 99 cents!
Don't worry, it tastes good. -
Review from Max S.
Not all pizza is created equal.
There was barely any marinara sauce. The cheese tasted rubbery and the dough was not fresh at all.
If you were to microwave a 3 day old slice of Dominos, it would taste slightly better than this.
While the $0.99 price isn't bad (cheese only - add 0.50 + tax for pepperoni), you can easily get a better slice just about anywhere in the area - Little Italy Pizza, Naples 45, even Cafe Metro.
I think I'll skip on this place. -

I may have come embarrassingly close to failing physics, but I can definitely wrap my head around the basic concept of "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
Especially when I think about it in terms of pizza.
See, there's been this unfortunate trend of pizza getting ridiculously expensive in New York. We're talking almost, if not actually, three dollars for a freaking plain slice.
Of course, if physics teaches us nothing (and in my case, I guess it kind of did), then the rise in places offering up 99 cent slices was a forgone conclusion.
And the even better news, is that the quality of these cheapo slices has been getting better. Case an point, 99 Cent Fresh Hot Pizza (WHAT A NAME! I WONDER HOW MUCH A SLICE OF FRESH HOT PIZZA COSTS??)
The only downside to a place as fresh, and hot as umm... 99 Cent Fresh Hot Pizza, is that the slices you are eating are pretty much always guaranteed to be straight out of the oven, and roof of your mouth burning painful.
Of course, what's a little pain for a slice under a dollar?Listed in: New York Pizza Patrol

I'll never learn. Once again I blew my weekly food budget splashing out on truffle omelette breakfasts, scotch and steaks for lunch, lavish vodka martini and oyster mid-morning and mid-day snacks, bottle service for dinner, Taco Bell for fourth meal, and of course, the unlucky trips to the dog track. So with next to nothing left in my wallet and as many days left to pay day as I have fingers (damn yakuza), I searched yesterday for a cheap lunch around the office*. My search amounted to a short frogger-style walk across the street to 99¢ Fresh Hot Pizza. What's that, you ask?
It's cheese pizza, and it's only 99¢ + tax--if you decide to splurge for a slice of pizza with one topping, that can be had for the princely sum of $1.49 + tax--they usually have cheese, pepperoni, mushroom and broccoli options most of the time. The pizza itself consists of cheap cheese, sauce out of a can, and a crust that is not too thick and not too thin. Splurge on pepperoni and liberally apply crushed red pepper, parmesan, oregano, and garlic powder, and you've got something that's surprisingly, decently edible and tastes vaguely Italian. Come to think of it, I have definitely had pizza that didn't taste as good as this.
A final note, there is no seating or anything, so you'll be taking your pizza to go with you on a paper plate, which is fine since the pizza doesn't seem to be greasy at all (probably due to the protofuturecheese that they're using), so it's actually easy to walk with.
I feel a little weird actually_recommending_this, but... when judged on price + performance, it's actually... pretty not bad?

They Should Call it $1.08 Pizza.
It's annoying how the owner charges you tax on the 99 cent pizza. I don't enjoy carrying around 92 cents in change. The other dollar / 99 cent pizza places don't charge you tax.
The pizza is okay. Their white pizza slices are better. I admit, the pizza here is a lot better than the other 99 cent place on E 43rd St (3rd/Lex), but loses out to 2 Bros Pizza.
I've come here many times, but the owner sometimes gets on my nerves. He sometimes tries to rush you out the door to close up shop (they don't have a set exact closing time, it's random depending on how business is) and likes to hand you dollar bills in change, even when you pay with a $20. If I ever want $18 in singles, I know where to go now. -
Review from Craig R.
I stopped here after the typica lunch rush hours, and to be honest I was a little bit disappointed. I have visited the other 99 cent shop down the street several times (on 43rd) and have enjoyed it. The reason I was hoping this place would be better is because the pizza simply looked better.
They also do happen to have pizza with toppings on them available unlike the other 99 cent shop which is a nice bonus. These of course cost a smidge more, but it's nice if you want something with pepperoni or mushrooms on it.
Really, the primary reason I wasn't impressed with this place is because I was expecting to walk in and out like I always do at the other place in like 30 seconds (after hours).
However, since it was about 7 PM, there were not a lot of customers filtering though, thus I had to wait about 5 minutes for my pizza to be warmed up cause there wasn't one fresh out of the oven. It was sadly still a little bit cold even after the 5 minutes in the oven. The pizza was also a heck of a lot greasier than expected. This is probably because they use better cheese etc, but it had soaked through the crust making the pizza almost a little mushy which I hate.
Either way, I'm gonna give this place another shot just to avoid the line during lunch time. We'll see how it goes! I will update! -

What can you expect for a 99 cents slice of pizza!? I walked by this place once around 2:30pm, peeking inside to see how good it looked. The establishment was a tiny walk-in with two doors, with a narrow countertop to order from. The place was bright lit and looked pretty sanitary, as well as 2-3 people ordering, so I decided to give it a shot.
Two slices of pizza for $2.16 (with tax). As one guy put it on the paper plates and white-paper bagged it with some napkins, the other guy operated the cash register. I was in and out in 30 seconds. You can't let pizza get cold, so as soon as I left the place, I took a slice out and took a bite. The crust was slightly thinner than the norm, not doughy, but more of a crispy texture. It made folding the pizza in half an easy task, not having to worry that the tip of the pizza would flop over and cheese/tomato falling off. Definitely a plus when since there's no place to eat inside and is more of a to-go establishment, eat while you walk. The tomato sauce and cheese were not too shabby, making for a decent slice of pizza overall.

I just noticed this spot this week so I decided to give it a try. The store is very small so don't go with intentions to dine-in because you will be in for a surprise to find no seating.
I'd be curious to see how long they stay in business considering they are selling pizza for a dollar and they had four guys behind the small counter working when I stopped in. I can't imagine how they make money with overhead like that.
But this review is all about the pizza right? The pizza I thought was somewhat bland but not completely terrible. For a dollar it's hard to expect anything other than the most basic pizza possible. I also can't imagine what planet the reviewers live on that complain about tax. Uncle Sam needs his slice of the pie too.
It's not a $3 slice of pizza so sure it lacks in quality but for the price I definitely will stop in again. -

Okay this place definitely defines a hole in the wall joint. Not sure how long will the 99 cents will go on, but for a quick cheap eat. Try out this pizza place. I haven't seen this price in years really.. and pizzas are hot and filling, there might be a slight doughy taste to it.
The pizzas served are generally straight from the oven, and you bet I was really surprised when I saw this place and realized how non-NYC priced cost this was. My mom kept asking if this place just opened up, but thinking about the store name, and the card, would this price be the standard?
$15 is minimum for Free delivery, and the place is opened at the moment seven days a week from 10AM to Midnight. -

I popped in on a Saturday night, and there was no more regular 99 cent pizza! I was about to switch gears to walk over a couple doors down for the other 99 cent pizza place, but the guy quickly told me to choose a slice on the forlorn metal pan and that he'll give it to me for a $1. YES. Mushroom or white? Mushroom. Obviously. He even reheated the slice a bit, which was a kind gesture (didn't expect it from a $1 joint), albeit totally ineffective (at least the plate was warm?). Sauce was sweet and screamed HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, cheese was sprinkled sparingly, the mushrooms looked like they came out of a can, dough/crust satisfied my palatable standards, but what I liked about the slice was the generous sprinkle of basil. Such small gestures go a long way, like warmed paper plates.

This pizza is amazing for a quick slide for lunch, or after 10 beers.

It's pizza for $0.99 (well, $1.07 with Tax). How can you complain. You're not looking for something wonderful here. They always have pizza ready, the guys are friendly enough. All in all, a wonderfully discount experience in an expensive. We're not talking Lombardi's, Grimaldi's, or DiFara's here, but it's still better than you from the chain places and dirt cheep to boot.

Great little place to stop for a slice. Because of the amount of people going through the pizza is always hot and fresh, the crust is well cooked and there's a good cheese to sauce ratio. I got the deal with 2 slices of cheese and a can of soda for $2.75 after tax. For that price, it's well worth it. I've been to other places where they charge double or triple the price for something of inferior quality.
