It's not going to get any better than this.
It's all about the beer selection and 99 Bottles couldn't cram any more into its space without expanding. Large open-stock selection? Yep. Huge collection of hard-to-find beers? Yes indeed. Prices? Relatively high, but such is the life of a craft beer enthusiast. There was so much good stuff here that I bought and designed a carrier that I could check at the airport and fly back home with me. Take that, limited distribution channels! -

By far the best selection of beer I've ever seen. The number one place I go to find new and rare beers. I usually need to take my time browsing with such a large selection (over 1,000 different beers) and the employees are good about not getting impatient with people wandering around their store. They keep pretty quiet altogether, but are more than willing to help you out if you need suggestions or information about something.
I highly suggest subscribing to their Facebook page since they frequently give updates as to new brews in stock (with pictures and everything!), weekly tastings, growler fills (they have their own tap) and general beer news.
The one thing that doesn't exactly tickle my fancy is their organization. In the refrigerated section, the north half of the wall is for domestic beer and the south half is for imports, which is fine with me. Their information labels, however, are too small to read with ease (especially ones on the bottom shelf) and it would be easier to navigate if beers from different states/countries were grouped together, for example. -

I took the hubby with me to 99 Bottles for a fun Saturday date. He's a long-time beer drinker and mentioned he had never seen as many varieties of alcohol in one store. They have a cool refill system where you can fill a Growler jug and get beer significantly cheaper than at a bar plus tastings on Wednesday from 4-8pm. You get two tastings for $1.00. Definitely need to visit for that event. My organic fetish loves their selection of organic beer and ale plus they have an entire shelf dedicated to gluten-free beer. Though the store says 99 Bottles, I'm sure there is way over 1,000 bottles of libations! Good shopping.

I have been to 99 Bottles many times to grab hard-to-find brews. I have finally had enough though. Their employees need SERIOUS training in customer service. Every single time I have been there I have been amazed at their lack of service. No smiles, no greetings, leave you standing at the counter for five minutes while they straighten bottles, and a couple of the guys are out and out rude! Today a young lady was working there and I asked if she could check to see if they had any more of a certain beer in the back or somewhere. She actually ROLLED HER EYES, sighed and said "maybe you can come back later?" Un-freaking-believable! Sorry owners, your rude staff has cost you at least one customer - me!

I didn't quite know what I wanted when I went in but the staff was very helpful in finding some new beers that I really enjoyed. I will definitely stop by here again for more beer.

This place is fantastic!! I'm such a beer snob that this place is practically heaven for me. They have TONS of different kinds of beer, a lot of which are fairly difficult to find. They won't be at your average grocery store or liquor shop.
I do advise that you try to get in there before or after the people with the jugs. Waiting for them to fill is tedious and I think it was about 10 minutes before we could pay for the one item we picked up that day. On the flipside, the staff was relatively courteous about the wait, but there was the attitude of "they came first. you get to wait."
It's not a restaurant. I came in for the beer, not impeccable service. -

This is a great beer store in a great strip mall.
Just about everything in a craft brew the Washing State Liquor Control Board decides we are worthy of buying. Basically the same selection you will find a bottleworks in West Seattle. But the parking is better and you can buy ammo next door at 99 Bottles. -

You gotta love this kind of selection! They have it all and it's cold and ready to drink or bring to a party. They have a very knowledgable staff and even have tastings on certain evenings! BEST BEER STORE!!!

This place is pretty awesome. They have a giant selection of beer and do a good job updating their facebook with new items coming in (which is convenient so you don't always have to stop by).
They have a decent numbers of beers refrigerated and out on shelves. They have their own little beer club where you can get stamps for each beer you buy until you get to 99.
The people working here are pretty knowledgeable. They have tastings sometimes and offer some good beer related merchandise. I feel pretty lucky to work near here and be able to stop by frequently and am always impressed with their selection.Listed in: So you like to drink?

This is truly Federal Way's saving grace.
If I could take a year off of work and just live in this store drinking a different beer each day, I don't think I'd be able to drink everything that they have. Seriously. It is ridiculous. And I'd probably die from cirrhosis.
The owners are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about beer. They do a pretty good job and letting folks know what is coming in and what is sold out.
Just because you live outside the city doesn't mean you should be limited to drink Coors Light, and for that we have to thank 99 bottles.Listed in: Beer? Go here.

If you like beer, you'll love 99 Bottles. The variety is almost overwhelming but that's where their customer service comes in, friendly and knowledgeable. If you like hard cider, they have a BIG selection of those too. They've got growlers at a great price and a ton of awesome pint glasses, snifters and whatnot. You can follow their facebook page for the latest offerings on growler fills. NOM

Went here yesterday to purchase some 22oz IPA's for my boyfriend as part of his Valentines Day present. The staff seems awesome, greeted us as we walked through the door, asked if they could help. I ended up needing help finding some IPA's that my boyfriend hasn't tried (he's had a lot of them), and the guy that was working was so helpful to point all of them out. I have a feeling I might be stopping by at least once a week to try new things.
Love it, cannot wait to go back! -

9/23: Gave them another chance and realized everyone has a bad day once in a while, the same "beer consultant" was very helpful, knowledgeable, gave me a great recommendation. They definitely deserve the original 4 stars.

I came in here for a barleywine tasting and it was awesome. Instead of drinking the usual Corona, now I want to try many different types of beer. Of the different barleywines I tried, John Barleycorn and Doggie Claws were my favorite. The guy who was hosting the barleywine tasting was very knowledgeable about his beer and was very patient when a novice like myself asked stupid questions. Though I still am more into the lighter beers, I am looking forward to trying different types.
Have you ever heard of Internal Human Combustion? If you ever find yourself down here in the south end, you gotta check this place out or else it will happen to you.

When I told my friend that I worked in Federal Way, he asked me, "why don't you just say Mexico?" tru dat homie tru dat. well, perhaps vincent fox is up to something because 99 bottles is in federal way, and trust me, it is bound to take over america. this place is fantastic. It was here that I found my beloved Abita (the beer from New Orleans that I can't find ANYWHERE else) and Chimez for only 15 bucks! WTF! It's liek 10 bucks a glass at tap house... and that was for a freaking tasting. Go here. buy good beer so you can have that good buzz... you know where you're laughing and having un. Not the bad buzz.. you know where you start swinging fists. Your gf/bf will thank me.
oh and also, this is a great place to go to buy birthday gifts. speaking of which, mine is right around the corner. **hint hint**
oh and also also, you can keep your punch cards there and once your card is full, you get free beer. and trust me, those punch cards fill up fast especially if a bottle only costs 1.75... (which is a great deal considering I would have gladly paid 5 bucks for my beloved abita) -

What a fantastic selection...but don't come here looking for Yeungling, because their distributor won't ship this way. Aside from that, we were hankering for some refreshing pear cider. Wow, they even had a decent amount of cider from which to choose. Service was great. We'll be back!

If you love beer.... I mean beer that you drink because you love the different flavors hitting your palate... Then this is the store for you. They have 12 refridgerators of micro domestic and imported brews. Plus a cooler of hard ciders and a nice dry section. Be aware that for the American beers, Sam Adams is the biggest brew they carry, and the imports include well-known but also some you will see for the first time. Make your own variety 6 packs, as all beers are priced individually. The prices range but it is no more expensive than the supermarket. The staff has knowledge and eager to help. Finally wine shop style place for beer. Slainte!

Federal Way, WA
For years, I had wandered through the wilderness as an aspiring beer snob in Federal Way, afraid to show my face or live my life the way it cried out to be lived.
Albertson's would stock case upon case of Bud and PBR, and taunt me with an occasional sixer of Sierra Nevada that was always stocked beyond my reach. Beer-bellied louts would laugh at me while carting away the fridgepack of Busch they hoped would last them through the evening.
Wine snobs would scorn me as a wannabe elitist, and unwrap the sweaters from their necks just long enough to throttle me with them. I would try to cry out, "You know nothing...beer pairs better with a wider assortment of foods, whereas even fine wine dominates the pallette..." but all that came out was a torrent of drool and phlegm. Thank goodness for quick EMT response times.
I was unloved...abused...a stranger in a strange land. And then I discovered 99 Bottles.
Fraoch Ale? An assortment of Stone Brewery and Rogue Offerings? Glassware? T-SHIRTS? More Belgian ale than I could shake a monk at? A friendly and informative staff from whom I could learn and increase my own beer snobbery?
My eyes welled with tears as I filled one custom case with another. I kept pinching myself, thinking the pain would jerk me awake. It didn't. I just kept shopping.
*sigh* Beer lovers, this place is home. Come and be free. -

So, I finally went down to Federal Way for my first visit to 99 Bottles. I gotta say, that is a nice beer store! The staff were friendly, the store was super clean/nice and their selection was vast. I skipped the Vday chocolate and beer tasting and just shopped, shopped, shopped.
Their 12oz bottles are displayed as singles and prices for individual bottles or six packs are displayed. Their prices are fairly good.
I will definitely be back! -

The best beer store in the area.
Maybe if you live up in Seattle, then you can find better places. But if you live further south, then this is the go-to place for all kinds of micro and imported beers.
Just be familiar with the selection at grocery stores around town because, yes, certain things can be found cheaper elsewhere. But there are many rare items that you probably won't find at other retailers around Federal Way or Tacoma. And those things are the reason why you should come here.
I especially like the variety of Belgian ales that are available at 99 bottles. -

I'm a fan of hard cider (and not the cheap crap they sell in the grocery stores). 99 Bottles has an entire section dedicated to hard ciders of the world. I'm a sucker for the super sized Strongbow cans. The only other place I've found it is on tap in The Ave. They also have the largest assortment I've ever seen of 'fruit beer'. There are more styles of Framboise than I've had the chance to taste.
As far as the rest, it is truly a beer lovers paradise. Imports from across the globe line the walls. I dare someone to drink around the world in this place. ;) -

I want to like this place much more then I do.
They have an amazing selection of delicious and hard to find beers and ciders. But, their customer service is terrible! I have not met a single employee there with a good attitude and if I ask for a suggestion I feel like I am seriously intruding. Most recently, when I asked if they had any of a specific pumpkin beer left I was treated like an idiot for not knowing that it is a limited run and it sells out in 48 hours. Sorry.
It kinda reminds of the soup Nazi. Terrible customer service, but follow directions and keep your mouth shut because the soup, I mean the beer, is spectacular. -

Owners are awesome and the selection is great! I went to one of the beer tastings and it was a great value and I learned a lot.
If you're looking for something specific and they don't have it - ask! They may be able to order it for you. Tiffany is great at making suggestions and you can mix your own six pack.
Beers from Kenya to Russia and back again... Awesome. -

Came here once to pick up some consecration on the way to Tacoma to have dinner with the step sister. A very wide selection for sure but if I recall correctly more European focused then most Seattle shops which is cool if that if your thing (not mine).
Store was clean and the staff was friendly. Parking was kind of a pain. If it wasn't so far away I'd go more often. -

So much hype, its taken me awhile to get around to reviewing 99 bottles. I've heard and read about this place and was eager to get there. I've spend time on their website just drooling...
I get excited about beer. This place, did not excite me. Clean, organized well enough and yes, this is a good selection.
I can get the same beers elsewhere though and in places where the staff feels as excited about the beer as I do and as dedicated as I am in not just drinking it, but in sharing the good experiences. I dunno, maybe something as simple as like little staff picks cards with little personal descriptions would do it.
The service was meh at best. I got the impression the guy working was both 1) not thrilled to be there or at least not thrilled about sharing the beer experience and 2) the manager/owner. ...ouch...
At this point, I can get these beers elsewhere and closer to where I live, so that is where I will get them. I hope someday I have a good reason to try 99 Bottles again and I hope that it's a better experience. I had such high hopes, but it.... well, wasn't special- thats for sure! -

This is place is in Federal Way, a city I've never heard of before prior visiting this place. I got lost a little bit while trying to find the store, but after some U-turnings and last minutes lane-changing, I've found it!
The store is actually located in a shopping plaza, and the store size was smaller than I've anticipated. They had a fairly impressive selections, but a few seasonals were out. Inside is very clean and well-organized. Found a few gems that I didn't see in Full Throttle Shop in Seattle. Service was informative and friendly, the price wasn't outrageous. -

I live in Federal Way (unfortunately).
99 Bottles is the best business here. They have over 700 beers in freakin' stock man!
They have a great website. You can download an excel file of all their beers along with tasting notes!
It looks pretty average being in a mass produced strip mall and all, but hell this place is a serious resource for beer lovers in the Seattle area. -

The best part about this place is the management. I spent some time with friends in Minnesota and came to know a Wisconsin micro brew called Leinenkugels. They told me at first they could only get the wheat but now they can get a few different kinds.
They keep a lot of beers on hand and have probly hundreds to choose from. They also have days where they do tastings and have a case full of really killer ciders too. -

Made the trip from Seattle to stock up. They have an awesome selection. The store was clean, bright, and well stocked. Great prices compared to stores closer to Seattle. Lots of local brews. Worth the drive.
Would be 5 stars, if not for the guy running the place today. He seemed irritated by having to help some of the non- ''beer snob'' customers. -

This is the best beer store in South Seattle. I have been shopping for the best of the best beers from around the world for over a year. 99 Bottles is worth the drive if you don't live in the area. There are sooo many good uniques beers to choose from. New inventory comes in almost daily. The staff are wonderful people and my friends. Love you guys. Keep up the good work. Show 99 Bottles some love and drop by for the best bottled beer from around the world.

Unbeatable selection of beer, cider, and mead. Hands down the best in Puget Sound. Depending on who helps you, the service can be lukewarm to first-rate, but I am never disappointed. Aesthetically, it's a very clean and classic store to be in.

Remember that great beer you had back in you know where with you know who at the, well, yeah there? Probably not 'cause that beer was followed by eight more and before the night was done the answers to all of life's little questions were floating in a lightly hopped stew. That's okay 'cause all you have to do is get the owner of 99 Bottles somewhere in the ballpark and he'll figure out what that special beer was and have a chilled bottle (or ten) standing at attention for you. Relive the memory!

You have no excuse anymore South-enders!Go buy some great craft beer instead of what all the ads are telling you to drink. It's about time someone gave Bottleworks a little competition. Not quite the selection of cellared stuff that BW will have from time to time, but still an awesome collection of beers. If it's new and available, they will have it. Tastings are awesome and cheap. Make sure to get a punch card to get some free stuff once you have bought 99 bottles of whatever.
