Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt [Edit]
Neighborhood: AlhambraThis place is rad. I have been coming here all of my short life. Lately I have been digging their brownie sundae. They also have some great frozen drinks, and old fashion candies.

I've been a Fosselman's girl ever since I can remembered. My grandpa and I used to talk there every Friday after school. Gosh, I miss those special days....Happiest days of my life! But hey, awesome ice cream... THE BEST ice cream in the world to me. I have shifted into FroYo now, but hey, once in awhile, I would sneak into Fosselman for a big Banana Split, with everything on it!! My gosh... it's pure heaven!! Life is good when I am there. haha.. Amen!
This place has my fave ice cream in the world! I *love* their Dutch chocolate ice cream and dream of it often. I can't eat it that much because it's premium ice cream (or maybe even extra premium), which sounds nice, but really just means it's fatty as hell. But sooo good. Mmm, writing about it *almost* makes me want some. My SD friend dreams of their Dutch chocolate ice cream too, and it makes her sad that there's only one Fosselman's. They're open 'til 10 pm or so (at least in the summertime), so I can get my ice cream fix even late at night. Sometimes I have it for meals! Luckily I don't live too close, or else I'd be fat. And since I love chocolate, I pretty much never get any other flavor, but I have sampled several others, and they were pretty good (but not as rich and tasty as my fave).
Only downside is their parking lot, which is kind of small and weirdly designed. Occasionally if I have to park on the very inside, I feel like I'm going to crash into a pole when I back out of the space. I don't know how the very last car is supposed to get back out, so I'm afraid of that space. But you can always park on the street in the 24-minute (?) zone, as long as you don't eat your ice cream too slow.

Pros:
Excellent Fresh Ice Cream
Nice Selection of Flavors (Taro!)
Malts and Shakes
Decent Price for the Quality
Stays True to it's Origins (since 1928)
Cons:
The attentendant I dealt with seemed a bit stuck up (-1 star)
Hands down, best ice cream in LA. Their peach, burgundy cherry, lemon, and green tea are my faves. Because they have some unique flavors, it's easy to bypass the traditionals like chocolate and strawberry but those are good too. It's not a hip place just old fashioned ice cream made the way it should be, creamy and smooth and full of flavor. We always have a 1/2 gallon in our freezer.
The fact that I've already referenced this place in other reviews without giving it its own is shameful. Anyway, it seems like most of us are pretty into Fosselman's. I like the variety in flavors, I've tried several and all have been tasty. There are "seasonal flavors" during holidays, my favorite being Irish Creme when St. Patty's is around. The cookies used for the ice cream sandwiches are yum and keep the ice cream together well. And who can hate on the old school charm? Haters, I guess.
It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that middle of nowhere is also where I grew up, so pffft. I can remember my first Fosselman's visit as a pre-schooler on a field trip. I remember being really pissed that we were only given chocolate or vanilla as our flavor options when I really wanted strawberry.
The only negative remark I can make is I hate that it is a cash-only establishment, but that's another rant for another time.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ice cream at Fosselman's
Its cash only so come prepared. I love the mango ice cream and the white chocolate macadamia nut ice cream the best. Its creamy, smooth, silky and just DELICIOUS!!!

One thing growing up with this a stones throw away. It made dessert something to welcome. Especially after going to the local theaters (How many god damn theaters have there been now in the same mile radius?) it was always a nice little stop for a date or just when you want to pig out on Ice cream.
I'm a sucker for Root beer floats. Maybe it was the start to my horrible drinking affliction that prevents me from being a productive member of society. But you get Root and Beer and you mix it in to a large Vanilla Fosselman's glass and you have yourself some addiction to kick.
The price. Well, what can you expect? It's not the 60's and owning and operating a ma' and pa' establishment like this will easily cost you. So you pay the price of admission knowingly when you go into this sort of place.
Especially when the summer months are here in SoCal, Fosselman's is the sort of place you need to keep on the back of your mind because you will need it when the mercury rises.
I just don't get it and I guess I never will. Perhaps I'm spoiled by all my years in the Bay Area eating Fenton's. The toasted almond ice cream at Fosselman's is simply raw almonds (not a toasted one in the bunch) mixed into mediocre vanilla ice cream - WTF???!!
Anyway, I guess I'm the only one who doesn't get the hype.
I feel so bad that I made my parents drive to meet me here. Half way into their tiny, bland scoops of ice cream, they sheepishly asked if I really thought this was better than Baskin Robbins. I couldn't say yes - they seem the same to me. Average taste and overpriced. I got a sundae, and I was truly excited to taste what I thought would be something extra-special - I even added fudge to make my caramel sundae even more tasty. It was tiny, and it was nothing special. The place was packed (terrible parking situation!)l, so clearly others disagree with me. Check it out, but beware that it's not that great. I'd stay on the 10 East and exit Mountain to head to Handel's Ice Cream. THAT is worth the drive, and it's way better ice cream for your dollar.
This place is really good.
Fosselman's? YES PLEASE!
The best flavors: blueberry, mango, coconut pineapple, and something called "chocolate covered strawberries".

Well I have been having a craving for the ultimate sundae decadence and I decided last night to go all out and indulge since it actually happens so seldom. My place of choice before this place has always been Two-E's on Huntington but I didn't wanna sit and tip ect.... This place had all these great reviews and history I had to try it. The ice cream definitely lived up to the expectation but I might have over shot...kinda seemed a little too sweet (dark chocolate, espresso coffee with hot fudge and caramel on a brownie) I know I know that would be very sweet. Next time I will likely do just a cone or some fruity type to balance and really explore, red bean, green tea, taro...something like that but alas it was really yummy. Check it out.

If you're ever in the area, you've GOT to try this place. Right when you step foot in the store, you know the ice cream must be BOMB (yes I am still using BOMB) just by the smell.
Premium ice cream that's not too overwhelming (like Coldstone's) and an affordable price. I know people willing to drive a good distance to pick up a few gallons from Fosselman's, so thats gotta tell you something right?
I'd give them one more star if I could, just for their old school charm.

Good Ice cream, one of the last of the real ice cream parlors. But noisy and not comfortable to sit, good to get your ice cream and leave. Expensive, for a little less quality go to McDonalds
The staff is super friendly. Very efficient. They normally ask you to pay first if you have big orders that way you can just go once you have all the bags. To me, that's smart. Save time and the hassle of getting money in your wallet while the other hand is holding the ice cream.
I tried many flavors although not everything. The only thing I dislike from this place so far is the green tea ice cream. I always like Fubuki the best. Not the one that is sold in asian market, but the one that Panda Inn restaurant carry. It's good.
All in all it's good. Inexpensive and good.
Ps,
Parking could be an issue. It's very limited. Small place small parking lot.
I love it
creamy and smooth
I had Taro and Mint & Chip
Bf had Pistachio and Dutch Chocolate (my favorite).
Parking isn't easy tho.
Forget ColdStones and Baskin Robins! A cute little mom and pop store. Ice cream is all home made and taste so wonderfully sweet. MMmmmmm! They have flavors that cater to the Asian palette such as Taro and Lychee.
Slowly churned sweet ice cream, home made at it's absolute best. I went to grade school with these guys. They are dedicated to Ice Cream. This is their craft, their skill, their business, their life. They can never, ever serve bad ice cream. Everything is made in the store. All the flavors are made from the heart. And they sell Salt Water Taffy and Gummy Colas and Gummy Bears.
My advice is to try the Ice Cream Sunday.
ooh... hehe.. wooo!!! gimme me gimme me gimme me
soft, creamy, silky ... oh la la....
Pricy..but no one ever said drugs are cheap..because the root beer floats here..OH MAN.. it's like a freaken drug.

I've been here. I've tried it. I like it. I bring folks who aren't from Los Angeles and they like it. What's not to like? Taro is my favorite. I wish I could explain what makes it SO good but I would never be able to do it justice. With so many reviews you can't go wrong with Fosselman's. A restaurant I worked at served it and people would frequently ask where we got it from.
Buy a half gallon and take it home. You won't be disappointed.

At Mike L's suggestion, we stopped by Fosselman's to try some of this ice cream. I'd never heard of Fosselman's and Mike said that they're highly bookmarked on yelp so with that in mind, I just HAD to try it.
Lil guy got espresso coffee (go figure), I got a 2 scoop to share with hubby, my choice of mint & chip and his choice of dark chocolate.
The first bite confirmed that this was just superb ice cream, something we could never get in Irvine. We hadn't had any ice cream like this in a very very long time. This was real ice cream, the kind made with real cream and real ingredients. It didn't leave a nasty after taste and it didn't make me feel sick. I actually finished the entire scoop which is something of a rarity in my case. I always end up throwing out half of what I buy.
So thanks Mike for recommending this place. I'm glad it's so far away, otherwise, I'll be at the gym 3x a day to try and work it off.

I don't remember finishing an order of ice cream since we left the Bay Area years ago. My favorite ice cream place used to be Real Ice Cream
(http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and since then, I've not found anything close to that quality.
When we came to Fosselman's at Mike L's suggestion (thanks Mike by the way), I was skeptical as well, but since my wife wanted to try it, I decided to just get something to share with her.
Of course, after one bite, the rest is history. I finished my entire scoop of dark chocolate and even got some burgundy cherry to taste later on. Everything was excellent. Too bad it's so far away. I don't understand why ice cream places in Irvine can't produce ice cream this good. Everything around is crap.

Ice Cream Excellence! A+++!
How do I explain the genius that is Fosselman's? Each flavor exemplifies the best translation of that particular flavor in ice cream form. The perfect balance of sweetness (but not too sweet!), texture (always creamy but different levels of creaminess), and each scoop couldn't be prettier. The dulce de leche ice cream is over the top creamy, rich, and sweet, just like the dessert. The peppermint stick is light and milky with bits of crunchy bark inside. The pink champagne sorbet is icy and bubbly and has a lovely pink color.
My fam has been going here for many years and we always pick up a tub for our big get togethers. When Asian mothers with sensitive sweet tooths love Fosselman's Ice Cream, you know you've got a dessert WINNER.

This is THE best ice cream it's so yummy. I got the coffee. I like the taste. They gave me TOO much ice cream so I couldn't finish it, but it was delicious.
The place stinked. Even though the ice cream was awesome the place stinked. I said to mommy it stinked so bad. I can't give it 5 stars if it stinked!!!

I love this place, inexpensive but FANTASTIC ice cream in delicious waffle cones. I have dreams of this place. I wish there was one near my house. Homemade ice cream, soda fountain feel, but beware for all those like me who rarely ever carry cash with them this place is CASH ONLY so bring enough, they don't get credit cards. And if you're wondering if I would REALLY use a credit card to purchase a few dollars worth of ice cream, the answer is YES and without shame because thats how I roll...
Fosselman's is the only place I would ever buy an ice cream cake from. Simply put, it's magic in my mouth. Homemade ice cream with home made cake, frosting that's light and amazing. They take orders over the phone as long as you give 24 hour advance notice because their cake decorator only has specific hours in the store. Note: If you have a difficult name or saying you want on the cake, going in person to order is recommended as sometimes words gets transposed over the phone. They also have a good selection of Jelly Belly jelly beans to choose from. Yeah for Fosselman's and ice cream cake!

Our family really liked the 1/2 gallon of ice cream we picked up at Fosselman's recently. The place has plenty of flavors to choose from as well as ample seating if you plan to enjoy some scoops on-site. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I have had better homemade ice cream, but I'd stop by Fosselman's again next time we are visiting the Pasadena area. Thank you, Yelpers, for recommending this place - you made it easy for some out-of-towners to quickly find homemade ice cream just a few minutes away.

This place let me build the best Sundae known to man:
Taro with hot apples.
WTF is wrong with that? Nothing.
WTF is wrong with a business that has family roots back to the early days of Los Angeles? Nothing.
WTF is wrong with being in Alhambra? Nothing.
WTF is wrong with being a virtual ER for dudes that eat too much hot sauce @ Boling Crab? Nothing.
There is nothing wrong with this place. Its all good.
Ice cream?! Dood this place has awesome ice cream! Not just 30 different flavors, but a whole lot more! And they make it! You can't get it anywhere else but there!
When you go inside you'll notice that the place kinda smells...well it's always been like that, so just deal with it.
Good ice cream!
This place is by far my favorite ice cream. The Taro/ Ube, Chocolate Dipped Strawberry, green tea, lechee, mango, and mint chocolate chip flavors are way way good.
Watch out for the their ice cream cakes... not so good.

This place is perfection in ice cream.
Ube, Taro, Green Tea, cinnamon, and mocha flavors are amazing. If you're it, get your lite-ice on and try the boysenberry ice.
I'm especially into the clown face cones.
there are 136 reviews for this place. the only other thing i can add that is useful is that it sells *licorice* ice cream during october (see my posted pic!). did u know i've been waiting since 4th grade for licorice ice cream???!!!!!!! i bought an entire half gallon. it makes ur mouth black. very unattractive for a 31yr old woman. next december i've got my eye on the peppermint bark flavor.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the taro ice cream. I've only tried two flavors because I crave the taro ice cream. I stop by everytime I work in our Arcadia office, which is starting to become my only reason for coming to work in that office.

Here's another place my "pop's" turned me on to since he worked nearby at the time. We stopped in here the other day after eating chinese nearby. This was the last stop and it was great. If you are into being "seen" you will be dissapointed as this is just a plain old mom and pop old fashioned ice cream parlor. But if you are there for ice cream you have to make this a must stop when in the area. I had the chocolate rasberry mousse. It was great! I highly recommend this place to ice cream lovers. You will not be dissapointed!

It's been a while since I came back to Fosselman's. Ice cream here is fresh and creamy.
This time around, I tried their toasted almond ice cream - it was good. Not to sweet and right amount of toasted almonds.
I still can't believe Luis R. finished his three scoop sundae before I was half way done with my single scoop cone. And the thing is Luis R. ate like two trays of char-su-boa by himself at dim sum just moments before Fosselman's. Tae K. - I refuse to partake in any ice cream eating contest if Luis R. is participating.
I've only been there once and I want to go back there. The ice cream is soooo good. I want to try some of the flavors they have there like lychee and taro.

Do you know what's the sign of quality ice cream? The cream melts in your mouth and isn't foamy. Fosselman's ice cream is never foamy!
Screw the fudge and the caramel. If you want toppings, go to Fenton's in SF (BTW, Fenton's caramel is the BEST) but if you want ice cream in a gazillion flavors, come to this place.
I love how they have lychee, mango, lemon and the like, in addition to the BEST English toffee ice cream. They even have PUMPKIN ice cream, but it's only during the FALL.
Oh how I wish they would make a pumpkin pie ice cream!

I am not a fan of ice cream shops. Why spend $3 on a single scoop when you can get a half gallon at your nearest grocery store? However, Fosselman's is the only ice cream shop I will ever patronize. They MAKE THEIR OWN ICE CREAM and therefore feature over 40 different flavors. Also, I love supporting locally owned businesses. During warm months, you will find me here hording the strawberry cheesecake and coconut pineapple flavors while secretly eying their jelly belly collection.
