909 gave me a great first impression of downtown Burien. I have always heard that Burien is sketchy, but this downtown is actually quite cute. I met my friend here for breakfast and had a great experience. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, the service is pleasant, the prices are reasonable (easily less than $10/person), and it is so easy to find street parking.

The menu items sounded so tasty and creative. We eventually decided on the  smoked salmon panini (lox type salmon with spinach, red onions, and capers mascarpone in a freshly pressed ciabatta) and the caprese benedict (two pesto-smeared ciabatta halves with ooey gooey smoked mozzarella, two eggs, and tomato jam on top),and a small pot of jasmine green tea.

The food was delicious and served with two grapefruit wedges. I loved every morsel and only wanted more!  The smokiness of the salmon really came through and accompanied well by the other ingredients. There were a bit too many onions but easy enough to pick out. I loved the benedict. It is the best benedict I have ever had because I despise hollondaise sauce....it is evil. The tomato jam was a great way to use tomatoes as part of a classic caprese and the smoked mozzarella was heavenly.

My only complaint is that I was still hungry. A side of bacon or cup of fruit would have been a nice addition.

By the way, a small pot ($3) of tea was the perfect amount for us. We easily got 2 cups each out of it and the tea bag is so big that adding more water wound not have diluted the taste at all.

Our waiter was genuinely nice, down to earth, and laid back. He was also very attentive. If only all people who worked in customer service were as pleasant and poised...!

Fun, casual, different without being pretentious.

We had a "baby shower brunch" here a couple of weeks ago, since my friend isn't really the shower type.  (that just means opening presents while having breakfast).

The place was packed at 10am on a Saturday but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up- seems lots of people are there for the counter service.

The breakfast specials looked so good - frittatas and sausage and stratas, oh my!

I got the very last of that day's stratas - sausage, tomato & mozarella with asparagus.  Everything on our table looked delicious - but I was so sad to hear they were out of cinnamon rolls.  That would have been the perfect breakfast topper.

Cute neighborhood, tucked away in the Burien that nobody knows about.  Parking was tough, but worth it to park a few blocks away.

If I find myself down south again, I'd definitely eat here again!

Best breakfast around.  I ordered the basic 909 breakfast, eggs, bacon and toast and it was delicious!  The scrambled eggs were cooked just right, the bacon was thick and plentiful, the toast was toasted perfectly and was both crunchy and chewy.  The jam was fresh and tasty too.  The drip coffee was smoooooth , hot and oh so good(cafe umbra I think).
The atmosphere is cozy, homey and quaint all in one.  The service was friendly, knowledgable, fast and absolutely perfect.  5 stars for sure!!!!!!!!

We were visiting my brother in Des Moines and trying to figure out a place for dinner and he said we should try this.  We were absolutely blown away. We all shared the sausage appetizer with rosemary walnuts and it was excellent.   I had crab-stuffed crepes with a red pepper/tomato sauce, my wife also had crepes but hers were stuffed with chicken and artichoke hearts with a basil pesto cream sauce.  Both entrees were very good.  My brother ordered the pasta special which was fettuccine with sausage and lamb in a very light  but flavorful sauce and it was way beyond good.  This little place is definitely very near the top of the best restaurants I've tried.  The service was very attentive without being overbearing or intrusive.  We will be back in Seattle in November and have already made reservations to eat there.

Places like Elliot's are quite good but if you want truly superb and inventive food, go to 909.

    Ohhhhhh yessssss!

I have had this little spot bookmarked and I am glad I got the chance to come here this afternoon weekend!

Located off Old Burien 152nd Ave, this cafe is surrounded by other cute non-chained owned businesses. Inside you will find the coffee/wine bar centered with seating scattered around. In one nook, is a gas buring fireplace with comfy chairs nestled in its nook. Off to the right, is a LARGE outdoor seating area with both uncovered and covered areas.

Just like its decor, even the bathrooms are pleasant to visit!

Menus offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, coffee, wine and pastries.

For this visit my friend and I came here for lunch.  I selected the Seasonal Salad with red wine and oregano vineargarette dressing, roasted chicken, walnuts, red peppers, kalamata olives. The salad comes in both a side and meal size.  The meal size is plenty if you are looking to make a meal of it.

For dessert, we tried the chocolate mousse ganache - which is very rich and a good choice if you love chocolate hold the flour please =D

This was a fun place with good food.  The place is a laid back mix between a coffee shop and a sit-in dinner.  The food was good, the wait staff was great, and the atmosphere was A+.  I thought the concept of the restaurant was great.  Some people came to sit and drink coffee, some took their coffee to go,  some come grab a drink at the bar, and some come in for a full sit down service.  I came for early for breakfast.  I sat down had a macchiato and finished some work while I waited for a friend.  A half hour later and couple of spreadsheets later, I was ready to transition from work and coffee to breakfast with a friend.   I had the smoked salmon panini, which was wonderful.  The meal was light and not overly greasy.  Unlike most breakfast places, I did not feel overloaded after I ate.  This was a nice leisurely start to my morning. I will definitely come by again.

    Hello, yelpers!

I went here with my bf about a week ago and the staff is so friendly! :) The coffee was beautiful. I really didn't know what to expect for the taste, I just wanted a leaf in my cup :P but it was really bitter... My bf liked it. But I just added lots of sugar and it tasted okay then. Other than that, I'd recommend coming here if you're nearby. :)

Went this morning with a group of gals and my 8 month old.  Despite living a mere three blocks away, I had never been because I didn't assume they were child-friendly.  Boy, was I wrong.  Our charming waiter immediately brought over a high chair and hung around until he could see that it would work for us.

We were stopping off for coffee and a small bite before wedding dress shopping.  I got the romaine hearts half salad with lemon garlic dressing.  It was delightful.  Lemony with garlic present but not overwhelming; fresh romaine, parmesan and some grated lemon zest over top.  Loved it.

The coffee was lovely as was the wait staff.  The gentleman who waited on us was very granola-looking, but polite and friendly.  And, like, real people friendly.  Not "trying to be nice" friendly.

I'm looking forward to going back.  Intensely.  They've got a Kobe burger on the menu for a reasonable $12.00.  I've got my eye on it.

I went next door to 913 for a private party and the food was delicious! I had everything from beef sliders, potato wedges, marinated pork with corn avocado salad, shrimp, caprese salad, and grilled asparagus. Reminded me of dinners at the menderosa for Shizz.

Outside had awesome heating lamps that kept me nice and cozy in my summer garb and service was on par.

    Looking forward to trying 909!

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this yet. Started exploring restaurants in Burien earlier this year, and although there are lots of good places, this happens to be my favorite.

I've been there with friends, on dates, and took the parents there too. I've tried a lot of things from the menu, and been pretty pleased with all of them. Besides not being a particular fan of the bread they bring to the table or the potato chips they serve with the sandwiches, I've found the chicken crepes, the osso buco, a few of the sandwiches, and a few of the pastas all to be excellent. I tried a bite of their special ravioli of the day recently (butternut with bacon and some vague cause I forgot the description cream sauce ...sure how could that not be good?) and I think it might be the best pasta I've ever had, they have some talented cooking going on back there.

Service can be a bit casual, but it's friendly, and they don't mind if you linger. I do forget it's somewhat of a coffee shop too right? Reports from co-diners say they are pleased with the coffee drinks. I've only had the drip coffee and it's good. They have different house wines every time I've been in, and I've been really pleased with the few I've tried, as well as with their regular wine menu.

The kicker that gives this place my *favorite restaurant* award is their desserts. Brownie sundae is ...well let's just say they make a very very good one. My parents ordered a cobbler they didn't like as they said the blueberries weren't very juicy, but I have tried a few different things and liked them all. I NEVER find places that can hit every area like this. Bonus points that they have their menu and wine list online.

Did eat in the next door at their recently opened full bar restaurant 913, the "place next door"(limited table, much louder, good drinks) but didn't try the patio are in between the two buildings yet. It is the same menu. I guess that's enough flattering things to say about one place, so I'll wind this up.

Really, what's not to like?I had my third visit to 909 last night and have not been disappointed yet! the menu selections are always amazing! It is hard to narrow down your selection so be forewarned. I started with the  Seasonal Citrus Salad w candied hazelnuts, seasonal greens a shave of parmesan and a light citrus vinaigrette, it was the perfect choice! I have had the chicken crepes and the crab cakes- both so rich and full of flavor! I had been waiting to get bake and order the crab cakes again.  I was glad I did!  My husband went with his usual choice, a filet, and it was hands down one of the best he's had. he loves his Romaine hearts salad with chunky bleu cheese dressing. So many times at the end of a delicious meal the coffee is such a let down but not so at 909.  They brewed a fresh pot of decaf just for us and it was so rich and full bodied along side of the Meyers lemon cake which is cooked in a custard cup and upon serving is flipped over and the lemon custard oozes over the thin layer of sponge cake. It's finished w a dollop of whipped cream!!! I would go back just for that alone! Wendy, our server, was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. She made it a pleasurable dining experience with her "checking back just at the right time" service!
Oh, did I mention they have a lovely fireplace toward the back of the restaurant and on a chilly night it's warmth and coziness make for such great ambience Unfortunately, we left our credit card there last night and we live 45 minutes away.  Fortunately, we won't mind the drive at all knowing we'll get an opportunity to enjoy another great meal at 909!!

This place is great!  And worth it, whether you're popping in after soccer practice or you're just randomly in Burien and looking for a little nugget of goodness.  I like the 909.

    DECOR:
Check out the paintjob when you get here: light & bright up front, toning to cozy & warm in the back.  Out front: tables for those sunny days & big windows that allow great light to stream in.  In back: a nice fireplace & beautiful bar for sampling wines.  The decor mirrors the focus of the 909: coffee/morning goodness when appropriate, wine/cozy when you're looking for that.

    THE MENU:
I've never been disappointed in the quality of what I ordered. Great coffee, tasty pastries.  The hot breakfasts look fantastic, but as I'm always here when I'm short on time, I've never had a chance to indulge. I'm excited to know that if for some reason I'm ever in Burien during socially-acceptable-wine-drinking-hours (aka, EVENING) - I'll have a place to go.  The dinner menu looks great!  And the wine list is interesting!

    SERVICE:
The servers/staff are nice.  Really nice. They're real. They obviously care.  This is good.  It's also good to know that at the 909, things happen at a Burien-like pace.  Slow, that is...but.  Come on.  Do you really care?  This is not Starbucks.  This is not the drive-through.  Slow down a little bit and enjoy!  After all, when people are friendly and kind and you can tell that they're working hard - can you really get angry?  Do you want to be that fidgety-cranky-pants whose panties are all in a twist because you just can't live for another second without your friggin Americano?  No.  You need to calm it down, sister, and just enjoy yourself.  Love the 909, because they love you!

    OVERALL:
It's thrilling to know that a spot like this is making it happen in Burien!

You know that one piece of clothing you have that goes with everything? You can dress it up or dress it down, and you always feel good wearing it. That's what this place is like.  The atmosphere is warm and a little bit elegant, but comfortable and unpretentious. I'd be just as home sitting here sipping coffee and reading the paper as I would on a date night. To accommodate either scenario, there are coffee and pastries as well as beer, wine, and an incredibly delicious and reasonably priced lunch and dinner menu.

We sampled the day's special (ravioli with bleu cheese, shallots, and deeelicious wine sauce) as well as the pesto chicken crepe and both were so tasty that we were literally sopping up every last drop of sauce with our (second) order of yummy artisan bread. Not many Seattleites make it out to Burien without good reason - now you have that reason!

Given the choice, this is the coffee place I always go to.  Why?  They have lever-pull espresso.  They use Cafe Umbria coffee.  My quad, short, breve, mocha always comes out *Perfect*.  I haven't actually eaten here before, I just go for the coffee.  The staff is awesome, and have always treated me very well.  It's a nice little shop in "Olde Burien", and I can always stop at the Danish bakery down the street, or Lucky Donuts further down the street to complete my morning.

Update: My wife and I had dinner here the other night.  The Kobe Beef Burger was Great!  Better than Red Mill, Dicks, or XXX Root Beer in Issaquah.  My wife had the veal ravioli, and said it was really tasty.

The drink selection was a liitle small, but they carry bottles of Coca-Cola with sugar-cane rather than HFCS, and I was quite happy with that.

The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was awesome as always.  Again, I highly recommend this place.

I haven't been here in a grip, but seeing the name on Yelp helped me summon up the good memories that I've had in this place. They make a sumptuous cup of coffee, complete with some nifty designs in the foam. Their breakfast, while lacking some hearty meat options, is delicious. The frittata was delicious and filling. Their yogurt, granola and fruit bowl was approved even by my eight year old. The hash, though? That's were it's at, but admittedly, I'm an unabashed hash lover.

Also, they have huge, amazing chocolate chip cookies. Go there. It's a bit off the beaten path as far as coffee shops go, but it's worth it just so that you can sit there and take all of the wonderful smells in.

909 is an excellent dining experience for a small cost.

You can expect something between a bistro & fine dining. It's not stuffy but still has class. Can be very romantic on a date.

The food is fresh each day from scratch and the Chef's Frank & Chris are amazing. I could write a novel about the food here!

The wine is wonderful and priced right. Try a wine flight!
The coffee is Umbria and they make it right.
The service has always been beyond perfect and find myself leaving 909 satisfied and thinking that all restaurants should be like this.

Two things you must try, the Meatloaf is so good it shouldn't be called meatloaf. I call it Filet Mignon meatloaf. The wrap it in a piece of bacon and make their own BBQ sauce. Orgasmic!  The other dish is the chicken crepes in a creamy pesto. Un-fricking believable! I forgot the chicken & risotto, nummy. Did I mention the Burger with Gorgonzola and a port sauce....?

For desert the gelados are great and the Chocolate Turrine is to die for.
My favorite place in the WORLD to eat a meal. I always leave blissful!

The 909 is my favorite place to go in Burien when I'm there to visit family. While they can have the occasional miss, the food is delicious almost every time, and the coffee is really good, never burnt, and they are great at making those pretty designs in the foam.

    I recommend:
    1. The scrambled egg panini. The eggs are really fluffy. Their other breakfast items are also really good.
    2. Basil Pesto Pasta
    3. Chicken Crepes, the first thing I ever tried at the 909 and the reason I was happy to return
    4. The specials. This place always has great specials.

    I do not recommend:
    1. The Beef and Blue salad. This steak salad just doesn't do it for me. I don't like the combination of ingredients, and the steak is chewy/gristly.

In addition, I like this restaurant's ambiance. The wait-staff and baristas are friendly and natural, not too business-like, not too flaky, not too overbearing. They never make you feel rushed, even if the place is packed. I like the lighting, the layout, and the art on the walls. There is a little fireplace with two armchairs in back which is a nice place to sit, and they have outdoor seating in the summer.

Great little coffee/wine/dining place in the middle of Burien. It has a cozy section in the back with a fireplace but the front room is nice and bright for the occassional sunny days.
I had the beef salad and it was tasy. My husband had the grilled veggie salad with chicken and it looked like a great light lunch fare. The servers were very nice too. I might swing by one of the Saturday nights for some live music.

It was a really nice and busy place, with a very creative menu and great service with a laid-back atmosphere. I had the SW 152nd Scramble and it was delicious! The ambiance is very nice, sort of like a Starbucks turned wine bar, and we sampled the "raviolis"of of the day, which was exceptional. Three cheese stuff, with little tomatoes and sausage slices. OUTSTANDING.

But the whole experience was stiffled by our waiter, Elizabeth. She was unfriendly and indifferent. For the second time now that we've visited wine bar, we've been almost thrown the wine flight with no information. She told my fiancee "Here's your wine, its side to side top to bottom" and then scurried off. WTF? And by the way, there qas a total of four people in the whole establishment, so she wasn't pressed for time.

If you are going to be a "wine bar" a LITTLE presentation is warranted. Its amazing how a place with great potential and turn into a bad experience all because of a dullard waitstaff.

Love the setting, went there early mid-week morning. I had the daily frittata which was very good. A little thin in comparison to frittatas I've had elsewhere but still very good. My co-diner had the pesto Benedict also very delicious. The dishes we had were on the smaller side but I saw another patrons dish that looked very filling! Service wad good, coffee was good. 909 Coffee and Wine has become one of our favorite restaurants in all of Seattle.  We've been there many times, and never been disappointed.

Frank is an inventive chef, and the food emphasizes quality over quantity. The menu changes frequently based upon what's seasonal.  The wine list isn't the largest, but they have a good selection of reasonably priced wines that should suit the taste of most anyone.

The restaurant is small but has a nice ambiance and is located in a stretch of Olde Burien that is becoming a fun area.  They hold regular wine dinners and Saturday nights feature jazz.

We recently had dinner at Joule and my wife made a comment that 909 was better.  We highly recommend you try it if you're in the area.

I've never actually dined here, but it's on my flight path so I stop by once a week or so for "my drink" (12 oz double mocha).
Big props for serving Umbria coffee. Delish, never fails me. It takes a bit longer for "good" coffee vs. a generic Starbucks draw, so this is not for the impatient. The lunch menu looks tasty, I can't wait to go back and see what kind of magic they have going on in the kitchen.

In a town with one main street, and essentially, one nice block and a couple of short strip malls, this place represents this quiet town nicely.
Even if it was in a town with dozens of good restaurants, this place would still hold it's own.

The portions were perfect.  Not your typical American size where you finish your whole portion and feel stuffed.  And the food was fresh, well prepared, and presented well.  Nothing I had really stood out as too unique, but it was all good and well executed.

Actually, I do take it back - the chocolate chip cookie was huge.  I ended up nibbling on it from lunch and didn't finish it until late that night.  Very good.  If the rest of their baked goods are like that, bravo!

One of our absolute favorites for dinner. Fairly light bites with enough variety to put together different combinations each time we go (almost every week). Excellent wine menu; and there is always someone available to make a good recommendation. The flights are great values and make it fun to pair. Very friendly servers and the chef/owner is also very visible. We are always greeted warmly and are assured to have a positive experience.

We've now been more than once (and we think that more than once is usually necessary to give a place a fair shake) and the consensus is, "We Like It."

This is another move away from the dullness that was once Burien.  They are open in the morning with breakfast ideas (but not for us as we don't like moving away from the home office until later in the day) and the reports are that they have good pastries and quiches...  but don't depend on us for that.  We go in the evenings.

On Thursdays they do wine tastings with great prices on bottles and glasses for the wines they are pushing for the evening.  They are very eclectic with their choices and you have the opportunity to sample wines from Spain, Italy, France, etc.... without having your credit card get crumpled in the melee...

It is a limited menu.  I like that for these smaller places.  They know how to do a couple of items very, very well.  My lovely companion and wife ordered the crab crepes on our first try there.... and that has been her order every time.  I have been willing to try a few other things.  I thought their short ribs were outstanding, the rabbit loin on polenta was delish and their pork tenderloin was also sauced beautifully.  One should give their bruschetta a try... the last time they had a warm pear topping that was too delicious.

On Saturday evenings they start a live jazz group at 9:00.... and that is when the lights used to go out in Burien.  The lights now stay on a bit longer and the activities from the revitalized Olde Burien are helping more folks to think about staying closer to home.

I don't know why I didn't give it five stars.... It is truly a fun place... they just don't quite have all the ambience done yet....

Good food, attentive service, and nice yet casual decor.
I had a seasonal green salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and kalimata olives to start. It was very good, and I only had two minor gripes: the red wine vinaigrette seemed a little plain, and I think the walnuts should have been toasted a bit.
My chicken crepes with pesto cream sauce was excellent, though a little small for $10.50 in my opinion.
I will certainly return here in the future. 909 struck me as a good place to take like-minded people who don't care for generic, Olive Garden-style chain food when you don't want to make the trek all the way into Seattle.

Beer flights! For only $5.50! I love any place that has any kind of flights. Very cozy atmosphere with friendly service. Can't wait to come back and try some of the yummy looking food I saw coming out of the kitchen.

I was visiting friends last night ( November 11th, 2009 ) and we got to 909 at about 9:15 p.m.

My first impressions were that we were in a coffee shop. I figured we were going to have coffee and a bagel or something.

What I ended up having was simply one of the best hamburgers I have ever had in my life. Seriously. I'm a 53 year old guy who has had a lot of hamburgers in my day.

Service was good, food came our promptly, and the burger was rockin' perfect. Juicy, flavorful, done exactly as I requested it.

Price was low and that is that.

My friends both had the duck which they both seemed to enjoy.

    What's not to like?

Very nice environment, nice staff and delicious lunch. The coffee was also delicious and beautifully made, though because I'm not supposed to be drinking it anymore, i had only a few sips of mine. We had a generous sandwich and a very tasty warm salad.. Both very satisfying, If there were more choices on the menu for my limited diet, I would be a regular.

Very classy bistro/coffee bar with a well prepared menu.  Prices are reasonable and service was impeccable.  I had the chicken crepes which were very tasty and my husband had the burger and thoroughly enjoyed that too.  I would stop in more often if I lived closer to 909!

If you have ever asked yourself "where can I grab a cup of good coffee that is not a international chain and has a warm and inviting location?" then you found it at the 909. Cleverly named after their address on SW 152nd in Burien, the 909 has got to be one of my favorite places to meet the girlfriends for a glass of wine after work or a latte on the weekends. I have tried the salads and creeps... beware you might become addicted. to the crab crepe. I have heard they do live music nights and open a cute deck during the summer. This place is the adorable neighborhood wine & coffee bar you've been looking for. Bring a friend and book or relax, just be sure to check it out.
