When a certain hero found this supposed "hotel" in the middle of downtown Chicago, right in the center of everything for about $70/night..I honestly believed it was a complete lie. My immediate thought was..well there's only 4 reviews..if it was that great why hasn't anyone else stayed there and how is it that they can afford to rent out rooms for such a low price in such prime location?
Yup..we'll end up arriving and staying in a back alley in a box but, not before they rob us blind because now they have our credit card information.
Safe to say I should never judge a book by its' cover because I was COMPLETELY wrong and totally put to shame! Just as others mentioned, I don't know if I should even be tell others of this little gem or keep it all to myself! What a fantastic, low-rate place to stay.
900 Dewitt Place is actually not a hotel but, marketed as a short term apartment rental. The difference between this and a hotel is that because it's an apartment, there isn't maid service which, is fine because surprisingly, I'm perfectly capable of hanging up my own towels and making my own bed!
The apartment is also fully equipped with a kitchen (including all cookware and utensils), a couch, desk, TV etc--anything you would find in a fully furnished studio apartment. They also have a 24 hour gym and sauna in the lobby--nice! Yes, they are like any other business and they have hours between 9-5pm but, the owners/employees are more than accommodating. Just give them a call and make arrangements if you arrive later than they're open.
Oh and the biggest difference between this and another hotel in the same area? umm how about half the price and a larger space AND within close walking distance to everything in the heart of Chicago--this place is truly a steal. -

My wife and I stayed here in late March. They were very accommodating. When we arrived in Chicago from Ohio, we were able to drop off our bags around 11am despite a 3pm check-in. They held the bags while we had lunch and parked the car. Juan was very helpful, friendly and polite. The atmosphere of the "apartment" was perfect for us. We are the "no-frills" type and don't enjoy staying in hotels where employees are constantly doing the littlest things in hope for a tip. Staying here let us feel like we were Chicagoans for 4 days as it is a studio apartment with bed, couch, stocked kitchen and bathroom. There is a linen closet as well as a large closet, though there were only 4 hangers. Room had iron, ironing board and safe.
Pros: Very clean, apartment style, convenience store across the street, location, 2 minute walk to John Hancock on Michigan Ave, easy access to public transportation, wonderful upscale neighborhood, dog friendly neighborhood, nicely decorated rooms and lobby.
Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable and I found it to be quite small (though I am 6'4"), bed was also very noisy (even when you are just sleeping ;)), I found the room to have an off-putting smell though my wife didn't seem to think it was bad, I found the toilet area to be very cramped (once again i am tall and its an old hotel), this is minor but the remote for the tv wouldn't change the channel, it worked for the volume but you had to use the numbers to change channels.
I would definitely not hesitate to stay here again. We reserved far in advance and received a great price, but I would've paid more to stay here. We will be coming back to Chicago in the future and this will be where we attempt to stay though i would LOVE comfier beds :). It's a beautiful older hotel that has been tastefully updated. The neighborhood is extraordinary and the location is even better. We never felt unsafe walking around at night and everyone was very friendly. We didn't really speak to any of the staff other than Juan and he was a pleasure to meet. I highly recommend Dewitt Place if you are a self-service type (not that they are not accommodating, we just never really took advantage of it.) -

I recently stayed at the Dewitt during a 5-night trip to Chicago. The location is great - just 2 blocks from Michigan Avenue. The price was really reasonable, much cheaper than the other hotels in the surrounding blocks.
Since it's not really a hotel, there aren't amenities you would get at say, a Marriott, such as daily maid service, no complimentary breakfast, etc. The staff works 9-5. The bathrooms are bare bones - and I actually had to buy a hair dryer since they didn't provide one. Also, once you book you have to put 50% down as a deposit and the remainder is due when you check in. However, there was a full sized refrigerator, a microwave, a bed, a sofa and even a desk.
Overall, the amenities weren't really much of a deal breaker. I was still able to save a couple hundred dollars and used that savings to eat at a nice breakfast place. -

There are a few places that I question Yelping because they are sooo awesome that I feel greedy and want to keep them to myself. But then I have to be nice and think about the owners and how much better it would be for them to rock out running their businesses. What a world, what a world. Enter 900 DeWitt Place. Have friends or family coming from out of town? Live in the 'burbs and want to spend a night in Chicago for a play or just to get away? Care to enjoy the views of Lake Michigan without the tourist trap hotels and extra taxes and fees? This is the place. My husband, our dog and I stood here for New Years Eve and loved every single part of our stay. The quiet, vintage building is tucked away in Streeterville with hundreds of venues, restaurants, stores and parks nearby. Northwestern Memorial Hospital and RIC, as well as the MCA are all within walking distance. The studio is fully furnished, complete with dishes. Be prepared for a tiny Euro-style bathroom with tub. Juan, the Reservations Manager, was very professional and very helpful. I would highly recommend 900 N. DeWitt Place to anybody looking for a place to stay in Chicago at an affordable price.
