You need to make a reservation because it fills up fast, but it's really worth it for a low-key and great-tasting meal. Our waitress was very friendly, had great recommendations, and provided excellent service. It was a gorgeous evening in the city, and we brought the wine. If you are going to get sangria, bring cheap wine. The homemade sangria is delighful!

My husband and I split the Cuban bruschetta (I can't remember the name),the surf and turf and the avocado salad. The bruschetta had chorizo and was super tasty. The meat of the surf and turf was cooked perfectly and also had a perfect flavor.

My 4 star reason: I knocked it from 5 because the avocado salad wasn't as good as I would have liked. There was a good amount of avocado, but it was on iceberg lettuce with some tomato slices and red onion. It was just okay. The other reason is that we only received 3 shrimp on our surf and turf. I would have liked 4 to consider it fair for the price. It's 3 shrimp, a nice size of meat, and rice and beans (and we know those are cheap), so for $25, I would have liked more shrimp.

Still, loved the atmosphere, overall the food was great and and it's a sweet little BYOB. We will definitely go back and sample other plates and drink the sangria.

a few buddies and i came here for lunch on a hot thursday afternoon.  the weather was beautiful so it was awesome that we got to eat on their outside patio!

we started out with the empanadas - chorizo, beef and ropa vieja.  YUM.  i love empanadas so hard.  i ordered the lechon sandwich: roasted pork, romaine lettuce, tomato & sweet plantains.  not bad, a little dry and it needed some salt.  when i go cuban, usually always order the ropa vieja, but i decided to be different.  i might have to switch back to it.  it came with plantain chips, which were yummy.  one of my friends ordered the cubano and a Salida Del Sol, which looked tasty.  my other friend was going to order the cubano, too, but he asked the server if he should order different.  he recommended some sandwich (which i think was a chorizo burger or something???) with a bunch of toppings.  but my friend didn't think it was that great.  kinda disappointed.  furthermore, he kinda got raped with the upcharge fee for all those toppings.  WTF?  we should have been told that first.

i do like this place though.  their other food is pretty deece, like i said, the ropa vieja.  my friend actually went back a few days ago to get the cubano, so you know that's gotta be a weeener.

summertime in chi is the best.  lots of eyecandy.  this is a good place to go eat outside and relax.  my friend had an eye on some latinas.  the owner is really cute, too.  :)

I went here for dinner with all of my co-workers one night, not knowing anything about the restaurant.  I was very pleased with our experience and will be heading back on my own very soon.

We were a little worried when we made our reservation, as we were going to be a very large group, but they were happy to accommodate us.  Several of us arrived a little early, and we only had to wait a short while before we were seated.  BYOB is always nice, and our server didn't even blink when we produced multiple bags filled with wine bottles (the collection of empty bottles at the end of the night was impressive).  Once we had all arrived, bottles were opened, and we began perusing the menu.

Although service was a little on the slow side, especially as the restaurant started to fill up, our server was incredibly helpful and patient, especially considering that we had a lot of indecisive folks in our group.  She was able to help us navigate the menu, explained many of the different dishes, and made some fantastic recommendations.

The food was incredible, and everyone raved about their meals.  My Ropa Vieja was delicious and flavorful, and the portions were large enough to provide me with lunch the next day.  Of course, we all had to sample everyone's dishes, and I think the whole table agreed that the Puerca Rostizado (pig roast infused with guayaba, pan fried with grilled onions, and served with black beans, white rice, and maduros) was the real winner of the night, and it is what I will be ordering the next time I visit.

The crowd was an eclectic mix of folks with a few obvious regulars sprinkled in, and tables quickly filled up after we arrived.  The restaurant gets very loud very quickly, and, as I already noted, service was a little on the slow side, but the food more than makes up for these minor annoyances.

    The best BYOB in Chicago-

no where else is as inviting and comfortable as 90 Miles and the Cuban food is authentic! Owner Alberto treats this place like his own home and makes everyone feel welcome! The outdoor waiting area/patio is a gem and the art wrok throughout the whole place is fantastic! I've been there time and time again and will continue making my way from downtown to start the night 90 Miles Cafe... only a 10 minute walk from the heart of Wicker Park nightlife as well!!!

    To order:

Drinks: bring a bottle of rum and ask for a mojito mix pitcher! Best deal on earth and no corking fee... plus i love the mason jars filled with ice! They also do the same for wine and sangria.
Apps: Choripan and yuca frita- both huge, delicous portions
Lunch: Cuban Sandwich- legit and served w/ salty, crunchy banana chips
Dinner: Ropa Vieja- specialty of the house and the best i've had outside Miami
Dessert: expertly prepared Cuban coffee and pastelito guayaba... too good to be true.

The staff is very friendly, also! Just make sure you go to the Logan Sqaure location for dinner and not the Roscoe Village spot which is a mini version better suited for take-out. Don't be scared off by the wait either- instead bring a 6-pack in addition to your rum/wine and chill outside in the couch filled courtyard or upstairs in the studio!

    Well done, Alberto! Felicidades.

Loved the place. Atmosphere was great, even vacation like. Sat in oversized chairs and made me feel like a kid. Didn't realize but if you bring wine they make sangria for you. Maybe next time. Had shrimp with red sauce on a plantain. Forgot what it was called but it was better on the menu than on my pallet. Had the pork balls and they were pretty good, big portion. Plantains were scrumptious. The best part of the meal, however, was my gf's steak. Kudos to the waiter for suggesting it because at first he seemed like too much of a salesman. Overall great experience and I'll be taking my @ss back cross 90 mile, but I will be ordering something new on my next visit.Hopefully then I will be able to push this place up to 5 stars where it could be.

A couple of things before I review.  My boyfriend's dad is from Cuba so naturally we like to check things like this out.  He's been to the other location before.  He is already a fan.  Also we came here with a big group.  It was a birthday party and we were having cocktails before dinner.

That said there was a bit of a wait before we were seated.  That kind of bums me out when you have a reservation.  BUT its BYOB and they have that area in the back to hang out and wait.  Plus it was Saturday night so they're forgiven.
This place is HUGE.  I mean I thought it was just a few tables but it just keeps going and going.

We were seated at a big table.  I think there were 11 of us total.  They were great with waters and the easiest was to order just a bunch of stuff for sharing.  Then it was a parade of deliciousness.  Empanadas, tamales, shrimp things, fried things.  All yummy!  I'd had the guava & cheese combo before but this place does it really well!!

They were good sports for 11 people.  We had a total blast and no one left hungry.  I can't wait to go back on a smaller scale with just my Cuban boyfriend.

Really enjoyed hitting this place up this weekend. We got there at about 9 oclock and there was about an hour wait but there was a real nice open patio area where you can have some BYOB and chill. They also will get you stuff to make Sangria if you have brought the right stuff to mix. We chilled in the patio for about 40 min before there was an open table. The outdoor seating was fun, it was a beautiful night to be outside ... and we had some great food. We had the croquets as an appetizer and they reminded me of Spain. They have a very nice menu with a lot of fun options. It reminded me of some of the food we had in Puerto Rico which I love .. habichuelas, arroz, tostones, etc. I ordered the Cuban ... probably more of a lunch item but I have been craving a Cuban ever since I had one in Puerto Rico and their rendition of a Cuban was both very good and huge! Probably could split it with someone else. Everyone else in our group loved their food and spending part of a Saturday night here ... I will be back for sure!  ¡Gracias!

Delicious food (you haven't lived until you've tried their ropa vieja and empanadas), cool atmosphere (they even have an upstairs "lounge" they send you to wait in until your table is ready), but surprisingly unfriendly service, especially for being a Latin place.

I came with a party of 10 and instead of walking around the table to get our orders, the server just stood at one end and made everyone yell our orders down the table to her. The place is loud to begin with, and trying to yell questions about the menu back and forth isn't too pleasant.

It's also BYOB and there's a $3 "hospitality fee" for bringing in a 6 pack.

My friends have been telling me about this place for a while - so happy I finally made it here!

Went early on Saturday with 2 friends.  We had 6:30 reservations, and arrived 1/2 hour early.  Was able to wait upstairs, open our wine, and write on the walls!

Our waiter was so friendly and gave great recommendations.   We had 2 appetizers, and both were plentiful and flavorful.  I had the special paella of the night.  I would go back just to eat this again!  So much food and all of it wonderfully prepared.

BYOB also!   Can't wait to go back.

I enjoyed my first Cuban dining experience at 90 mile.
My friend and I were prepared to order a nice fruity alcoholic beverage when we read that they were BYOB. Our fault for not checking into it beforehand, but I just thought I'd let you know.
I got the shredded beef dish with plantains, rice, and beans. It was good, but I had to dock a star because it was a little too salty for me. The food was, however, very comforting. Our server was spectacular, and everything was quick.
I would have to say it's a little expensive for my taste and for what ingredients are really used in the entrees, but that is just me.

I came here for lunch last Thursday with my mom, sister and brother.  What a cute place!  We found parking RIGHT in front, so already the meal was off to a great start!  The outside area looked like it'd be a lot of fun, but it was pretty chilly so we sat inside.  The atmosphere was really fun and there were lots of things to look at, which is always great!

We started off with some Green Plantains w/ a garlic sauce, they were a bit different than we had expected, but I thought they were great.  The garlic sauce was good too.  I got a mango something iced tea- excellent!  We all ordered sandwiches, I ended up with the Cuban one, and it was so good!  Writing this post now at 11:30am makes me hungry for lunch!!!  Best part, we all ordered a beverage had an appetizer and 4 meals and it was under $50!  I was shocked (and excited)!!!

I will definitely be back, this is a great place to go just because or if you have company in town they'll get a kick out of it too!

The food is outstanding.  I would have given the restaurant 5 stars except sometimes the service is not so great.  I eat here a lot and have never had a bad meal.  The Ropa Vieja is my favorite meal, but you can't go wrong with the sandwiches either.

I recommend coming in the warm weather and sitting on the patio!

But, the service can be slow.  I've also experienced problems on the weekend when the staff tries to move me out the door quickly.  One Saturday night I ordered a coffee and they brought it in a to go cup!  So but for the service, this would be a 5 star review.

This the most authentic Cuban food I've had north of Miami. The owner is a Miami native and he has kept true to real Cuban cuisine. While some of the food is jazzed up you can be sure the staples of the Cuban diet - black beans, rice, maduros, pork, bistec empanizado etc - will taste the way Abuela used to do it. I've heard the pastelitos are even shipped up from Miami. Theyre no Vicki bakery Pastelitos but they're  still leagues better than anything else you'll find in the city.

Wow--my best birthday dinner in a long time! Didn't have the foresight to make a reservation for my large group well ahead of time, so we faced a 90 minute wait when we showed up at 7 on a Saturday (what do you expect, right?). This totally could have bummed out my birthday celebration but fortunately we were loaded with bottles of wine and directed to the "waiting room" in the house next door. After popping open the wine and taking some photos with the Nosferatu mannequin (did any other reviewers see Nosferatu in the waiting room? come on! creepy but hilarious) we were directed to our table in less time than originally stated.

I would have waited two hours for this delicious food! The tostones with the garlic aioli are delicious. The puerco rostizado just could not get in my mouth fast enough. I'm still thinking about that dish.

To top it off, the atmosphere is fun and lively. There are clearly regulars who must come here every week to eat comida sabrosa and have a great time. Maybe I can make myself one of them!

Fantastic ambiance! Good service! Fair portions! The food tasted better than other cuban joints I've visited in the city. It was nice to see vegetarian and gluten-free options in their menu as well as items that I've rarely seen elsewhere, such as stuffed yuca, guava/cheese empanadas and goat cheese empanadas.

The place is BYOB, which I didnt know until I got there, was lucky to find wine a few blocks away. The place was packed and I assume based on the amount of reviews, I've seen here, that its pretty popular, so make sure to make reservations.

For appetizers, we tried their croquetas, which were good, but not sure those were "homemade" as the server stated, also had their guava and cheese empanadas, which were delicious!

As an entree, went simple, had their chicken with grilled onions, rice and black beans and yuca al mojo. It wasnt over the top, but again, it was better than what I've tried at other cuban places..

    I would definitely come back!

People rave about Cuban food quite a bit, but I'd never been treated to anything beyond average.  Cafe 28 and Cafe Laguardia had been pretty mediocre.  Then 90 Miles came along and made everything better.

BYOB.  Bring Your Own Booyah.  This is the secret to success that all restaurants know but most are too ashamed to admit.  People love bringing their own booze.  You could serve nothing but baloney on Wonderbread and people would still rave about the fact that they could bring in a six pack.  If you build it, they will come, but make it BYOB first.

I like the vast majority of BYOBs, but some of them hide their average fare behind that delicious little acronym.  Not 90 Miles, though.  We started with the choripan, a Cuban take on bruschetta with chorizo and peppers.  Excellent beginning.

Dinner was a pork tenderloin stuffed with ham, cheese, and some other things I don't remember.  I'd really like to recall this dish's actual name, but several beers that evening and Father Time have fogged my memory.  If you can't find it on the menu, just ask about the pork stuffed with even more pork.  I couldn't even finish it, and that was the first time I'd had such a problem with Cuban food.

At the end of the meal, I'd enjoyed the food and drink so thoroughly that I almost gave our very good waiter a total of $6 on a $60 bill.  A friend caught the mistake, and we all remembered why I don't normally settle the bill.  Good food can confuse the mind, I guess.

I went here for dinner one night a couple of years back, with a group of friends. The atmosphere was very laid back casual. We ate dinner on the back patio and were able to lounge around and enjoy the meal as the restaurant was not too crowded.

Pretty good food. I would recommend going here if you want a casual laid back dinner/evening out.

Came here on Friday night for dinner with a friend and the wait was 45 minutes. I didn't think there was a lounge area and I thought we would have to sit and wait at the door until the gentleman said "Follow me and I'll take you upstairs to the lounge" and then he had me hooked. What a wonderful maze. Walked through the small dining room on first floor, up some stairs to the main dining room and through a door and up some more stairs to what looked like someone's apartment. I loved it!!!!!

We were given a wine opener and some glasses and we settled in on the comfy couches by the window to drink and catch up. *There is a 3 dollar per bottle charge*

We ordered the tostones rellenos and empanadas which were not that great to me. Tasted kind of like pre-packaged frozen food that was just warmed up.

I had the ropa vieja sandwich with platanos maduros and the avocado plate which was fabulous and that redeemed this place in my eyes. My friend had a garlicy shrimp dish which was also very good.

Great lively atmosphere, BYOB, fun decor, super friendly staff and pretty decent food. Seems like it would be fun to go with a big group.

    I will be back soon!

So I was there for a friend's B-day on Sunday afternoon.

It was a big group of about 12 or so. We got there just before 7 and there were a few other friends there already.
It was a good experience overall with a few things that could've been better.

For the apps. we ordered calamari, soy, goat cheese and ropa vieja empanada, and croquetas. The only thing that I really enjoyed from the apps. were the soy empanadas everything else left a lot to wish for.
I had really high expectation for the goat cheese empanadas but they failed me. They were not as flavorful as I had expected at all being (being goat cheese you expect big flavor). Plus they were not cold nor hot (not even evenly warm for that matter) The calamari was on the small side (potion and calamari itself) a little underdone if you asked me. And yes i know you don't want to over cook calamari "cause it gets tough but underdone is just as bad.

The main dishes were really good (at least everything I tried) Churrasco was cooked to perfection and with the sauce (chimichurri if I'm not mistaken) on top even better.
I had the ropa vieja dish and it was very good from the perfectly cooked shredded meat with the bell peppers to the sides which were white rice and black beans (love black beans).
I also got to try the grilled vegetable and the steak guajirito sandwich. The grilled veggies were ridiculously good specially the portobello mushroom. The sandwich was good as well but with it came the most amazing yuca fries i have ever had. This fries will make you doubt any other yuca fries.

It is BYOB and that was on big factor in deciding to come here. We brought a few bottles of wine and they fixed some good sangria for us. And even though the quality of the wine is not up to them this at least speaks about their service. We were happy with the service they were there when needed and still gave room to have a good time.

One huge complaint though. Cold weather and me are like the worst enemies ever and it was cold in there (really cold) It got to the point that few of us had to put jackets on.

90MCC go for the entrees, avoid the apps and bring your jacket if in winter

I was excited about going to 90 Mi C.C. but after my experience, I'd never go back.

    1. After seated on the patio, no one came to take our order, bring us water, etc for abt 10 minutes (there were only a few tables sat).

    2. We put in our drink order, appetizer order and food order (server didn't write anything down)  and when it came out, they forgot out Cuban sandwich... Go figure.

    3. Instead of coming back to tell us what had happened with our order, the server went to the computer to put the order in and completely ignored us for about 25 minutes.  By the time the dish came out, we just wanted to leave.

    4. The rice was uncooked and steak and 2 pieces of shrimp were embarrassing.

While I understand that accidents happen, this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth... ...

Coming to 90 Miles was my first experience of Cuban food, and I definitely have to say that I love it!

Just about everything about 90 Miles shows the thought and effort that has gone into making this a lovely restaurant. The decor is homey, and very welcoming. The servers are very friendly. I went for dinner and had the Ropa Viejas. This was absolutely delicious and mouth watering.

My friend and I also wanted to try a few desserts. I had the Flan which is perfectly portioned, and equally delicious. My friend had the Bread Pudding; I was surprised to see that it was a very large piece of soaked bread instead of a pudding. I thought that it was great, but the portion size was a bit much to finish.

I just moved into the area and am so glad this place is nearby. I had a dinner date last night and everything was absolutely delicious. We started with the tostones rellenos. I love the bowls made of fried plantains. The tomato sauce slightly overpowered the shrimp filling but it was still good. For my entree I had the Filete de pargo (Red snapper) which is something I will definitely order again. The portion is huge so I took about half of it home. It was still good even the next day.

We sat on the back covered patio which was surprisingly warmer than it was outside. Looking at it from the outside you would never guess that the decor is as classy as it actually is. Love the murals and accent windows. I also appreciated that they had I Love Lucy playing on the TV. I mean hey, anything besides sports is fine by me.

More attentive service would have bumped it up to 5 stars. It took a while to get glasses of water. Then they sat empty for a long time even though the bus boy couldn't wait to take our appetizer plate before I had even finished. Only a minor annoyance. The food made up for it.

Went with my hubby on Saturday night and had a great time.  Being a former Floridian this place really makes me feel like I'm back in Miami.  I had the ropa veija which was good, but not quite as good as what I've had at the other location.  It seems like the flavors weren't quite as deep as normal.  The sides were black beans and rice (good) and sweet plantains (yummy!).  Ever since I moved here I miss having plantains sooo much.  My husband had the bistec steak which was awesome, the sauce or salsa that is came with was truly delightful.  For dessert we had the vanilla flan which I would highly recommend.  My husband hates flan and he even thought it was delicious.

I will definitely go back, and I totally love the vibe but the seating is a little weird in some places.  Definitely a go to spot if you're in the mood for Cuban food.

Had a leisurely late lunch by myself on the patio.  I got three empanadas: goat cheese, veggie, and guava with goat cheese; with the avocado side dish and a passion tea.

The sauce they serve with the empanadas is delicious - I think it's mainly olive oil, cilantro, onions, and a bit of lime juice.   I treated the guava with goat cheese empanada as dessert.

I very much enjoyed the avocado side dish, as it's simply a whole avocado sliced and drizzled with a bit of olive oil.  I thought $4.50 for an avocado was a little steep, but it made such a perfect addition to my empanadas that I can't even complain.  Where else do you even get the option of ordering an entire avocado?

The service and ambiance can't be beat.

This place is a go to spot for us, especially since we live down the street. I'm not a huge fan of cuban food honestly, but my wife is. Her favorite things here are the empanadas and the ropa vieja, both of which are very good. The fact that it is BYOB and the prices are reasonable make this a pretty solid spot. The outstanding service combined with the atmosphere make this a Chicago spot to try!

90 miles is authentic to certain items. Like many restaurants, they "americanize" certain things for the white palate. Which is fine, because sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

I've been here a total of 4 times. The first time was a great experience and I became hooked to their goat cheese empanadas. However, every time has gotten worse. The service, the food, etc.

I am a huge fan of their media noche but since it's so greasy I don't eat it often. The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and casual.

Oh yeah, the owner is hot. So that's always a good reason to go.

90 miles almost always has some pretty solid dishes....tasty, garlic-y, savory....they can be hit or miss though.  I've been here enough times to know that every once and a while I will be disappointed - whether with the service or the food.

That being said, they have always seemed to pride themselves on being BYOB with no corkage fees.  It even says so on their menus.  BYOB - no corkage fees!   That has changed.  It is now $3 for a six pack, and I am not sure how much the wine is but that has a corkage fee as well.  I hate to sound entitled, but why?  Why pride yourself on something like that, have REPEAT customers come there and then be told that we now have to pay a corkage fee.  On top of that, they've raised their prices significantly in the past 2 years.

I am not in the restaurant business, but I do understand a few things.  Yes, food prices go up.  However, nowhere else I go has raised their prices as much as 90 miles has (relative to their old prices).   Yes, people take advantage of BYOB and hang around to finish off their bottle of wine or 6 pack.  So...charge those people the corkage fee.  There's got to be a better way.  I left 90 miles tonight satisfied with my food, but dissatisfied about the road they have been heading down.

You are better off going down the road to Chilapan.  Unless they now have corkage fees as well...

Great food, bring your own booze. Daily specials are a great choice. Cuban-American cuisine is pretty good. Great ambience.

I came here a few days ago because I was hungry. I didn't plan on coming here. I just didn't want to go to a typical chain restaurant. The food was fantastic and the service wasn't bad. Just one thing I think the workers should smile more.

Huge fan of the papa rellenas and the empanadas. As far a cuban food in Chicago, this is one of the best I have had so far. We were in a large group and they were able to accomodate. Great BYOB as well!

90 Miles! Where have you been all my life?? I came here for the first time for a NYE double date, and it was love at first Empenada sight. Our reservation was for an early dinner at 5pm, which worked out perfectly because I am told the restaurant gets pretty busy.

I had a great experience from the very beginning. Our waitress was really friendly, and gave us plenty of time to order. She even gave us some suggestions on appetizers because we didn't really know what we wanted. Of course, we decided on the Empenadas, and they were fabulous. We had all different flavors, each one more unique than the next. My personal favorites were the beef, and goat cheese. Highly recommended for a starter!

My dinner was even better. I was in the mood for seafood, so I got the shrimp specialty dinner plate- Camarones al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp) I loveddd it. It was a generous portion of six super jumbo shrimp marinated in garlic and spices. It also came with white rice, black beans, and fried plantains. Each item on my plate was full of flavor and complimented each other so well. Overall, I was one happy gal. I also got to try the Bistec (Steak) which was also very flavorful. The piece I had was just a bit chewy, but otherwise very enjoyable. I wouldn't mind ordering it in the future.

We were all too full for dessert, but my date couldn't resist ordering a nice hot cup of cuban coffee (YUM). It was a perfect ending to a great meal. 90 Miles is winner in my book, and I will definitely be coming back!

My first Cuban experience and it was a good one.  Went to a birthday party with a party of 18 and 90 Miles delivered.  There was a slight wait for our table and we waited in a large waiting area with tables and chairs and started enjoy our BYOB selections.

Once we were seated Buck was huge help and kept the empanadas and amazing food coming.  I rocked the Churrasco which was amazing and not a single one of the 18 of us had a bad meal.

The place was packed and they have I love Lucy reruns playing constantly.  Took me a second to figure out the Ricky Ricardo connection!  First and definitely not last trip to 90 Miles.

enjoyed a leisurely saturday lunch here with two of my best and most demanding girls: neither of them can eat gluten, one of them is a vegetarian and the other can't have dairy. tall orders for any restaurant, but 90 miles had something for all of us.

the vegetarian platter, vegetarian sandwich and chicken sandwich (sans bread!) were all great. this place does simple food very well -- loved the "avocado on the side," perfectly ripe and served just with salt, pepper and olive oil. but my mango shake stole the show -- everyone who saw it was jealous and wanted one for themselves.

the set-up in the outdoor enclosure was cozy and cute with a nice little fireplace keeping customers warm. if i lived in chicago, i'd come back here for sure.
