Review from Bernadette N.
Burbank, CA
I was waaaaaay overdue for a massage and really wanted to go to a place where my husband and I could enjoy together without breaking the bank. Plus I just haven't been interested nor have I had the time to go to an overrated, full service day spa lately. And I'm glad.
This place is a GEM. The hub and I came here on Sat afternoon and I had Cindy, he got Emma.
I LOVED Cindy. If you're looking for the short story, here's all you need to read about her: Cindy was so great, I eventually didn't hear the large lady's moaning from her massage 15 feet away from me.
She is so sweet and tiny but her hands pack some strength! I often found myself wondering how such a tiny thing could have such strength! She hit all my trouble spots and she even took a serious stab at my oh so sensitive back, which has always been a troublesome area for me (I have this crazy weird knee jerk reaction to having my back touched). I also had so much tension in my neck and shoulders that the mobility in my neck was limited, but she got all the knots out!!! Yaaay, happy neck!
My husband is lucky enough to not have the same issues with tense muscles like I do, but he thought Emma was pretty good too. He noted how strong her hands were (and he's a big guy!) and definitely wants to come back.
All in all:
- parking is great since it's located in a strip mall
- at it sure about the other masseuses, but with Cindy you will forget where you are
- ambiance is nice: dim lights, relaxing spa -like music, water fountains make for great ambient sounds
- WORTH- every . Single . Dollar . Tip well. -

All I can say is Wow, wow, wow. I've spent 3 or 4 times as much on a full body massage and didn't feel this good when I left. I used a Groupon that I bought last December, and this business truly seems to understand the importance of doing as good a job on a special like this as well as when you pay full price.
Its a small place, you stay clothed, its clean and the decor is nice, the chairs very comfy. Very low lighting, soft music and a beautiful photographic mural of the ocean. There is a trickling fountain that adds to the relaxation.
You start out with a lovely footbath in a tub of herbal water, and it just gets better from there. Head and face massage (and she was very careful around my nose piercing, +points...neck and shoulders, arms and hands, then reflexology on the feet and a leg massage, then you flip over in the chair and more neck and shoulders, complete back, then legs from the back (including the bum, which I love since I have joint issues in my hips, more + points) I kept expecting it to end and it just kept going.
The young lady that worked on me seemed to intuitively know where I was hurting (I have neck and shoulder injuries and degenerative disc disease in my lower back, and I was having a really bad pain day). She was just "hard" enough to work out alot of the knots but I don't feel bruised like I have after more traditional full-body massages.
I was completely impressed...I paid $20 for my Groupon, and their regular price is $40. I feel I got just as good a treatment for my $20, and will definitely go back and spend the $40. I tipped $20, since it was a special, but if I pay full price I think $15 will be a good tip, and still well worth it and well under the usual $60 - $80 + tip going rate.
Check this place out if you want a great massage for a great price.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 5/14/2012

I've been back many times since my first review, and every time it has been a great experience. I always ask for the same woman, Lisa, so I can't comment on the rest of their people, but everyone always seems very satisfied when they leave! The owner, Samuel, greets me by name, and always seems very cheerful and happy to see everyone.
And the price! Currently, they have a special that almost makes me feel bad to take advantage of (but then again, I wouldn't go as often if it were more). $150 for ten 1 hour massages. That's only $15 per massage, not counting the tip, which you would hopefully give at least $10-$15 for if you are satisfied. Think about it! That's a lot of work, and they do it all day long, and most of them only have one day off a week! I give at least $15. So for me, that's only $30 a pop for a very satisfying 1 hour massage, including the tip.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Pasadena, CA
As much as I would have liked to give this spot 5 stars - I can't.
First time I went in (yes, the guy at the door is extremely nice) my massage was pretty horrible. The male masseuse smelled like cigarette smoke and throughout my massage I heard him chuckling back and forth with a fellow masseuse. Not to mention the passion he had for gum chewing was annoying and not at all peace-inducing.
As I exited Samuel (guy at front desk) asked if I was satisfied. I, of course shared the happenings with him and he apologized and offered me a gift card for a free massage. With that particular masseuse, he said people usually love or hate him. He recommended I return and ask for Emily. He also kindly reminded me not to post my Yelp review until after I had another massage. I can respect that.
I called to schedule my second massage and was told to do it online instead so that I could choose my masseuse and set up a text reminder...ok...so I did and chose Emily. My appointment was at 9p. I arrive only to be told they were backed up and I'd have to wait 30 minutes for Emily. I had rushed over from a late meeting so I was disappointed and let him know the max I could wait was 15 mins. 15 mins later, I'm seated with a female masseuse. The massage was ok -- felt like she was very new and that I was a test client for her. After I tipped her, I asked her name and she wasn't Emily.
That sealed the deal for me. Hence it's time to write this review. This place may be a good fit for some but definitely not for all. To each his own. Some things in life are worth paying for so I'd rather go to a professional masseuse (in a private room) for $45/hr then deal with this shit.
Oh and I noticed that all of the clocks in there are on a different time....I'm sure that'll change soon. Good luck!Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 5/23/2012

Versus experiences at such parlors in the San Gabriel Valley and San Jose, this place is as good as any. Lisa did a very good job - not too hard, not too soft, no bruises. The price is $10 higher than most in SGV but worth the difference saved on gas and time.

Great price, bit of a rush on your problem areas but hey, theyre open late when you might really need it. Legit place with a bit of a seedy feel from the greeter but otherwise all good. This is SGV style chinese foot massage at the same price without the drive. Definitely broke up the soreness and worthy of a good tip.

I went to get a massage at 8th Wonder Spa on Sunday and it was a great experience. The hour was too short! I knew I would want two hours, but I was afraid that I wouldn't like it. It was a good massage. My masseuse was Cindy, she was really nice and quiet. She went a little too rough on my shoulders but not the kind where it ruined the entire experience. I didn't feel any pain the next day, I think if you can withstand the pain it's actually really good for you, I just can't withstand it, lol. I told my co-worker about it and she visited on Tuesday she said she loved it as well. I love the soak for the feet, it's very relaxing. I think for my next visit I will ask the masseuse to focus more on my back and go really hard on my feet. She was so good she actually cracked my back which I LOVED. Definitely coming back.

I'm glad I waited until the next day after my session to write this review because yesterday I would have given this place 3 stars.
The place is narrow with reclining massage chairs about 5 feet apart from each other. "Ambiance" is fair. If you're used to the Four Seasons or Canyon Ranch this is the antipodean (diametrically opposed). It's busy and lots of customers.
The therapist I had BEAT my a$$ with such intensity I was about to ask them to stop or back off a bit. I'm such a baby.
I did not enjoy the pain at the moment but the next day after a good night's sleep
I FEEL GREAT! My lower back pain is gone and my muscles are relaxed.
I guess I had to be destroyed so I could be built back up so to speak.
So for the money it's as good as it gets.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 4/15/2012

just got back from an amazing, peaceful, heavy eyelid inducing massage.
I saw an offer for this place from Google and figured it would be a great addition to my fiance's birthday presents and for the price, I could get one for myself too!
We both had great experiences.
Cindy was awesome! She massaged me. She's tiny but her little hands PACK A PUNCH! She kneaded out the problem spots I went in for AND found some additional ones and battled them out.
My fiance said the guy working on him got a workout and took full advantage that my man is a big guy, from my recliner I could hear his masseuse huffing and puffing and smacking the heck out of him - and i mean that in the strictly technical sense *which is exactly what my fiance was looking for*
This place is in a pretty good size shopping center and theres tons of parking. The lighting is nice and subdued, there's waterfalls for ambiance and some really peaceful instrumental music playing in the background.
We will most definitely be back.
Oh.......and i loved the massage recliners! I kept wondering how I was going to lie down face first since it didnt seem like the chair had the face hole but low and behold, there it was!

This place is so bomb. Came here because I really needed a massage. I made an appointment online for a monday afternoon. I got seated right away. A woman gave me my massage. She didn't speak any English, but I had someone tell her to focus more on my neck and back. I have TONS of knots on my neck and back.
She did a great job, but DAMN IT HURT LIKE CRAZY. It wasn't the lady giving me the massage, but it was how many knots I had and didn't do anything about it until now.
It was $25 for an hour. That is pretty cheap. You keep your clothes on while they give you a massage. They actually even put towels over you. It's not in a private room so I liked that. They have very calm music in the background and its pretty dark.
Parking is simple. Its in a shopping center with other stores so parking ain't too bad.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 3/7/2012

My boyfriend and I went here for his birthday and we were really satisfied with our service. The manager is really kind and takes his time to get to know his clients and does a great job following up.
The masseur that I had, I think his name is Jessie, was great and I loved that he was firm and was such a gentleman. He made sure I was comfortable and his massage was very relaxing.
It was my boyfriends first massage and he has had knee and feet problems before but the massage really helped in alleviating the pain and made his body feel loose and free of tension.
We plan on coming back because of the great service, great price, and the atmosphere.

My bf consistently kept nagging me to go to this massage spot, in which he had previously purchased a couple groupons for. I was first reluctant, but finally caved in.
We were greeted with smiles and shortly taken to the room, in which a bucket of warm water was waiting for us to soak our feet in. The massage started with pressure points from the scalp, to the neck, arms, feet and finally back. The worst part of my experience was when it was over. I cant wait to go back! I am a detailed, objective and picky person and I can usually find some positives and some negatives in any place - not so here, even though I did look. I was surprised to see all these 5 star reviews prior to going and a bit sceptical, but now that I have tried the place for myself and have spoken to the owner both on the phone and in person, all scepticism is gone, gone, gone.
This place feels like it materialized from my happy dreams in so many ways that it's practically scary, but in a great way.
This place is located in a little strip mall with free parking outside.
Their hours are perfect - noon till midnight 7 days a week. They accept walk-ins or you can make an appointment through their website. When scheduling an appointment online you can select which masseuse you'd like to work on you and what time (I hear they all have different strengths - I'd like to try them all and see for myself.). They have both male and female massage professionals available.
The place is all about cleanliness in every way including utilizing hand sanitizer liberally.
Their prices are amazing beyond words - $20 cash for an hour of full body massage that doesn't miss any part of you - back, neck, head, ears, shoulders, legs, feet, arms, hands... I was waiting for the masseuse I had to miss something or to apply too much or too little pressure, but it never happened. And the prices get even better if you are willing to buy a 10 pack of 1 hour massage gift certificates for $150 cash (making each one hour session only $15 - hecks yeah!) which you can then use at your leisure.
When you walk in there is some water and herbal tea available to help you relax and get ready for the awesome massage. The massage chairs are very comfy and the atmosphere is extremely quiet and relaxing with sounds of little water fountains in the air.
The owner is very welcoming and accommodating - he'll gladly answer any questions you may have. He made me feel unbelievably welcome (the way he comes across in the replies to reviews is how he came across in person - so welcoming and happy to have you visit his business).
I just hope this M-A-Zing place that seems to be a manifestation of my dreams stays in Glendale (convenient for me) and keeps offering these amazing prices (as low as $15 for an hour of full body massage) and staying this awesome and welcoming. I've already been raving to people close to me about this place - I'm in love :) I want to get one of these massages daily, lol, I really do! :)

Yesterday, what with my persistent aching lower back pains, I felt far older than my 20-something years.
Today, hours after my first massage at 8th Wonder Spa, I feel like a sprightly 16-year-old. Thanks to the strong, sure hands of my masseuse, I enjoyed one hour of bliss. A jam-packed 60 minutes of nonstop relaxation. The massage was great, and even better, the customer service was thoughtful, polite, and accommodating. Since massage places like this rarely place an emphasis on customer service, I was pleasantly surprised. The massage was worth every penny of the $25 I spent ($20 for massage, $5 for tip), though I'm not sure how long the $20 special will go on (I got the deal for booking online). I'm not sure I'd go as often if I had to pay $40 every time, but I'd certainly still be a regular!
I'm thrilled this place opened up in Glendale. It's the only one of its kind I know in the area, open until midnight every night, and I will be back probably a little too soon.

This was my first massage ever and I was glad to find this place. After reading the good reviews on yelp and knowing it was only $20 for an hour of full body massage I had to book an appointment.
I was greeted by Sam the owner i think and he was very polite and had this calm soothing voice. The ambiance was just perfect. Nice dim lighting and the sound of waterfalls. I didn't wait long before I was in a chair with my feet in a bucket of hot water. I immediately felt relax and the massage hadn't even started! Long story short my masseuse did a great job at massaging my whole body. It was a bit of a strong massage in the beginning but I figured they knew what they were doing and that they needed to apply a lot of pressure to loosen me up. Next time I will make sure to request medium pressure because strong pressure was a bit much for me.
I will definitely take the 30min drive to this spa hopefully once a month or more frequent if possible. The fact that they are open until midnight is a big plus for me. $20+tip is a great deal and I hope it stays like that for a while.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 2/13/2012

Wonderful massage at 8th Wonder! I've been here twice and I love it. It's my go-to stress reliever for a relaxing weekend.
Upon entering 8th Wonder, you think, hey wait, how's this going to work with no private room? Will I enjoy that whole massage chair setup? The answer is yes, it works amazingly well--you still get a very personal experience--and the big cozy chairs actually fold into typical massage tables.
The quiet instrumental music, dim lighting, flowing water fountains and silent staff and clientele make this experience just as relaxing, if not better than much pricier spas. For one whole hour you will experience a thorough Chinese massage from head to toe. The "Services" section on their website lists it all in detail. My favorite parts are the amazing face and scalp massage complete with aromatic lotions. It opens your sinuses and preps you for the whole experience. Also the reflexology foot massage is heaven. Now, I am not a fan of foot massages--they usually tickle my feet--but I let my masseuse Ocean relax my poor tired feet. Wow! My first and the best foot massage of my life!
Some masseuses go into cracking your back. If you're not into this, let them know. Overall I'm extremely satisfied by the quality and price. And I travel all the way from the Westside for this joint--it's really worth it. Extremely friendly staff and crazy affordable prices. They have a sort of grand opening special right now. Only $20 for the full hour massage. Cash Only! Even if the prices go up, I will be back again and again!Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 1/22/2012

After getting enough gift cards to and from here last christmas to choke a baby, I decided to give it a try this last weekend. My sister whose been here before with an entire nursing school class swore that a walk in would be doable. But seeing how it was a saturday night and we had no reservations, we had to wait.
The owner (i think he was the owner) met us outside before we walked in. He was a nice guy but very much reminded me of a stereotypical grifter from the 50's (hat and all) He told us they were full up and normally busy on saturday nights but didnt turn us away. We simply had to put our name on the list wait our turn, much like the process at a korean restaurant. Even offered us a tea while we waited.
When you walk in you see a narrow room with a row of fancy, uh, "massage recliners" facing a serene (albeit tacky) beach photo mural.
Now, Ive only had a massage once in my life before this and had to take me clothes off (or maybe i just fell for it) so i was a little wary of this scene; but you keep your clothes on and are encouraged to be absolutely quiet so it doesnt even feel like other people are in there with you.
You even have a scented towel covering your eyes so you cant see whats going on. The place smells good, like how a spa should smell like (or like the aveda store, whatever) and the only sound you hear
is water falling down the water feature and the sound of fist slapping into back and ass. But, you know, the not x-rated kind of ass slapping.
Me and the 3 others i was with got full body massages. im not even sure if they do other massages here because everyone was getting full body's that night.
I had a very friendly asian lady in pink scrubs massaging me. I say friendly because every time I looked at her in the face she would not stop smiling or asking me what I wanted. Its hard to be cynical when something like that is staring at you. Cant even make an off color 'happy ending' joke there. And if you are looking for one of those shady thai massage operations, look elsewhere, this isnt it.
Anyway, the massage really is full body. If I remember correctly, they do face, then head. Arms and hands, feet, legs and then flip you over and do your entire back side. What I wasn't expected (out of ignorance, probably) is the woman straddling me, knees first and grinding the shit out of my spine. That was really the only unpleasant part for me, anyway. Other people might like it rough.
Oh yes, I was also internally laughing hysterically because one of my companions made a joke about not shaving her legs before this venture and how (probably) gross it would be to have to massage those.
The best part of all is that the damage was only $25/person! Hot damn, I could've went 10 times that day, but id probably be an oily bruised mess afterwards. You're highly encouraged to tip, which you should be doing anyway, but they do remind you in case you forget how society works.
JUST A FEW TIPS before you go:
Shower!
Shave!
Wear loose, non-rhinestone-studded clothing!
Come in flip flops!
Don't expect a genital rub down (unless you have unusually placed genitalia)

Two weeks ago, my girlfriend and I were driving back from a social ballroom party, where we both felt a little stiff and sore. Perusing Yelp on our way home, we found this place, and we are so glad we did!
We got there at around 10pm on a Sunday night, and was warmly greeted by the owner. Mindy and Yoyo were great as they worked on our sore muscles. After the session, we felt so good - soreness and headache: gone.
A week later, we were coming back from a dance competition and were again sore and tired. It was a no-brainer for us to stop by once more. Our second visit did not disappoint. It was as good as the first time. The people here are great, friendly, and know what they're doing. We'll definitely keep coming back!Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 12/7/2011

I have visited 8th Wonder several times now and each time has been a relaxing and great experience. The massage therapists are polite and thorough. The spa itself is clean and comfortable. The manager is very accommodating and the customer service is outstanding. I will be a regular at this spa.

Another 5-star review for 8th Wonder Spa! Hubby and I went yesterday and were both very, very pleased with our experience. I'm more of a spa-for-a-massage type of girl, but am always open to save a buck or two. So glad we took a chance on this little gem! We both had female therapists; both spoke very little to no English, but neither of us really felt the need to talk. My full-body massage was close to perfect - next time I'll ask the owner or translator to communicate that I'd like more attention on my back and shoulders. This area was worked on for a very short time. Other than that, it was perfect. We purchased gift cards after our session for a discount, and can't wait to return!

WASTE OF MONEY.
Signed up for 12 noon today. Had masseur, Tony.
I was rushed to the massage chair, wasn't asked how much pressure I wanted. And althroughout the next hour, he was talking and joking in Chinese with the other therapists.
Masseur had cold fingertips when he started massaging my face with what smelled like toothpaste lotion.
He proceeded to batter both sides of my neck.
Then he worked on my left arm, and midway he just DROPPED my arm to get a basin of warm water.
He then grabbed the lower chair to soak my feet in the basin of warm water. After a few minutes, he lifted my feet, hurriedly scrubbed them with a dry towel, and SPRAYED them with FREEZING rubbing alcohol.
Mind you, I just took a long shower before showing up for this massage session.
The rest was a blur of thumb pressure points, cupping, and occasional punching of my muscles.
Talk about being MANHANDLED.
I paid $20. Yet, midway thru the session I was ready to walk out because I wasn't expecting a ROUGH s&m escape.
Won't return.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 2/20/2012

This is the second massage place I've been to that does the group massages with cheap pricing. This place outdoes the first by a mile.. I really enjoyed the massage and best of all, the facility was very clean. There was a clean scent throughout the place. For the price, you really can't complain.. I liked how they were firm when massaging the whole body, rather than just " ticking" the body and calling it a massage.
However, I do have a few recommendations. First, they should require that all cell phones be on silent or vibrate... .It's not really relaxing when phones are going off during a massage. Secondly, there should be some kind of wall or barrier between entering the facility and where you get the massage because some people are rude and talk loud... I realize this isn't the fault of the business but maybe something can be done about the amount of noise caused by people talking. Lastly, I REALLY enjoyed the back massage. I think it would be a great idea if they let you fill out a paper indicating whether you want the massage to be light mediate or intense. That way the employees know exactly how much pressure to apply. Also, it should state if any particular part of the body requires/wants more attention than the rest. It will allow the employees a guide to the patients needs and leave with a happier client.
All in all, VERY COURTEOUS staff and it's very evident they have great customer service skills. I will be coming back here again very soon!Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 1/9/2012

Stop the presses! Better yet, call 8th Wonder Spa of Glendale and make an appointment for an hour of pure bliss! I'm so accustomed to going to high-end spas, thinking they will take care of my muscle needs, but 8th Wonder Spa proved they can relax my muscles for a fraction of the cost that other spas charge. As soon as I walked through the door, the magic began.
Surprisingly, the owner greeted me at the door, which is the same person that took my appointment over the phone. I was quite impressed when I called to make the appointment because the owner was very accommodating and I recall him saying, "we're here for you", which was very impressive, as that's a gesture rarely given anymore by businesses. Furthermore, I informed him of the online special I seen but didn't have a chance to print the coupon and he replied, "we'll still honor the price". That online special was for an hour foot massage for $20.00. Well, I'm accustomed to receiving full-body deep tissue massages and never received only a foot massage. For $20.00, I thought it was worth a try. My, my, my, I'm so glad I called 8th Wonder Spa! The young lady that gave me a massage worked her magic like no other! She started with a light face massage, scalp massage, shoulder massage, and arms and back massage, all while my feet were soaking in hot water. Then I was asked to turn over and that's when I received the most rejuvenating back massage. I heard and felt every snap, crackle, and pop in my back which was utterly therapeutic! The ending of this fantastic massage was to my feet, and they were massaged like never before! I'm having flashbacks of euphoria just reminiscing of the experience!
Without a doubt, I plan to return to 8th Wonder Spa of Glendale. I'm not one that likes to carry a lot of cash, but I had to bring cash, as this is a "cash only" business. No worries, because it was worth the experience. I was so pleased with the service, I told the owner I'll be back momentarily because I wanted to get more cash to give my masseuse a bigger tip. I'm looking forward to my next massage!Listed in: MY ROTD LIST 2 U 4 U

What a wonderful place! I had often trekked to deep within the SGV to get an inexpensive foot spa massage, and figured "you get what you pay for". But what an amazing difference is 8th Wonder! It's quiet, with sounds of waterfalls and classical music, no TVs or people yapping on cell phones. The owner is kind and hospitable, and always makes me feel welcome. The masseurs give you a good, solid massage, using nice aromatherapy oils. And the place is very clean. And open till midnight! I might still venture to the SGV for some great Chinese food every now and then, but for an inexpensive massage? I'm staying right here in Glendale.

I just wanted to say that 8th Wonder lives up to everything that everyone has been saying about it here on Yelp. The place is clean and professional, and despite the fact that you're sharing the room with several other people, it's pretty quiet and relaxing. I booked my appointment online, and when I walked in the owner immediately came up to me and greeted me by name.
The massage therapist that I had did a fantastic job, really helping to work out some of the knots in my shoulder and neck. It started with a face and head massage, and moved down to arms, legs, feet and eventually, back, neck and shoulders.
And of course, you can't beat the prices there. I booked online, which gave me a discount, but even their normal, everyday prices are quite reasonable and worth it.
No doubt, I'll be going back.Comment from Samuel S. of 8th Wonder Spa 2/13/2012
