The best casual place in the entire area. The sandwiches and salads were both wonderful. There were 4 of us women and we each had something different, both salads and sandwiches. I had the Greens
sandwich both days I went, and each time I said "best sandwich" I've ever had. I had the rootbeer float one day too, it was also wonderful.
Do yourself a favor and eat here.1 Previous Review: Show all »

That's' right. I'm giving 89 and Pine one star and I've never even eaten there!
Cicely is right: this place can't seem to be open. I walked by early last week and saw it was open, then went in yesterday (August 30th) to get one of the allegedly amazing sandwiches and guess what? There was a handwritten sign telling me that it's closed for the season.
On its own, that sucks. But what sucks a million times more is that 89 and Pine's own website states that they're closing for the season tomorrow, September 1st. Can't they stay open as long as they say they're going to? And if not that long, at least through the end of the weekend?
Lame.
(By the way, sorry if they closed for the season for some horrible family emergency that I don't know about. I'll feel bad for my diatribe. But til I hear about such a thing, I'm sticking by my scathing review.) -

I can't wait to go back! We were lucky enough to stumble into this place on our way to Incline Village. Amazing panini sandwiches (cuban and #1 on the board, can't remember the name), great service and super nice owners. This place ranks right up there with Panini Cafe in Beverly Hills. I hope they stick around for years to come.

The short of it: FABULOUS. This place is truly an asset to Tahoe's West Shore. The paninis are stellar, the server was very friendly, and even the kitchen staff came out to say hello! The interior is nicely done, and showcases local artists and artisans. Almost all of their food is house-made, as local as possible, and is delicious! And who can say no to a $2 PBR after a hot summer day at the beautiful West Shore beaches? :) I would encourage anyone, local or visiting, to stop by and try this place! Local endorsement.
The long of it (cuz no one likes a rambling yelp post): The Norfolk Inn used to be a really weird bed and breakfast, with emphasis on the bed because breakfast was not very good there. I had my very first job doing prep work in that kitchen (I was born and raised in Tahoma), and the food coming out of the kitchen then was a bit scary. Boy, has it changed! The dark dining room has been remodeled and looks much lighter and friendlier. Cheerful painted signs adorn the inside and outside, there are tables outside, and you get a real neighborhood feel about the place [And isn't that what Tahoma is all about? :) ] The waitress was very friendly and welcoming as soon as I walked in with my friend (another Tahoe native). She obviously was very familiar with the whole menu, and highlighted the quality of the food -- the mark of a good server. She explained that they process their meats in-house (house cured bacon? Uh, yes please!), use bread from the local Truckee bakery, and make all their own creative sauces and flavor combinations. Their lemonade is fresh squeezed (we were bummed that they were all out) and they have cheap beers available. My friend and I ordered two paninis: a Cuban (pork and cappiciola ham with provologne and a spicy red pepper mustard, $10.50) and a Sophisticate (brie, prosciutto di Parma, apples, honey, spinach, $11.00). I'm used to paninis being annoyingly tiny and not filling, but these really surprised me. A single panini filled me up! The servings of meat were very generous -- prosciutto is usually sliced very thin but these were thick, hearty slabs of my favorite meat. Very impressed with the whole experience. I hope this business can stick around, it deserves it! -

Incredible sandwiches! Forget about the "other" sandwich place down the street (overrated). The staff was very friendly. A bit pricey but worth it considering the top notch ingredients they use. We had the Greens and the Tahoe and both were delicious. They used some sort of lime aioli which was tasty. So good that we went back the next day for the Sophisticate and the Boss. The Boss was boss. Best italian style sandwich I've ever had. Don't know where they get their meats but the cuts were succulent. The veggie sandwiches were great too. Pretty big portions - it'll fill ya. I'll be back to try the others as well as their salads and perhaps their desserts.

I've only been here once with my boyfriend. I must admit it is very good I had a panini called the cuban and a caesar salad and it was tasty. The people were friendly my only complaint is that they are never open when we go there. It states on their website that they are open everyday until 9pm. It's been 4 days in a row that we've gone their and each time they were closed. I would have given this place 4 stars if they stayed open til 9pm like they state on their website. Instead of driving there today like we did in the past I called this time and no answer so I'm assuming they aren't open today as well. This business will not make it to the next summer if they continue running like this.
