This is the best Chinese food in Houston. Period. My daddy drives all the way from Katy over to League City to eat here with us.

Favorite dishes are Chicken with Garlic and Sesame Beef. The pork pot-stickers are yummy, too.

We decided to give this place a try after being disappointed with JBs. They have a pretty big menu. My boyfriend ordered the orange chicken, it tasted like your average run of the mill orange chicken. His daughter ordered her favorite sweet and sour chicken, the sauce was a little on the bland side, she didn't eat much of it. I got the mango chicken in garlic sauce. It wasn't quite what I expected but it was still good. We also ordered some crab puffs which were good and the smoked duck. The duck had good flavor but was a little dry for my liking and you don't get much for the price. The food was your average Chinese. I liked the big menu, but they seemed a little pricey.

Don't let the generic odd phone number like name fool or somewhat plain exterior fool you. 888 has some pretty tasty food and a nice decor. My wife and I were shocked to see how nice it was inside and were pleased with our dishes. It was also very open and quite.

Discovered this little gem a few years ago, and when I moved back to TX I was happy to see it was still here.  I'm not sure if the food is top notch, or I have just been deprived of good Chinese food through out my life...but I love this stuff...I try to drag people here all the time and most people I do bring, leave with a new fav Chinese spot.  The service has never been a problem either.

Dickinson, Texas is not the new "Shangri La" for haute Chinese.

My parental units and I met up for a catch-up session plus I had to finish their taxes.  Seeing that we were a family, we ordered the following family-style (natch):

    - #4:  Steamed pork dumplings (8 for $4.75)
    - #123:  Clay Pot with Chicken and Jumbo Shrimp in a Coconut Curry Sauce ($10.95)
    - #68: Mango Chicken with Garlic Sauce ($8.75)
    - #52:   Fried Fishman's Platter ($9.95): 2 pcs redfish, 3 pcs scallops, and 3 pcs shrimp .

The dumplings were tasty if not a little on the chewy side.  I wonder if they had sat in the kitchen for 5 minutes before serving.  We still scarfed them up with a mixture of the paired up soy sauce and a dollop of hot chili oil on the table.

The fried seafood was a last-minute substitution when our first seafood choice (#51) was nixed due to unavailability of oysters.  We should have channelled the "Force" and skipped this section entirely.  Comprised of two fried redfish filets, three scallops, and three shrimp, it wasn't much of an adventure as much as a side trip to Chinese Red Lobster.  Blah.

The clay pot was chock full of snow peas, jumbo shrimp, and chicken which were all positives.  The curry was a bit overpowering and this was in spite of the fact that I like Indian and Thai food.  I would have been happier with a simple brown sauce with those ingredients.

The Mango Chicken was the star:  laden with brocolli, water chestnuts, baby corn, chicken, and mango chunks, this dish balanced the sweetness of the fruit with the subtle garlic sauce.  I wish we had ordered two of these and omitted the fried seafood platter.  Heck, order three and get rid of the clay pot, too.  Clean sweep!

They've opened a third location in Clear Lake proper but I don't know how that compares to this location or the original near Gulfgate.

Overall, the Gulfgate one, even with its old Pizza Hut style building seems to turn out a more authentic and soulful version of its dishes.  Perhaps, the Chinese soul of this chain fades as you drive farther away from New Chinatown.

For decent Chinese out in the non "Shangri La" of Dickinson, this place will fill the bill.  Given more time, I'll drive into town for my Chinese fix.

Finally made it to the "fancy" 888.

So here are the pluses to its flagship location:
    1. The location: It's suburbia, so it "appears" a bit safer
    2. Mucho parking
    3. Modern-ish and cleaner interior
    4. Superb service. We were immediately seated, and our server was always available just as we turned to look for her.

Always start your meal with the chicken dumplings in their hot sauce. Following it up with the fresh General Tso Chicken is never a bad option - and spring for the fried rice that's a $1 more - or go with the brown rice. My seafood soup was really salty this time around, but the spice and generous amount of seafood made up for it. Portions are still large, so dine carefully!

Oh, and let's pronounce it "triple eight," people. "Eight eight eight" is too much work on the tongue and ears.

Good chinese restaurants are hard to come by in Bay Area of Houston.  Those who live in Clear Lake and further south usually make the drive out to Chinatown to get good Chinese food.

However, this restaurant (with another location at gulfpoint) is opening a third location soon on El Camino Real and it will undoubtedly be a hit like it's two existing locations.

The menus are pretty versatile.  They have an English menu and a Chinese menu.  They have their Americanized dishes and they also have pretty good Sichuan (Szechwan or Szechuan) dishes.  They aren't kidding when they say they can make it spicy.  Be careful of which items you order because if you request them to make it extra spicy, they will load on the hot chili oil that will put your mouth on fire.

There are several good dishes we always enjoy there but they are ordered off of the Chinese menu so I don't know the exact English translation.  The fish is consistently good, the sizzling beef dish, the MaPo Tofu is excellent, and the sauteed squid is very fresh.

The waitstaff seems pretty inexperienced and at times slow but they are friendly, willing to help, and speak English.  Prices are very reasonable.

This is definately the best chinese spot in all of Galveston County, hands down. 1.wonton soup is excellent and has a great broth. 2.egg rolls always taste fresh. 3. I have not once had a bad meal here, and I've eaten here at least 50 times. 4. great vegetarian selection.

My only complaint is that they dont have a combination plate, and thats because I have several favorites here and its always a dilemna for me on what to order.

The General Tsos chicken uses quality chicken breast is never soggy and has the best Tsos sauce I've ever had, also for a veggie alternative try the General Tsos Bean Curd. The Sesame Beef is my personal favorite. The fried rice is so-so but I'm a sticky white rice fan so this doesn't effect me, but the fried rice is meat free unlike a lot of places. I love the pork dumplings. My wife loooves their springs rolls but to me they are only ok. the service is always friendly and fast except for the hostesses which always seem a lil rude but maybe its just me. There are always big chinese families in there eating which tells you alot. Once you've eaten here, all else is out the window for chinese food in the area.

For a chain, you are pretty tasty. There is no denying it.

I've been twice in a month and enjoyed both times. First, had the chicken with eggplant in garlic sauce then the shredded beef. Service is quick and the food is HOT. I'm a spice fiend.

Having lunch specials 7 days a week was a pleasant surprise.

Definitely my go-to fast food Chinese place now after seeing and experiencing a rapid decline in the quality of food in the Clear Lake/League City area.

I really can't say much about this place that I haven't said about 528 Asian Bistro in friendswood. The food is practically identical, except 528 does the whole Sushi thing.

I gave 528 a 3 and I'm giving this a 4 and there is a perfectly good reason even though they are practically the same restaurant: The Hours. 888 is utterly brilliant with their hours. The Clear-Lake League City area has very few places that stay open past 9. League City especially, after 9 the place is a GHOST TOWN. And here we have something I've been wanting for the longest. A late night chinese place. Seriously I've been wanting this for so long that I was about to start trying more metaphysical methods to obtain such a thing, unfortunately I don't think there is a dance or chant or prayer that can bring such a thing about, but now there is no need!.....almost. The ideal would be a 24 hour chinese place, but that will never happen in the area so I'll gladly settle for a place that stays open till 11 on weekdays. Oh and THEY DELIVER, and they do a damn fine job of it. Every time I've ordered out from them they were punctual and my food was piping hot.

The food tastes good, hell that's not really fair it tastes great, it just lacks that spark. I guess what bugs me is that it's just so similar to so many other restaurants around it. I don't feel like I'm having something I can only get there.

I'm not trying to say the food is lost in some kind of malaise or anything, on the contrary the food is flavorful and very hot. The Curry Veg fried Rice is just a brilliant flying kick in the mouth (think Jean Claude Van Damme in street fighter). I love the textures in the veggies they use in it and they don't hold back on the hotness. The Hunan Chicken and the Shredded Sezchuan Chicken are great too, but identical to their counterparts at 528. The appetizers are nice, but it's nothing I haven't had a quadrillion times.

I don't think I've had a bland meal here and that is downright commendable. But think about it, how personal can you make a place that is so similar to many other restaurants around it?

I truly love this Restaurant, but not for what you would think. It is their consistency through out the five years my husband and I have eaten here, they've never disappointed us! My husband always gets the General Tso Chicken and the spice is just right and the extra sauce is perfect when you mix it with their white rice, plus the broccoli is always cooked just right, crispy and fresh. I've had several of their dishes and I can never finish all of it even though I really want to. They are nothing fancy, but they make great consistent American Chinese food! Also for lunch you get these great comb meals for under $10.

Pretty good food. They also deliver to the surrounding area.

I usually get the Szechuan beef or Szechuan shrimp. The heat level on theses dishes tends to vary a bit from time to time, but it is always tasty. I have sampled a few other menu items over the years, the only bad comment I can think of is the fried rice here is a little too greasy for my taste. I always get the steamed white or brown rice with my entrees.

When this restaurant first opened a few years ago, I had some very average experiences there.  After 3 months, they turned the corner and am I glad that I decided to give them another try.

This IS the best Chinese restaurant in the Galveston-Webster area chop sticks and hands down!!  Great service from a hardworking staff that seem to never take a day off.  This is a very busy place that churns out quality and flavorful creations without skipping a beat.  You will never have to wait longer than 5 minutes for a table.

If you crave hand made pork pan fried dumplings, they create one of the best ones this side of Lai-Lai's Dumpling House off Belaire in China Town.  They are small but delicious.  The dough is hand rolled one at a time (which is why they are a little thicker than most) and the garlic ginger dipping sauce is addictive!!

Chicken with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce that is an OMG dish.  Incredible flavor that is consistently spot on.  Incredible clay pots that pack a punch of heat.  They even have steamed dishes for the heart healthy folks too.

I used to visit Pei-Wei quite a bit before discovering this place. I only wish they had an Udon noodle dish.

Try 888 the next time you are in the area.  You will not be disappointed.

Wow Edgar, thanks for reviewing this place, I actually ate here not too long ago.  I had left my cell phone in a friend's car that lived out in this direction.  So I had to drive out in this area at night and was like is there anything good around here to eat?  We found this place.  It was quite empty when we went inside and the owners were so shocked that there were actually Asian people dining.  They kept smiling as they brought our food out to us.  I ordered like 3-4 dishes that night.  I don't remember anything being that special but nothing being that bad.  The hot claypot seafood was decent and the beef and brocolli was fine also.  Hopefully I won't ever had to be in this area again but if I do I'll make a stop by again.

This is our family's "go to" Chinese restaurant. Our kids will request it by name! I love the service and the fact that the servers remember our family and even the strange way we like to order certain items on the menu. I also enjoy their prompt and affordable delivery service! They deliver for free if you live within so many miles! Yum, Yum is all I can say, I can eat the steamed dishes and not fall off my diet....so momma doesn't feel guilty!

So, we had been past 888 a few times going to the bank, and had been meaning to try it.  Well today, we were very pleasantly surprised by how good it was!  The BF ordered the triple delight clay pot, which had shrimp, scallops, chicken, and various veggies like water chestnut, broccoli, etc.  May have been some mushrooms in there too, I noticed he didn't eat those.  Anyway, it was really good!  Being as I stole some.....ha ha!   The seafood/chicken was really nicely cooked and flavored and of course it was blazing hot coming from the clay pot.  Just enough for him to eat and me to nibble a bit.  The only complaint is they only give one small bowl of white rice, and since he is a serious rice eater he had to ask for more.  Twice :P

I wasn't terribly hungry myself, so I only ordered the small seafood soup and a couple of eggrolls.  The soup was yummy, should have gotten the large.  And though it's marked as one of the spicy things on the menu, it wasn't unbearably hot (however, i really love hot sauce, so you may take that with a grain of salt if you wish).  Eggrolls standard but good.  I had plum wine, I did see they had several Asian beers i.e. sapporo, asahi, tsing tao, as well as wine and soda, juice and stuff.  It's kind of cold and gray here weather-wise right now, so the restaurant wasn't packed but there were several tables filled and the restaurant is very clean and neat, seemed well-staffed and the food came out quickly.  Our server was a bit timid and also wasn't as proactive as I like, seeing as I had to flag her down to get a spoon for my soup.  But overall it was a very good eating experience (the boy seconds this emotion) and we will definitely be going back.

Got a to-go menu, you can also call ahead, place your order online, and they have free delivery with a minimum $10 order.  Oh, and BTW I did notice on the way out that in order to use a credit card in the restaurant you have to have a $5 minimum.

Let me start by saying, I am a fan of both traditional chinese food and americanized chinese food.  I like getting my helping of both depending on my mood.  I was not sure which style 888 was before I walked in.  The lunch special that I had at 888 was a szechuan beef dish in the american style.  It's nothing like the traditional style with the peppercorns, but it was still good.  The ingredients were of good quality, and the portion size was more than enough for lunch.  The quality is worth the visit again compared to other americanized chinese food places.  From what I understand, if you order family-style for dinner, you do have more options for traditional chinese food.  Therefore, I am definitely going back again to try out the traditional stuff.  The service was friendly as well.

The Chicken Curry was not worth the 10 dollars that I paid, it was the same as chicken and vegetibles.  I was looking for a thick sauce with some body to it, of course even the "zing" of a curry was missing.  Very dissapointed.
