I guess I should have read the reviews BEFORE ordering!!!  DO NOT ORDER TAKE OUT FROM HERE!!!!

Not only was the FOOD just BAD...when I called to tell the manager (Mark - I believe), all he did was tell me HOW they make their Kung Pow Chicken and tell me, "I don't know how you've had it...but that's how we make it..."

He NEVER apologized and NEVER offered to make it right.  He told me that I could BRING IT BACK and he'd give me a credit.  I DON'T WANT TO EAT THERE ANYMORE!!!  YOUR FOOD IS GROSS AND YOU MAKE EXCUSES FOR IT!!!

So...I've saved my food.  I'm going to take it to him in a few days when I have time.

If I could give this place a big fat zero I would. I had the worst take out experience ever. the delivery driver over charged me and didnt realize it until after he left. When I called and told them they said they couldnt do anything but give me a BS credit towards my account. And to make matters worst they got my order wrong!!! The food was subpar at best and I will NEVERRRR go here again

Where do I even start with this place? Strike 1 when the delivery boy made it to my house he told me my order was $12.01 so being the good Guy i am i gave him a $2 tip and as soon as i walked in the door i checked the receipt and it said 10.01 so i immediately i went outside to look for the Guy and he must've hightailed it cuz he knew he got over big time. So i got ripped off and ended up paying 14.01 for something that should've been only $10.01 (i should've paid with a debit card so i could dispute it like i do 99% of the time when i go anywhere).Strike 2 Then when i check my order my egg roll wasn't there the only thing in there was my shrimp noodle soup. Then on top of all that i go to there website http://888bistrohousto... and they over charged me for a 2nd time, the shrimp noodle soup is $7.95 on there website but the reciept said $9.25(delivery was free so that was not the reason for the difference ) and with taxes it was 10.01 so when i called to complain the only thing they(Melissa) offered me was a $2 credit (strike 4???) the next time i eat there WTF WOULD I EAT THERE AGAIN AFTER GETTING DELIVERY  FOR THE 1ST TIME AND GETTING RIPPED OFF 4 WAYS?  Absolutely hands down the worst experience I've had out of all the restaurants in Clearlake, maybe even in Houston. Not to mention the udon noodles were very slimy because they put them in an airtight plastic container when they were hot so they got overcooked. If you like good food and good honest service avoid this place at all costs.

I rarely write reviews unless I'm super happy with a restaurant.  888 Bistro satisfied my stomach, and my want for great service.  My waiter was knowledgable about the dishes, as well as history of the restaurant.  All of that satisfied my curiosity.  I like to hear a good story with my food, and I like to know where my food came from.

Being Chinese, they didn't even bother handing me the american menu.  They gave me the Chinese menu without asking, which made me laugh on the inside.

By myself, I order two dishes - Chinese eggplant in a clay pot and Beef on a Sizzling plate.  Both were delicious, and truly authentic.  None of that cookie cutter Pei Wei stuff.

The atmosphere made me feel comfortable and relaxed.  The design on the inside was beautiful and has elements of the traditional and modern.  Even the bathrooms look like they belong in a five star hotel.  The other thing is, this restaurant is CLEAN.  No messes on the food.  The tables weren't greasy.  Chairs are cushioned and the booths were comfortable.

All in all, probably the best Chinese restaurant in Clear Lake.  I look forward to coming back again with friends.

We went to dinner here on a Wednesday night when I didn't feel like cooking.  It is in a large building and decorated nicely.  They have friendly people to greet you at the door and have a separate take out pick up area.

We were seated right away and the place was not busy at all.  BTW, we chose this place based on Yelp reviews.

I ordered the pan fried pork dumplings and had Asahi on tap.  The beer was nice, crisp and cold.  The dumplings were perfectly cooked and so tasty, especially with the accompanying sauce.

My entree was the shrimp lo mein, M ordered sweet and sour pork w/ brown rice.   My lo mein was okay - sorry, but I think Pei Wei lo mein is better than their version, what does that tell you?  The shrimp was the main problem.

This place is located 20 minutes MAX to the gulf coast and they serve frozen mini baby shrimp in their lo mein?!?!?!?!?  Are you kidding me?!?!?  Instead of the dozen mini soggy tasteless shrimp, they could have added 4-5 large grilled/ pan fried prawns and made this dish 100% better!  It was so disappointing that living so close to the coast, this restaurant doesn't bother to get fresh prawns!!

The sweet and sour pork was just like you get any other place, the sauce was served on the side.  Meh.  I can get the same at Panda Express.  The vegetables were red and green pepper and onions which were tender crisp, but no flavor.

In spite of the rave reviews, this place did not win me over.  Won't be back. There has got to be better Chinese food out here!

888 Bistro is flat out awesome. It is the best Chinese food in Clear Lake and maybe anywhere in Houston that I have tried. I have been a few times now. The Mango Chicken in Garlic Sauce was recommended by the waiter on my first visit and it was great. Also, the crab puffs (appetizer) are absolutely amazing.

Just to note, I read in another review -- maybe on urbanspoon or yelp -- someone complained that one of the staff was cleaning up with a rolling sweeper while they were eating and he was annoyed by it. I hadn't seen them pull one out until my last visit. To be annoyed by this is ridiculous. In my opinion, would you rather come into a restaurant and sit at or next to a table that has crap on the floor that someone previously dropped there or be seated in a clean environment? I've worked in the restaurant industry. People make messes. It gets cleaned up unless the place is just sloppy. You don't wait till the end of the day to do it.

Initially went there and ate inside.  Wonderful experience then.  However, I have placed an order online with this place,(three times) and when I go to pick up my order, the cashier has always said "We no have yo order."  .... hmmmph.  Never going back.
They need to check on where the communication drops from placing and order online and when the customer is there to pick it up..

The fried rice and totally delicious and their egg rolls, LOVE THEM!
They do tend to get crowded during lunch and on certain days for dinner as well, so plan accordingly. However, don't let that turn you away! You will deeply regret leaving because of a small wait!

This is seriously my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Clear Lake area.  It's got great ambiance, super nice looking bar area, and trendy bathrooms (LOL).  I also have never had to wait for a table here either.

I always order Mango Chicken because I love the spicy/sweet flavor combination of this dish.  It's not too spicy that I regret having it the next day, unlike the Chen Du (spelling/exact name?) ... holy smoke Batman ... this dish was sooo damn hot that my lips were literally numb.  It tasted great, though, or at least I think it did ... not sure if it did or maybe I had just lost all sense of taste after a few bites.  LOL!!

Hubby always get Moo Goo Gai Pan, which is not on the menu.  There is sometimes a language barrier, when ordering this dish, with a couple of the waitstaff, again, because this isn't on the menu, but they never seem to mess it up.

Oh, I really dig their spring rolls and the orange that they bring at the end of the meal.

Parking lot gets really full, primarily because people eating at the Mexican restaurant across the street will park here and walk over.

Ok so here is my review based on the delivery and food.

I ordered the General Tso's Chicken w/ two egg rolls.

The quality was mediocre but the quantity of chicken was very small for the price. I counted seven pieces total for a "dinner order" of the General Tso's Chicken. I am sorry but I can't justify $14 for a snack portion of food. However, I will say that the egg rolls were the best I've tasted in this area.

    So to sum it up!

Pros: Mediocre quality food, great egg rolls

    Cons: Small portions, expensive

My first review so be kind...

The 888 in Clear Lake is great. My first 888 experience was in Dickinson but I did not enjoy it and that was when I ate meat. Now that I am a vegetarian, I am very tune to eating tofu at any Asian cuisine.

I am big fan of sesame tofu, but only like it from one place - Hoa Hoa - in central Austin in the rundown Dobie mall. I tried the sesame tofu at 888 here in Clear Lake and found it a bit juicy, not as crisp as I liked it. Just last week, I tried their bean curd on sizzling platter with brown rice, and I was amazed. It has the right amount of texture and crisp, without being too saucy. I was in tofu heaven!

Also as an appetizer I had their vegetarian dumplings, which were made well but a little on their cooler side. Someone told me you do not eat dumplings too warm, but I am not completely sure. The only other person who makes dumplings better is my friend Ron who loves cooking asian food. :) He is by far an excellent cook.

The staff was nice as well. Friendly greeting as we entered and left the building. We had a new waiter named Alex who seemed a bit nervous, but he was cute, sweet, and extremely helpful. Request him and he will not disappoint.

    1. You can't really take anyone who prefaces their review with a Britney Spears analogy seriously...

    2. 888 Bistro has probably the most extensive and authentic Chinese menu in Houston. You just have to specifically ask for the Chinese menu. Try the dishes like the 888 Stir Fried Steak, the Homestyle Claypot and/or the Shredded beef or pork with thai pepper and cilantro and THEN tell me the food is only meh.

    3. 888 Bistro has an amazing bar selection and great happy hour and weekly night drink specials. Check them out on Saturdays for live music! $2 for import/domestic beers and well liquor is a pretty darn good deal. Also, the bartenders are very knowledgeable about pairing drinks with dishes and the menu. You might actually have a better experience sitting at the bar than a regular table.

    4. The decor is beautiful on the inside. The prices are sufficient. If you're complaining that $14 is expensive for 1.75 lbs of quality ribeye beef or $9 for for a large plate of just about any dish on the menu, then you probably should stay home and eat because the food is cheap especially considering the atmosphere you're getting when you eat there.

I absolutely love Chinese food, this is the only place I know of in my immediate area that is a NICE Chinese restaurant. I've only ever ordered out from there a few times, but when I go in to pick up my order, the inside is absolutely gorgeous. The only thing I'd change is how short the people who answer the phone are with you. Like, you're interrupting them. I understand though, I work in a restaurant and know how it can be to answer the phone have people waiting on you.

I highly recommend this place and I plan on going there soon to sit down and have the full experience.

As a preface to this review I want you to think about Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, New Coke and every other over-advertised, over-hyped, and over-publicized object in the world. Answer this question - did the object/person live up to that hype? If you answer 'Yes' then you are not going to like this review.

This was the Britney Spears of asian food. When construction started on this place the over-hyping began about how this place was going to blow the doors off PF Chang's, Pei Wei, and whatever other Asian places I like. Such imagery instantly attracted my attention.

I tried the place right after it opened. Wow, it was overhyped. I tried it again a few months later and still nothing really moved me.

Don't get me wrong - the food is eminently edible. The huge television received my full attention as did all the neat design and flashiness on the inside (even though the outside looks like an old army war bunker.)

I just don't get the hype. PF Chang's has much higher food quality, in terms of what I will eat they have a much wider (read: better) selection too.

The nicest thing I can say about 888 is that they leave the hot sauce jar on the table for you to go wild with. I like my hot sauce. Pei Wei makes you get off your ass to walk over to the counter to get the hot sauce. 888 knows I am a lazy person. So, thanks.

My two stars is not to indicate the food was bad in any way. It was just not goodgreatohmygodamazing. It was edible. And it was expensive for what you get. Flashiness of the interior aside, there is no reason why I would come here with a Pei Wei just down the road (Bay Area @ 45.)

My review would probably be substantively different had this place not been overhyped. But I like knocking Britney Spears down a few notches.

    Meh.

They have a HUGE menu... so much to choose from it makes the decisions so hard. They do also have a shorter lunch menu with smaller portion entree, rice, combos.

They are really crowded at lunch so plan accordingly. They tend to have foods taht are saltier than others, but their service is pretty good and their turn around fast. Therefore i still enjoy it here.

I liked their spicy pork cold dish... very spicy but yummy.

Their fried rice is good, but probably not the healthiest.

I also enjoy their clay pot dishes.

Again..such a big menu, you will have to go out their yourseful to take a look!

888 hits pretty close to home in terms of "authentic chinese" food. Sophisticated atmosphere and friendly service. Presentation of meals are classy and served on crisp white plates. Everything is fresh and clean; I've never had a problem with old and smelly (for chicken and seafood) items. The menu is huge and it takes some time to go through everything. I like that the meal is served in a timely manner - even when they're busy.

P.S. Good place for vegetarians, too!

I spend about $50 a week here on delivery and tip their driver $10 each visit. After today I will no longer do so! Rude, rude, rude on the phone. When I told the manager her response was, "OK, bye!" and hung up the phone. Obviously no respect for their customers. Sorry but I won't be treated this way, bye!

Some of the food was great, some was good, some just ok. But the service was very, very bad. My waiter was rude to me ( i still waiting a long time for you) while I was ordering=/

Then he didn't clear a single dish off of our table--even during the happy birthday song--I had all the plates cleared and ready to go--but they stayed--even the appetizer and soup bowls were there until the very end. And I only got one watery tea refill and had to resort to stealing my kids water.

It was very nice and fancy inside, a better place to take a date than a buffet.

I did like that they offer brown rice. I don't recommend the beef dishes as they were very chewy and tough.

Be warned that ordering something spicy means not spicy, but with a ton of thai peppers added in. I seriously had at least a half a cup in the kung pao chicken. But it wasn't spicy unless you wanted to bite into a thai pepper--and then you'd better hope you have some tea...

Everyone is going to think I'm crazy I suppose. These restaurants have a great reputation. I mean GREAT! Flawless. So I do plan to give it a second chance.

General Tso's Chicken - I order this every time I go to a Chinese food joint. Lets just say it wasn't much chicken. It was more breading and crispafied fat. I didn't mind it and I somewhat liked it since I am a lover of fat. However fat is not good for me and I do prefer other places where  the chicken is clearly solid white meat. The flavoring was amazing.

Broccoli and Beef - My husband orders this every time we go to a Chinese food joint. He did not like the flavoring and he said the beef was chewy. For my non picky husband to say the beef was chewy is alarming.

We did leave there saying we would never go back. However, since then I have had so many people say "oh have you tried 888" that my husband and I will give it a second go. I will update my review once we do.

My traveling companion and I really didn't anticipate how exhausted we would be by the time we got up early, flew from Dallas to Houston, ate at Star Pizza, walked and shopped through the entire Galleria and then made it down to our Hotel.  But by the time we put our bags in the room, there was no question in our mind that there was no way we were going back out for dinner.  Delivery it would be.

We ordered way more food than we could have ever finished, but we wanted a variety.  All of it was delicious and seriously better than any of the take out Chinese that we had been able to find in our neck of DFW.

If you are in a hotel on Nasa Road 1, or just sitting at home wanting some good Chinese... try 888 Bistro.

You really have to get the Chinese Menu to truly enjoy this place.
I recommend the fish in spciy oil (I believe it's #25 on the Chinese menu), it's very spicy, and very oily, but soooo good!

On the regular menu, i would go with the smoke duck appetizers, and mango chicken.
some of their food is a bit on the greasy side, and their soup is just ok.
I wouldn't get the Kung Pao chicken, too much chili peppers.

Not sure what the hell these guys put in their base restaurant brown sauce but it's always yummy and addictive.  That plus the full bar, modern bistro atmosphere, and great staff makes me go back for more.

Vanessa M. does have a point though.  Their fried beef type items do seem to have a lot of the fat left in.  It tastes great but combined with the beef cubes being covered in batter and deep fried doesn't make a good combination for my arteries and shrinking love handles.

Just wrote a review on their Gulf Gate branch, so I gotta show my Clear Lake one some love.

They have 3 Restaurants, one here, one in League City and one near Gulf Gate Mall. This is the newest opening and also the best decor. It has a nice bar area with some nice HD TVs if you ever want to catch a Rockets game.

The Chinese menu is the money shot here, and if you can't read Chinese but enjoy authentic Chinese food over the although-delicious but routine sesame chicken, ask the waiter for the chinese menu and for them to recommend something, you can't go wrong!

My parents love Chinese food, and they eat there maybe 3 times a week! Just writing this review and thinking about their menu is making me hungry. Go there for lunch!

    Food
The food here is very delectable.  I had the Daily Deluxe Stir Fried Steak (D12), which came with wonton soup and fried rice.  The steak was a bit chewy, but very flavorful and the sauce was very rich.  The vegetables were very delicious:  stir fried egg plant with asparagus and bell peppers.  There was a perfect balance between the vegetables, steak, and sauce.  The wonton soup is very sweet and rich in flavor, with the wonton cooked perfectly.  The fried rice was perfect: crispy and appetizing.  I also have had previous times the Honey Steak (D9)  which is very appealing to the taste buds.  The sauce is very sweet, the steak is cooked perfectly, and there is a perfect balance of vegetables, steak, and sauce.

    Service
The service here was a bit slow.  It took a long time for the food to come out and the waiter did not come around to often.  It took a long time to get silverware that was needed.  On our first time here, the wait took about an hour even though the hostess said it would only take 35 minutes.  What's up with that?  And DO NOT DO DELIVERY, unless you need food and don't have a ride.  The service for delivery is terrible.  The employee on the phone said the food would only take about 45 minutes to arrive, but I waited for over 2 hours until the manager came to my door with an excuse that Mapquest showed a different side of the city.  Seriously, if you type in an address with the exact zip code and subdivision that the customer told you, how could you get lost?  The lady even repeated the directions to my house before the delivery was made.

    Atmosphere
The restaurant is very beautiful on the inside with many modern decorations.  It is pretty crowded at around lunch time because they do pretty good business.  The outside of the restaurant is very beautiful and castle-like.  The restaurant is more of an American-Chinese restaurant rather than an Authentic Chinese restaurant.

I gave a 3 star rating since 2.5 wasn't available. I've eaten here four times and two out of four have been great meals. The two great meals were both the Garlic Mango Chicken. I can recommend that dish all day long, along with their egg rolls. The crab puffs are fine, but I've had better.

The fried chicken dishes, like Sesame Chicken and Orange chicken are NOT great. For a $10 dish I was expecting white breast meat like you would get at other comparable restaurants.  Instead it was dark meat chicken of questionable quality and fat content.  Kinda chewy, gross and greasy with a strong meaty flavor.  Not my idea of a good dish.

The honey black pepper beef was okay but not great.  It had a sort of livery taste to the meat which was less than ideal.

The ambience is good, and if you pick the right dish you will be pleased.  So, ask your server first if the dish you are interested in is white or dark meat if you have a preference.

This is good. My favorite Chinese restaurant by far! The place is always packed so we usually order take out from there. I don't know if its just me, but I think they give you a little more when you get it to go. The pork fried rice is the best!

Love this sister restaurant to 888 (the original restaurant of this growing chain)...

The decor in this installation exceeds the ambience of its predecessors with all the same fixings (and no discernable pick-up in price....yeah!!!)

Loved the majority of their food - claypots, tofu platters, kung poa chicken, etc...

My only nit picks are on their soups....(the only reason I wouldn't give it a five star).....consistently, the soups have been a bit subpar, and less imaginative than the rest of the dishes.  As an example, the won-tons are a bit "doughier" than one would normally like and lack the flavor of ingredients for a five star restaurant.

That being said, both I and the other geek in the pod visit this haunt at least once a month and have never left disappointed.

    Some of our favorite dishes:

    Curried Chicken/Shrimp Claypot
    Pan-fried Pork dumplings
    Kung Poa Chicken
    General Tsao's Tofu
    Cheng Du Chicken
    Fish & Hot Bean Paste

Service, is always superb and diligent.

So if you are looking for good chinese food, and want something several notches above take-out...than make this a staple of your Eastern diet.

So I heard about this place, read the reviews and had beef tripe on the brain so I went here today. I have been to the original 888 Chinese restaurant with some of my Chinese coworkers and tried some items off of the Chinese menu the Ox  Tongue & Tripe and the  Seafood and Abalone Soup. My son wanted the beef and broccoli recipe. Although I expected the 888 Bistro to have just as spicy dishes as the 888 on Winkler Road, I was not disappointed.

Best Chineese food in Houston.  We eat here all the time and also get delivery.  The Chineese menu has great options and the staff is friendly and accommodating.  This is my go-to place for consistently good Chineese.

888 Bistro is great... I've never had a bad experience with this restaurant, here or at any of the other locations.. (one I've been in Dickinson)
Inside, the decor is stylish. You wouldn't really think so from the outside, but here you feel like you are in one of the finer inner city restaurants. The staff is attentive, friendly.
Where 888 really wows me is on delivery.. Each time the order was correct and earlier than expected. They redid their lunch menu which I was excited about because before they had some unusual choices 'Mango Chicken?' Maybe some other time, but... I like the option being there, however I tend to stick to my usual favorite dishes..Kung Pao, General Tsos.. Some days I feel like venturing out and trying new dishes, but 8/10 times I order the Kung Pao and I want it spicy! They do it so well here!
Their food is awesome, perfectly spicy to me... Although some of my coworkers say a little too spicy for their taste.
This is one of my fave Chinese spots, hands down.

Hands down the best Take-out/Delivery Chinese food around.  I have never ordered a dish that I wasn't pleased by.  (I have yet to eat in but it's on the list of things I would love to do) The Delivery is always prompt and fast and when taking-out always given a good time to show up for walk in and walk out.

The only suggesting to work on it your Online ordering system.  2 out of the 3 times I have ordered online they never received the order and so it took far longer to get the food, but I mostly order from phone so thats is solved for me.  But still give it 5 stars cause who cares about online ordering when you have such a great place as it is.

One of the best places in town! The wait staff is always friendly and they've got an awesome bar with a good beer selection.
