WOW! t-shirts galore!!!
if i walked into this store about 2-3 years ago, i would've blown every penny in my bank account on these cute shirts. now i'm trying for the girly look :)
they got some cheap dresses if you look hard enough or if the time is right, so my friend said. cute accessories. decently priced. if i'm ever in waikiki, i may check it out again.
I'm disappointed by both the price and selection..
this place has the trendy feel with out anything trendy but the 30$ plus price for a t-shirt ...
I'm sticking to the interwebs for my t-shirt selection...

My Opinion/Story:
This is a cute store with cute items but expensive. I was able to find a shirt in their clearance rack so I got two shirts and scored a cute shopping bag to go with it. You have to be some rich tourist to be able to afford the items in this store. I'm more of the bargain shopper so I don't care much for high price tags. This place does attract alot of people and it's nice to be able to say that you've visited this spot. Other than that, I think this place is too pricey.
Clothing here is cute and like what others said, hard to spot outside of Hawaii. Certain items may be pricey like the Adidas bags and the Junk Food tees, but the 88 Tees merchandise is usually quite affordable.
The only thing that kinda bothers me is that sometimes when I go there, I get stared at (in both a good way and bad) and it may feel awkward that 90% of the people in the store are Japanese, so it helps to go with a friend or two. A friend of mine used to work there and apparently the manager says to be on the lookout for "non-japanese" people because they may steal something, no lie.
A must if you're in Waikiki.
The designs are cute and the selection is pretty great.
The canvas bag that you get with your purchase is a plus.
i LOVE this cute store! you can find TONS of tee's here....but beware that this is a vintage STYLE not authentic vintage t-shirts. i guess this place is pretty popular among the japanese tourists/celebrities. there are tons of pics of them on the wall. the feel of the shop is that there is a HUGE pile of tshirts in the middle 4-5 tables and you have to search through them kinda like how it is at a sample sale. if you like a tshirt, good luck trying to find it in a different size. the plus of this is that you probably will not run into a girl who has the same tshirt on anywhere especially outside of hawaii.
oh! and they put your items in a small fabric tote bag which is a nice touch =) definitely will be back..
The no-try signs are still up, both in the Kalakaua and Kuhio stores. That didn't keep the Kalakaua location from having piles of, well, tees. Not neat piles of tees, either. It looked like a rummage sale. I didn't see anyone trying on the tees, either on the floor or in the fitting room.
Oh well, so I can't try on a tee shirt. Nothing will fit my belly right now unless it is maternity so I checked out the infant and keiki tees. For $16 to $29, I think not. Super cute logos but our baby will just outgrow it or seriously stain it, so I'll save my $$.
I was also bummed that their selection of bags weren't as cute this time around.

The no-try policy for tees bugs me because I really wanted to check out some of their cute shirts.… Read more »
This is super popular with the Japanese visitors.
I think the characters (lulu, yaya etc) are cute, but not really $29++ cute
I bought a t-shirt for my cousin coz she had been dying to have one...and i got a semi-comfy long sleeve one for myself.
the sizes run small
Would never buy i if i still lived in HI, but hey...thought i'd stimulate the Waikiki economy a little...
i like this store i get alot of my tshirts here. they have alot of vintage stuff here . i love the kute hello kitty stuff they have there too :)
Um no. I will literally walk out on a date if she is wearing a trendy/cute/ironic t-shirt. I understand it has nothing to do with how nice she is, but it does have something to do with class.
The 88 tees here may be "cute," but are you willing to spend 50+ dollars for a t-shirt?
...i'm not.
I sure as hell envy those who spend their money freely.
Damnit. I just found a coupon on their website for 10% off. I just came back from this place!
Anyways. 88 Tees is one of my absolute favorite things about Hawai'i. They used to be a hidden gem of Waikiki, but it seems everyone knows about them and they're doing pretty well because they have two more locations open in Waikiki now.
This particular location is really obscure from the outside. All you see is a doorway, leading to stairs with license plates from all states nailed to the steps. The walls on the inside are plastered with pictures of fobby tourists and celebrities, mostly Japanese. This place totally caters to the Japanese FOB: overpriced and KAWAII! *peace sign, palm out (not palm in, because that's a gangster peace sign)* The place is crammed wall to wall with adorable overpriced things.
I was able to find the one tee that was less than $20 in the store. Mostly everything is around $30. My bf just went hog wild and got a couple tees, some on the cheeky side. One was a picture of a drum set, captioned, "I love to bang." Awesome. Who knew?
They have a weird assortment of labels. Lots of their stuff is 88 Tees brand, but they also have surf labels like Split and Volcom and some overpriced foreign stuff I've never heard of. They also got some Paris Hilton stuff, rad Adidas, trucker hats (so two years ago). Oh, and they have a grip of True Religion crap.
My coworker saw a kid wearing a pair of True Religions and asked me what a twelve year old needs with a $250 pair of jeans. My rebuttal: what does anyone need with a $250 pair of jeans.
Anyways, get the coupon from the website before you go.
sure I paid $29 for a screen print tee, but I also got to shop alongside 18 year old japanese tourists squealing with delight as they ransacked the tables for cool t-shirts. I loved seeing the paris hilton brand of clothing - "SO CUTE" as they say in japan. also, I think I saw the diamond-studded Hello Kitty jewelry line. a very cool shop, tucked away in a loft - if I hadn't been carrying the cursed half papaya from Henry's Place I could have shopped a lot harder.
If you read my American Rag Cie SF review, I mention Osaka's famous vintage stores. If you ever want to get a glimpse of the insanity of collectorism, maniacs, otaku, etc. duck up the stairs separating Prada from Gucci and Rolex and you will find a slice of Japanese style American vintage clothing stores. $300 (and up!) jeans, vintage tees and woven tops... really a slice of americana in absolutely prisitine condition... the Japanese way.
They take Yen, I don't even think they speak English here, it's about as authentic Osaka America-mura as you can get.
When I was in Hawaii on my senior trip of high school, we went shopping one day and came across this shop. Its such a cool little surf boutique. I bought a really cute tee here and it has a map of honolulu on the back.
I definitely miss this store. And this beautiful state.
Cute

That's all I can think of when 88 Tees pops into my head.
They have everything from vintage old school adidas, puma, vintage accessories as well as new top brands.
After a very long and hard debate over what I actually want I settled for an awesome Rebel Yell hoodie.
It ended up being the only thing I got in Hawaii.
The staff here is great too!
Seems like the other reviewers understate the cool factor of 88 tees. They cater almost exclusively to luxe japanese teens and the environment inside is like a Gwen Stefani solo album video, including signed photos of hip hop luminaries like Kanye West, Ludacris, Russel Simmons. They also carry paris hilton's line of clothes: great halloween costume alert!!
It's hard to not be tempted to spend a lot of $$ shopping when the tax here is only 4.5%!
My gf and I purchase a total of $250 worth of items from here... soooo worth the penny though... I got cute sweaters that were on sale for $29... jeans for $87 regular priced....accessories (sunglasses, necklaces, earrings, etc) that range from $5-$70... and tons of cute tees...
The girls that were working here speaks English rather fluently... not sure if one of them was the owner.. but she was really friendly and helpful and even allowed my gf to try on one of the shirt (they have a no try policy on their shirts) before the purchase.
Dont miss this shop when you visit Waikiki (it's on the second floor... it's not really noticeable when you're walking along the side... but I believe it's in between a ramen shop and the ABC store)...
Overall, they have tons of bargain items... and a huge selection of men and women's clothings and accessories... Judging from the pictures posted on their walls... A lot of celebrities have frequent their stores... including J-pop queen Ayumi!
What the heck is that place next to Coldstone? Whoa, cool yakuza going in there. Better check this place out.
Whoa how did I get back to SF so quickly? Or is this Japan? This place takes major style cues from Japanese Hipsters. They carry lots of the American Brands and lots of Vintage wear from ?. Your guess is good as mine. Their branded tees are pretty unique and take their style cues from everybody from Stussy to Ed Hardy.
88 Tees would be the more exciting and active clothing shop in Waikiki! Not only with three locations, but all of them are packed with many new and vintage style clothing!
From Jeans, Mens, Womens, and Kids clothing this store has much more to offer when you walk up the staircase in the Kalakaua location. With the music pumping and the ambient setting it has a very cool atmosphere.
Most of the shirts are all great for partying or just everyday wear and gifts. They even have some name brand goods like PUMA, Adidas, and more!
There are times when the clothes are everywhere because some of them customers throws them around, but they are usually oragnized in shelves from Mens to S-XL and Ladies S-L. Some shirts are from $50~$80 in average. They also try to keep a lot of shirts that are new in design on the floor as soon as possible.
Forgot to mention too, they have a small amount of lighters, and jewelry accesories available too.
We were in Hawaii for a week, and we literally visited 88 tees almost every day!
This place is BOMB! There's some vintage clothing that were around and cute tees that were everywhere. I bought a couple of things and found some skirts and shirts that were less than 10 bucks!
After your purchase they would put all your items in this cute tote bag which i use now for school and such things. It's cute...EVERYTHING IS CUTE
I so wish that they had a store here in the OC...so they can take my money
Good spot to find vintage tees in Hawaii. My only major complaint is you cant try on shirts and the lack of XL shirts that fit me. The prices are on the high side for me, but we are in Hawaii right by the beach so I figure their rent is mucho $$$. All in all a nice spot to pick up some cool tees and accessories.
Surprisingly cool store located in a nondescript building on the famous Waikiki shopping strip. Known for their trend setting t-shirts and vintage wear its retail heaven. Some of the pricing was confusing. Many items are not tagged so I kept having to ask for prices. Towards the back of the store there were some pretty neat purses but again I was put off by the no tag problem. Another confusing detail is the pricing signs on the walls. You get to a tag and its different from the pricing on the wall. ????? So other that issue its a great shop comparable to a store you would find in Japan or on Melrose Ave in L.A.
For those looking for something other than the typical Hawaiian shirts they offer in Waikiki (aloha, hawaiian warrior, surfing brands i.e Roxy), then this is the place for you. Mixing anime-ish graphics featuring their hula girl mascot Yaya and vintage hawaiian surf aesthetic, 88 Tees strikes the perfect balance that resonates with aloha. shirts are pretty cheap (All less than $30), and carry sizes for men, women, and children. They also have accessories(bags, blankets, cell phone charms). Despite that, the location of the store is hard to find, and it can be a chore to rummage through the clothes.
I think some of their shirts are cute, but they're $25! Grr.....I ended up getting one shirt...and this REALLY cute phone key chain with stars on it.
Go here if you're tired of seeing Hawaiian print everywhere and need some variety. They have an assortment of stuff, like lots of funky shirts with funny sayings ("Take me to the bank cuz I'm money"), trendy labels like Primp, Sperry, and Free People, and plenty of designer denim. But ladies, if you're over a size 26 waistline, forget about shopping for jeans here. Only the tiniest sizes to be found.
I liked finding old Hawaii license plates there, and their signature 88 Tees hats were pretty cool.
