We stopped in this place fro dinner on are way into VA from NJ

It seems they were a little short on servers that night, but made up for it with the friendliness and the food.

    Recommend the Yukaechang.....

great service. was pretty empty when my girl and i came to get our eats on around 10 at night.

the waitress/chef? was very accomadating and provided us with everything we wanted.

the food is pretty expensive compare to the korean restaurants in LA.

I order the bim bap and the kim chi pan cake both were pretty good.

thank god this place opens pretty late.

This restaurant had a remodeling some years back. The setup definitely looks great even though it's been quite some time. The parking is convenient and big but the big dip on the side entrance is pretty deep. I hate driving through it...I always drive into it sideways.

The food here is good and the server/waitresses are nice. The best dish that they have is...the Korean fried chicken. Someone posted a picture of it (Fattymoocow L). The galbi and mok sal (pork neck bone meat) is good here. The mul naeng myun has its good days and bad days there but it's usually decent. Now it's not made straight out of the noodle machine but it's good since it's Richmond, VA.

88 Garden has dishes that stand out from Korean Garden. Well, they have to since they are down the street from each other. Both restaurants have their good dishes.

The atmosphere is good like any other family restaurant. I like the interior designs on the walls. It has multiple fans for the Korean bbq. The food is good and the price is cheaper compared to other places.

Oh yea...can't forget that it has a karaoke room(pretty ghetto looking) but you can't expect much from RVA.

The owners there are great. The ahjuhshi is real nice and always dressed up for golf and the ahjuhmah is real nice too and always have that white chef outfit. They like to talk to customers when they have the opportunity to (at least every time I come).

All in all...good food and good people. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Real authentic food, nice chef and awesome service. I had been visiting the northern Virginia to get Korean restaurant, but now I don't need to get there up anymore since 88 garden is cheaper than some koreatown restaurants in Annandale and solid authentic food.

The food here is pretty solid.  I really loved the kim chi chee ge (kimchee soup).  Some of the best I've had really.  The korean chicken wings are delicious, although really expensive (12 for $16).  The tables have built in grills for all your meat cooking needs and the service is friendly.  I wouldn't hesitate to come back to get my Korean food fix.

Very good Korean food, and pleasant staff.  It's been a while since I was here, but the bi bim bap was great.  I'd like to go back, soon.

I am spoiled as I used to live in the SF Bay Area and then Northern Virginia which is home to the second largest Korean-American population after LA, but regardless this restaurant is meh.  The collection of small plates that Korean restaurants serve with your meal was paltry and was mostly heavily pickled radishes that tasted like they had been in a jar for a long time.  No classic cabbage kimchi, either.  My bi bim bop was uninspiring with dried out bits of meat sitting atop white rice.  The fried egg on top was the only part worth remembering.  If you're committed to Korean, save your money for a trip north to Annandale.

It's just ok. The quality is definitely a notch down from Korean Garden down the street.
I almost got my ja jang myun, but they didn't have the noodles! So close.

Foods cheaper and the quality corresponds with less flavor, but can fulfill your craving.

First off, I have to say that I am bit biased as my hometown is Northern VA and there are MANY Korean restaurants there that compete with one another. That being said, 88 Garden is pretty good. Sadly, there aren't many Korean restaurants near Richmond....but the community is growing.

88 Garden looks a bit run out from the outside, but it looks nice on the inside. There's a full bar and several tables with grills in them for you to BBQ on. The waitress I always run into is very friendly and although her English is a bit choppy, she understood what I wanted every time.

For lunch, their lunch box is the best! You basically get to try a bit of all their most popular dishes. As for dinner, I like to get the Jam Pong (I like spicy noodles). I haven't had a chance to try much of anything else yet as this is a 30minute drive for me...and sadly they don't have a menu you can take home.

Young Bin is often mentioned as the other Korean Restaurant (just a few blocks down on the same road) and while both have their own strengths...I have to say that 88 Garden is cheaper for the same quality. Young Bin has more items on their menu though.

In any case, I'd highly recommend stopping by 88 Garden if you're in town and craving Korean food.

On a recent trip from Maryland to Williamsburg, two Korean-American families of nine decided to eat a late lunch at 88 Garden, and we were more than grateful that we had chosen this restaurant.

Even though we showed up at 2:30 p.m -- which is usually a dead time for many restaurants -- the hostess seemed thrilled to greet and seat us, and the owner also came out from the kitchen to welcome us. I had the Korean lunch box  which included rice, bulgogi (strips of marinated meat), two pieces of mandu (dumplings) and two chicken wings. The wings were amazing because they had been cooked in soy sauce, which was the way my mom used to cook them for my brother and me when we were growing up.

My wife ordered soon dubu jigae (tofu soup with seafood), and she said it was delicious. My five-year-old daughter loves mool naengmyun, and she didn't raise her head from the bowl for a good 10 minutes. My wife and I agree that you can tell a restaurant cares about its naengmyun when it puts slices of pear in the bowl, which is what 88 Garden did.

The banchan was delicious and consistently replenished by the hostess. And the owner playfully joked with each of the five children at the table and made us feel more than welcomed. We love 88 Garden and will return!

Best Korean food in the Richmond area. The menu is huge, and there are some misses, but overall the food is very good, although not on the par of Washington D.C. or NY Korean restaurants. Definitely go the the BBQ, try the galbi. The Korean Fried Chicken is a must have as well! The seafood pancakes are a great addition as well.

The staff itself is friendly and welcoming. Overall, a great addition.

I've lived in K-town LA for 4 years and enjoy all the dishes at 88 Garden.   The prices are definitely more expensive than LA.  The place is friendly and welcoming.  The owner is also the chef, who comes out and visits often with the customers.  She is so friendly and never forgets a face.

The side dishes usually make or break a place and the side dishes definitely make this place.  They have their own garden in the back so the sides consist of organic vegetables grown by themselves.  It really makes a difference in taste and individuality.
The kal-bi (marinated beef) is yummy, gal-bi tang (beef soup) is right on, bibimbap (stir fried rice, korean style) is perfect.  Everything on the menu is authentic and good.  There will never be a problem with not ordering the right thing.
If you do the Korean bbq, be prepared to share and smell like meat when you leave.

excellent authentic(serving the small but growing korean community in that area) korean food in southside richmond,    hospitality one of the best, service a bit slow but worth the wait as they put a lot of time and proficiency in making your order right.  they have a very large selection of noodle soups dishes.  The size of the portion of the dishes are very large.

while you wait, if you are fan of finger foods, try their KFC (korean fired chicken) is an excellent appetizer, long with fresh made kim-bop.

As a newcomer to Richmond, I noticed what a rarity Asian restaurants were. I was looking for an authentic Asian restaurant, not one that pretends to be authentic and serves tater tots on their menu.. I'm looking at you "Sticky Rice."

88 Garden is a rare jewel in Richmond and I highly recommend this place! The waiters were super friendly and helpful. The food was authentic and really hit the spot for a girl homesick for the Korean food in LA.

I got the bibimbap which was delicious! Bf got the dubu jjigae (spicy seafood soup) and he got it super spicy which is no joke!

At the end of our meal, we were given Sikhye which is a cold rice dessert drink. This is my first time having it ever and it was so refreshing! It was sweet with ginger.

A little pricey which is not new news when it comes to Korean food, but it was a bargain if you compare it to the prices for Korean food in LA.

This is the place you want to take someone who has never had Korean food (in Richmond). Yes, it's not like Koreatown in LA, but close enough. Since some meals start at $20, it's best to share them. I shared the bulgogi and was stuffed AND we still had leftovers.
If you're looking for something different then go here..it's worth the drive out to Midlothian.

I went to 88 Garden for dinner last night. The first thing I noticed was that it was quite expensive (or maybe I'm just really cheap). The cheaper BBQ items were in the high teens to low 20 dollar range. While this isn't a ton of money, it felt a little heavy for what we got.

Also, the service was really unfriendly. When I asked the waitress if myself and a friend could split one of the plates, she looked at me as if I had just stolen her first born. Which I can assure you I did not do.

The food itself was good, not great, but good. Also not good enough to bring me back when there are so many other awesome restaurants out there.

Staff is friendly and always make sure you have everything you need at your table at all times. I usually order the pork belly, kalbi, seafood pancake and sometimes the spicy tofu soup. The prices are much higher than the Northern VA establishments. However, nothing beats their hospitality. I adore the ladies that run the restaurant.

Wonderful authentic Korean food in an unlikely location. If you can brave the Midlo, its worth it. Only a few miles from Westover Hills/ Forest Hills area.

I had a spicy seafood noodle and it was delicious and filling. I even took some home with me.

There is also Korean BBQ there. I am definitely having that next time.

I hate it give it two stars but I've already been here twice and I keep saying, is this really Korean food?!!  I'm Korean myself so I know how it should taste.  First time I ordered gam ja tang and it was so different and very greasy, I had to return it.  Fortunately, the owner was nice enough to exchange, so I ordered Soon Du Bu and they made it so spicy, I could hardly taste the flavor.    Today I had craving for Korean again so I thought I'd give it one more chance, since people gave such great reviews.  I ordered jam pong and it taste nothing like jam pong, and they didn't even use the right noodle.  I couldn't eat it so I decide to pay for another dish and ordered kim chi chee gae, and it was very average.  I think this is it, after two attempts, I'm not returning...  I have to say, though, customer service is excellent and staff are so nice.  Maybe their bbq is the way to go...

The only place that I can find that does Korean BBQ in Richmond and it's very good. When those days when I'm in the need of some spicy pork and bulgogi 88 Garden have never disappointed me and they save me from long drive to Nova to get some. I had a birthday dinner here and the wait staff was great taking care of my fourteen people party. All the food came out in a timely fashion, placed us in our own private room, and they even threw in some rice milk at the end. This place is really great a little more expensive then up North but when you got a craving these people do it right.

Native of Maryland, with frequent trips to NoVa restaurants, visiting Richmond on business so I searched Yelp for a good Korean place. Could not be more pleasantly surprised, authentic cuisine properly cooked with a comfortable atmosphere. The staff was excellent with quick service and the entree and bon chon were great. The menu has some depth and I saw a few dishes which I rarely see in Annandale or Fairfax establoishments. Going back to sample the bulgogi or maybe kalbhi if I can get some coworkers to tag along.
