Review from Robert C.
Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, CA
So although this isn't in one of the prettiest areas, I was passing by on my way home from work when I came over with a craving for some fried rice. Deciding to give it a chance after having driven past it a million times on my way out of Target, I was really impressed by the quality given the price!
I'm very self-conscious about what I eat so seeing that they had BROWN fried rice made my day! I ordered the combo fried rice which included shrimp, the big ones, not the little rinky dink popcorn style; pork; chicken; and egg all for $9.78! Woo hoo! Can't beat that especially considering that the portion was huge enough that I saved part for lunch the following day.
I haven't tried anything other than the fried brown rice, but I'll definitely be back at some time just for the fact that they serve brown fried rice for such a great price without skimping on the quality! -

A tiny place that I thought would taste better than it looked--that's how much Chinese places are like here in Cali that I've experienced. But in this instance, that was not the case. Ordered orange chicken, pork lo mein, and braised green beans--I've had better at Panda, fo'realz!!
Not that it was horrible, but it shouldn't taste like something I would've made at home (NOTE: I'm inexperienced in the ways of Asian cooking). First, the orange chicken tasted like something I've made on the stove from a frozen food package I got at Trader Joe's; second, the pork lo mein had like 7 tiny pieces of pork mixed in 5 lbs of spaghetti-looking noodles; and finally, the green beans were at least decent.
Had used one of those http://restaurant.com gift certificates there--even with the discount, I wouldn't go back. I'd rather pay full price at Sam Woo (down the street) for 50 times better tasting food. Hmm... come to think of it now, I feel as though I should go there tonight because maybe it'll somehow make-up for the not good experience? Hahahaha... -

If you want a place where you get a lot of food for your money, then this is the place for you. Stopped by to get some sushi and for about $40 you can easily feed 3 people . The rolls were alright but everything sushi is really bland and definitely a lower quality fish than higher end sushi joints. The people were really friendly and we saw someone order Chinese food and it looked really good. Going to maybe try one more time for the Chinese but the sushi is just not good.

Tried this place a few days ago for the first time. It's a small place, but it's not bad at all. We got the wonton soup and chicken fried rice. Both really good. :) The services was really good too. When we got our soup order the lady served our first servings for us which was really nice. Most places don't do that. A lot of the times you get the soup and you serve yourself, but I thought it was really cool how it was done for us. The rice with the soup went well together during a chilly night. It's too bad they don't deliver to our place. Will definitely go back next time. :)

Cream cheese wontons for the win! Way better than any standard crab rangoon. OMG so good.
I got the crispy pan-fried chicken noodles... not a big fan of that, but I think it's just the nature of the dish. I'm definitely going to go for the lo-mein next time.
Previously I have gotten the orange chicken and I liked that a lot.
As others have said the sushi is okay, but I only eat it if I HAVE to have sushi and everywhere else is closed. I LOVE that they are open so late. -

Amazing Teriyaki Chicken!
Great Orange Chicken!
Very good Sweet & Sour Chicken!
Fantastic egg rolls! Very fresh!
Yummy almond cookies!
Deserves the star upgrade. It's not a great atmosphere experience but definitely my favorite take out/delivery place for taste and value.
My most recent order:
1 Almond Cookies service @ $2.50
1 Egg Rolls service (2) @ $4.49
1 Special Fried Rice (huge) service @ $7.99
1 Teriyaki Chicken (huge) service @ $10.29
+ Tax @ $2.46

Come here last night for dinner...
There were 6 of us and we were immediately seated at our regular table. The lady knows us because we come here fairly regularly.
She is actually flying to China today and so last night she decided to treat us for free sake.... Cool huhh...
Anyways,
We ordered the usual; Cashew chicken, Orange chicken, Orange tofu (which no other restaurant seems to have/ make. know what I am on about!!! Its frigging delish!!), Vegetable noodles and that tepura vegetable thing...
All of our dishes came out quick... It was super delish and fresh... Everything tasted amazing... I still am surprised with how large the portions are.. I swear I have left overs for 2 more days... hahaah....
So I don't know why others are knockin off the food here.. It's really really good and the service here is always friendly.....Listed in: SFV ( the good, the bad, the…, Places I shouldn't enjoy…

Just moved to the area...so trying to find a good Chinese delivery place is a must. Ordered the usual chow mein, orange chicken, cream cheese wontons, and dumplings. Food was delivered fast and cheap, the lady that took the order spoke good english and was very clear.
I was surprised at the portion sizes vs. the price.
But was disappointed when the chowmein was just noodles and chicken, no veggies nothing else and it was bland. Same with the orange chicken. The best thing we got was the wontons, they were delicious and the dumplings were so-so.
I will try this place again, maybe go inside and eat in to check it out. -

Mogonlian beef was decent.. Had much better before. Even tried the Sushi and was a little better !!! They are nothing home to write home about but provide a decent dinner

The food here was actually pretty good! I was skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered steamed dumplings, generals chicken and chicken lo mein. I didn't really care for the chicken in the lo mein but everything else about the food was great! Just the right amount of spice in the generals chicken and the dumplings had a lot of flavor, the sauce with it was a bit salty, but I enjoyed it!
We had it delivered and it was a lot faster than it had anticipated so that was nice. Overall I enjoyed it and I will definitely order from them again. The portions were huge! -

Just ordered food for our lunch mtg from here and they were amazingly prompt at getting it here before 11:30, which of course was very pleasing after the experience we had with the place last wk. So as far as customer service they get a full 5 stars.
As for the food... it was good. Just good. Nothing extraordinary, but I will definitely eat here again. We all ordered different things and shared so I had a little bit of everything. It was yum! Good sushi, good kung pao, good veggie noodles, yummy orange chicken and my fortune cookie had the best statement so overall it was a great experience. I'm looking forward to trying more of this place. -

NOTE: Deliver in a 3.5 mile radius till midnight. And that's what I gave HK88, a 3.5
I dunno what to think of this place.
I drive past it everytime I go to Target or Bevmo and I always tell myself "Kevin, you just need to try this place". So the other day I did.
I was first greated by a chinese lady watching youtube videos on her phone (very loud but apparently funny) and then served by a white lady with a persian accent, very nice mind you, but not what I expected from a JapaChinese place.
The sushi was ok, not pretty but on the plate and the Chinese food was something that I think I could have made from a jar :-/
I was polite but I don't think this is a place that I'll be making special trips, BBBBBbbbbut, on the off chance I feel like having sushi delivered then I'll be calling this place, I mean they deliver till midnight!
Enjoy.
p.s. parking sucks here, small shared lot, best to park on the street and walk. -

Some of the worst Chinese food I have ever had.
I ordered delivery with a bunch of friends and we were disappointed by everything....the ONLY plus was that the delivery was quick, but unfortunately we wanted the food gone even quicker.
Egg drop soup: water thickened with corn starch + some eggs...completely tasteless/bland/inedible
Spring rolls: mushy, bitter, undercooked
Dumplings: hard, burnt, absolutely no flavor in the filling
General Tsao's: not sure how it's possible to screw this one up, but it was narsty....sticky, gloppy, bland
Mongolian Beef: same as above....
Beef & Broccoli: oily and gross
Fried rice: ....was not actual fried rice. where were the onions/peas/carrots...? And where were the egg bits? This was basically white rice turned brown with a few sparse strands of eggs running through it. NOT good!
Overall, a pretty wretched meal. I couldn't wait to clean it all up and send it down the trash chute. Never again! -
Review from Dev C.

This place is cool for everyday grinds if you're looking to switch up your routine. I recommend the steamed fish with salted black beans. Use it to flavor your white rice.
Something unique here is the char siu (roast pork) egg foo yung.. It's over an inch thick and covered with brown gravy. Kinda resembles the top layer of a loco moco, which earns recommendation points.
This place is open til 2am on weekends. Deliveries included. -
Review from Sara L.
This was the first time I have ordered from here. I work night so the late deliver was a pretty high mark on my list.
We ordered some Hot & Sour soup, Pan Fried Dumplings, Chicken Lo Mein, and Spicy Garlic Chicken.
The Hot & Sour soup was good but missing on the spicy, the Pan Fried Dumplings were alright and the filling was good but the outside was just a bit too crunchy. The Chicken Lo Mein was good but it didn't have much flavor. They did get my order of Spicy correct though. The Spicy Garlic Chicken was spicy but I couldn't taste the garlic at all and their were end chunks of it around.
Overall: I would still order from there in hopes I find that one really good dish but I'll still be on the lookout for other places. -
Review from Allison B.
Yuba City, CA
Came here for a late night dinner. The place was pretty empty, and we got our food fairly fast. The meal wasn't by any means bad.. I was just unimpressed? The orange chicken I ordered was tasty, but I have to say that their fried rice wasn't. At all. Also, the egg drop soup was very watery.
If I was craving Chinese late at night and couldn't find anywhere else to eat, I'd go back. Otherwise... probably not. -
Review from Shari B.
Van Nuys, CA
Pro's: SUPER quick delivery, great prices, huge portions, and the food is very nicely presented considering it's delivery - almost too pretty to eat. They don't just throw the food into a "to go" container here, they take some time and make it look very appealing.
Con's: Parking here sucks as they share with Zankou chicken. AND... Ummm...hello? Where's my veggies?!? I ordered the kung-pao chicken and it came with a ton of onions and bell peppers. That's it. No water chestnuts...no cute little baby ears of corn. Also, I'm used to my kung-pao having a bit more of a "kick" to it, and this was pretty tame. Not bad, just a little on the mild side for my taste.
I also ordered the pan fried dumplings (just to meet the delivery minimum of $15). Those were pretty good. Watch out for the yellow sauce that comes with the dumplings -it's HOT and it'll knock you right on your ass. Looks like honey mustard sauce too, those tricky little bastards. -

BEST PLACE TO GET YOUR DOSE OF CHINESE FOOD!
MUST GET:
Seafood with bean curd soup
Fried calamari
Pan-fried noodles (***MUST***)
My family and I have been going to this restaurant for at least once every month since it opened. By far the best Chinese food I have ever had.
I haven't found any other Chinese restaurant that can compete against this one. Parking's kind of a bust though. They've got their own lot but fairly small. Overall, great food though! :) -
Review from Rick R.
I think I've found my new Chinese place for lunch hour! And if I change my mind when I get here, Zankou is a few doors down. A win- win for me.
First time here, so I picked a basic dish and crossed my fingers. Spicy garlic chicken- All breast meat, fresh crisp sauteed veggies, silky sauce with a garlic kick. Hot out of the wok and straight to my heart. Damn it was good. A huge portion that I had to force myself to stop eating so i can reward my stomach again later tonight.
The service is quick. My to go order was ready in five minutes. So for all I know, my food could've been straight from the microwave. If it was, I NEED that cook to teach me how to make my food like this.
They also have a decent sized sushi menu which I will partake of next trip when I have more time.
Also, the counter guy, seeing I didn't have 4 cents to round out my bill, just gave me a dollar bill instead of a handful of change, and said "Don't worry, next time!" Like he knew I was coming back. And he's right. I will be back. It was a small little thing, but to me it reflected his good attitude and customer friendly perspective. Or maybe he's a psychic on his off days. -

Ok, whenever I see a coupon from the company being reviewed...it's bad sign.
Yelp is known to 'hide' bad reviews to those who pay a fee. I think it's $300 a month.
Anyway, ordered take out.
Sushi- spicy tuna- the worst I've ever had. No flavor at all. I ate one and that was it.
Kung pow- very mediocre, the chicken they use doesn't 'seem' like regular chicken. Verrrry weird.
Anyway. Ended up throwing out this food. Ick Ick Ick.
Waste of money.
Only positive I can see is that they are open 'til midnight. -

Sushi is no good but on the other hand the Chinese food we got was good. We had a coupon to go here. I would always pass by this place and go to Zankou down the way from here, but we decided to go because we had a coupon for 1/2 off. So we decided to go all out and order all the Japanese food we could stuff down our throats. The sashimi was cut in these huge thick rectangles. it was terrible, then we had some sushi and that was cut super thick too. Yelpers love this place but they have terrible Japanese food. On the other hand...the waitress was very attentive and on the ball with our ordering. After the Japanese food fiasco we decided to try the Chinese stuff so we got some curried fried noodles and the dim sum appetizer something else. That was all good. I would only go back there for Chinese period.

I'd give this place 5 stars, just for the cream cheese wontons. They are amazing in every way. Some more favorites are the vegetable moo-shu, the mapo tofu, and the avocado rolls.
You kind of have to either know what to order though, or experiment with this place until you know what you like, because I've tried a few other things (like the Pad Thai for instance) and I felt like the quality was not nearly as good as what I usually order. So it can be a little hit-or-miss. But it's worth it. -

I love this place! Its kind of in a sketchy part and its super small that if you've never been there you might miss it! The deco is simple but nice, you don't feel like you're walking in to some tacky restaurant.
Their lunch specials are great! I always get their spicy orange chicken. The portions are big so you need at least two friends to help if you get full easily. They also have beer so its great for dinner! The parking is kind of a pain but otherwise the service there is always awesome.
Overall this place has the feel of authentic Chinese with a chill staff. Check it out if you want a big lunch that taste good but won't cost you a bunch! -

Best Chinese food in the valley.
Skip PF Chang's and go here for great tasting, inexpensive Chinese--with relatively good service.
Parking sucks almost every time I've been, so go early. -

Van Nuys, CA
This place serves authentic westernized Chinese food, sushi and drinks. It's right next door to Zankou with limited parking behind the building.
I think the cook is good because the flavors were there, but it caters to the western palate. It's all a little saltier. -
Review from Megan B.
Best chinese in the area. The food is very good and never too greasy or scary tasting. There's a great selection of lunch and dinner combos which usually come with a salad, soup, rice, and either an egg roll or fried shrimp, all of which are tasty. They also can serve you family style so you can try an array of things if you go with multiple people.
The service is generally good but can get slower the busier it gets since there's usually only one server for the entire place. One perk is that I've been during both lunch and dinner times and never had to wait for a table, even when I came with a group of people. Don't go if you're looking for anything fancy or for exceptional ambience. Here, it's just simple, good chinese food. -
Review from Reese L.
Glendora, CA
I know, I know, I'm the first to give this place less than four stars... maybe my expectations were way too high...
Mostly though, I just don't think the food matched my taste buds. I'm used to very authentic Chinese cuisine and this one didn't quite make it at that level for me.
My boyfriend and I were greeted by a very friendly young waitress. The food arrived quickly, within 6-8 minutes. The California Roll didn't taste that great compared to the ones at real sushi places. The orange chicken tasted really sweet and I expected more of a sweet-tangy combination. The other dish, the spicy garlic chicken, seemed to have more veggies than the chicken itself. I really liked the egg rolls though, pretty yummy.
The great thing about this place is the price. The combination meals are very affordable if you want to order for take-out or a quick lunch. Because of all the good reviews here on Yelp, I am willing to come back to try this place again... maybe I came on a bad day. -
Review from Shirley A.
Sherman Oaks, CA
Let me preface by stating that if I could, I would give the Chinese food side 4-stars, and the sushi 2, which is why I've averaged the rating to 3-stars. I haven't yet tried the Thai items on the menu. Perhaps when I do, I'll update this post.
I've ordered from this place a couple times before, only Chinese food, and have always really liked it. I'm always searching for good Orange chicken and this place makes the best you can get delivered.
This time, I was in the mood for sushi as well, so I thought, "Great... kill two birds with one stone". Here's how it went:
Combo/Special Lo Mein = 3 stars
I've ordered their lo mein in the past and it was always really good, but this last time it was oddly bland and dry. I had to add my own low-sodium soy sauce to punch it up, and mind you, I my palette isn't so "Americanized" where everything needs salt. What this dish was missing was moisture. Also, there were hardly any vegetables in it. I saw traces of bean sprouts and cabbage that were drowning in the noodles. Maybe some prefer this, but I like vegetables and wouldn't mind sacrificing noodles for it. The BBQ pork that it comes in the combo/special was the best part. I'm thinking of ordering just the BBQ pork appetizer next time.
Sashimi/Sushi (chef's choice assorted) = 2 stars
Very mediocre--salmon, tuna, whitefish and yellowtail. Sushi rice was too sweet for my taste. Fish quality was just ok, will stick to Chinese food next time and get sushi elsewhere.
Orange Chicken = 5 stars
Always yummy, all white meat and the sauce is just perfect ratio of sweet, salty and sour, not overloaded with sauce either. My only complaint is that the chicken tends to be thin strips rather than larger chunks, but I'm guessing that's a prep/cook decision to use in a variety of dishes & faster cooking.
Crouching tiger roll = 2
Nothing special about this. It tasted ok, who doesn't like shrimp tempura smothered in crab and salmon? But won't get again.
Beef w/ Broccoli = 4
Beef always really tender and the brown sauce is always yummy. Broccoli also tender
Kung Pao Combo = 4
The other dish I always order at Chinese restaurants and theirs is really tasty too. Chicken slices in it seemed under seasoned, though.
Delivery was fast and quick, took less than 30 mins and the lady who takes the order is always efficient and quick. Never had an issue with her understanding me, which is always a relief when calling for Chinese takeout. -

Maybe i ordered the wrong dish but this place isn't a place that you should go out of your way for. I read the reviews and i'm thinking maybe it is better if you don't go here 30 mins before closing time.
I am gonna give them another shot -
Review from Matt F.
Los Angeles, CA
So I decided to try out this hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong 88 as part of my ongoing quest to find a decent Egg Foo Young in Los Angeles. So far my experience of local egg foo young has been very disappointing. Living in Ohio and Boston over the years, I knew what I expected in a good egg foo: slightly floury omelet with veggies and sometimes meat inside, fried so that it's light and crispy outside, served with a savory brown sauce on the side. What I've found in LA is hunks of slightly egg-ey batter fried up and cut into squares, served with a mix of veggies and meat with "meh" brown sauce on top.
I think I read on Yelp that Hong Kong 88 had a decent "Eastern" (US) style egg foo, so I decided to try it out. Well, they had the pancake shape down right, but instead of several 4-5 inch pancakes, it was one large one - no meat or veggies (like bean sprouts) inside, and the chicken was mixed into the brown sauce which I had to then dollop onto the egg foo. The closest I've yet found to what I'm searching for - but still not that good. *Sigh*
I also ordered the seaweed salad (they serve sushi apparently) and a pad thai, and both were extremely mediocre. In fact, while I usually love seaweed salad, I had to throw this one out because I was slightly nauseated by it. (It wasn't spoiled or anything, just not that good).
For now, the Egg Foo Quest continues! -
Review from Jeremy S.
Sherman Oaks, CA
The food is pretty good, but not great.
I am giving one star for being lied to by the person who took my order. I called in an order for delivery, and made sure it was within the range for free delivery (3.5 miles) after I gave my address. The person on the phone said that my apartment was in the free delivery range. When my food was delivered, there was a $6 delivery charge on the bill. I pulled out my iPhone on the spot and showed that my apartment was 3.1 miles from the restaurant. The delivery employee refused to do anything, and I was forced to pay an extra $6 for my food. I will never order from here or eat here again. -
Review from Kelley A.
Van Nuys, CA
So Surprised that I only found 1 review (only went back about 15 reviews) which was from David M.,that mentions the absolutely horrible customer service when ordering delivery! Huh...go figure. If you call to ask why it's taking an hour to arrive they are the opposite of friendly, when they gave me the wrong order I was told that they would give me a free dish next time...when I phoned another order in and also requested the dish the person refused point blank. After that I waited a very long time to order again which was a week ago and after the polite delivery guy left there was such a tiny amount of wasabi on each of my orders it was not even enough for one rainbow roll so I phoned to ask for more. The lady scolded me for not asking for extra wasabi initially. I repeatedly told her that if she'd look I've ordered from 88 for over 4 yrs & this was an inordinantly microscopic amount on each plate in the 1st place, but she insisted it was my fault. I waited, but no wasabi arrived! I always tip at or over 20% and my orders average over $50+! You'd think you'd get some consideration for that. I was really just sick of them after this time because like many others reviews here have stated the food is hit and miss and can be terribly sub-par at times. I cannot imagine why anyone would be generous enough to give this dive more than 2 stars. One star is generous. Actually I wish Yelp had a minus rating sign for these types of instances! If you wanna gamble then gahead!

I have to rate 88 Sushi with a 3/5 and here is why:
A friend of mine introduced me to this place as it is according to her THE BEST PLACE for Chinese Food. I usually order the Mongolian Beef VERY spicy since to me this is a litmus test dish that is very, very difficult to mess you... well, they sure did. Mongolian Beef is usually skirt steak stir fried with onions, bell peppers and scallions. Mine ONLY had onions and was drenched in oil. Not so appealing IMHO. As for appetizers, most foods are heavily greasy of you order them deep fried.
I also ordered the Peppered Beef from their Menu before and while this turned out to be a better cut of beef, it was still super oily and greasy and was only edible with the meager portion of rice that comes with it.
Would I recommend Hong Kong 88? Yes, if you want fast delivery. That service really rocks when you are about to go into a Hypoglycemic crisis. Their prices are so-so, it depends on what you order, obviously, but also, you get what you pay for. So if you truly want the Filet Mignon Steak dish here, you sure will get it. -

not bad for a late night craving of chinese food. the prices are a little high, but i think that's because their portions are pretty big. my bf and i were starving one night and this place was the only one open. we ordered their special fried rice, mongolian beef, garlic chicken wings, and salmon skin cut roll. everything was pretty good except the salmon skin cut roll and that's cause they put eel sauce on it. i despise eel sauce. yuck.

Their food is always good but sometimes they charge way to much for what u get. Today I purchased special fried rice with chicken and shrimp $8. When I got it, it had 5 shrimp in it. I had to complain and was told they always only put 5 Shrimp. What a rip!

this place delivers and we order fairly regularly, because, well, i don't know any other places that deliver sushi. but the quality is always very hit-or-miss and last time we ordered it was "miss" again, which made me decide that it's really time to find a new sushi delivery place. sometimes, it's great. but other times the fish really isn't fresh.

i've never actually eaten here, we just order their food platters when we have fam bam parties at home.
and yes, we'll come here for one dish: honey walnut shrimp. perfect crisp. i pop a couple of these in my mouth on my way home but it's probably not the best idea b.c unwrapping the foil takes my eyes off the road, oh well.
the reason why they don't get 5 stars is b.c the lady that works there always gives me attitude when i come in to pick up my order.
bitch, i'm paying you for food, that's your job, deal with it.
