This is one of my favorite Chinese food spots in Brooklyn. Never a wait, always quickly seated and friendly fast service. The sesame chicken or beef is a must. If you're not in the mood for that go for the chow fun (thin yummy noodles) which also comes in chicken or beef.

I'd like to consider myself a "regular" for 86 Noodles because when I walk inside, I know exactly what I want to eat without having to take a look at the Menu. Shrimp Sui Mai and Chicken with Baby Shrimp, delicious!
However, when I eat at a restaurant, the experience isn't based solely on good food. Heck, I can go to any other asian cuisine place and order something to go. Simple as that. When I come to a restaurant, I want a pleasant atmosphere and I expect to be respected by the staff as well.
On my last visit to 86 Noodles, it roughly 5:30 PM. I really enjoy their lunch specials which end at 4, but I was still craving my favorite dish from them; so, my friends and I decided to go to the restaurant without hesitation.
We realized the restaurant was a tad busy, but we waited patiently as the owner tried to make arrangements for us to sit.
As we reached our seats, we were placed in the far end where we had a clear view of the inside of the kitchen. Needless to say our meals were accompanied by a show! Chefs, dish washers and bus boys bickering at one another while we attempted to enjoy our meals, how wonderful. As our waiter came by to take our order, he persistently asked if we would like separate checks. With a table filled with hungry people, discussing this prior to ordering took a decent 5 minutes until we reached a consensus. Needless to say, we were all annoyed when the waiter was displeased with how long we were taking to place an order. Maybe if he didn't spontaneously ask us something so arbitrary, our orders would have been placed already.
After we place our order, the waiter procedes to SNATCH our menus out of our hands and walks off into the kitchen. Rude, much?
We patiently wait for our food as we dismiss what may be a waiter having a bad day. As he returns later, he brings us our food. Delicious, per usual. However, I ordered Chicken with Baby Shrimp with No Vegetables, and something wasn't right.
After my first experience of ordering my typical meal WITH vegetables, I realized they scarcely place a few pieces of chicken and shrimp here and there under a MOUNTAIN of vegetables. Displeased, I stopped ordering it with vegetables. I typical get a very good portion of chicken and baby shrimp, which needless to say makes me return for more! This time however, the portion was almost half as much as I usually get. The waiter ended up giving me the runaround with "It looks bigger with the veggies. You ordered no veggies so it's smaller."
Disgusted yet mindful, I accepted his rebuttal and ate my meal.
What 86 Noodles doesn't tell you (or rather, our waiter didn't tell us) is the sudden price changes!
My meal, typically $9.50, somehow went up in price. Now, I'm not really a miserly person but if I'm paying MORE for LESS FOOD, something isn't right. Additionally, my friend's meal (magically) went up $3 in price without notice. After pointing it out to the waiter who was trying to pull a wool over our eyes, he apologized and corrected the "error."
A terrible experience overall. Great food is what keeps it from being a 1 star. New staff is needed or else they'll lose all their loyal customers. -

I used to love eating here when they were on the corner of 4th Ave & 86th St. They moved down 4th Ave a few doors toward 87th. They made it fancier and added a bar. I have to say that its a nice looking place to take a date. A date with no taste, because the food served tonight was the most tasteless that I've had in a long time. The staff now are a bunch of younger hipper kind than what it used to be, basically a hole in the wall. In the old days, you had a more home style Chinese restaurant. The people were not as polite but the food was really good. I don't really come this way much anymore as the parking is a real pain in butt. Tonight I set out to eat at Grand Sichuan House a block over on 5th Ave. They happened to be closed on Tuesday. Not wanting to waste a parking space, I remembered this place. I was impressed at the new look and was looking forward to a great meal. Looked at menu and found a much bigger variety and really low prices.
Ordered a soup, a couple of dumpling dishes and Seafood Noodle dish. Nothing tasted more bland. No taste to anything except the sauces that come out of a jar.
Staff was ok, crowds are all anglos, only Chinese was Myself and company, cashier and one waiter.
DON't waste your time here. -
Review from Althea A.
Pretty standard Chinese place. They've got all the dishes you'd expect, in a fairly pleasant, sit-down restaurant atmosphere. Conveniently located, right next to the subway and bus stops.
We were the last customers of the evening, and the dining room was a little messy when we sat down, but they were nice and didn't try to rush us out the door.
Orange chicken was good, Singapore Mai Fun was tasty, but could have been spicier.
We got to play "Name-that-bad-80's-song" while we dined, and left as a double-shot of Phil Collins afflicted our ears. -

I'm going to keep this review short and sweet:
"They should either fire the chef or go out of business"
The Chow Fun noodles tasted horrendous and I don't know what the hell they put in the Mango chicken, but it made me gag. The spring rolls were like biting into a grease stick and you can definitely tell the shrimp toast was frozen 4 months ago.
The only good thing about this place was the service, but not what they served. -

I've only been to 86 Noodles once, but my memory of it was short. My boyfriend decided to take me here on our 8th Month Anniversary. The weather started getting chilly, so I thought it would be nice to grab a bowl of hot noodles for dinner.
I decided to get the Ramen Noodles with Roast Pork & Dumpling Soup. It was a big bowl of noodles and rich broth! It was absolutely delicious. I haven't had a bowl of noodle soup in so long and it really hit the right spot. I didn't really like the dumplings because it tasted just like the frozen dumplings with grounded pork. The noodles were the best and I enjoyed it very much.
My boyfriend got a Rice Noodle with Roast Duck & Wonton Soup. The wontons were yum! I haven't had them in so so so long. I didn't really try his noodle soup because I don't eat duck a lot and he added red vinegar to it.
Overall, the service wasn't too bad. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. They really have this comfortable ambiance to the restaurant. Good Chinese Food is hard to come by in Brooklyn nowadays, but 86 Noodles is probably one of the best location for Chinese food. Although their menu is limited, the service and food was well! -

We strolled in 30 mins before closing Sunday night and ordered take out in order to not be the people that show up right before closing and ask to to eat in. We ordered the chicken w/ garlic sauce, chicken lo mein, and steamed chicken and chive dumplings. Everything we ordered was great and would absolutely order again. Prices are competitive with similar cuisine in the neighborhood and the to go boxes were packed with food. Though we didn't dine in the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and the dining room was the nicest on the block.

Pros: pretty decors, lightings, convenient location, beef chow fun, quick take out
Cons: greasy, stale roast chicken, mediocre wontons
I will only go back if my choices are limited. -

For some reason good Chinese food is hard to come by and everyone has their personal opinion on what qualifies as good Chinese food. For me, I want fresh ingredients and high quality meat. 86 Noodles is pretty good. I haven't had much on the menu, but I've picked out a few staples.
Sesame Chicken is really good. Crunchy little pieces of heaven! They cut thin strips of white meat chicken, battered them and cook them in a thick, sweet sesame sauce.
Orange Chicken is also great. Crunchy pieces of chicken in a spicy orange sauce.
Beef with mixed vegetables is yummy. Lots of variety of veggies! I could even do without the beef!
Beef with Garlic Sauce is a winner. Very fresh and a little spicy.
Eggrolls, not so good, I've had much better.
If you're looking for good Chinese delivery, then this place will satisfy. -

I was so excited to try the pork buns. Then,I discovered that they had bone and cartilage in them. Twice. I can't fathom any recipe that Calls for bone. A rather disgusting experience.

I used to live a few blocks away and regularly get delivery. Now when when ever we are in Bay Ridge we get an order of Egg Foo Young and Chicken dumplings. The best we have ever had and I miss this place dearly. It's a great place to sit and eat too. Great service.

I've lived in Bay Ridge twice: once from 99-01, and 08-present. I've been going to 86 Noodles since it was on the corner of 86th and 4th.
A couple of things to note. I consider them Americanized Chinese Food. They cater to those who don't use chopsticks to eat. So I'm rating them based on that. I go to Flushing and have friends do the ordering when I want to get serious.
They are my go-to place for dan dan noodles, it's one of those things I came back to Bay Ridge for even when I lived in Manhattan. Picture cold sesame noodles, but warm, more peanutty, sweeter, and more sesame. With chicken on top if you want.
Other things I go there for are roast or steamed pork buns (nobody else in the immediate vicinity makes them) and spare ribs. Their dumplings are a bit too thick skinned for my taste, as are the other nearby Chinese places. I suspect it's a regional style thing. I also will occasionally have chicken with eggplant or roast pork with mixed veggies, both are fine (and better than most take-out places).
I have never had a problem with the service there, always thought the owners were friendly and accommodating. -

We came late, they were closing soon, but they still let us in and didn't rush us. That was pleasant, the place looks nice as well, but the food wasn't so great. Fried shrimp appetizer was amazing, that's about it. The pork dishes tasted funny, the shrimp in the shrimp dumplings were not deveined... and that adds a special taste, not a pleasant one either... I liked the spring rolls though. I rarely do. I'll give it another try, maybe it'll be better. The fried shrimp was so good, don't want to give up on the place entirely just yet.

There sesame chicken gets 5 stars from me, but I have to give an overall rating not just on 1 dish.
The place has a nice decor, much improved from when they were on the corner. Every time I go there I ask for the Sesame Chicken, and the lady always tries to sell me on the Orange Chicken (which is the same sauce but the chicken is done differently). It can become very annoying because she insists and insists and insists. The fried rice is pretty good. The one thing that really annoys the hell out of me is they use the back tables to prepare dumplings and take-away packets. So if you get unlucky and they sit you near the back your basically sitting at a table with their family watching them feed their kids, make dumplings, stare at you, put duck sauce in bags. Why do they have to do this in the front of the house? Also, if you're going to do that don't sit customers right next to the table. I couldn't even have a regular conversation because the family was talking like it was a Chinese New Year celebration. -

Absolutely worst service I have ever experienced in my life.
Didn't even order because of the disgustingly rude waitress haggling me to hurry up and order because they close at 12am. It was 11:30...
I walked out of there with out out ordering anything. Close at 12? You're going to be closed for business with that kind of attitude. -

Great for take out. It always arrives quickly. Its not as greasy as other local Chinese food places. I like their chicken and broccoli and they actually make decent brown rice.
I've never even been inside the restaurant, so I know nothing of the wait-staff or any of that. -

I love you, 86 Noodles. For always being there when I get home tired and I don't feel like cooking. For always smelling tasty when I walk by. For your fun and attentive servers. For your delicious dumplings. For your interesting (chocolate?) fortune cookies that have REAL FORTUNES in them, and not just poorly translated proverbs. For the fact a friend and I can split one meal and both be full (and still have money left in our wallets).
Yes, I definitely recommend this place for quick, inexpensive, delicious Chinese. Mmmm. -

Husband and I got delivery of four orders of vegetable dumplings (don't judge me, I'm pregnant!). They were sooo what I wanted.
If you like the big doughy chinese style dumplings that you find at the Dumpling House or other Chinatown dumpling locales, this is a good find for Brooklynites. Don't bother with the vegetable noodle soup though, the veggies were awesome but the broth had no flavor at all. I actually thought it was straight up water.. -

86 Noodles is considered one of the long time restaurants on 86 street Brooklyn. Originally, there was one place -- a dumpling bar type of place located right on the corner. Then there were two -- they bought the place a few buildings down and made it a restaurant that served anything but dumplings. Now, it's just that little place that serves anything but dumplings.
The place has a nice interior design. It draws customers because of how it looks and the menu is alright. They don't have a lot of variety, just mostly of the same stuff. Their food is like Chinese Fast-Food, but a bit more elegant.
The food is alright, nothing to rave about. Being Asian myself, I understand what real, good-quality Asian cuisine tastes like. Their food seemed plain to me.
86 Noodles is NOTORIOUS for bad service. The waitresses are not unfriendly, they just seem a bit unprofessional and they are not entirely honest. They had a roll on the menu, and when I was about to order, I asked her if it was dried, because usually the roll is not fried, but I was not sure since the menu gave kind of a "Fast Food Vibe" to me. She reassured me it was not. And when I got it, it was shriveled, small, and fried.
Eh, what can I say? It doesn't hurt to try this place out, but after one experience, you can pretty much make up your mind whether you want to come back. -

They have everything and more that regular take out would have but just better. Its not greasy, its fresh, and is really good. One of my favorite places for takeout or quick lunch after a shopping spree at century21.The people who work there are always fast and friendly. Theyre pros at the take out (they are constantly busy)and get everything out really quick. They never disappoint , their food is always spot on.
Love their dry sauteed tangy cripsy beef, really decent dim sum items as well.Their hot & sour soup is my favorite, not just from their menu but in general. -

I can't call it the best in Brooklyn, but considering it's on the corner of 86th and 4th not Chinatown, it's terrific.
The salt-and-pepper calimari and the soups are especially great.
The waiters do a great job delivering even fussy customers' special orders, and I have never seen either of them in any state other than extreme pro cool. -

Nice wine & beer list for a neighborhood Chinese joint. The quality is definitely better than those grease counter take out. Not sure what some of these people expect. Friendly staffs and ask for the Chinatown menu if possible.

I love everything about this place - the service, the decor, and, of course, the food! Not to mention location.
All in all, best hot-and-sour soup I have ever tasted.
Also love their fried wontons and salt-n-pepper spare ribs. Yum.

Absolutely dreadful service. Waitress double ordered one of our plates and very rudely and loudly blamed us for it. Had to insistently reject the excessive order when she tried to make us take the extra food. This kind of bad service used to be commonplace in the Manhattan Chinatown of 20-plus years ago but everyone else has moved on. Why haven't you, 86 Noodles?
Ironically we would have felt worse if the food was good because we knew we would not return. Thank goodness the foods were from average to just acceptable. How difficult is it to understand that customers remember the service much more than the food? -

It's a terrible inconvenience to go here, but I do it anyway because 86 Noodles is one of the best Chinese places in Brooklyn. I know it may spur controversy for me to make such a claim, but once you try the the Roti Canai, you may well die from exhilaration. Seriously, I know Roti Canai involves an Indian pancake, but the these guys make it better than anybody.
Everything I have had here has been excellent. -

Dumplings, buns, fortunes ..ohh my! This place is exactly what i was looking for on an early Saturday eve. It is a guilty habit of mine to order the most amazing things on the menu, so be it if I need two tables. Fortunately the service is great. We were able to finish our:
pork buns then digest; shrimp and pork dumplings then digest; then main course of sauteed shrimp chicken and pork with bok choy and mushrooms! I know, allot for two people, don't judge, guess what ill be eating at 4am when i return home in a drunken stupor! And for that 86 noodle you are A- OK in my book! -

86 Noodles has moved down the block to a newer, cleaner and BIGGER location. That's a huge plus.
I love their scallion pancakes (best I've had yet) and the chicken casserole is great- more than enough for 2 and served with tons and tons of rice- great (and secret!) deal considering the bird portions Chinese restaurants always give you! -

they have MOVED locations. one door down where the Asian/Fusion restaurant "Anise" was... they have joined forces now... so the decor, ambiance has DEFINITELY improved. now it's not all dingy, stuffy and nasty anymore. a whole new look/feel of 86 noodle. i LOVE it. no more stinky/grimey bathroom!
i think the service and friendliness has gone up a HUGE notch. the servers don't groan or make weird faces at you anymore. i guess management told them to pick up the slack. the food is still very consistent and cheap.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This was the worst noodle soup I have ever tasted. It was full of oil. I love noodle soup and I usually order it at noodle restaurant and this had to have been the worst I've ever tasted. Every noodle was drenched in oil. I could not finish it without gaging. If you want good noodle soup go to Ollies. After tasting Ollies food you will see how bad this food is in comparison. Maybe this place is known for their dumplings, because the noodle soup is horrible. I would NEVER go back there.

Their dan dan noodles was just a warm version of cold sesame noodles but with soggy noodles layered on with thick sesame/peanut butter sauce. I didn't expect authentic chinese food ordering take out from here, but at least make it tasty and edible. They even messed up the chicken chow fun. Rather than making a gravy sauce, they piled on the oyster sauce as the "gravy". Not a chance I'm ordering from here again. You want good dan dan noodles? Go to Grand Sichuan House, their noodles are tasty and definitely more authentic.

Don't do it to yourself!!! We went and ordered (party of 4) once we got the check and split the bill we noticed a $5.50 surcharge, when we asked the lady said cause ppl don't tip enough... So then I asked where in your restaurant it's posted that all meals are subject to a surcharge? She said no where... Surcharges are supposed to be added to parties of 6+ These ppl are CROOKS!!! We are supposed to tip according to the level of service we are offered!!! Oh and to top it all off they were letting us double tip... What a disappointment this place has great food but terrible managment :(

American Chinese food with an emphasis on brown sauce. It's kind of insipid, and it usually left me feeling like I needed to do some wind sprints, not return to work. Speaking of work, it was close to my old office, and that's why I went. 86 Noodle Corp is no one's idea of a destination restaurant.

Review from Rich W.
Better than your typical around the corner Chinese take out. The wings are flavored differently for the better, the sesame chicken noodles are the best I've had anywhere takeout wise, but stay away from the fried dumplings, its definitely too doughy for my liking. They also have a good noodle soup selection that hits the spot especially during the cold season, I definitely recommend the watercress dumplings (it's not fried so there is a difference) with noodle soup.
